As we all know iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak is almost for public release but most of the users have questions that they should update their devices A4/5 to the firmware 5.1.1 or not. Here let’s see what you should do to prepare yourself for untethered jailbreak.

As far the news from developer team the new jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 will support all A5 devices like iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3 too, but we didn’t hear any news for A4 devices from them yet but let’s hope that it will work for A4 devices too, so what you should do now is that update to the version 5.1.1 by saving your SHSH blobs in advance. It’s strongly recommended to save your SHSH blobs before you update to the firmware 5.1.1 because if something goes wrong after you update your mobile phone you can easily downgrade using SHSH blobs. Even i suffered once from 5.0.1 without saving SHSH blobs i updated to 5.1 and since that time i was using iPhone without JB. So please users save your SHSH blobs using Tinyumbrella before you proceed to upgrade .

What is SHSH blobs:

SHSH blobs allows you to restore your apple devices to the lower firmware from the firmware which your running currently (for ex. if you are in 5.0 and unfortunately you updated to 5.1 and now you need to come back to the lower version. So if you have saved your SHSH blobs its easier way to come back 5.0 but if you didn’t save that blobs, sorry you can’t downgrade your firmware. I am going to explain you clearly how to save your SHSH blobs.

How to use Tinyumbrella to save SHSH blobs:

Step 1: Download TinyUmbrella by clicking here. After opening tinyumbrella, you should see the windows as displayed below.

Step 2: Connect your iDevice to the computer, once TinyUmbrella find your device, click on connected devices in the left pane.

Step 3: Now click on Save SHSH button located on the right top of Tinyumbrella window. Once the process completed you will see the list of SHSH blobs saved for your current version.

How to downgrade using TinyUmbrella:

Saving your SHSH blobs is to downgrade firmware isn’t it. Let’s see how to downgrade with tinyumbrella

Step 1: Open TinyUmbrella once again and connect your device to the computer and click on Start TSS server.

Step 2: Once the TSS server started, open iTunes and restore your firmware version by clicking shift+restore button from that you need to select the .ipsw file and follow the process to restore.

Step 3: Once the restore process gets completed you will end up with an error 1015, don’t worry about this. This is normal, at this stage you need to launch TinyUmbrella again and click on Exit Recovery Mode.

So far you came to know about how to save SHSH blobs and downgrading it via Tinyumbrella , now you can go for upgrading your iOS to 5.1.1 and wait for Jailbreak .

There are two ways to take a backup of your data

1. via iTunes

2. iCloud

Back up via iTunes:

Normally when you plug in your iPhone to your Mac or Windows it will automatically make a backup of your iPhone so no need to worry about that but when your download some apps when your iPhone is connected to computer , You need to sync again to get the app into your mobile , so let’s see how can we Back up your iPhone manually

Connect your iPhone to your Computer

Open iTunes

Right click on the Device name from the “Device list”

Select Backup

Wait until the iPhone backup gets completed.

Sync Contacts, Calendar and Mail accounts:

To sync your contacts click on Device > Info > Select the option ‘Sync Contacts’ and click on dropdown arrow to select the format you want to back up your contacts (Outlook, Google Contacts, Windows Contacts, and Yahoo! address book ) and click on Apply. Once you click Apply iTunes will automatically Sync your iPhone. The same option is for Calendars and Mail accounts. You can Select Outlook format for all the three as it is recommended.

Sync Apps:

To select the Apps which you want to Sync, go to Devices > select your Device > Apps > click on sync apps and select the apps you need in your iDevice then click on Apply. Sync Process will be continued automatically.

Sync Music:

To Sync music go to Devices > select your Device >Music > Sync Music , here you will find two options such as Entire Library or Selected Playlist, Album etc. select the option which you need then click on Apply . Sync Process will be continued automatically.

Sync Photos:

Many people get confused in synchronizing photos, So let’s see clearly

Go to Devices > select your Device >Photos > sync Photos from ____. Now you need to select the path of the folder where your favourite pictures are located. Then click on All Folders or Select Folders. If you Select All Folders you won’t see how many folders are inside the Folder which you selected so that all the Photos from that Folder will be synchronized to your phone and it will also kill your Phone Storage by keeping unwanted photos . So it’s better You can click Select Folders and select the folder which you want to sync.

Backup via iCloud:

This method is one of the easiest way to take backup of your contacts and data to your iCloud.

What is iCloud ?

First of all you need to enter your Apple ID and Password to activate your iCloud account, iCloud automatically takes backup of important data on your iOS 5 device. Whenever your mobile

is connected to Internet over Wi-Fi

is connected to a power source

has the locked screen.

If you take backup via iTunes, it will automatically take backup of Contacts, Photos, Music , Videos and Ringtones, but if you do that with iCloud you can manage your Settings what all the data’s you want to have in a backup so that it’s an easier way.

When you create your iCloud Account you will be getting 5GB Free space. If you wish to buy more space it is available (10GB for 20$/year, 20GB for 40$/year and 50GB for 100$/year)

Is this Process applies for iPod and iPad?

Yes! Of course taking a backup of your iPod and iPad is same as iPhone. But iCloud Requires iOS version 5.x.
