We had a great time working with our Fall 2017 student employees at orientation today! Students learned about the library and its services by participating in a scavenger hunt, creating library design boards, troubleshooting library technology, and listening to presentations about professional development opportunities and leadership skills! Thank you to our wonderful staff and guest speakers for a successful orientation!

Earlier this week, our librarians hosted students from the MSU MI GEAR UP Summer Bridge program.

Our team assisted in preparing incoming students for their enrollment at LCC this Fall by allowing students to answer trivia questions about the library on iPads (which are available to lend out at our service desk!). Students learned about the library services and resources that will be available to assist them in their success here at LCC.

They even took time out from their campus-wide tour to take some photos with our librarians!

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller follows Achilles and Patroclus as they grow, learning the art of war and medicine, and when they travel to Troy in the Trojan War. The story is an intimate portrayal of two boys as they become men, their relationship with each other and the world around them, and how our lives are shaped by our circumstances, often unfairly. What struck me the most about the book was the writer’s style; it mimicked the tone of the old epics in a nostalgic way and I found it both shockingly simple and movingly elegant.
