Tunisian Crochet, also known as the afghan stitch, is a cross between crochet and knitting. There is a hook called an afghan hook that is used for this, you can find it online or in some yarn stores.

When starting this stitch, it starts out with a foundation chain, like normal crochet, but after that the similarities end. After you get a desired length of foundation chain (or enough to fit on the hook), you insert the hook like you would normally do but you don’t pull the hook out. You leave the loop on the hook like you do in knitting.

Continue doing this till the end of the foundation chain (this is the forward row). When that is done, you single crochet through the loops back towards the other end (this is called the return row). Continue doing this until you get the size of section you want. It is very easy to do once you get used to it. If you have to do multiple sections, try single crocheting the seams together or doing a pattern in between them.

There are other stitches out there, longer afghan hooks, and different sized hooks. It also curls, so you might want to go a hook size up then what a pattern is calling for or what the yarn says to use.

Try it, you’ll like it.

Online storage sites have become more and more popular as we have more of our important personal, work and financial documents on our personal computers. The invention and popularity of digital cameras has also meant that we often have a large amount of unprinted digital photos on our hard drive that can be devastating to lose. Having such data backed up at an external site that is completely safe in case the worst were to happen and we lost all computer data has become very important. Online storage sites do just that, they provide a totally secure site for all your electronic files, so even if your home is completely destroyed, you will still have access to those precious documents.

Much competition has sprung up in terms of online storage sites, however there are several which have definitely risen to the forefront as being amongst the best. Each offers something different and is worth checking out.

Mozy: This site offers an impressive 2MB of secure encrypted free online storage to home users. Unlimited storage is also available for a small monthly fee. Mozy also offers a Pro version for businesses. Mozy is such a great program because you can preset backup times and dates and all the work will be done for you. It does require downloading the Mozy software onto your computer.

Carbonite: This website is completely free of charge for the first 15 days and offers unlimited free storage. However, there are limitations on the size of files you can store there. It continuously backs up new data on your PC. The data is then encrypted and stored at their remote backup center. Others can also access your files if you give them this option and allow them to share your files. There are more enhanced versions that have fees for use, but the basic Carbonite service is an uncharted diamond in terms of useful websites.

Box: Box.net is an online storage site that specializes in offering freedom of access and easy manipulation of files from anywhere. Only 1 MB of information can be stored free of charge and after that there are multiple levels of pricing. The flexibility in the use and manipulation of your online documents is what makes Box stand out amongst other companies of its type.

Dropbox: This storage site has a unique feature that other similar services do not. You can use your account on multiple computers and they update simultaneously. Whenever you use the downloaded dropbox to update a file all the other dropboxes on your account automatically update because they are in sync. This is one of the easiest online storage services to use

In a world where years of work can be wiped out by a hard drive crashing or a virus infecting your computer, online backup can mean the difference between disaster and slight delay. Take the time to research the options available for online storage and save yourself lots of potential headaches.

Review the top online storage sites.

Used cars are bought significantly more often than new cars. However new car sales in total average more than the amount spent on used cars. This shows how much potential savings can be found by those who choose to invest in a used car rather than a new one. Even though it seems like a relatively easy thing to do, there are some things to keep in mind when you are buying a used car.

1. Have a budget in mind. Either have a loan pre-authorized with a bank or credit union or have the amount of money set aside that you are willing to spend. For car loans, you will often get much better rates through a bank or credit union than you will through dealer financing. Also by having a pre-set amount in mind, you will not be tempted by cars that are too expensive.
2. Look beyond the car lot. While many used car dealers exist, they are not necessarily the best place to find a deal on used cars. New car dealers always have used cars available as many people trade them in on newer models. Certain times of the year they do inventory reduction sales and this is a great time to buy. You may also want to check out rental car companies, who regularly sell cars in their fleet. Many good deals can be had on their late model cars that have been maintained, cleaned and driven relatively little.
3. Check out online listings. Many websites, such as Craiglist.org, have free ad space for those wanting to sell privately. When looking for a car, check such listings regularly as deals don’t last long.
4. Even before you go to test drive a car that interests you, find out its vital information. Ask for information like model, features, odometer reading and if there have been any accidents or major work done on it. Be sure to get the VIN or vehicle identification number, so you can run a Carfax history on the vehicle. The very useful information that a Carfax report gives you includes dates the car was bought and sold; where it was registered; if any recalls were done on it; if it was involved in any car accidents; any major repair work and possibly even regular maintenance. Having such information will help you to know if you’ve found a deal or a lemon.
5. Be prepared. Know what you need to bring to a sale and what you need to get from it in order to properly register the car in your state. In most places you should bring along your driver’s license, insurance information and a license plate if you have one.
6. Used car and new car dealers will typically take care of the paperwork for you, which is one of the perks of doing business with such companies. If it is a private sale, be sure to bring all the necessary paperwork to the DMV immediately following the sale and take care of the details that are required.

Get started now looking for the used car deal you have always dreamt of finding. By putting the above tips to work, you will be best equipped for finding a great used car at a great price.

Learn how to buy stuff and make informed purchasing decisions.

DNA testing is not just for CSI anymore. A person’s DNA is absolutely unique to that individual and can be used for identification with greater certainty than even fingerprints. A person’s DNA also carries the genetic markers of everyone that individual is related to back through millennia which make DNA testing useful for establishing paternity or tracing your ancestry. The DNA located throughout the human body including in the skin, bone, teeth, and blood is identical in form and may collected from any of those sites. As DNA collection technology has simplified, several commercial labs now provide a kit that lets you collect a DNA sample yourself and send it to the laboratory for analysis.

DNA is an acronym that stands for DeoxyriboNucleicAcid. The DNA molecule consists of a long twisted spiral or string of polymers called a double helix. In the body, DNA is organized into structures called chromosomes that are duplicated before cells divide and are then passed on to an embryo. More then 99% of DNA is identical between humans. However, there are unique strings of polymers in DNA in known locations and these 12 to 16 strings are used in DNA testing to establish genetic matches.
One type of DNA testing that you can conduct in the privacy of your home is a paternity test. The DNA testing kit includes DNA collection apparatus usually a buccal or cheek swab, simple instructions and a pre-paid return envelope to return the samples to the laboratory for analysis. Collecting the sample is easy and painless. The pricing of paternity DNA test kits range from $99 to $190 and results can be known in as little as three days.

The other type of kit is for Genealogy DNA testing at home and is available from several companies, including the National Geographic Genomic project. The costs of Genealogy analysis are around $100 to $125 dollars and they measure either regular DNA, for males or mitochondrial DNA for females as a way of showing you where your ancestors came from. When the analysis is complete, you may receive both a written report and a map that tells you where your ancestors traveled from your origins in Africa tens of thousands of years ago.

Doing the DNA Testing at Home

Doing the DNA buccal testing at home is simple. It is often done in two parts. The steps to doing DNA tests at home are as follows:
1. Rinse your mouth with water to clean out food particles.
2. Take the swab, which is actually a brush and brush the inside of the cheeks for at least one minute.
3. Place the swab in the provided test tube and then into the envelope.
4. On a different day, repeat the same steps one through three and seal the envelope.
5. Mail the envelope to the company.
6. The results can take as little as three days or as long as 6 weeks.

If secrecy is essential, some companies such as DNA Solutions, will accept used toothbrushes and Q tips with earwax on them for paternity or other tests that are done in secret without the individual knowing he or she is being tested.

There are many reasons that you may want to perform home DNA testing including: family relationship testing to determine grand parentage and siblingship, especially when one or more parents are unavailable; determining full or half siblings; reconstructive testing to determine the father of a child by examining the other close family members. In cases of adoption or separation, maternity testing may be warranted. Twin zygosity is done whenever it is unclear whether twins are identical or fraternal. Or, you may want to bank or store your DNA for comparison in case of unexpected future events, such as if you become a missing person or are killed under questionable circumstances.
DNA testing at home is a valuable resource that offers anyone wanting to know DNA relationships within their family a simple and inexpensive method to do so.

Liars, we all know someone who finds it necessary to lie. Whether it be about the most mundane issue or when it’s something as important as testifying for the grand jury, some people feel the need to lie. The question I would like to raise is why. Lying is, more often than not, pointless, or so many whom are lied to would like to believe. Some doctors believe people lie because of various forms of chemical imbalances. I believe lying serves one overall purpose and it is to protect.

Natural human instinct tells us to survive, to protect ourselves at nearly all costs. Ultimately a person who lies feels in some way threatened. The subject being discussed can be of the most mundane in nature, but if someone feels threatened in any way, shape, or form, they are going to lie in response so that they feel as if they are maintaining a certain amount of control. Think about it. Your boss asks you what your plans are for the weekend and you know he’s only asking because he wants someone to run errands for him. Suddenly your weekend flashes before your eyes and you feel it slipping away and you realize that your two days of relaxation are at risk, what do you do? You paint the most pitiful expression on your face and say you’re visiting your sick grandmother. You felt that the weekend you waited so long for was at risk, so you lied to save it.

Some people tell small lies to protect what helps them survive in our competitive world, such as their long awaited weekend of relaxation, while others lie to protect a piece of themselves. A persons past can impact them in tremendous life-altering ways. It can leave a person bitter and insecure thus giving them all the more reason to lie when confronted by an issue they feel threatened by. If asked how one feels on a particular day, they may be feeling angry, frustrated, or depressed, yet they’ll say “fine” and be on their merry way. It’s so that they don’t have to face the parts of their past that made them feel that way, If faced, the past may tear them apart and take whatever composure they feel they are maintaining, and that’s what scares them the most.

Survival, it’s what lying is all about. It can be a child lying about putting those crayon marks on the wall because the know that if the truth is discovered, there will be consequences. The same goes for adults. We try to protect what we have at all costs and if lying serves our purpose then we are merely doing what we were designed to do…protect ourselves.

First of all, always be sure of the entrance requirements of the country you are traveling to for instance, some countries require travel visas like Brazil and Australia.

Make sure you read about the laws in those countries because you want to find yourself getting in trouble for something in a foreign country.

It’s also a good idea to know about their currency rates and language as well. I’ve heard that in some places they might give you a discount if you speak their language. Also, it might be a good idea to travel in a group incase you don’t that the country too well.

It’s always a good idea to know the customs and culture of the country you’re visiting so you don’t unintentionally insult someone; for example it’s rude to cross your legs so that bottom of your shoes are showing in Spain because are bottom of shows are really nasty.

Another thing to consider is that in some country the beds are smaller than they are here for some reason so you might want to get a room with a larger bed also the electrical outlets may be different. Plus, don’t forgot that in some countries the steering wheel might be located on the right and they might drive on the left like in Australia and England.

It’s a god idea to buy a tourism book about that particular country because they tend to tell you important information plus, you might want to contact a tourism industry with in that country as well because they can give you good ideas about what to visit while in that country.

Some more obvious but important things to remember are that other countries have their own laws and government and that some countries are about the size of a state.
Well, I hope this article helps you with your travels.

Instead of buying skin products in the store, sometimes it is better to simply make your own. By making your own face masks, you know what you are putting on your skin, and you area aware that you are not damaging your skin with any kind of chemicals. So here are some useful recipes which will make your skin clean, fresh, and glowing.

1. Peeling mask #1:

2 tbs corn flower

1 egg white

Mix those two really well and apply it to your face. Leave it on for about 15 minutes. When it’s ready to be washed, use warm water and lightly scrub your face in circular motion. Finish it off with couple of splashes of cold water. (tip: if you want your face to feel even better to the touch, before you start making the paste, boil the water from the faucet for about 5 minutes and let it cool off. Separate the water in two cups, keep one in the fridge for the last step. The reason for boiling the water is when the water reaches a high temperature, it kills all the bacteria and chlorine so your skin won’t feel too dry.)

2. Peeling #2

1 tbs honey

2 tbs ground almonds

1/2 tbs lemon juice

Mix all the ingredients together, scrub it lightly into your skin (face) and wash it off with warm water.

3. Fine lines and wrinkles

2 tbs honey

With the economy crashing down around us, so many people are actually trying to *gasp!* save money- but its not as easy as it looks. Countless Americans are failing miserably at trying to be thrifty, so I’m writing this article to tell all of you out there that no, you don’t have to sell your Grandmother’s antique silver just to keep a little cash in your pocket.

1) Pocket Change! It collects in your cup holders, in the washing mashing, in your shoe. The one place it never seems to collect? THE BANK! This little tip is one most would scoff at: but after a while, the dimes, nickels, quarters and pennies really start to add up. But how to keep it out of those pesky places I’ve already mentioned? Well, here’s what you’re going to do. Go out to the store and get two large containers in which to hold any coins you may collect throughout the day. Place one in your cubicle at work, and one by the front door of your house. When the two are filled up, DO NOT take them to a Coin-Star machine, or something similar. Know why? For every dollar you put in that machine, it receives nine cents of it!

I suggest rolling your own coins- it’s not that difficult and, if you want it to be, it can be a fun way to bond with your kids. Make it into a contest. Award prizes. Whatever. Or give the neighborhood kid five bucks and have them do it. Then when you have your many rolls of coins, mosey on down to your bank and trade those suckers in for a wad of cash. (Be warned: you will be treated like a neanderthal of sorts at the bank; some people are too snooty to roll there own coins nowadays. But hey, you’ll be a rich neanderthal, so don’t let it bother you.)

Now, this money will not be used to pay your bills. This money is what I like to call “Holy Crap! money”, because life, with its sick humor, likes to send us curve balls and speed bumps, such as, “Holy Crap! My car just broke down”, or “Holy Crap! I just broke my arm”, or the ever popular, “Holy Crap! It’s Christmas and I haven’t bought anything!”.

2) This next tip may make you feel slightly like a senior citizen- unless you are one, in which case, kudos to you for trying to save some cash. The tip is a good one, one many people already use: the circulars. Now, the dictionary.com definition of a circular is: A printed advertisement, directive, or notice intended for mass distribution. The ones I’m referring to are the ones in the front of your supermarket, that tell you the sales on all sorts of food. Here is how to use these handy little things:

a) Make two shopping lists: one with all the essentials your family needs such as bread, milk, eggs, as well as large categories like fruits, and cereal. On the second list, write out frivolous things your family might want such as cookie dough and frozen waffles, as well as things that fit into the large categories on the first list, like apples and Cap’n Crunch.

b) Take these two lists to the store and pick up the circular for that week. Go through and circle all the re-occurring things on your lists and the circulars. If something on the first list is not in the circular, buy it regardless. If this is the case for the second list, you should not buy it for that week.

3) This last tip contains many separate tips: They are grouped together because they most come with a sacrifice: Time or Money? What i mean by this is that if you want to spend the time to make your lunch instead of buying it, you could save an unbelievable amount per year. But doing so will eat up your time in the morning. I believe the choice is easy, but then, I am the one writing the article. So think about this trade-off before you make a decision. (Note: I believe that even though they take up time, they can be fun and well-worth it if you involve your family and friends.)

a) Wash your car at home instead of getting it done professionally.

b) Buy one durable, fill-up plastic water bottle and a purifier: this will soon pay for itself and is better for the environment.

c) Be sure to use ALL of a cosmetic before switching to a new one. To create a new lip gloss, scoop out the lasts of your lip-stick and mix in some Vaseline.

d) Of course, shop thrift-stores and Good Will, but also learn to barter and hit some yard sales!

HAPPY BARGAIN HUNTING!

I find the dating scene to be so complicated and scary. Most people in our society today are involved with online dating. But there are so many possibilities of becoming targets. And what I mean by targets is, victims of rapists, abusers, or thiefs! What should a person do if they find themselves in a position where they like someone, but they’ve met online, and are unsure of what percautions to take? Here are some safety tips for you to fall back on.

     1. Always meet your interest in a public place. If they tell you they don’t like public places for
some reason or another. Leave them alone! They are probably up to no good.

     2. Get as much information as you can about your interest before you meet. Address, Place
of employment, Bank, etc., and check up on this information before meeting them. You need to
know that they are being honest and up front with you from the start.

     3. Bring a friend to watch over you. This friend should not be joining you, but be off to the side
close by, taking pictures. This friend should get a picture of their car, license plate number,
the interest themselves, etc. They won’t know who you know (unless you have their
face plastered on the website you met them on).

     4. Don’t forget to bring your cell phone, which hopefully has voice activation. If at any point you
start feeling uncomfortable with his advances, you can just reach inside your purse and push
the side of your phone and start recording. I give this advice, because if you decide you want
to file charges against him for harassment, the police will need some kind of proof.

     5. Never give them too much information. Don’t get into bank accounts, where your kids go to
school (it’s none of their business unless they want to start paying their child support), how
much income you make, where you keep your valuables in the home (they could follow you
home and break in while your gone, or worse, sleeping!)

It’s a very unsafe world these days, and people are becoming harder and harder to trust. I know…I’ve made this mistake. And it almost cost me my life! Worse yet, I didn’t have the smarts at the time to take these precautions, and the police had very little to go on. I never did catch my attacker.

     Be safe…not sorry!
