After a long week of travel through the UK I had a lovely homecoming session with baby Alex and his mum. Doesn’t he have the sweetest smile?

Time for another sneak peek! When I arrived at little Seán’s house his Mum told me he hadn’t been at his best and she was worried we wouldn’t be able to get any shots. Well, little Seán was a total gentleman, he didn’t even fuss and he gave us loads of lovely poses. Not bad for a little guy who wasn’t feeling 100%!

This little guy really stole my heart, such a sweetheart. His house is full of the loveliest colours and details so I was spoilt for backdrops to play with and little Seb was such a patient model:

Two questions that I get asked often are: Do I photograph older babies? and Do I shoot in colour as well as black & white? The answer to both is Yes! I love the newborn phase and because it goes by in a blink I always encourage people to do it as soon as possible but I’ll photograph babies of all ages and every stage has its own charms. As for colour v black & white, I think black & white creates a timeless look (plus it’s particularly fogiving to a baby’s skin tone) so I will process every photo that way but if a photo jumps out as being suited to colour I will do a colour version as well.

So, onto today’s sneak peek. Baby Eva gave me an excuse to answer both the questions above, she’s 14 weeks old so a little older which meant we could get plenty of smiling and eye contact as well as some shots of her getting some “tummy time”. Plus the beautiful golden light that we had on the day was just calling out for some colour:

Another sneak peek, this time twin boys who slept through their whole session. They were just so tiny but very happy to curl up together and pose for the camera.

And of course, their little feet. I can’t let a session go by without getting my fix of tiny baby toes.

I’m a bit of an OCD person, plus I enjoy working with Photoshop. Put those two things together and you get me sat at my computer (mostly late at night when Eve is in bed) working on photographs. Usually it takes about 2 weeks from the day of a session to prettify all the photographs and present them in their gallery. But, there’s always a few photographs from every session that just jump out at me when I’m first looking through them, ones that make me smile and that I can’t wait to get started on. Soooo, I’m introducing a new sneak peak feature. Just a little taster of a session the day after so you don’t have to wait so long to see some of your photos. Just a quick post to say that Newborn will be at Christmas at Clermont in Rathnew this weekend.

It all kicks off tomorrow evening at 5pm in Clermont House and will be running all weekend with free admission and lots of local artisans and craftspeople showing and selling their wares. It might be a good place to do a bit of Christmas shopping, I know I’m hoping to cross a few things off my list. If you’re there please stop and say hi.

One of my favourite details to photograph in a newborn session is their tiny little feet. It can be bit of a speed sport trying to capture them because they rarely stop moving…kicking and curling and stretching…probably delighted to be free to do it! Here are a few random favourites from some recent future footballers, ballerinas, marathon runners and long-jumpers.

I just fed my blanket addiction with these two beautiful woollen throws. They’re so soft! They’ll definitely be making an appearance in some sessions this week along with my new basket.
