Diablo III Open Beta This Weekend

It's (almost) the moment we've all been waiting for. As you know, the release for Diablo 3 is just around the corner. With this in mind, Blizzard announced today that they will be opening up their Diablo 3 servers this weekend to anyone with a valid (and free) Battle.net account, so that they might experience the game and run the servers through their paces. The servers will become available at 3:00pm EDT on Friday April 20th, which is today.

When you spend half a year screaming to the masses ‘THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST THING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN,’ it is very difficult to actually make it the best thing people have ever seen, or even one of the better things people have seen this month. Against these odds, and my ever-existent desire to tell people that they were wrong, Lions Gate The Hunger Games really was excellent.

Fanboys and fangirls everywhere have been waiting for this moment for more than decade: the moment when we would finally get a release date for Diablo III. That moment is now, and the release date is May 15, exactly two months from today. If you are anything like us, this means you have exactly two months to get your affairs in order, say goodbye to your loved ones, and finish up any other games you may be in the middle of, because once that date hits, we won't be doing anything but playing this game non-stop.

There's no other way to put this - we found an electro-house remix of "Binary Suns" by John Williams from the Star Wars: A New Hope soundtrack. This will greatly please some, enrage others, but it will intrigue nearly everyone.

Official Hobbit Trailer Released

Yesterday, the first official trailer for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit Part 1 was released. We here at NNAR, to put it modestly, are really frickin' excited for Tolkien's prequel to LOTR to hit the big screen. New cast members to Middle Earth include Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Evangeline Lilly. Many actors are returning to work with Jackson on this project, namely Ian Mckellan and Andy Serkis (who is also co-directing). Over the next year, re-reading of The Hobbit is a must. But for now, wet your whistle with this short video.

What We Thought: Six Minutes of Bane

Last night, three members of the NNAR team went to see Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Why, you ask? Because it was preceded by the first six minutes of The Dark Knight Rises! The third (and final) Batman installment will be released in the summer of 2012, a full four years after The Dark Knight, but we just couldn't wait. The first six minutes introduces Bane, a powerful masked villain who clearly has few qualms about crushing his enemies into oblivion, and hints at the epic scale of this film. This news is huge. Ever since I first got my iPhone and discovered I could purchase and play the original Final Fantasy (and then over time, FF2, FF3, and Secret of Mana), I have been clamoring for Square Enix to release one Chrono Trigger, of the best role playing games of all time. That day has finally come.

Aaron Sorkin’s New HBO Series Gets a Name

The newest series from Aaron Sorkin about the behind-the-scenes action at a fictional television program has just gotten a title, MediaBistro reports. Sorkin's newest is said to be titled "Newsroom" and will star Jeff Daniels as the lead anchor of a popular cable news show called "News Night." We first reported on Sorkin's latest back in June when Tom's hero Sam Waterston signed on to the show (at the time known as More As This Story Develops). Since then, we've learned that HBO has ordered a full series. I haven't been able to find any info about when we can expect to actually see this show hit the air, but I do know that I feel much more confident that it is on HBO and not a major network. We will of course follow additional news about Newsroom as it develops.
