I've decided to extend the deadline for the contest, since I know that a lot of people are starting school around now and may not have much time on their hands as they did during the Summer. There were a lot of people who expressed interest in entering my contest from whom I haven't received entries from yet, so I thought I'd try to give everyone an extra weekend to get their entries together. The new deadline is September 19, 2010 at 11:59 CDT (UTC -5:00).

I have received 4 entries so far, and I would like be able to get at least 7-8 entries, since I will be awarding a non-trivial amount of money to the winner. By the way, I do try to keep my list of contestants up to date. If you tried to submit an entry but don't see your name on the list, please submit it again or email me the relevant information.

Unfortunately, school has started up again and, as a result, I won't be updating as frequently for a while. I'll try my best to do something at least once a month, but I make no promises. That aside, I do have a new layout for you today, featuring a lovely sunset photograph. I did mean to code it for WordPress, but that will have to wait for now because I have exams coming up.

Neogrotesque is now accepting entries for its first ever layout contest! I've been wanting to host a contest for some time now, but never really came up with a good concept before. There is a $25 prize, so I'm hoping to get lots of entries. The deadline is tentatively set for September 15, 2010 at 11:59 CDT (UTC -5:00), though it may change depending on how many entries I get. For my affiliates and link exchanges, I would also really appreciate it if you helped with promotion!

In other news, I've tweaked a few of my designs-- most notably the WordPress versions of Mechanicus and Flight of a Goldfish. Let me know if you like the changes!

As some of you may have noticed, I've added a links to 5 of my link exchanges in the sidebar. These spots will go to the 5 sites that send me the most referrals (I've hacked together a neat little script to keep track of referral counts). The link exchanges on the Linkage page are now also ordered by referral count, such that the links at the top are the ones that send me the most hits. I figured that this would be a good way to reward the people that have put my link in a more prominent place, etc. Let me know if you like the idea or not.

Edit: I decided to change it so that the last 5 link exchanges that sent me referrals will be listed in the sidebar instead of those with the most referrals. I think it's more fair this way because it gives less popular sites more of a chance to be featured, and the sites that have been link exchanges with me for longer won't have an automatic advantage. On another note, please welcome my new affiliate, April of FlyAngel.org!

New layout & WordPress theme featuring a goldfish

Today, I offer you a premade layout and matching WordPress theme, both featuring a photograph of a goldfish. This layout had a short tenure on Absurdist.Org, though I've tweaked its color scheme a bit before relaunching it as a premade here. You can view a screenshot of the original color scheme if you're interested and let me know whether you think the new one is an improvement over the old.

Rise of WordPress themes, demise of PNGs

As promised in the last update, my newest premade layout Mechanicus has been converted into Neogrotesque's very first WordPress theme! And with it, the WordPress Themes section of the site is now open.

Some of you may have noticed that the Transparent PNGs section is no longer linked in the top navigation. After some heard thought, I realized that I really don't enjoy making transparent PNGs and, as a result, that section has been neglected for quite some time. You can still access it through this link for the time being, but I will be taking it down at the end of month. If you want anything, please be sure to grab it while you have the chance.

New mecha-style premade layout

I've added one new layout today, entitled Mechanicus. It features a photograph that I took of a clump of wires, and I think it has a mecha-type feel to it. It was once my blog layout, but has been modified quite a bit for its "rebirth" as a premade. I'm also intending to make this layout into a WordPress theme soon, so please stay tuned.

New layout & avatars featuring CG artwork

Additions:

I've been into generic (that is to say, non-JRock) graphics lately, so today I bring you a layout and some avatars featuring a piece of abstract CG artwork I did while playing around with filters in Photoshop. The design is a bit unusual for me, but I like it a lot and I hope you do too

Admittedly, I made the layout in order to enter Visualization's science fiction graphic challenge (the banner for which appears below). Wish me luck!

I also did a little pruning for the avatars section. Sorry if I deleted some of the ones you liked, but I just couldn't stand to look at them anymore. I think it was for the greater good.

Lately, I've been toying with the idea of possibly offering either WordPress themes or LiveJournal layouts to Neogrotesque and wanted to gauge whether my visitors would be interested and which would be more popular. I do have several LiveJournal layouts available at Crazed-System, though it hasn't been updated in quite some time. On the other hand, I know that WordPress has become quite popular and I do have some experience working with it on my own blogs in the past. The other thing I wanted to ask you guys about is wallpaper resolutions. What screen resolution(s) do you use? I currently offer 1024x768, 1280x800, and 1280x1024, but I have no idea what resolutions are actually common among my visitors. Please vote!

It's been a long time since I updated, but rest assured that I'm still alive and I haven't forgotten about the site. I've given the site a new look and done a re-haul of the code. The most notable changes are the "Additions" box you see to your left (thanks to Aelyn; I stole the idea from her), and the brand-new RSS feed! I've been trying to update somewhat regularly (though perhaps a bit less frequently than I'd like). I do have a few things in the works, including a planned collaboration with Skye of Paint & Lace, which I'm really excited about.

For today, I've added the previous Neogrotesque layout, Study in Grey, to the layouts section. Additionally, I've created a matching avatar to go with it.

Content-less update today: I just wanted to let you guys know that I have a redesign on the way. It's about 85% done, so look for it in the next week or so.

[Edit] And here it is! A brand-new site layout, featuring Asagi of D. I've overhauled the navigation scheme, as well as a few other things. I've also removed commenting for layouts since, to be honest, no one ever commented on them anyway. I have a few more minor changes in the works, so stay tuned!

A new layout today: it features some beautiful anatomy illustrations from Andreas Vesalius's textbook, De humani corporis fabrica. I've been experimenting with my design style lately. I never used to make many centered layouts, but, more and more, I've finding them to be quite nice. They have certain sense of balance and they tend to look better in large screen resolutions. I think I'll be making more layouts like this in the future.

When I'm in school or doing other important things, I just can't let myself work on my websites, or else I get obsessed and I end up neglecting my work. This is probably going to be one of my last updates before going back to college. I'm going to try my hardest to get another one in beforehand, but I make no promises. I have a tendency to vanish during the school year, so don't be surprised if there's a huge drop in the update rate here .__.;

Layouts: One new CSS layout featuring Kaya of the defunct Schwarz Stein. It's a bit of a departure (and, in my opinion, improvement) from my usual stuff, so I hope you like it.

Avatars: Two new avatars that match the new layout.

By the way, I changed the thumbnails on the layouts slightly. It's mostly because I just got a new computer that runs Windows Vista, and I didn't want my new screenshots not to match my old ones.

[Edit] I changed the layout styles to "Header & Footer," "Header Only," and "Frames." I think these are more descriptive than "CSS," and "Div Layers." Hope you guys agree.

You didn't expect me back so quickly did you? xD I have a nice set of graphics for you, if I do say so myself.

I made a red/orange and a red/blue version of all the graphics in this set, but only posted one version of the layout and one version of the wallpaper here. For those of you that have LiveJournal, both versions of all graphics can be found at Crazed System (layouts there are coded for LJ).

I've been doing a lot of silent updating over the past few days, and I suppose it's finally time to announce it all.

Layouts: One new layout featuring Kousei of GHOST, which used to be the layout for LastSong.net. I've also finished most of my recoding/remaking campaign. The most noticeably changed layout is Sentimental. You may have also noticed that there are no more tables designs. This is because I feel like tables are out of date and have no advantage over CSS or div layers. All the layouts that used to be in this category have been recoded as one or the other.

Avatars: Two new avatars have been added, which match the new Kousei layout.

Wallpapers: One new wallpaper featuring Mao of Sadie has been added.

Tutorials: You may have also noticed the appearance of the tutorials link in the sidebar. These tutorials are being hosted on LastSong.net, which I've recently reopened as a web development/web commentary blog. This is because it's easier for me to write them as blog entries. I will, however, be announcing it here whenever I post a new tutorial.

Affiliates: Please welcome Veve of DigiCreation! She has a great deal of talent and, even though her site is anime/manga-based, I couldn't say no to her.

That's right~ It's another update. I'm about to head off to LA for my internship on Sunday, so this will probably be my last update before then. I'm pretty sure that once there, I'll have internet access and plenty of free time (since I won't know anyone and thus, will lack a social life), so I should be able to update pretty regularly.

No new layouts or avatars today, but it's still a pretty big update.

Layouts: If you haven't noticed, I've added a top navigation bar to all of the layout previews for your convenience~ I've also started on my project of fixing up some of my old layouts, the first of which is GENESIS.

Transparent PNG: I've added one new PNG featuring Asagi of D.

Wallpapers: I've added 1280x800 versions of most of my wallpapers-- I figured it was a good idea, since it's the resolution that I personally use, and that I know a lot of other people use. If you want other resolutions, feel free to request them, and I'll see what I can do. I've also added a matching wallpaper for the Satellite layout.

Affiliates: I have one new affiliate! Please welcome Skye of Skyefairy.net. If you don't know about her site already, it's definately worth a visit.

I've done a lot of behind-the-scenes fixing up... As you may have noticed, I don't have those ugly http://neogrotesque.net/?page=... links anymore xD I've still got a little more tweaking to do, so please pardon any errors ^^;

Layouts: One new layout featuring Urara of POIRTINE. I've also begun the slow process of trying to get all my layouts validated, and I've gotten through 8 of them so far.

Transparent PNG: Two new PNGs: one featuring Saburou of KuRt, and one featuring Ruki of Gazette. These have been done for a while, and I just never posted them. I'll try to do more of these from now on.

Back again! xD I told you I had stuff sitting on my hard drive, just waiting to be coded, didn't I? I'm kind of sad my HIDE-ZOU layout didn't get to be on the front page for very long at all, though ;_; oh well~

Layouts: I've added one new div layers layout featuring the very sexy Urara of POITRINE xD I really love the main image from this layout, so I may make a matching wallpaper at some point-- watch for it~ By the way, I've decided that, to keep myself from like deleting all of my layouts and having none left, that I'll only allow myself to delete one when I add one.

Avatars: I've added two new avatars, also featuring the very sexy Urara of POITRINE.

[Edit] Wallpapers: Just like I promised, I've turned my Urara layout into a matching wallpaper. I also did the same thing to my Shou "Love Letter" layout. Thus, there are two new wallpapers, one featuring Urara of POITRINE and the other featuring Shou of alice nine. If you want a 1280x800 version of the Urara wall, it's available at Crazed System.

Sorry I haven't updated in a while ._. It seems my friends and I got caught up in a bit of...er...drama. Anyway... I added a most popular layouts section (sorted with the most downloaded layouts on top), mostly for my own curiosity.

Layouts: One new div layers layout has been added, featuring Rentrer en Soi. I've also cleaned out 3 of the older layouts because I thought they were ugly. I might do a little more pruning at some point, so don't be surprised.

Avatars: 5 new avatars. These are a matching set and feature the members of Rentrer en Soi.

Link Exchanges: I've added a link exchange with Autistic Fidelity and updated the link for AnimeShare.

Transparent PNG: I've found bigger versions of some of the images I used to make pngs from, so I'm in the process of redoing a few of them.

Avatars: One new avatar featuring Tenten of KuRt xD What can I say? I couldn't help myself.

Wallpapers: One new wallpaper featuring Jui of Vidoll.

Affiliates: I've removed some of my affiliates. Basically, I just got rid of the ones that both haven't really updated in more than a month and whose webmasters don't keep in touch with me. If you've been removed, but you'd still like to be affiliates with me, just let me know and I'll relist you. This leaves me with only 2 affiliates, so I encourage everyone to apply if you're interested in affiliating with me.

I also wanted to plug Visual Fetish. It's a new LiveJournal community dedicated to jrock graphics, and I'm one of the designers there. I'll probably be recoding some of my div layers layouts for LJ and offering them there, and all the other designers are uber-talented, so please visit!

Yet another update! Yay me! If I keep updating at this rate, this site will fill up really quickly @.@; I feel like no one visits, though T.T *pokes* Comments, please? Yui likes comments!

Layouts: One new layout featuring Hakuei of machine-- I called it a tables layout, but it's really a hybrid of tables and div layers ^^; I was too lazy to do straight tables.

Transparent PNG: One new addition, featuring Takehito of Ayabie.

Avatars: I actually made lots of avatars! I've added 8 of them: 1 miyavi, 2 machine, 5 Vidoll. The Vidoll ones all match, so I kinda cheated, but still ^^; That's pretty good for me.

I have a rather large update for you guys today-- a belated "look, I got a new domain" gift to you, if you will xD I actually wanted to update earlier in smaller chunks, but I decided to lump it all together for...er...dramatic effect? ^^;

Layouts: 2 new additions! One is a div layers layout featuring Kousei of GHOST, and the other is a frames layout featuring Tsukasa of bis.

Transparent PNG: 2 new png featuring Ryouhei of Ayabie and Jui of Vidoll.

Avatars: 2 new avatars featuring Kousei of GHOST and Asagi of D.

Wallpapers: 3 new wallpapers featuring Tero of Vidoll, Kousei of GHOST, and Tsukasa of bis.

Also, I realized that my forms haven't been working properly. They should be fixed now, so if you've tried to send me something in the past week or so, please send it again now.

This really isn't much of an update--I just needed an excuse to announce the...uh...existance of my new domain name and the fact that Firefly Studios has now become Neogrotesque! I've had this domain forever and just never found a use for it--I wasn't sure if I really wanted to use it for my graphics site, but Mija convinced me that it was a good name, so you can all thank her for the move xD

Transparent PNG: 2 new pngs have been added featuring the following bands: SADS, Ayabie.

Avatars: One new avatar featuring Iori of Phantasmagoria.

Wallpapers: As sad as it is, several of my wallpapers were branded with "Firefly Studios" and, with the name and url change, I couldn't keep them. Sorry guys, but I only have 3 wallpapers left ^^; I was actually wondering, though, if anyone would be interested in widescreen wallpapers? I have a widescreen laptop myself and have noticed the severe shortage of decent wallpapers. If you're interested, please leave a comment and let me know. I may attempt to create some if there's enough interest.

^^; I must have no life-- I'm updating again and it's only been 5 days since the last time I updated, lol. But you should be grateful =P

Layouts: One new tables layout featuring Nagi of Shulla! Aren't you proud of me? Even though I usually hate making tables layouts, I've been trying to branch out.

Transparent PNG: New section! It occured to me that it's rather hard to find sites that offer jrock transparent png, so...I decided to start my own collection! It's rather empty at the moment, with only 4 images, but it'll hopefully grow...

Avatars: One new avatar featuring Ruki of Gazette, as you can see. I rather like this new format for updates xD It forces me to pay more attention to my avatars sections because I need to make a new avatar for every update, lol ^^;

Link Exchanges: Added a link exchange with Visual Goodies. I also cleaned out some dead links.

I've almost missed updating on 6.6.06, so I better make this quick xD So yeah...updates...

Layouts: One new frames layout featuring Gackt has been added. Also, I've added an avatar extra to the hide layout I made before.

Huge update today! As you've probably already noticed, I've made Firefly Studios a new layout, featuring Yomi of Nightmare. I've named the layout "Resurrection" because I thought it was a particularly fitting title--I've finally gotten off my lazy ass and learned PHP/MySQL. I've recoded the entire site. I'm still working out the kinks, so bear with me. I've also decided that from now on, I will focus primarily on JRock graphics (but you saw that coming, didn't you?). That doesn't mean that I'm going to stop making other graphics, but I just won't be making them as often. Unfortunately, because of the new system, I've lost all my view/download counts. I did, however, manage to transfer the previous comments over.

Layouts: I've added two new layouts, one is a div layers layout featuring Yomi of Nightmare, and the other is a fames layout featuring hide.

Avatars: One new avatar has been added, featuring Kaoru of Dir en grey.

Wallpapers: I've cleaned out my wallpapers section and removed the ones I couldn't stand to look at. I promise I'll make some more soon to make up for it.
