Some basic terms, mouse and mouse actions were covered on Class 1. Today in Class 2 we are talking about standard method for command operation in Windows Operation System, Creating New folders, files and starting applications in Windows.

Standard Method for Command Operation

Operating a computer is essentially communicating with computer and making it to perform instructed tasks. So to instruct a computer system, operating systems provide different ways in interface. Microsoft Windows offers a number of methods for command operation. some of the major ones are pointed out as below:

Menu Bar

Windows provides menu bars with various menus in it. A menu is a collection of commands grouped according to the category they fall in. You can click the menu to issue a command through menu bar.

Menu can be accessed using:

mouse to click on menu
Press Alt key on keyboard to activate menu bar then use arrow keys and Enter
Press F10 key on keyboard to activate menu then use arrow keys and Enter

Toolbar

Toolbar presents more frequently used commands as button on them so that you can issue commands with one click. A toolbar has buttons in it known as tools. There can be various types of tools in tool bar such as Push buttons, drop down lists, text buttons and so on.

Shortcut Keys

Windows offers many keyboard short cut keys to issue commands without touching mouse and without going through the series of menu hierarchy. For example Alt + F4 is the short cut key combination for Start >> Shut Down command.

Short cut keys can be a single key or a combination of keys.

Hot Keys

Hot keys are another method of command operation. You can find a letter underlined in menu and toolbar text. These underlined keys are called hot keys. You can press these hot keys holding Alt key in keyboard. This will effect the same as you clicked on that menu item.

Mouse Short Cut Menu

This is called context menu more technically. When you right click on any object in Windows it will produce a menu pop-up. This menu is mouse shortcut menu or context menu and sometimes called pop-up menu too! This can be very handy to perform operations when you are holding mouse.

Dialog Box

A dialog box is a rectangular frame presented to the user when he/she is required to select some options or need to be informed some messages. A dialog box contains different controls like labels, text boxes, check boxes, radio buttons, command buttons and so on.

Hotspot

Hotspots are the location of working environment which can be used for specific operation by double clicking on it. You can double click on system tray to change system date and time. Double click on margin space of Ruler in MS Word to open Page Setup dialog box. These spaces are called hotspot.

Well, these were the seven different methods of command operation in Windows Operating Systems. After these basic terms lets learn doing a few simple actions.

Folders in Windows

A folder is the space where you store files in. The concept of a folder is similar to that of directory in DOS. Folders make it possible to organize your files so that it will be easier to find them later.

Create new folder in desktop

Point your mouse to empty space in desktop
Press secondary mouse button to get context menu
Choose New and then Folder in context menu
A folder icon is placed on desktop and the description selected. Type the name of folder and hit Enter.

Creating new folder in drives and other folders is similar to creating on desktop. If you are creating a folder inside a window that contains menu bar, you can use menu to create a new folder.

Creating New Folder Using Menu

From File menu choose New menu and then Folder sub-menu
a new folder is created and the description text is highlighted. Type a new name for the folder and hit Enter.

Files

Files are the contents you created and saved under a name. There can be files of text, picutres, sound, video, animation and anything that you saved in your computer.

There are two types of files – system files and user files. The files that are copied into your computer to run the software are known as system files and the files that are created by users for printing and other uses are user files.

Creating Files

You can create files in Windows Operating System in two ways.

Open application like notepad, WordPad, word, excel etc. and save file after typing content.
Through context menu in desktop or folders.

Right click on desktop of inside folder and choose New on context menu. Then, select from the list which type of file you want to create, such as, Microsoft Word Document, Excel Spreadsheet and so on.

Starting an Application in Windows

It is most easy to start an application in Windows Operating System. There are many methods you can make an application open.

From Start button go to Programs menu and then choose the application name from the list.
Double click the file that was created with that application.
Type the path and file name of .exe file of that application to start it.

The training classes have already started and reached to Microsoft Windows after completing Fundamentals and MS DOS.

Today’s class dealt about some basic terminology and mouse actions.

Following are the things talked in class:

Icon

An icon is the graphical representation of a file, folder or application. We can open the object it represents by double clicking icon or perform different actions by right clicking on it.

Desktop

Desktop is the workspace or working environment in windows. Windows, icons and other objects are placed on desktop and managed there.

Window

A window is framed area in desktop. Microsoft Windows operating system presents everything – the file contents, folders and applications in window. A window that contains an application is application window. Similarly there are document window, folder window and some windows system windows.

A window consists of Title bar (Control Box, Title, Minimize, Maximize/Restore, Close button), Menu bar, Tool bars, Working area, Scroll Bara, Status bar.

Taskbar

A bar usually at the bottom of Windows desktop that contain the icons of opened applications, a start button and system tray is known as taskbar.

Mouse and Mouse Actions

Mouse has a button to select and perform different action known as primary button. A mouse may have more than one button (modern mice have two or more button and a scroll wheel button). The second button on mouse that is used to open context menu or short cut menu is secondary button. Wheel can be used to scroll the window if it has vertical scroll bar.

Point

Point is a mouse action. When you place the mouse pointer over an icon or object, it is called pointing the icon or object.

Click

Click is the operation of pressing the primary mouse button once over an icon or any other object.

Double Click

Pressing the primary mouse button two times over an icon is known as double click or clicking an object two times is double click.

Triple Click

Clicking an object three times is called triple click. It might be rare but there some operations you can perform in some applications with triple click. For example triple click on a word in MS Word selects the paragraph.

Drag

Drag is to point to an object, press primary mouse button and move mouse without releasing mouse button. Drag action is performed to move objects, draw, copy objects and so on.

Drop

To release mouse button when you are dragging is known as drop.

Context Menu or Popup Menu

Microsoft Windows and Windows based applications use context menu or popup menu or shortcut menu to perform many actions easily. This menu is produced when you press right mouse button (secondary button). The options on menu are displayed based upon which object you right clicked and on which context the right button is clicked. So it is named context menu.

Continual Training for Computer Operator

The success and failure in an exam is not the result of preparation classes nor how much you make effort during exams. In fact a candidate needs to groom him up gradually every time. Computer Operator Exams are not of the type where you scored pass marks and got succeeded. Since it is competitive exam, you need to prove yourself the best among all the candidates participating in that exam.

In out case in Kathmandu, we don’t have institutes that train for Computer Operator posts conducted by Public Service Commission except those preparation classes just when the exam schedules are published. These preparation classes are not proving anything more than a hurried waste of money. One month drill will hardly be enough for anybody. Thus continual training is a must.

It was bit late when I made a contact to IT Park Inc who used to run preparation classes. Its known to very few students that IT Park runs training classes too. It was already one month class over where Fundamentals and MS DOS are already covered. The training class will continue for the next six months.

The chapter MS Windows has been started since yesterday. Icon, Desktop, Mouse and Mouse Actions, Context Menu, Different Shortcut Menus on Desktop, Taskbar and Start Menu were covered in today’s class.

I don’t know how far it will be possible, but I’ll try to follow the classes and present here the topics covered as in the training classes. I Hope, those who can’t attend the training classes will get something useful from the coming posts to prepare computer operator exams!

Online Test Computer Operator

The last three days left for the final examination day of Computer Operator. Now its the time for a quick revision of whatever you have learned through out these days. Hope you completed all of the topics referred in syllabus prescribed.

It would have been great, but I could not. I was assigned for field work all of a sudden and in the prime time had to remain away from Internet Acccess. I’d planned to complete entering all of the old question papers and allow you to test your skills online to give you some general idea about your standing.

Anyway, with the least available time one question paper of 2064 B.S. (2008 AD) conducted by Public Service Commission (Lok Sewa Ayog) is presented. Hope this will help you a bit.

Computer Operator Exam Preparation Classes Growing More Necessary!

Public Service Commission (Lok Sewa Aayog) Exams are increasingly more competitive and harder to get through. The posts for Administration Services are beyond accessible unless you devote full time. Participants for Technical Posts are still a bit relaxed, but the clear indications point towards the nearest day its never going to be the same.

Every year, there has started thousands of computer students produced from higher secondary schools and a few hundreds BCA, B.Sc. IT students from colleges. The private sector is not yet reliable and secure to be proud of being employed. Everybody can’t afford foreign employment.

There are very few seats announced every year compared to the produced manpower. There were only two seats for computer officer the year before and no seats last year. This year PSC announced for two seats. Last year 7 vacancies were for computer operator and 15 seats this year. Last Wednesday, there is a vacancy announcement for 2 Assistant computer operator posts. Looking on this trend, its evident the demand for skilled manpower is far less than the supply schools and colleges are producing.

Just before 5-6 years, anybody who knows well how to type and is able to create letters were easily selected for the post. In every government office, the computer operators there, are not that skilled, nor they need to do the top challenging job. More than 90% computer operators are just ‘”Computer Typists”. They need to be replaced. And thus, more skilled computer professionals are required. PSC restructured its syllabus just a few years ago and again there is a need to update it soon.

Now, you need to fight harder to get a job in government offices. Now, its not sufficient to be able to type letters but should possess good command over the Office Applications along with database and web pages.

Are you still skilled average? I’m afraid you need to prepare better. Since a few years, there has started some preparation classes going on. You can find advertisements on daily newspapers. I found IT Park, Apex and some others too providing preparation classes. On one hand, these classes are helping the participants grow more competent and on other equally, they are growing competition too!

This year, there are around 35 students in IT Park Inc. preparing computer operator examination for 15 seats vacancy. A tough competition is inevitable among those 35 students who are equally efficient and well skilled, spare a large number outside. Every year the trend is going to increase. Get well prepared for fierce fight. Its survival of the fittest.

Types of Selection in MS-Word and Short-Cut Keys

Selecting text or objects in a document is one of the essential skill required to use word-processing effectively. I tried to summarize and list the way to make selection for all types of selection techniques here. Check if you know all of these selecting techniques?

Normal Selection (Keyboard)

You can use ‘Navigation Keys’ along with the ‘Shift’ key to perform selection from keyboard.

Pretty simple. Yes, the navigation keys with Shift hold down effects the same cursor movement along with selecting.

Normal Selection (Mouse)

When you are working with a document, sometimes, your hands are already placed on keyboard and it is faster if you access those short-cut keys rather than jumping to snatch mouse. (I hope you are not that cat?) But if you are already holding a mouse, it is faster to issue selection command with your mouse itself. Make sure, you know all of the following selection techniques.

Click	Places cursor on mouse pointer position
Double Clicks	Selects a word
Triple Clicks	Selects a paragraph
Four Clicks	It’s too many clicks, isn’t it? Very difficult to make clicks.
Click on Selection bar	Selects a line
Double click on selection bar	Selects a paragraph
Triple click on selection bar	Selects whole document
Click and Drag	Makes selection of area covered by drag operation

Extended Selection

It might be even for seasoned word-processor users that they have never used ‘Extended Selection’ in MS-Word. Just a simple information can make your life much easier. Do you feel it irritating to hold Shift key when you make selection? There is another way. You can stick that Shift Key by Extended Selection. Following are the techniques:

Action	Effect
F8	Enables Extended Selection. Press your arrow keys or navigation keys after you press F8. You will find selection even without Shift Key Down.
F8 twice	Selects a word
F8 three times	Selects a sentence. There is no other short cut way to select a sentence.
F8 four times	Selects the paragraph on which cursor is located.
F8 five times	Select whole document
Esc Key	Turn off Extended Selection

Rectangular Selection

This is rarely used but most useful. Isn’t it controversial? If you have two column of text aligned with Tab Stops, you can’t drag mouse to select only one text block; nor can you use Shift and Arrow Keys to select as you require. The solution is Rectangular Selection.

To make rectangular selection with mouse, hold the Alt key on keyword and drag your mouse. Surprised? Yes, it is that useful.

To perform rectangular selection with keyboard, press Ctrl + Shift + F8 to enable rectanguar selection. Now you can use arrow keys to make selection. Press Esc to release.

Mail Merge in MS-Word

Mail merge is a tool in MS-Word that enables you to create multiple copies of a document with small changes in each.

Take an example of appointment letter. For every employee the format and structure of letter is almost identical except those information related to the employee.

Similarly consider a certificate below. Except some specific information such as Candidate Name and Address, the rest format and text of certificate remains same.

My boss asked me to create a notice to all the 2877 members of PS Exam to inform the release of ‘Mail Merge eBook’. I designed the notice as follows:

Look at the notice closely. Did you notice the place holders for user_name, download_link and email?

They indicate the places where the text will differ for every members. User_name will be replaced by real user name, similarly download_link and email will be replaced by real data of members.

The document above contains the structure of our invitation. This document is called “Main Document” in mail merge language.

Now, we need to send this document to all those 2877 members of PS Exam replacing those place holders. Imagine copy and paste task for those three places for all members. Oh my God! Its gonna kill anybody.

But, thanks to the mail merge operation! It will do all copy and paste work for you.

Where data comes for those user_name, download_link and email placeholders (called merge firlds)?

From a table in word document which stores the member information
From excel spreadsheet where member information is stored
From Access database which stores the member information
Any other source that mail merge supports

That’s right. Mail merge is much flexible and can accept a wide range of data sources.

Yes ‘Data Source’. This is what we call for a file that stores data to fill in place holder of Main Document. Oh yes! in mail merge language.

Mail merge operation requires two files:

Main Document: This is a file in MS-Word that contains the text and structure of document with merge fields in it. This is what needs to be duplicated for all individual letters. A good example is the notice I’ve displayed above.
Data Source: This is second file required for Mail Merge operation. This file contains the data items required to fill in the place holder (merge fields) in main document. It can be a Word document with table or Excel file or any database file. In my case I use the excel file exported from MySql database for convenience!

Data Source file serves as the back-end to provide data for the mail merge tool. It does not matter in which format and how data are stored as long as the format is recognized in Mail Merge tool. All you see from data source is the name of fields and data that are populated. Be it in Access, Excel, Word or any other behave exactly same.

Thus, Mail Merge is to merge (combine) those two documents to create the finalized version. The merged document is obtained exactly as that of Main document but all the merge fields replaced with real data from data source.

I know, thre are too many fields in the sheet. c_id, c_phone, c_street, c_city, c_state, c_zip, c_sex, c_DOB etc are not needed for current purpose. In a database all information are collected that may need at some point. For our current purpose, all we need from this database is only c_fname, c_lname and c_email and c_download to compose our merge fields <>, <> and <>. We’ll just ignore other fields when inserting field codes. You don’t need to delete those columns.

In real world situation any database contains all the fields and data that are required for your organization. There is a single database. And this database is used for all of the purposes, be it sending letters to customers or corresponds with suppliers or generating reports of weekly, monthly reports. From the huge number of fields and data, only the required fields are chosen for any particular purpose.

This is data source created in Word Table. If the numbers of records for your organization is fairly small (a few hundreds), you can collect data in Word Table. If this is the case a Word Document file can serve as the data source for mail merge operation. Excel is better when the number of records is greater (few thousands). For very large number of records (millions and billions) the database applications such as Access, MySql, Oracle etc. are best.

You don’t have any existing data? Then, there is only one way out. Start typing it. Yes, you are free to choose any formats – Word document, Excel spreadsheet, Access table. Choose according to how many records it will hold and if it is of future use?

Mail Merge Command in Word 2003

MS-Word 2003 provides two ways to access mail merge tool.

Mail Merge Toolbar
Mail Merge option in Tools Menu

You can use toolbar or access through the wizard on Mail Merge from Tools menu. I most often use Mail Merge toolbar since it is handy. If you are confused and until you are certain, you can use Mail Merge Wizard.

Number of Keys in XT, AT and Enhanced Keyboard

When I started teaching Computer Science in High Schools, the widely used text book for the subject was R. C. Khanal’s Computer Concept published by Ekata Books Distributors Pvt. Ltd -one of the largest text books publishers in Nepal. This book was almost the only text book followed in high school level Computer Science which is still true for many schools.

Later on many other books appeared. But they were clearly influenced by R. C. Khanal’s book. Almost everybody rewrote the Computer Concept in their own words. This resulted in duplicating the errors Khanal made in his book. One funny error was in the number of keys in different types of keybords.

The number of keys for different types of keyboard mentioned in the books was:

1. XT Keyboard (83 keys)

2. AT Keyboard (101 keys)

3. Enhance Keyboard (103 keys)

It is not the case only in Computer Concept. Even later editions of this book and all other books published after it repeated the information. The whole generation crammed these numbers.

What is the number of Keys in XT Keyboards, AT Keyboards and Enhanced Keyboards?

There are three types of keyboards regarding the model – XT, AT and Enhanced.

XT Keyboards (83 Keys)

The very first PC keyboard was the old 83-key keyboard used by IBM for the very first IBM PCs and PC/XTs in the early 1980s.

Immediately after the release of this keyboard IBM had to undergo through numerous complains on its design. It resulted mostly from those who were accustomed of IBM electronic typewriter. Following are the reasons that necessitated redesigning sooner:

    Cramped Physical Grouping:-

Many keys are of odd sizes, and there is no clear vertical "dividing line" for the eye between the main typing area and the numeric keypad. Even the function keys are not separated very much from the rest of the layout. Overall, it looks like a "jumble of keys"
    Poor , , Keys Size and Location
    No Dedicated Cursor and Navigation Keys
    No Indicator LEDs
    Left-Side Function Keys

AT Keyboards (84 Keys)

It was due to the feedback of its users on XT Keyboards, IBM redesigned the layout and launched along with its new IBM/AT computers.

The layout much improved, isn’t it? Numeric Keypad is separated as well as function keys. Other keys too are much improved and justifying their size and location.

It was really teasing to think “What was than one key added on AT Keyboard?” Almost all of the keys were rearranged.

The added key was “SysReq” stands for system request. You can find this key shared with Prt Scr (Print Screen) key on your keyboard. Read for more information about SysReq key.

Enhanced Keyboards (101 Keys)

In 1986, IBM introduced the IBM PC/AT Model 339. Included in this last AT-family system was the new Enhanced 101-key keyboard. Little did IBM realize at the time, perhaps, but this 101-key keyboard would become the de-facto standard for keyboards for the next decade and beyond. Even today’s Windows keyboards and fancy variants with extra buttons and keys are based on this layout.

Windows Keyboard (104 Keys)

Its interesting to know that Microsoft – a dominant software company designs, manufactures and sells some input devices time and again. It might be due to the popularity of Windows operating system, they felt it necessary to provide some short cut keys on keyboard to let users access windows features directly. What is the current generation of computers?

I asked all of a sudden after a brief pause “What is the current generation of computers?” Most of my intelligent students fired the answer even without second thought – FOURTH. The voice when many students spoke, was rhythmic. But are you sure?

I understand. It is written there in your book. Its in SLC book, its in your college book and everywhere about the classification of computer generation. There are five generations – three already passed, fourth on which we are now and fifth – the future generation.

An international conference of scientists in 1962 divided the development process of computers into 5 distinct generations with respect to the main electronic components and the technology they use.

First Generation Computers used Vacuum Tubes

Second Generation Computers used Transistors, Diodes

Third Generation Computers used Integrated Circuits

Fourth Generation Computers are using Very Large Scale Integrated Circuits

Fifth Generation Computers are supposed to use Ultra-Large Scale Integrated Circuits

Is this what you were studying and still believing? No, no, its not wrong. What you studied and are believing is correct, but I’d like to add one more information.

After hearing confident answer of my students I triggered another question just with a faint smile, “Give an example of fifth generation computer”

There was a momentary silence. Muffled whispers started to spread and very few bold students counter questioned “Are there any computers really developed from fifth generation?”

This is where most of the students who rely upon teacher and never do any research fail. Go check “International Conference on Fifth Generation Computer Systems”. Wondered to know that it was 1988 when this conference was held? I almost everyday ask my students to visit Wikipedia for each and every topic they study. They had not checked “Fifth Generation Computers” on Wikipedia, otherwise they would answer:

PIM/m, PIM/p, PIM/i, PIM/k, PIM/c are the computers developed as fifth generation of computers.

You too! update your knowledge and don’t get surprised if you see any of these names in your question paper as fifth generation computers.

Today, I am talking abut Ram Hari Regmi’s website where he has published seven class notes on C programming language ranging from Introduction up to the Structures and Unions.

I know you are busy enough preparing your exams nearing every moment. Don’t worry! Just utilize your time optimally and try to study as much as you can.

As I talked in my earlier post, participants are more competent in Windows, Ms-Word, Ms-Excel and PowerPoint but they are lot bewildered for HTML and Access. I showed you the site where you can start learning.

Some of the friends asked what for is this Access? I hope you are not that unaware about the topic, when you are preparing to appear in competitive exam. Anyway here is a website that can be pretty useful to start learning Ms-Access.

Beginner’s Guide to HTML

Yes this is the season of Computer Operator Exam and I’m focusing heavily to help participants to prepare for the exam.

It is evident that majority of students are doing good in Ms-Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint and I found them too poor in HTML and Ms-Access! This is primarily because Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint are included in ‘Office Package’ popularly known as ‘Windows Package’ in most of the institutions. As easy as it is to find a course for those applications, the other world proved to be inaccessible. Most of the institutions simply do not have those applications in their package or students did not grasp it well to be competent enough in competitive examinations like Computer Operator.

This article is in response to your emails requesting for the study materials on HTML and Access (though even heavy number of emails I’m receiving are for C++, I’m not dealing with it till Computer Operator Examination ends). It is not a bit possible for me to start writing or compiling the study materials in this short span of time when your exams are in rush. On the top of that, I thought why should I, when there are plenty of materials on the net. Let me point you to the right sites and articles that will help to grasp the essentials without loosing time.

Well today I am guiding you to HTML. Whether you wish to start from beginning (never dealt with HTML earlier?) or you’ve already possessed some treasures, you can follow this site. What is the best way to prepare Computer Operator Exam?

Are you worried by this approaching exam date? Yes, there are hardly 45 days left and no doubt heart beat are faster. Count down is already started.

Now, its time to intensify your learning curve. You should maximum utilize your time.

How you should study now?

In my previous post I referred you two preparation books – Darpan and Guru. I favored Guru. Now if you have purchased Guru follow this method.

There are 25 Model Questions Sets starting from page 395.

For today, turn your page to 395. Tomorrow, you’ll turn to Set 2 on page number 399 and so on for these coming 25 days. Remember there are only 45 days left. We have do do many other things on the remaining 15 days.

Look at your watch. Note down the time.

Take a sheet of paper, a pencil and an eraser.

Now look at the questions on Set 1 and start writing answers on the sheet of paper. Answer all 50 questions given there.

When finish all the questions note down the time again.

Did you completed all those 50 questions within 1 hour? If not, remember, time management is one of your weakness. On next time you should pay attention to time and try to finish within one hour. Every time check if you improved in time?

Now, turn the page to 500. You will find answers there. Compare the answers on book with the answers you wrote in sheet. Tick all the correct answers and cross all the wrong answers.

Did you score 45? If you answered at least 45 questions correctly, great! you are doing good. Else, realize that you need to increase your study time.

Now identify from which topic you answered wrong? Note down the name of topics from where you made most mistakes. Was it Access? Excel? HTML? Word? You traced the field where you could not run well. The rest of the day, I believe, you will read the topic and practice some questions from pages 1 to 395. Read the theory portion from the book, practice the objective question at the end of every chapter.

Now, make sure that on tomorrow’s test you will not mistake questions from the topic you practiced today.

Which book to buy to prepare computer operator examination?

This has been the season for all those exam preparation materials, books, preparation classes and all. I set out to the market last Friday for the second time, to look if new books are released worth taking note. Two weeks ago I’d purchased ‘Computer Operator Pratiyogita Digdarshan’ by Lok Raj Sharma and Tek Bahadur K.C. This time I was intending better since the exam dates were approaching closer.

I looked at the cover page, back page and one inner page to get a quick valuation. After skimming the book for about 5 to 10 minutes I purchased this book. You might be interested to know why I decided to purchase it? It was because one of the author was a Computer Officer working in Public Services Commission. Is it not something that tempts?

It is a festival of preparation materials. Some were thin with plain cover page and cheapest price (it was printed around Rs. 125.00) and some thick with flashy cover pages (more than Rs. 500). I was especially interested to know if there was a new edition of ‘Computer Operator Encyclopedia’ published by IT-Park Inc. I found more than 80% questions in last year’s exam were already on this book. Because it covered most of the questions, I got more interested on this book.

Well this year, the name of book is changed and first edition is released. The ‘Computer Operator Encyclopedia’ is now named as ‘Operator Guru’! This made me little bit disappointed. Once again first edition? Once again excuses for the silly devastating mistakes! Anyway I had to review the book and I purchased.

Though the book is priced Rs. 500.00 I got it for Rs. 400.00 that means around 20% discount!

After going through a first skimming, the theory portion Er. Chhatra Bhattarai presented is worth plausible. Huge collection of multiple choice question are no doubt great. It only disappointed me to find some silly mistakes on answers of Multiple Choice Questions. This has raised the doubt on the reliability of book. I wish he provide an errata page as soon as possible.

In spite of the weaknesses, this book is highly recommended if you are preparing Computer Operator Examination. I did not find yet any other book that better.
