Every month, more and more people check out Craigslist for information about products and services. Alexa.com reported that just last year the site had over 13 million unique viewers. As you can see that, is a lot of publicity. Each day, more than 500,000 companies and individuals post job availabilities. Imagine, the biggest and best place to find a job, and even post a resume!

There are community listings, real estate listings, even some erotic and �??massage�?? type services are listed. Founded in 1995 and incorporated in 1999, Craigslist offered listings in just nine U S sit-tees. Since then, Craigslist has expanded to include more than 450 cities across the globe.

The company became popular mainly by word-of-mouth as more and more people started using the site to place their classified and other assorted ads. The reason for its popularity? ads are cheap and get a lot of exposure.

How did the name craigslist come into being?
Craig Newmark, entrepreneur, founded the site without knowing how large it would grow. His early designs were to simply create a classified listing for local and regional events. Little did he know how fast his service would grow.

One reason for its popularity is its simplicity. Who wants to log online and search paper after paper for job listings? Instead of posting a job in a local market, advertisers can place their ads in a forum that reaches both a national and international audience!

You can also search for items using a keyword search tool, thus greatly reducing the amount of time spent sifting aimlessly through irrelevant information.

As with any popular site, Craigslist has had its fair share of controversy, including opposition from some people opposed to the types of ads placed on the site. Some local newspapers have expressed fears that people would no longer turn to their local news listings for classified information, thereby reducing their subscriber base. Such is technology.

Craigslist now offers forums and message boards for its members. Among the more popular forums on the �??List�?? is the �??Erotic�?? forum, for users over the age of 18.
Craigslist allows just about anyone to post information about anything they have to offer. It is also heavily policed to ensure ads are legitimate and legal.

Despite the controversy, craigslist has earned its reputation and status as a leader in Web 2.0 sites, receiving many awards, including Best Local Website in 2003 according to a reader�??s poll and the Best Community Site by multiple agencies .

Autoresponder Challenges:

Unexpected Differences Left Rookie Marketer With Egg On Her Face

My autoresponders seemed to work exactly alike. Sure, if I had tested and used the diagnostics, I would have noticed sooner that something was amiss, but I was too busy just keeping up with the newsletters…

My first autoresponder was Aweber. It’s extremely user friendly and I quickly learned how to work it. My list grew too, albeit at a glacial pace.

To speed things up, I decided to acquire some additional leads by way of co-registration, which meant that basically the service advertised my newsletter and people signed up. Then it sent me their information, and I was supposed to import them into my autoresponder.

But there was the rub. Aweber won’t allow that.

So I needed a second autoresponder. As it happened, I figured I would need a shoppingcart system anyway, at least eventually, so I signed up for a shopping cart system that came with an autoresponder and that did allow importing my new subscribers.

All was well, or so I thought. I fed in the names, I wrote newsletters, but the response I got was zero.

I attributed that to the source of the list and stopped advertising my newsletter.

Until recently… when I decided to give it another shot, especially since my newsletter had gotten a lot better lately.

I also decided I should sign up for my own newsletter (a bit belatedly), and was puzzled when I got bunches of my messages all at once, and then… nothing. What the heck?

When one of my mentors mentioned that he sent out “birthday” greetings (with a special offer) to his list members on day 365 since they joined his list, I thought, hmm, won’t that take quite a bit of math to tally up all those numbers?

And then it hit me: Aweber and my shopping cart require different labeling systems:

Aweber wants me to tell it how many days after the LAST message the new message should be mailed. So I typically added a “3″ or a “4.” And it worked beautifully.

I did the same with my shopping cart autoresponder. Alas, that’s why I got them all at once. The shopping cart sent me all messages labeled with a “3″ on the third day, the ones labeled “4″ on the fourth, and the ones labeled “5″ on the fifth.

That clearly was not what I had intended.

As it turns out, the shopping cart autoresponder wants its emails labeled by the number of days since day zero, i.e., the welcome message!

I also discovered that if I added a message with a number that was lower than the number of days a person had already been a member of that list, he or she would not get that mailing at all. Which means, hardly any of the follow-up messages actually reached their intended audience since I had added them with considerable delay. Not a problem for Aweber, but a big problem for my shopping cart.

So I sent a very apologetic broadcast to my list and went about fixing things. I renumbered all the messages and then manually reset the affected list members to the approximate date where they had stopped getting messages to get them caught up with the back messages.

Hopefully, they will forgive me and remain on my list. Those that do will probably be a whole lot happier with my newsletter now that it will actually arrive when it is supposed to.

If you do, you would be surprised with the number of them that will actually buy the product. It’s a clear-cut case of supplying something to individuals who are making a demand for that particular item.

There are several different ways to pull traffic that are interested in specific items. Some of these ways are very standard forms of marketing on the Internet and others are a little bit sneaky.

An example of standard marketing would be search engine optimization or perhaps pay per click marketing. A sneaky technique would be posting in forums and leaving a link to your affiliate program.

To be honest, it doesn’t really matter how you get the traffic to your website as long as you’re doing so without breaking any laws. If somebody is interested in what you have to offer, they will be happy to pay for it and you will be happy to make the sale. That’s the best way to make money with affiliate marketing.

Are you using things that talk about your company like: we, we’re, we will, ours, and so on. If so, then you are talking more about the company and not really relating to the people that are reading it.

You have to make this appeal to the people by telling them how it will affect them, not how it will affect you!

Whenever you are writing your web copy, you need to try and say things like you can, yours, you, etc. You need to be showing how your products or services are going to be helping the people that are using it.

Try to avoid things that are going to talk about your company. The only place that you need to talk about your company is on the “about us” page of your website. Other than that, you need to appeal to the people that may want to buy the product.

If you are not a good copywriter, it may be a good idea to hire a professional copywriter to develop great copy for your website. People reading your website typically scan the page rather than read every word. Consequently, it’s crucial that you have the right words to grab and hold the visitor’s attention. That way you are sure to get a web copy that talk to the right audience.

How To Promote Your Internet Marketing Start-Up With PLR Articles

What is a private label rights (plr) service and how can it best be used to help you master the net and successfully promote your Internet marketing start-up? What are the pitfalls to be avoided in using plr articles?

A plr service produces a certain number of articles and even full-length ebooks every month for its subscribers. The articles are available to all the subscribers and they have the right to publish the material on their websites or elsewhere. The idea is that plr articles enable Internet marketing start-ups to build content quickly and are an option that many busy website owners are keen to use to add content to their sites under their own names. Plr ebooks may also be republished under the subscribers own name and marketed as new products or offered as incentives to visitors to sign up for their newsletters.

These features are said to give plr users extra credibility and make it more likely that a visitor will return to their site, or even go so far as to buy something.

However, remember at the beginning I asked “What are the pitfalls to be avoided”?

Well, there is just one pitfall, but it is a rather LARGE one that must be negotiated before you rush off to sign up with a plr publisher and start posting articles to your site.

That there pitfall is called “dooplicate content.”

Always remember: Gooogle just hates doooplicate content.

If you publish an article without making any changes to it, it will be identical to numerous articles found on many other sites. Your article will therefore be rated as “duplicate content” by the search engines.

The reason for this is that search engines aim to present their users with material that is useful, unique and relevant to their search terms. So, if 100 subscribers of a plr publisher simply paste and post the same articles on their sites, search engines that lack a “duplicate content” filter would turn up 100 identical articles for their users. As someone who probably searches for stuff on search engines, you can imagine how pleased a user would be with the results of their search if the first ten pages turned up identical sites! A search engine that did not filter duplicate content would soon go out of business as searchers would avoid it like the plague.

If you plan to use plr content, first check out how many other sites are using the same article before you publish it. You can easily do that by copying a sentence from the article straight into a search engine. Place inverted commas around it to narrow the search down to that exact string only. You’ll probably discover that as many as 100 or more sites have already beaten you to it and published the article.

If, on the other hand, you find just a handful of articles, and if it is a Google search you are conducting, don’t jump to the conclusion that your article is still quite fresh and new… Look out at the bottom of the listings for Google’s duplicate content message:

“In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 5 already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included.”

The last part of that sentence links to the full search results and you will almost certainly find many many more copies of the same article have been published.

So, is there a way to get your plr articles out there without suffering any penalties?

Yes, there is, but there are some steps you must take first. Here they are.

1. Make sure you write your own unique title for the article.

2. Write a unique opening paragraph for the article.

3. Sorry, but you also need to rewrite large chunks of the second, third and probably fourth paragraphs too. Actually, once you get used to the process it is not so difficult. Read a few sentences at a time, then rephrase them, turn them around and mix them up.

4. Write your own closing paragraph.

You will now have four to six paragraphs that are in your own words and that are therefore very unlikely to be counted as duplicate content.

Just how much of the article you rewrite is up to you. The more your rewrite and, the more changes you make, the more original the article will appear to both the search engines and your site’s visitors.

Well, you may ask, by the time I’ve done all that I could have written an original article from scratch. Of course, if you can write articles from scratch that is to be encouraged, and indeed, even if you use plr articles, you should still aim to write at least some articles entirely by yourself.

You will find that writing your own article takes longer than reworking a plr article, however. Plr articles can be rewritten in just a few minutes once you have got used to the process, so they save you a lot of writing time - and they also save you many hours of research.

Used properly, therefore, plr articles are a valuable tool in increasing both your personal productivity and your presence on the Internet.

Next, you have to think of words that draw people in. There are certain words that people like to see when they read a headline. Some of these words are ”free”, ”guarantee”, ”lowest prices”, and ”great deals”. By using some of these words in your headlines you are going to get a lot more action on your site.

The next way to go about writing great headlines is to hire someone to do it for you. Although this may be the easy way out, it will cost you some money. However, there are a lot of positive things that come out of having a professional copywriter doing it for you. Not only can you have a professional writing your ad, but you can rest assured that it is going to go out loud and get some attention, and that is the whole point of making these Attention-Grabbing ads.

If you are going to spend money on a freelance copywriter to design your ads, You might as well want to make sure that your ads appeal to the right market. A lot of times, freelance writers will know the different trends and what people are looking for in that market place. That is the kind of thing that is good to have on your side.

On average, 80% to 100% of people will read your headline copy, however only 30% will read the rest.
The better the headline, the better your odds of beating the averages and getting what you’ve written read by a larger percentage of people.
