During the Pre-Proposal phase of the FY 2008-2009 North Carolina Green Business Fund Solicitation, the North Carolina Board of Science and Technology received 298 North Pre-Proposals, for a total estimated request of $25 million dollars.

NC IDEA Announces Spring 2009 Grants

RTP, NC - NC IDEA announces the opening of their seventh grant application cycle. With over $1.2 million awarded to 32 companies in North Carolina since 2006, NC IDEA helps start-up companies by bridging the funding gap between government and private equity support. Firms interested in grants of up to $50,000 are invited to submit an online pre-proposal application by Friday, January 30.

Biotechnology Center Grants To Boost Grant-Writing Skills

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Jan. 8, 2009 � As tough economic times make the grant-seeking process even more competitive, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center is launching a program to help Tar Heel applicants write stronger proposals. The Grantsmanship Training Grant funds training for people involved in the life sciences or related economic development activities. The award to academic institutions and non-profit organizations statewide is designed to increase the successes of faculty and staff as they compete for money to fund their various projects.

Advancing Innovation in North Carolina: An Innovation Framework for Competing and Prospering in the Interconnected Global Economy

The Office of Science and Technology of the NC Department of Commerce, under the direction of the NC Board of Science and Technology, is pleased to announce the release of the following new report: "Advancing Innovation in North Carolina: An Innovation Framework for Competing and Prospering in the Interconnected Global Economy." Faced with a dynamic and uncertain future, the best approach is to shape it rather than be shaped by it. In other words, North Carolina must continue to innovate: to create and adopt new products, services, and business models. The intent of the report is to provide a blueprint for developing such a framework, which will help all regions of North Carolina compete and prosper in the interconnected global economy. The timing of the report offers a roadmap to the state's new administration and legislature that will assume office in January 2009. North Carolina has successfully transformed its institutions and programs several times in response to new technologies and scientific discoveries in past decades. It can, and must, continue to do so.
