We ended up staying 4 hours in that small space.

It was nice to see Gravity again. And the new work was really inspiring :). It’s nice to see animation being used differently and straying away from the formula that has saturated the medium.

Oh!  And they gave a second one to Robin Frohardt, who has made a couple of my favorite short films ever: Fitzcardboardaldo  and The Corrugation of Dreams.

The Great Aaron Landsman (legal name) and I are collaborating on a theater project, Empathy School, premiering at EMPAC in the fall.  We just received a MAP fund grant to build the project!  Amazing.

A couple other things- to celebrate the release, we’re doing a very small live show at the Andrew Edlin Gallery (in Manhattan) on Friday, March 7th.  It’ll be Todd Chandler, Mike McGinley, Kate Ryan and I performing some short films.  Not too many people can fit in there- if you want to go, please write me or the gallery and we’ll put you on an RSVP list.

To Many Men Strange Fates Are Given is up in a little gallery at Mansfield University, in Mansfield, PA.  It’s a nice, small show- and Strange Fates is kind of tough to see.  Being in rural PA may not be making it any easier to see, though.  But it’s there through March 21st.

And we will be there, too!  Doing Gravity Was Everywhere live on March 13th- at Mansfield University.  The band is Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Todd Chandler (Flood TIde, Dark Dark Dark), Mike McGinley (The Bitter Tears, Califone), Walt McClements (Lonesome Leash, Why Are We Building Such A Big Ship), Kate Ryan (Flown), Arabella Kauffmann and I.

On Ocrober 19th, we’re performing To Many Men Strange Fates Are Given at the Empire Drive-In in Queens, NY. Todd Chandler and Jeff Stark built an enormous drive-in theater at the World’s Fair Grounds site in Queens.

It’s filled with wrecked cars wired up to homemade FM transmitters, so you can sit in those wrecked cars and hear the sounds accompanying 35 foot projections on your car stereo. All throughout the month they’re putting on shows- opening with a symphony Greg Saunier wrote for 30 old Casio keyboards- there was a Bollywood night- Braden King and Boxhead Ensemble (featuring Jim White, Tim Rutili, Paul de Jong and other cool folks)- the night we’re playing, Jem Cohen is showing some films with Jim White and Guy Picciotto.  There’ll be a brass band and Fitzcardboardaldo and Corrugation of Dreams.

That one should be great.  We’ve never done Strange Fates live before.

Working on a new film and exhibit thing.   It’ll be good.   Next year.

This thing’s all done! The packaging’s beautiful. Mick Bello made a trailer (thank you, Mick). We documented the hell out of a performance at EMPAC in Troy, NY. It’ll be released in a couple months. In Spring.

All of the shows will be performances of Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then.

Then I head south of Los Angeles for a few months. I’ll be doing things down there, too. Grand Central Arts Center, Cal State San Marcos, Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum- all kinds of things. Way the hell out of the barn.

2) For a couple weeks- August 17-September 3- EMPAC is showing To Many Men Strange Fates Are Given- the project we developed, designed and built up here.

3) High Tide Picture Show! Todd Chandler and Jeff Stark are hosting a screening/performance night at the Boatel in Far Rockaway. It’s going to be amazing. Films by Jem Cohen, Martha Colburn, Lee Kern and other cool folks. I’m not showing a film- will just be in Martha’s band- but the evening will be unreal.
Saturday, August 11th- 8PM.

4) I’m also doing a short exhibit at Penn State University. It’s a film show. It’ll be good, I believe. August 27-September 14th.

5) More Todd Chandler/Jeff Stark projects: Those two built a drive-in theater with junk-cars and a giant screen for Manchester, UK’s Abandon Normal Devices Festival. We’ll be there doing Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then. It’ll be a weird and great band- Todd Chandler, Jamie Reeder, myself, Micheal McGinley, Lee Kern, Molly Carroll (did you see Lee Kern slyly slipped in there? He’s brilliant. I’m thrilled he’s joining us for this one.)
