I almost forgot that i do have a blog. Spending almost 19 hours a day in my studio work out on commissions i have to say that sometime i feel like my feet was not on the ground. I do miss blogging so much. I always wanted to come here more often as i need to write something and that..

To all my friends (and of course to my hatreds too...) may the new year bring peace and prosperity to all of you out in cyberspace. And if you're going to make new year's resolutions this year, think about all the new opportunities that exist to make a real difference in the world. Make your resolution to learn something new!

40% - early stage

A latest commission from ASP Mohd Rosni from malaysian police department,thank you so much! Is only an early stage about 40% and will upload an update on the next morning for sure. A background color will be add soon. Wish mr Rosni can give any suggestion about the color for the background.D

60% -2nd stage

Haven't give any details yet on faces part. I'll work out on it now. The result can be seen by tomorrow morning.D

80% - third stage

Getting closer to complete. I will add the details to the faces and clothes soon.

Lack of posts, i admitted work has been breaking me down for a while now. So i'm checking my email last night and saw one message from my twitter account asked me to draw this lovely pic. Proud to say that like i can have a good sleep tonight since Chenielle was so happy with the end result when she got her email drawing a few hours ago.

With my little .5mm mechanical pencil and covered a guy shirt, hair and some features part with acrylic washes.

Replica one of my stamp illustration displayed at national museum

I was honored to do three paintings for the 2011 stamp post for post Malaysia, thanks to Hazel Design. This was a fun job to do even though it had many challenges. The stamps was launched and released on last tuesday 18th January 2011 at national museum in Kuala Lumpur.

Scanned from the original first day cover launched on 18th january 2011 at national museum. The rabbits painting on the bottom left painted by Yem my fellow artist friend.

The original paintings will be displayed in one of the museum lobby room till mac 2011 if i'm not mistakeable. I'll get the original stamps and share it here when I'm able to..As always, thank you for stopping by.

This is a really quick color sketch that I did yesterday for History of Ramunia's book. I decided to keep things simple, tried to focus on the character part.

Still a long ways to go, but this is what I have at the end of one day of painting. I'll continue to share it on portfolio once it complete.

You might think that i'm laughing and so happy to wait for a countdown tonight. Actually it is not. Is only i am in a very positive mood because it seems that the painting at my back here is my final work for year 2010. Im quite enjoy painting this and happy with the result.
Well oh yea i still got three mores to be done before end of this year but that is only a color sketches and not much worries cause it just like having mcEgg with black coffee at 9:00a.m with someone lovely? (just kidding).

Honestly,it was a big surprised to me. I received an email notification on october 27 around 2am from Oly to check my facebook. Oly is my old friend and also my ex officemate while we worked together in Creative Enterprise as an illustrator.

As i always knew he is incredibly super talented when it comes to draw a caricature.That is why the influences of caricature style still strong when he tried to draw me a portrait. As a good caricaturist,Oly understand very well how to tackle the persona. I believe you would agree with me if you see my real photo that he might use as a reference at here.

Only God knows how grateful i am to received a compliment like this from a great friend..i'm feeling honored.

A Potrait Of Datuk Nasarudin Idris

An update of my last posted on 6th june.
Suppose to be posted on the same week but so many incoming jobs once i've done with this,thanks God.
And it's true, i can say all of them was a rushed projects which make me quite difficult to make a come back here.
But whatever, i want to tell you that the best part of all is when i learned that Mrs Dzalina was really happy with the result. And she impressed with the frame too.

This is not done yet!! It's about 50% to go complete.

A recent commission from Petronas as a gift to Datuk Nasarudin on his farewell day. I was really happy with the photo when I got the email pic from kak D . The pose look casual and charismatic.

Not too worried about what everyone thinks about the final results, while drawing.. i spent the majority of my time squinting my eyes. My objective was to capture the mood and "character". So today i'll work out on this and hopefully can make it done by tonight before send it to a frame maker on the next day. A dateline is on next wednesday which mean i have 2 days more.

Last week on thursday night, I sent the portrait to mr Rosni and we met at Jati Restaurant in PJ area. Commissioned by mr Rosni and his wife and all their family members, the portrait is dedicated to their parents for their anniversary day. We had discussed about the perfect frame to match with the portrait and a lovely part is when he promised to send me a picture of it when its framed.

My Early Sketch For The Cover

Here is the sketch of my latest book cover commission job. It's might not quite right with all the proportions. I hadn't found the time to draw for a long while so i guess this is the break-in sketch.

If everything go smooth and my editor is happy with this one, i would straightly proceed to the next step which is the coloring part,soon!

Stage One

I'll work out on this painting as a started on this month. A commission from mr Rosni and his wife and also their family as a gift to their parents birthday anniversary.

This is the first stage of the large 23.5 x 16.5 inches painting portrait i has started. The next stage of the painting will be working on the next day. I'll post it when I can. Its all go here in the studio!

In step two i tried to block the color roughly to tackle the mood and composition. I will try to post the next stage by tomorrow.

This year, The BrandLaureate added an artistic twist to the prestigous The BrandLaureate Awards 2009 - 2010.
YBhg Datuk Syed Ahmad Jamal, the National Art Laureate was invited to paint a custom piece themed the 'Colors of Branding', his enterpretation of the kaleidoscope that is branding.

Warna Tenaga' captures the energy of brands and the process of branding.

This collaboration with Datuk Syed Ahmad is part of the CSR program of the Asia Pasific Brands Foundation. Proceeds from the sale 'Warna Tenaga' will be donated to charitable organizations.

This collaboration marks the start of the Asia Pasific Brands Foundation's objective of promoting,educating and instlling the love of art amongst Malaysians and to showcase the work of great Malaysian artists.

Portrait Drawing In 5 Simple Tips

Fazrul Arhan Studio Work

A very simple and basic knowledge to draw a portrait, based on my own experiences. I would like to share it and hopefully this will help mostly for beginners.

When you draw a portrait,better try not to concentrate too much on a likeness. Just concentrate on the structure and form of the face and a likeness will come itself.
Unless your drawing a full portrait it is best to leave the background simple or even with no background at all. I believe the simplicity is the key to successful portraiture.
Wait a few days before declaring a drawing DONE!. Often it takes several days for you to become less attached to the drawing. You will then be able to notice some additional flaws and errors in the drawing. Don't feel bad about it. This is very common. It's only part of the process.

Look at the drawing upside-down. This will help you see if anything is crooked, or lopsided . If you are having trouble drawing a particular part of a portrait, turn the photo upside down too, and draw everything in that position. This will assists you in drawing accurately.
While working on a drawing, frequently look at your drawing in the mirror. Or, put your drawing up to a bright light and try to look at it in reverse. This will allow you to see weird lopsided flaws in your drawing, that you wouldn't notice otherwise. It is a great way to check any problem areas in your drawing before you work any further.

A perfect words to describe about his solo art exhibition at lobby one NSTP ( Balai Berita The New Straits Times Press ) from 1 - 31 Mac 2010.

Ahmed Fauzi is an old friend of mine when we used to work together in Dewan Bahasa Dan Pustaka. I never meet him for quite long since i resigned from DBP. Not untill last thursday when my friend Suzana mentioned that Fauzi came out on television lived talk about his art solo, made me feel like can't wait to drive to the gallery to meet him.
Ahmad Fauzi is a great artist. I love how he utilizes watercolor to bring out a refreshing interpretation in all of his mangrove series...spectacular!

Look like Fauzi has opened the heavens and showcased all his paintings for sale. Better don't just take my words, get more details in his blog.

A simple pencil color on colored paper with a minor work in photoshop CS3.

One of my commission work on last week. A portrait of Dato' Azizul Rahman Abd Samad is a gift on his birthday from his staffs. This is a very rushed project. Due to the time factor, i have made a finished about 20% more in a car since i went out to deliver the drawing early morning at 6 a.m..just to avoid a traffic jammed.
