at the Stone, in the East Village- all of Brent’s films with improvised soundtracks and live narrations! The first show is at 8PM- it’ll be Brent, Brendan Canty (Fugazi) and Rodney McLaughlin- the second show is at 10PM- Brent, Brendan, Rodney and Drew and the Medicinal Pen. Come on by!

That second show will have some Drew & the Medicinal Pen songs, too. Should be a rad one.

In Ithaca, NY, Sat. Sept. 27th! Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Jim Becker (Califone), Alan Scalpone (the Bitter Tears), Rodney McLaughlin and Brent Green will be screening all of Brent’s films with live narrations and improvised soundtracks. This is the same band that just played the Hammer Museum in LA with Brent- that was a rad show- this one should be, too. We hope to see you there!

Show starts at 7:15 PM, tickets are $10/$8 for students.

Brent’s doing a live show at the Hammer in LA- screening all of his films with live narrations and improvised soundtracks by Brent Green, Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Jim Becker (Califone), Rodney McLaughlin and Alan Scalpone (the Bitter Tears). Tickets are free! The show’s at 8PM on Tuesday, July 22nd.

Walt Whitman’s Brain/Robes of Bible Black

Brent Green, Howe Gelb (Giant Sand), Jeremy Gara (the Arcade Fire) and Thøger Lund perform Brent’s film “Walt Whitman’s Brain” and Howe’s song “Robes of Bible Black” at the Orange Show in Houston, TX. The show was part of Aurora Picture Show’s “Media Archaeology” festival. Rodney McLaughlin filmed and put this whole thing together.

Brent’s doing two live film/music shows in April:

April 11th- Indie Grits Film Festival in Columbia, SC- It’ll be Jerry Busher (Fugazi, French Toast), Alan Scalpone and Mike McGinley (both of the Bitter Tears- and Califone’s normal horn section) playing with Brent. It’s going to be a fucking party- outdoor show closing Friday night of a pretty amazing festival focused on low budget films from southern artists. And the Bitter Tears are amazing- they’ll be hauling trumpet, trombone, violin, cello and accordian to beat on alongside drums, guitar, musical saw and some lovely cartoons.

April 18th- Media Archaeology- at Orange Show for Visionary Art (rain location is Aurora Picture Show). The band here is Howe Gelb!!!!! Howe Gelb (Giant Sand, Howe Gelb), Thøger Lund, Brent and Jeremy Gara (the Arcade Fire). The last show with Howe was unreal- he’s a real-live silent film theatre pianist shimmying ragtime mess with extra ecstatic noise and wonder- and Jeremy Gara! Damn! This one’s going to be great. Somebody likes you.

Limited Edition Sin Ropas vinyl with all kinds of art by Brent!!!

Sin Ropas new record, “Fire Prizes,” was just released on vinyl by Shrug Records! It looks amazing- there’s a picture disc, with a different painting on each side, and some creepy bears on the cover. Only 500 were pressed- and the record is unreal- strange and murky music- Tim Hurley’s (formerly of Red Red Meat and Califone) creaky vocals running under the whole thing- Danni Iosello’s (also fomerly of Califone) beautiful harmonium and drums- this is a wonderful record. We all hope you get one while they’re available.

Brent’s doing some more live shows in January and February- here they are:

Jan. 11th- DiverseWorks in Houston, TX. All of Brent’s films and music from Brent, Jim Becker (Califone) and Andy Coppinger.

Jan. 18th, 20th and 21st- “God Builds Like Frank Lloyd Wright”- Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT. All of Brent’s films with music by Brent, Aram Shumavon and Califone.

Feb. 8th- Montalvo Art Center in Saratoga, CA. Music by Brent and Tim Rutili (Califone) with all of Brent’s films and couple films by Tim.

Feb. 13th- The Kitchen, NYC- All of Brent’s films with music by Brent, Jim Becker(Califone), Fred Lonberg-Holm (Lightbox Orchestra, Valentine Trio, also the cellist for Wilco, Freakwater, Ken Vandermark) and Brendan Canty (Fugazi). Two shows- one at 8PM (that one’s sold out), and one at 10PM.

Sundance news!!!:
“Carlin” is screening as part of the Documentary Shorts program! Isabella Rossellini has a film in there, too, about the sex life of bugs.
“God Builds Like Frank Lloyd Wright: Brent Green and Califone” is a series of 3 live shows where all of Brent’s films will screen with live narrations and improvised soundtracks by Califone and Brent. Those are on Jan. 18th, 20th and 21st- they’re part of the Sundance New Frontiers program.
