Outsourcing as we know it, is dead.

Over the past few decades, we became accustomed to outsourcing. We often turned to countries like India and China for low-wage, low-skill workers to perform routine tasks. From customer service to manufacturing, these countries were eager to take the jobs most Americans either didn’t want to do or demanded too high a wage. But in the past few years, this pattern has drastically changed.

And unfortunately, this is a fundamental flaw within our society’s understanding of the current labor market. Which, unbeknownst to the majority of American workers, the life our middle class once cherished is now a nostalgia, gone forever.

Due to advancements in technology and an enormous gain in education levels of these workers, the American workforce is in trouble. The jobs Americans want (and have grown comfortable with for decades) are now being threatened by low-wage, high-skill workers eager to take on more duties.

Now, outsourcing no longer exists. But rather, hiring workers across the globe is simply where technologically advanced companies find the best workers. Therefore, being an educated American is not enough.

While this is a real threat to the American Dream, it hopefully serves as a wakeup call to those workers who may find themselves in a position to be replaced. It’s a call to action to get more training, to be more proactive, and to make yourself irreplaceable.

We here at New Methods have been hustling to release our first master training course. It’s a productivity master course based on a model I developed over years of study, practice, and iteration. More on the course later.

Because we’ve reached that point where we’re putting the finishing touches on it, I’ve been working late into the night and early morning hours. While I’m working I often receive text messages from friends. When I explain to them I’m working, they inevitably begin to give me shit about it. Which I always find fascinating. They say things like,

“It’s late. Why are you still working.”

“Geez. All you ever do is work.”

“Why don’t you take a break.”

I find this fascinating for a number of reasons.

One, I love working. And if I love it why should I stop doing it? Two, they don’t know what I’ve been doing all day while they’ve been at work. Maybe I was napping. Maybe I was doing parkour. Both of which I do often. Three, and most fascinating to me, is they are projecting their belief system onto me.

Just because they don’t want to work late into the night and early morning, doesn’t mean I can’t.

Just because they would rather take a break, doesn’t mean I need to.

Just because they don’t enjoy their work as much as I do, doesn’t mean I have to think of my work as any less important.

Entrepreneurs are a different breed. Sometimes we’ll get shit for it.

But just remember…

You don’t have to live the life others expect of you.
