I've been working on a special play list for this week but I awoke with a migraine that I cannot shake. So instead I've decided on a 'do-over'. One of my most favorite "Now and Then" shows from 2008. Here's the text: Once again NetteRadio is proud to present out "Now and Then" show where we feature tracks from an artist's more recent release followed by a track from a previous work. It is interesting to compare and contrast within each artist, to see how some themes carry forward as in Rise ending up with an unintentional sequel to "Time and Tide" with "I Will Love You Always" or with Susan Cantey, whose love for working with children (she is a teacher) has lead her to her best sell CD "The Tree of Calculus". Even our own writing has carried a theme forward over the years... we released "Cat Wants Out" in 1994 (OMG!) and Russian Blue in 2006. That's 12 years and we're still writing about cats :)

Here at home Rhythm from San Diego based 'Rhythm and the Method' who was recently and brutally attacked in a hate crime for simply kissing her girl friend and on the other side of my world Laura Ling and Euna Lee, two female reporters being held in North Korea... small pawns in a very big and cruel game.
I've selected this week's songs carefully and they tie together beautifully by one simple track, Los Angeles artist Michele Vreeland's "I'm A Person". Please listen and share.

While we are working hard this weekend to raise funds for the UNOS.org at the LA GoGirlsMusicFest I will also collect gently used/new clothes for victims of the SoCal fires. Once again NetteRadio is proud to present our "Now and Then" show where we feature tracks from an artist's more recent release followed by a track from a previous work. It is interesting to compare and contrast within each artist, to see how some themes carry forward as in Rise ending up with an unintentional sequel to "Time and Tide" with "I Will Love You Always" or with Susan Cantey, whose love for working with children (she is a teacher) has lead her to her best selling CD "The Tree of Calculus". Even our own writing has carried a theme forward over the years... we released "Cat Wants Out" in 1994 (OMG!) and Russian Blue in 2006. That's 12 years and we're still writing about cats :)

It was almost as warm as July today.. okay maybe not *quite* but it was in the mid 70's, sunny and as I walked to the post office to pick up my NetteRadio mail today I thought about how happy I was that I'm here in LA! It definitely felt like "July in January" and a bit fitting since we are finally getting to play the songs from last week's playlist. What happened?? Our hosting company chose last Wed evening to relocate to a new facility and neglected to send out an email notifying users that all services would be down. So, I apologize to anyone looking for our live broadcast! We have rescheduled all of the songs from last week to this week's show with the exception of our CD Preview of "Keyboard Cathy - Sushi Lover". We have so much going on tonight we're rescheduling Cathy for January 30th, so make a note on your calendar!!!

Now on to this week. Our show is packed full of artists performing at both the Long Beach and Los Angeles GoGirlsMusicFests although I did add a few artists to the top of the show. Along with an eye on the weather and Cat Friendly "The Histrioniks" I included Dallas artist Cynthia Bennett and her Airport Security Song. Cynthia's song last week was cut short AND I love her dig on airport security. While I do feel we need strong airport security I think oftentimes it is a little bit misguided and an overzealous attack on the elderly who seldom fight back

Well, I'll be the first to admit it.. last week's show was a little bit on the sucky side, but it had nothing to do with the great music...only our horrible internet connection (or lack thereof!) We dedicate this show to Peony (Fishy of Fishy/Froggy fame) who finally passed yesterday. I will miss my fishy who was very pretty and playful but had been ill since Christmas and had hung on much longer than I ever imagined possible. Peony is buried under the rose bush near Anansi the tarantula and I was pleased to see a young katydid bouncing around. I instructed the katydid to guard the graves and she nodded sagely and watched the proceedings with great interest. Miss Sophia could not partake as she is currently under house arrest!

So this week we have a bit of the blues.. nothing like peppering a midsummer's show with a bit of the blues when you're melancholy to cheer you right up. With the talented artists on this week's playlist we'll be tapping our feet and humming right along! Of course, I threw in some dance in the middle and then a little punk rock just to stir it up!

June is just around the corner and that means it's officially Birthday month here at NetteRadio! We put on our party hats and don't stop celebrating until well into July when Doug says he's finally had enough!! This year is a special year because I'll finally know everything.. for the next year I'll posses the ultimate answer and I can't wait. Doug and I watched Dave Cool's documentary film "What is Indie" this weekend and we give it a resounding "Thumbs Up". This DVD is the best resource for artists looking to get started in Indie music and the best pick-me-up for artists who are starting to lose hope.

The movie provides a roadmap for all Indie artists alike and is entertaining and well thought out. With insights and tips from Derek Sivers of CD Baby, Panos Panay of Sonicbids, and Suzanne Glass of Indie-music.com as well as top Indie artists like Ember Swift (who is on this week's playlist) we took notes as we laughed!
