Blue-chip advertisers seem to justify the tough qualification standards for RealTechNetwork. The site is geared for low involvement from high-traffic publishers. If you have the number to convert the RealTechNetwork rates and don’t want to be bothered with constantly adjusting your offerings, this may be the company for you. Although there is some negative blogger buzz about their rates, most of this info seems out of date as the company continues to improve the things that matter- including its payment schedule.

Interface 7/10

RealTechNetwork aspires to be your complete fire and forget network solution. Upfront, all your questions are answered and sign-up is straight-forward. If you qualify and you’re happy with the results, no problem. For publishers who want to view detailed reports and tweak their offering depending on traffic patterns, the lack of control may make RealTechNetwork a somewhat more frustrating experience.

Like the entire RealTechNetwork business model, support services feel a step removed. Support is there and available by email, but the company seems to shepherd publishers towards a sit-back-and-watch role. The upside is, RealTechNetwork has a monitored forum which is a feature missing from almost all other networks.

As the company grows, so goes the business model. For mid to large-size publishers who make the cut, crunching the numbers to see if RealTechNetwork meets your payment expectations makes perfect sense. Bigger publishers looking for a reliable no-hassle company with great offerings should put RealTechNetwork near the top of their test list.

A better-than-average site in terms of form and function scores high marks for its content filters. In the past, some publishers complained about the quality of their offerings, but the company seems to be moving in the right direction on this front. The thing that keeps ValueClick top of mind for so many small to medium publishers is the controlled offered in adjusting their content, and the always up-to-date products- such as interstitials- and top-of-the-line visitor tracking. Features and service often only reserved for big publishers in the top tier networks are made available to the little guy with ValueClick.

The treatment publishers receive is always professional and helpful. With this degree of service readily available and so much of the set-up and maintenance intuitively built into the ValueClick site, perhaps there’s no need for assigned reps for every account- and perhaps the business model doesn’t allow for it. Publishers can apply to one great catch-all for access to all the offerings of a whole bunch of networks. Great design, great fundamentals and function; this site is a winner. But, already some users are concerned that what worked pre-signup, now doesn’t work thru Rubicon. And if Rubicon ever starts to seriously squeeze the profits of its network partner, so that they become viewed as competitors, their business model might have problems. But, with a one hundred and thirty network depth that includes the top-tier players, they might just be on to a very good thing.

Once you’re in the system, you can track where your successful hits are coming from and make minute adjusts that are easy to follow. Everything works well, well designed and sign-up is easy. The thing is- you have to get past the endless sales pitch at the beginning to get to the product. Somewhat over PR’d. And truth is the product sells itself.

The overall take on Rubicon so far seems to be fairly positive. It could be a certain amount of goodwill might exist because so many publishers would like to see this idea work. Also helps when you spend a fortune on Public Relations. That said, there have been a handful of reports about service and payment issues. For a company barely two years old, the publishing community seems to have decided to give those growing pains a pass because other aspects are good. A year from now, Rubicon had better have its payment and service delivery completely watertight. Nothing can kill a start-up, good idea or not, faster than bad word-of-mouth. And a year from now you can bet someone else will be cribbing from the Rubicon experience and setting up their own ‘network of networks’. If they want to stay number one in this category, they’d better stake their claim right now by doing everything absolutely right.

Are Rubicon and its offerings going to deliver the jump in traffic that is worth it to your bottom line? If so, then 10% is money well spent. The problem is if you don’t see a 10% increase in return from your existing relationships, then it seems like a tax just to get a centralized bill. Other feedback is more interesting. Websites that use the Rubicon project indicate that what once worked pre-Rubicon now doesn’t. You need to keep a close eye on performance changes and test original relationships constantly to ensure that you don’t see your eCPMs slide. The bonus is you’ll no longer have to deal with your payments coming in by dribs and drabs- Rubicon will consolidate the results of your entire network resulting in one easy payment.

Delivery of ads to publisher sites is sometimes hampered by the constrained technical specs of their offerings, but relative to its size, (huge) the complaints are few and far between. The only problem I have personally had with Casale is an extreme level of conceit with the staff. If you do not have to deal with the business development people or the management, you may have a great experience.

InterCLICK is a still-solid choice for a second tier network when other qualifying criteria of other companies are out of your reach. However, interCLICK has lost some of the shine it held just a few years ago. Some of the innovative products they offer, especially the ground breaking options available to publishers in interstitials, may make it worth your consideration. A recent track record of delayed payments may not warrant a red flag, but certainly a yellow. For some, these payment issues reflect an overall decline in position that is continuing steadily downward.

The Tribal Fusion business model is centered on high volume traffic from high-quality publishers, which also means high standards for choosing their business partners. Listed as CPM-only, the list of publishers Tribal Fusion carries tends to be pretty exclusive at around only top 1000 sites. Great if you can get in, because the adverting offerings also tend towards premium and brand clients. Add in great customer service and great filter options and you can build a click-worthy site - even if the return may be less than some other companies.

Most publishers report the site as easy to use and give high marks for the quality of information available about accounts and payment details.
