DNSSEC and Windows: Get Ready, ‘Cause Here It Comes!
Genre: eLearning | HF: 226 MB

Question: When is your bank’s Web site NOT your bank’s Web site? Answer: After some criminal hijacks your bank’s DNS domain, fooling you and other bank customers into divulging your usernames and passwords to that criminal’s Web server. (And don’t think that anti-phishing software would help here — it doesn’t!) DNS was long considered to be the safe, secure bedrock of the Internet. In the past few years, however, an age-old, fundamental set of DNS vulnerabilities have led to attack approaches like the online banking theft scenario (which, by the way, is not simply a fantasy — a proof-of-concept attack of its type unfortunately worked quite well). What to do? The answer among most Internet infrastructure experts is to implement a series of DNS extensions collectively called “DNSSEC,” a technology first proposed in 1997. Despite DNSSEC’s age, you’ve probably either never heard of it or never had a reason to care much… but that’s all changing. Since 2009, DNSSEC implementation has kicked into high gear. Many important top-level domains like .gov, .org and much of the root zone are now on board with DNSSEC, with .com and .net compliance soon to follow. The good news, then, is that DNSSEC’s finally getting some traction and so the bad guys’ opportunity to seize control of DNS is being steadily eradicated. The bad news is that unless your Windows client and server software understand DNSSEC, then you and your users sadly get no protection from DNSSEC at all. In order to play in (and benefit from) this secure new world, you need to understand how to configure and maintain DNSSEC-smart systems. Join uber-DNS-geek Mark Minasi in a look at what exact problem DNSSEC tries to solve, how it does it, and how Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 implement that solution. DNSSEC is one of the foremost “gotta learn it” technologies of the next couple of years even if you DON’T plan to sign your zone, so don’t miss this talk from the only guy who can explain DNS things and still keep you awake!

Description:
Deep Dive into Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Team Foundation Server Reporting.
This sessions dives deep into understanding Team Foundation Server 2010 reporting. We very briefly overview the provided reports, both SSRS and Excel that come out of the box, before diving into what makes these reports possible. We dive into the behind-the-scenes data stores: the TFS_Warehouse and the OLAP cube, and understand their relationship as well as their structure. Then we step back up into the world of reporting where we create and extend reports from WIQL queries (built-in capability), create new Excel pivot-table reports and host them on a SharePoint portal, and modify SSRS reports. Finally, we look at how to make decisions about what data to capture to help drive overall process improvement.

Algorithms and Computational Complexity Tutorial

In mathematics, computer science, and related subjects, an ‘algorithm’ is an effective method for solving a problem expressed as a finite sequence of instructions. Algorithms are used for calculation, data processing, and many other fields. (In more advanced or abstract settings, the instructions do not necessarily constitute a finite sequence, or even a sequence; see, for example, “nondeterministic algorithm”.)

Each algorithm is a list of well-defined instructions for completing a task. Starting from an initial state, the instructions describe a computation that proceeds through a well-defined series of successive states, eventually terminating in a final ending state. The transition from one state to the next is not necessarily deterministic; some algorithms, known as randomized algorithms, incorporate randomness. [source = Bing Reference]

Here, the great Yuri Gurevich, mathematician, computer scientist and inventor of abstract state machines, will teach us about algorithms beginning with this introductory lecture that includes plenty of historical context. This is the first in a series of lectures exploring the fundamental logic that powers all that we as software engineers and computer scientists do in computing–the algorithm. What is an algorithm, exactly? You may be surprised to learn that this is actually not a very simple question…

Find some time to watch this introduction on a truly fascinating topic by one of the world’s premiere minds in the field of mathematical logic and algorithms. We designed this to increase in complexity over time, like a typical college course, so Yuri moves slowly through several topics, providing plenty of time for viewers to catch up before moving on to more advanced topics.

You’ve learned a fair amount about the functional programming paradigm’s foray into general purpose imperative progamming languages (LINQ, Lambda’s, etc in C# and VB.NET). And, of course, the newest language to join the Visual Studio family of languages, F#, is a functional language. You’ve heard us say how important functional language constructs are to the our current languages’ capabilities to evolve in the right direction to meet the needs of the many-core future (the need for reliable and comprehensible concurrency, parallelism, etc) and, most importantly, to help vault computer programming into an age of compositionality (remember our talks on 9 regarding composability and evolution of software engineering as an engineering discipline?). Well, we decided to take a step back and teach you the fundamentals of functional programming at a level equivalent to any university. We even have a text book and professor who will expand our minds.

In this video, Dr. Meijer teaches us about the art and practice of defining functions. Functions can be defined using conditional expressions and in Haskell conditional expressions must always have an else clause. Functions can also be defined using guarded equations and pattern matching. You will learn about list patterns and integer patterns. Today is also the day that you will learn about lambda expressions and sections.

In this video, Dr. Meijer explores types and classes in Haskell. A type is a collection of related values and in Haskell every well-formed expression has a type. Using type inference, these types are automatically calculated at run time. If expression e returns a type t, then e is of type t, e :: t. A function is a mapping of one type to another type and you will learn about new types of functions in this lecture, specifically curried functions: functions that return functions as a result (and functions are values, remember) and polymorphic functions (function with a type that contains one or more type variables).
