"Nothing is a new commercial creative agency formed by Michael Jansen and Bas Korsten that has just opened its doors in Amsterdam. While the city houses the KesselsKramer agency in a fairly unconventional building – a nineteenth-century church – the Nothing office is an unusual construction too, in that it is built almost entirely out of cardboard. They sent us some great pictures of the space, which was created by designers Alrik Koudenburg and Joost van Bleiswijk…"

Illustrative launches new art magazine OBJECTS

Just received from our friends at German publisher “Illustrative”: the announcement for their new magazine ”OBJECTS: The Journal for Applied Arts
”.

From the press release:
“The new magazine OBJECTS. The Journal of Applied Arts focuses on the international trends in the Neocraft movement. Following the revival of craft, the magazine deals with the latest news in illustration, graphic design, textile art, ceramics, glass and book art. The publishers, Illustrative-initiators Katja Kleiss and Pascal Johanssen, intended to launch a magazine which presents and discusses international trends in new craft. The title is programmatic: OBJECTS is interested in the individual artistic craftwork, the object. “Unique things remind us of our individuality in a standardised world,” says Pascal Johanssen, “the selection of these ‘objects’ is a statement. While design is made for the masses, craftwork is dedicated to the individual.”

Each issue features academic essays, non-academic interventions of artists and multi-paged spreads. Authors of the first issue are art critic Colleen Shindler-Lynch (Toronto), artist Robert Revels (San Franciso), designer Scott Ballum (New York) and art director Gregori Saavedra (Barcelona). The essays are complimented by plenty of illustrations. The magazine is now available at well-stocked newspaper agents and book stores.

This includes freelance drawings, digital works, printgraphic, animation, book objects or graphical installations. Analog as well as digital works can be handed in. Here's a film that caught me completely off guard. It's about the Young @ Heart Chorus from Northhampton, Massachusetts. I had no expectations going in and did indeed come away with "a new lease on life" as the movie's website, advertises.
