Samsung x180 has appeared in Korea with a 11.6-inch display and the latest Intel Calpella platform featuring the Intel Core 330UM i3-processor running at 1.2 gigahertz.

The display's resolution is 1366 × 768 pixels and is illuminated by LEDs which is pretty standard. Samsung also built in 3 gigabytes of RAM and an Intel GMA card with HD.
Looks like Moorsetown is hitting the streets of China in August, the Intel Atom Z650 1.9GHz processor can be found in a Chinese tablet, Teso. Teso has on display this 9.7-inch tablet available in two flavors – Atom Z515 1.2GHz or Atom Z560 1.9GHz.

The Z515 version runs Windows 7 OS while the Z650 version comes with either MeeGo or Android. The reason for the differing operating system is that the new Intel Atom Z600 processors "Moorestown" architecture is fundamentally different from its predecessor the Z500 series. As far as we know the new chipsets offers no support for a normal BIOS, but supports what's called a Simple Firmware Interface (SFI) and some specific BIOS options. This means that it can not be used with Windows which is for x86 systems.

Yesterday Intel announced that it has created a breakthrough data-transfer technology using a combination of silicon chips and lasers to transfer data over a fiber optic cable at a speed of 50 gigabits per second. Copper wire's top transfer speed is about 10GB a Second, Intel Silicon Photonics Link is fast enough to transfer an HD movie in one second, or transfer 1,000 high-resolution photos in a second, or a 100 hours of music in a second, or send 45 million Tweets. We thought that USB 3.0 is going to change the way we deal with data and that is only offering 4.8GB a second transfer speeds.

It will take Intel some time to perfect the manufacturing of the device. But it now has all of the necessary building blocks for hybrid silicon and laser components to commercialize silicon photonics. Want to see it in action? The video is below.

At the 25th Anniversary Toshiba Press conference in Taipei, we were able to get our hands on the Portégé R700. Toshiba has decked out the Portégé R700 with several options with regular Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 CPUs. Initially there will be five models offered in the Portégé R700 range and their specifications will vary, the ability to run up to 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM (via two stacked memory modules and using the 64-bit version of Windows 7) and the ability to run a third-generation solid-state drive (SSD) with a storage capacity of up to 256GB. We were able to get our hands on the Core i5 and a regular HDD.

Graphics performance will be handled by the integrated Intel QM57 chipset, which will be powerful enough to drive the 1366x768-resolution screen, as well as Full HD resolution via the HDMI port. You also get two USB 2.0 Sleep-and-Charge ports, VGA, a combination eSATA/USB 2.0 port, headphone and microphone ports, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, an SD card slot and, depending on the model you choose, you'll get an ExpressCard slot and a built-in 7mm thick DVD burner. We also have heard that the machine has a decent 6 hours of battery life.

Frequent travelers or anyone else looking for a highly portable but powerful notebook will find a lot to like about the Portege R700.
