Worrying Trend on Debt Enquiries at NEDCAB

The record number of debt enquiries we have had here at NEDCAB to date in 2011 include a worrying percentage of clients that are currently with (or have been to) fee-charging debt management and IVA companies.

There has also been a rise in referrals from numerous other local agencies including those who cover mental health issues.

We have even seen an increasing number of people who previously contacted charity telephone advice helplines including National Debtline.

Nick Clegg today announces

The Government is to pump an extra £400million into mental health care in an attempt to put it on an equal footing with other services.

The need for early intervention in cases involving children is stressed. Launching the strategy, No Health Without Mental Health, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said: "Mental health needs to be addressed with the same urgency as physical health.

"We need to end the stigma attached to mental illness, to set an example by talking about the issue openly and candidly and ensure everyone can access the support and information they need.

Meanwhile

The coalition government are unable to make a decision on what will happen to the 500 money advice caseworkers once the Financial Inclusion Fund ends in March 2011.
A web based self help system and telephone backup will NOT help those suffering with Mental Health problems.
