The show at the Hammer was great! My first real exposure to Brent’s work and I really enjoyed it a lot. I teach animation at the Savannah College of Art and Design and I wonder if Brent would be able to make a visit down here some time. A lot of students would love it!

I sat in the front row for 2 of his shows at Sundance. I stumbled upon him by accident while wandering around in the New Frontiers basement area, and I was blown away. It was so emotional that it was almost too intense.

I love the live performance MUCH more than any fully composed presentation.

Scary thing happened: When he said the line, “The Gates of Hell opened”, the soundman’s cabinet doors opened as if on their own. The sound guy and my friend and I all freaked a bit and collectively laughed it off, but it was really freaky.

Rooftop Films Fundraiser show- NYC- Nov. 21st

There are a million things I love about Rooftop Films- aside from being some of the first folks to let my friends and I drag our instruments on stage (a stage on the rooftop of a great big New York City building) and yell and create a ruckus in front of my movies. There are a million things. My favorite few are:
Rooftop doesn’t seem to care at all if your film is popular. If they love it, they’ll show it. If everyone else loves it and they don’t, everyone else will show it, and they won’t.
It’s the most wonderfully DIY festival in the whole world. I’ve been involved in all kinds of festivals all over the place- Rooftop always feels like a gigantic celebration- every time I’m at one of their screenings, whether it’s as a filmmaker or an audience member, I feel like I’m winning something. I feel like we’re winning.
The world needs more beautiful things. Rooftop is one of them.

But the economy is rough these days, and Rooftop needs some help. I’m going to perform live, by myself, to some of my films at a little dinner in NYC on Nov. 21st. Tickets are $40, but it’s going to be FUN! There’ll be drinks and jokes, food and films- everyone there is bound to be cool- it’s for Rooftop- I’ve not met too many doofuses at Rooftop. Hey y’all,

Brent did a little interview for the central PA PBS station with Mark Wallace about different sorts of arts budget cuts- it’s a short thing, but has some clips from “Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then” laced into it.

The Andrew Edlin Gallery moved to a ground floor space in Chelsea! 134 Tenth Ave.- between 18th and 19th streets. The space is newly renovated and beautiful- the first show- up now- is a group show, “In Through the Out Door”. Brent has a sculpture, a print and a film included. It’s a rad show- a couple Henry Dargers and a couple new Tom Duncan works. We’re excited.

Also, there are some new “Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then” pictures in the Nervous Films gallery and on flickr.

Live Show in Las Vegas, NV!

Brent and Alan Scalpone, of The Bitter Tears, will be bringing you Watts and Volts From Across A Field, a live narration/improvised soundtrack and film screening (including some new stuff!) as part of the 2009 CineVegas film festival! Museum Show at SITE Santa Fe

So Brent decided to make three huge sculptures that don’t really look like anything he’s ever made before for his solo show at SITE Santa Fe museum in New Mexico. The pieces are huge and looming and one of them moves! He’ll also be screening three of his films including his newest one Tinkerer Used to Be a Trade along with Beethoven and Carlin.

The other artists in the museum, Ruben Ochoa and Klara Kristolova, at the same time are pretty rad too- check out all the shows if you find yourself in the desert. If you find yourself in the desert the show is probably the least of your worries though…

The press & private opening is on June 12th and the public opening in on the 26th.

At EMPAC in Troy, NY!
EMPAC is a beautiful new performing arts space outside of Albany- and really close to MassMOCA. The band is Brent Green, Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Howe Gelb (Giant Sand), Jim Becker (Califone), Rodney McLaughlin and Thøger Lund (Giant Sand). We’ll be screening all of Brent’s films (some new ones, too!)

with live narrations and improvised soundtracks. The show starts at 8PM. That’s a hell of a band, and we hope you can show up for it.
