I would like to welcome a new sponsor to New Mac User. Backstage is a CMS agent that is designed to be a custom CMS for each of its users. I have posted below a press release from Backstage that does a really good job of describing what Backstage is. If you are in the market for a totally customized solution please click over to Backstageyoursite.com and check out the service. And again thanks to all of our sponsers.

Backstage Press Release:

4 Reasons You Should Choose Backstage to Market Your Web Site.

Backstage empowers individuals (with no knowledge of web site code) to update the content of their web sites, all on their own. It has been built to be intuitive, simple, and yet very scaleable so that it can give our clients the most freedom to be able to get what they want from their web sites.

1. Simple, Easy, Editing.

Whether you’re a novice or expert when it comes to computers, Backstage is built so
you can update your web site easily. From the first 60-90 seconds you log in, the intuitive interface makes it simple for the first-time, non-code-minded user (like an office administrative assistant) to update content without IT help. You don’t have to learn a computer language to update and edit the text, pictures, and files on your web site. Users learn the program quickly, recognizing the icons in Backstage from every-day word processing programs. Backstage is intuitive, easy to get around, and self-explanatory.

“Backstage is the most user friendly content management system on the market. It puts the management of the website back in the hands of small and medium size business owners” – Jonathan Pavoni, Frontline Placement Technologies

2. Don’t just manage content; market your site.

Backstage is integrated with the tools you’ll need to market your site. From managing your site’s keywords for better search engine optimization (SEO) to sending out trackable eblast campaigns to subscribers who have signed up through your web site, Backstage provides you with the ability to market and track your web site’s effectiveness with easy to read “smart” dashboard reports that analyze your traffic and make practical marketing recommendations for greater success. Through the Backstage software, you have one-click access to a network of designers and copywriters who can provide those services to help your site communicate.

“For us Backstage put us in control of our website’s content and eliminated the need to regularly engage internet programmers. Plus it provided us with the facility to easily distribute and manage the success of our online advertising. The ability to make an immediate impact on the quality of our customer outreach via Backstage is worth the investment.” - Adam Hartstein, Vectora Transportation

3. Free, live, personal support.

With personal assistance just a phone call or e-mail away, you can’t go wrong as you learn the basics of Backstage. Video tutorials and quick response e-mails from the support team ensure that you are never left alone in managing your web site.

Free updates and upgrades are included in each Backstage subscription. These updates include adding new features or expanding current feature capabilities. The Backstage team takes the time to listen to what its community of users say and many of the updates come directly from client feedback.

“The flexibility and friendliness of the Backstage program combined with the prompt and professional service team make editing the site a very efficient process” – Eric True, Grace Bible Church of Menifee

4. Tailor-fit to your needs.

You don’t get locked into a template box with Backstage like you do with most other popular content management systems (Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress, etc.). Backstage is flexible enough to manage a basic blog to a corporate web site and everything in between. The cutting-edge technology used in Backstage allows you to make changes to your Flash site or banner, edit all text and images, and keep your site up-to-date with the simple click of a button.

“Our site, along with the Backstage support component, is uniquely and meticulously tailored to the way we do business” - Lynne Blackman, The Charleston Renaissance Gallery

Other Backstage Benefits:

Integrated e-mail marketing & tracking

A “Smart Dashboard” that analyzes your statistics and makes marketing recommendations.

What Isuggested to here was to either save the Pages file as a .pdf or save a Word Document Copy.

If you are not sure how to save as a .doc file then this is for you. It is really simple. Open the save dialog (Command + S). If your save box does not look like the one below then all you need to do is click on the Box just to the right of the file name. It looks like a down arrow. Go thought all the steps of saving the document as you normally would, but just before to click “Save” check the box next to “Save copy as:” make sure Word Document is selected and you are good to go.

Before the release of 10.6 you could just copy an email address in Mail and when you pasted it you would just get “name@example.com.”

If use use Mail.app like I do and use the copy feature to move e-mail addresses around, and are frustrated by this new format then I have a fix for you.
The developers of 10.6 build in a terminal fix to get the paste back to the way it was before. The fix is a real simple one. All you need to do is open the Terminal and paste the code from below. ** Make sure you close Mail.app before you do this.

defaults write com.apple.mail AddressesIncludeNameOnPasteboard -bool NO

Restart Mail, and Copy Address will once again do just what it says, which is the preferred behavior for my use of Mail. If you try this and decided you prefer the default version, quit Mail and run this command in Terminal:

defaults delete com.apple.mail AddressesIncludeNameOnPasteboard

Open Mail.app again and you should have the paste function of 10.5 back. If for some reason you want to undo this then you can use the code below to undo the hack.

However, you may find iCal getting cluttered with such regularly-scheduled events, pushing other events out of view. But there’s a simple solution to this problem.

Go to File » New Calendar » On My Mac, and name the new calendar Reminders or something similar. Put all of your reminders in this calendar, and make sure they all have alarms. Then, simply click on the checkbox next to the Reminder calendar in the sidebar to hide the calendar. Alarms for the hidden calendar will still go off, but all your miscellaneous reminders will no longer clutter your iCal window. (This “hide in other calendars” strategy is useful for other things as well.)

To save an entire e-mail exchange from Mail.app to a text file, select the messages you want to save. Then select File: Save As…, and save the messages as plain text or rich text wherever you want. That file will have all the selected messages ordered by date.

If you’d rather have save the messages as a PDF file, choose File: Print…, open the PDF drop-down menu and choose Save as PDF. This will save each message as a separate PDF. (You’ll probably want to create a temporary folder to hold them first.) Once Mail is done saving all those PDFs, open the first one in Preview, open the Preview sidebar for that window, and drag all the remaining PDFs from the folder to the sidebar. This will create a single PDF with all of the messages ordered by date.

If you want to save an ongoing discussion periodically, you can create a smart folder in Mail that searches for the messages you want to save. Any time you want to preserve the current state of the discussion, click on the smart folder, select the messages you want, and follow the Save As… or Save as PDF routines above.
