Published: July 29th, 2026 | Last Updated: July 29, 2026 at 5:20 PM.

NEWPORT, MINNESOTA: A newly obtained incident report from this incident reveals the extensive law enforcement response that unfolded Tuesday evening after multiple 911 reports indicated a possible shooting inside an apartment building in Newport.

The incident began at approximately 7:43 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, when the Washington County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to Red Rock Square II Apartments, located in the 100 block of Red Rock Xing, after reports of screaming followed by what witnesses believed were gunshots. The incident was classified as a "Shooting Complaint."

Multiple 911 Reports Prompt Immediate Response

According to the sheriff's office, dispatchers received information from callers reporting that they heard someone scream, followed by two loud bangs.

Investigators later learned that one person had texted 911 saying they heard someone yell "f* you b****"** before hearing what sounded like two gunshots. Another emergency text message simply stated, "need ambo and cops."

Based on those reports, deputies believed someone inside the apartment complex may have suffered life-threatening injuries, prompting an immediate tactical response.

Deputies Form Contact Teams and Clear Apartment Building

When deputies arrived, they found no vehicles or people leaving the apartment complex. Officers quickly established containment around the building while additional law enforcement secured the exterior to prevent anyone from entering or leaving the area.

Believing someone inside may have been injured, deputies invoked the Emergency Aid Doctrine, allowing officers to enter apartments where necessary without waiting for residents to answer the door. Officers then conducted a systematic, apartment-by-apartment search using room-clearing techniques typically reserved for high-risk incidents.

According to the report, deputies searched residences, bathrooms, closets, living spaces, hallways, and common areas while working to locate any possible victims and eliminate any active threat.

Multiple Agencies Assist in Extensive Search

The operation involved personnel from the:

Washington County Sheriff's Office

Cottage Grove Police Department

Woodbury Police Department

Minnesota State Patrol

Deputies methodically searched all four floors of the apartment complex. A supplemental report also states officers checked the underground parking garage and the roof to ensure no victims or suspects had been overlooked. Officers reported that no force was used during the incident.

Search Finds No Victims, Suspects or Evidence

Despite the significant police response and exhaustive search, investigators found no evidence that a shooting had occurred.

According to the report, deputies located:

No victims

No suspects

No shell casings

No firearms

No evidence of any traumatic incident

After searching the entire apartment complex, authorities determined there was no active threat to the public.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office previously stated that deputies and assisting agencies conducted a thorough search after residents reported hearing screaming followed by two loud bangs, but found no evidence of a shooting or anyone who had been injured.

Security Cameras Showed No Suspicious Activity

A supplemental report filed the following morning states that the apartment building's manager reviewed surveillance footage after the incident.

According to the report, no suspicious activity was captured on the building's security cameras, further supporting investigators' conclusion that no shooting had occurred.

Scene Cleared

After completing the extensive search and determining there was no danger to residents, law enforcement cleared the scene at approximately 9:37 p.m. At this time, authorities have not determined what caused the screaming and loud noises that prompted multiple emergency calls.

Although the investigation ultimately found no evidence of gunfire, the reports illustrate the level of response law enforcement deploys when information suggests someone may be in immediate danger. Deputies noted that because they reasonably believed a shooting victim could be inside the building, they acted under exigent circumstances to rapidly search every apartment where assistance might have been needed.

In a statement, Newport Mayor Elliott said, “Although the investigation did not identify evidence of a shooting, we encourage residents to call 9-1-1 anytime they believe there may be an emergency or are concerned about public safety.”

Published: July 29, 2026

APPLE VALLEY, MN: A garbage truck caught fire Tuesday morning after its load ignited, prompting a response from the Apple Valley Fire Department and Apple Valley Police Department in the area of Upper 148th Street West and Diamond Path West.

According to the Apple Valley Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, when the driver of a garbage truck discovered the truck's contents were on fire. Following established safety procedures, the driver dumped the burning load onto the roadway to prevent the fire from spreading to the truck. While the sight of a pile of burning trash in the middle of the street may have caught nearby residents by surprise, officials emphasized that this is the standard and safest course of action for garbage truck fires.

Firefighters with the Apple Valley Fire Department responded quickly and extinguished the fire before it could spread beyond the discarded load. Meanwhile, Apple Valley police officers established a safety perimeter around the scene while firefighters worked and cleanup crews began removing the debris.

No injuries were reported, and officials said the garbage truck itself was saved from significant damage.

The exact cause of the fire has not been confirmed, but authorities are reminding residents to use caution when disposing of potentially hot materials. Improperly discarded charcoal, fireplace ashes, smoking materials, or other heat-producing items can remain hot for hours and ignite trash once it is collected and compacted inside garbage trucks. With the region experiencing prolonged periods of extreme heat, officials noted that residents should ensure ashes, charcoal, and similar materials have completely cooled before placing them in the garbage.

The Apple Valley Police Department also took the opportunity to inject a bit of humor into the incident, joking that while temperatures have been high enough to make it feel like "it's hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk," residents should make sure their garbage isn't trying to do the same.

Cleanup operations continued Wednesday following the fire, and traffic in the immediate area was affected while emergency crews completed their work.

Published: July 28th, 2026.

ROSEMOUNT, MN: A Rosemount resident is facing felony burglary and gross misdemeanor charges after authorities say he unlawfully entered a neighboring apartment, took a shower, put on the resident's pajama pants, and later allegedly kicked a Rosemount police officer while resisting arrest.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Dakota County District Court, Kyle Wayne Harlow, 38, of Rosemount, has been charged with one count of third-degree burglary and one count of obstructing legal process with force or violence stemming from the incident on July 26, 2026.

Victim Finds Stranger in Bathroom

According to the complaint, Rosemount police officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 2900 block of 146th Street West after receiving a report of a burglary. The victim told officers she returned home and immediately realized someone was inside her apartment. As she approached the bathroom, she discovered someone was using her shower.

Court documents state the victim knocked on the bathroom door, and a man inside responded by saying he was "just taking a shower." The victim immediately called 911.

Authorities say the man then exited the apartment wearing the victim's pajama pants. The victim told officers she did not know the man, had never given him permission to enter her apartment, and had not authorized him to take or wear her clothing.

Suspect Located Outside Nearby Apartment

Responding officers located Harlow sitting outside the door to his own apartment in the same apartment complex, according to the complaint. He was still wearing the victim's pajama pants when officers made contact with him.

Police identified him as Kyle Wayne Harlow and attempted to place him under arrest.

Officer Allegedly Kicked During Arrest

According to prosecutors, Harlow resisted arrest and repeatedly yelled, "Fake Police."

During the struggle, investigators allege he kicked one officer in the chest while flailing his arms and legs in an attempt to avoid being taken into custody.

Those actions resulted in the additional charge of obstructing legal process with force or violence.

Charges Filed

Harlow has been charged with:

Third-Degree Burglary (Commit Theft or Felony or Gross Misdemeanor), a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Obstructing Legal Process with Force or Violence, a gross misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $3,000.

A criminal complaint represents allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Bail and Court Conditions

Dakota County prosecutors requested bail of $15,000 without conditions, or $5,000 with conditions, which the judge ultimately set.

Prosecutors noted in court documents that officers recovered a pocketknife from Harlow's shorts pocket at the time of his arrest. As of the writing of this article, Harlow has not posted bail and remains in custody at the Dakota County Jail.

Prosecutors Note Possible Mental Health Crisis

In comments included with the charging documents, prosecutors stated that police reports suggest Harlow may have been experiencing a mental health crisis during the incident. The complaint notes that Harlow repeatedly told responding officers that he is a veteran, and one of the requested bail conditions requires him to connect with Veteran Services while incarcerated or after release.

Prosecutors also noted that Harlow and the alleged victim appear to reside within the same apartment complex.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Harlow is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Published: July 28th, 2026.

SOUTH SAINT PAUL: A man is facing a first-degree controlled substance charge after authorities allegedly discovered nearly 96 grams of suspected fentanyl during the execution of search warrants at a South St. Paul hotel room, according to a criminal complaint filed in Dakota County.

Thomas Wilson Stiles, 34, has been charged with one count of first-degree controlled substance crime (possession). The felony charge alleges he unlawfully possessed 25 grams or more of a mixture containing heroin or fentanyl. If convicted, the charge carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million.

According to the criminal complaint, detectives with the Washington County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a hotel room in the 700 block of Concord Street South in South St. Paul at approximately 3:15 p.m. on July 8. Investigators were reportedly targeting Stiles, who was known to have outstanding arrest warrants.

Court documents state detectives knocked on the hotel room door, and Stiles opened it a few inches before complying with orders to fully open the door. He was arrested on the outstanding warrants, and authorities reported that no one else was inside the room.

According to the complaint, while arresting Stiles, detectives observed suspected controlled substances and drug paraphernalia in plain view. Investigators secured the scene while obtaining a second search warrant for the hotel room.

During the subsequent search, detectives allegedly recovered multiple containers of suspected fentanyl, including approximately 28.6 grams found inside a jar stored in a vinyl case labeled "Tsunami," approximately 38.6 grams on a plate located on a desk, approximately 27.4 grams inside an uncovered jar on an end table, and an additional 1.3 grams in another jar. The complaint states the substances field-tested positive for fentanyl, with a combined weight of approximately 95.9 grams.

Authorities also allegedly recovered two digital scales with residue, drug paraphernalia, $2,897 in cash, two shotgun shells inside a dresser drawer, five additional shotgun shells in a felt bag, and a box containing 49 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Fentanyl is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance under Minnesota law.

The allegations contained in the criminal complaint are accusations only. Stiles is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

After the deputy activated emergency lights in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, authorities allege the Lexus accelerated and weaved through traffic instead of stopping.

The complaint states the vehicle slowed near the Lexington Avenue exit before driving through the safety zone and accelerating again to at least 100 mph. Authorities allege the Lexus changed lanes to avoid another vehicle but struck a Dodge Charger, sending both vehicles across multiple lanes of traffic and into the ditch along the right shoulder near Lexington Avenue in Arden Hills.

According to the complaint, the Dodge Charger sustained heavy rear-end damage while the Lexus suffered significant front-end damage. Investigators also reported finding a backpack containing a privately made firearm, commonly referred to as a "ghost gun," along with identification belonging to the passenger.

The allegations contained in the criminal complaint are accusations, and Worzie is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Published: July 27th, 2026.

SAINT PAUL MN: A St. Paul man is facing a first-degree controlled substance charge after authorities allegedly seized an estimated 10 pounds of methamphetamine during a controlled delivery operation, according to a criminal complaint filed in Ramsey County. The complaint also states that the defendant previously entered the United States illegally.

According to the criminal complaint, Sergio Magana-Gonzalez, 54, of St. Paul, has been charged with one count of first-degree possession of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison and/or a $1,000,000 fine.

According to the complaint, Airport Police officers intercepted a UPS package on July 24 containing approximately five pounds of methamphetamine after it was shipped from Modesto, California, to a St. Paul residence. Investigators reportedly determined that no one living at the address matched the name listed on the package.

After obtaining a search warrant, authorities removed most of the suspected methamphetamine, leaving approximately 111.8 grams inside the package along with a lookalike substance and a GPS-equipped tracking device before arranging a controlled delivery to the residence.

According to the complaint, investigators conducting surveillance observed Magana-Gonzalez retrieve the package from the front step and carry it inside the home. Officers later arrested him after he left the residence and attempted to board a bus.

Authorities executed a search warrant at the residence and allegedly found the controlled delivery package inside Magana-Gonzalez's bedroom. Investigators also discovered a second package that had reportedly been delivered by FedEx and was addressed to the same recipient listed on the UPS shipment. According to the complaint, that package contained an additional five pounds of methamphetamine packaged similarly to the first shipment.

Investigators also reported finding approximately three additional ounce-sized bags of suspected methamphetamine, along with cash and financial documents inside the bedroom.

According to the complaint, officers recovered two cell phones, approximately $2,396 in cash, wire transfer receipts, and documents during Magana-Gonzalez's arrest. Investigators also reported finding what appeared to be a fraudulent Permanent Resident Card.

During a post-Miranda interview, the complaint alleges Magana-Gonzalez identified his bedroom, provided passcodes to his phones, and investigators reviewed Facebook messages they say demonstrated his knowledge of the shipments. The complaint alleges the messages included discussions about sending money and photographs of shipping receipts matching the intercepted packages. The complaint also states Magana-Gonzalez reportedly remarked that the packages were not addressed in his name.

The suspected narcotics have been submitted to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for laboratory testing and final weight determination. Investigators estimate that approximately 10 pounds of methamphetamine were seized.

According to the criminal complaint, Magana-Gonzalez appears to have no criminal history except for an illegal entry into the United States. The complaint also alleges that National Guard Counter Drug analysts identified other individuals living at the residence who had also entered the United States illegally.

The allegations contained in the criminal complaint are accusations. Magana-Gonzalez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Published: July 27th, 2026.

SOUTH SAINT PAUL: A 29-year-old woman has been charged in Dakota County District Court after prosecutors allege she participated in an identity theft scheme that used a burglary victim's personal identification and financial documents to make fraudulent withdrawals and purchases.

According to the criminal complaint, Victoria Marlene Schmidt is charged with one felony count of identity theft involving more than $500 but not more than $2,500 in losses or two to three direct victims.

According to the complaint, South St. Paul police responded to a bank on March 3, 2026, after employees reported an active fraud attempt. Officers reportedly boxed in a suspect vehicle in the bank's drive-thru and identified Schmidt as the driver. Another woman, identified in the complaint as "VLC," was the front-seat passenger.

Bank employees told police the same vehicle had visited the bank the previous day. During that visit, prosecutors allege a male was driving, Schmidt was the front-seat passenger, and VLC was seated in the back. According to the complaint, VLC allegedly used a passport and temporary driver's license belonging to the victim in an attempt to withdraw $3,500 from the victim's account. Due to the bank's daily withdrawal limit, $2,000 was allegedly withdrawn before the victim reported the fraudulent activity.

The following day, the same bank teller recognized the vehicle when it returned to the drive-thru, according to the complaint. This time, Schmidt was allegedly driving while VLC again attempted to withdraw an additional $2,000 from the victim's account. Bank employees contacted law enforcement before the transaction could be completed.

According to the complaint, officers recovered $629.10 in cash from VLC after the arrests. Prosecutors allege VLC admitted identifying herself as the victim but claimed she did not know the checks were stolen. Schmidt also reportedly told investigators she believed the checks belonged to VLC because they had allegedly been used the previous day at a Home Depot.

The complaint states the victim had recently reported a burglary during which a passport and checkbook were stolen. The victim told investigators she did not know Schmidt or VLC and had never given either woman permission to use her identification or access her bank account.

Investigators also allege the victim's driver's license address had been fraudulently changed on Feb. 17, 2026. According to the complaint, the address listed on the victim's temporary driver's license matched an address associated with Schmidt. Prosecutors further allege DMV surveillance footage showed Schmidt, VLC, and a male together during the license update.

During a search of the vehicle, investigators allegedly found the victim's checkbook, including a carbon copy of a check written to Home Depot for approximately $2,304. According to the complaint, Home Depot surveillance footage from March 2 allegedly shows Schmidt and VLC purchasing two carts of merchandise using the victim's checks.

The charge remains an allegation, and Schmidt is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

At the same time, a 2025 Honda Passport was traveling southbound on Highway 95 and approaching the traffic signal at the interchange. Investigators say the motorcyclist separated from the motorcycle before striking the Honda. The circumstances leading up to the separation remain under investigation.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Jeremiah Thomas Miller Hurley, 28, of Hastings. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Honda, a 62-year-old man of Woodbury, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The Honda's airbags deployed during the collision.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash. Road conditions were dry at the time of the incident.

The crash prompted the closure of Highway 95 (Manning Avenue) between Highway 61 and 110th Street South for several hours Saturday morning while investigators documented the scene and crews cleared the roadway. The highway reopened later that afternoon.

Assisting at the scene were the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Cottage Grove Police Department, Cottage Grove Fire Department, and emergency medical services.

UPDATE: New information has been released regarding the second-alarm house fire that occurred Friday night, July 24, 2026, in the 17000 block of Fairmeadow Way.

According to the Lakeville Fire Chief, Michael Meyer, firefighters from the Lakeville Fire Department and Apple Valley Fire Department arrived to find an active fire that had originated in the garage before spreading into the primary residential structure. Information from the residents and Lakeville Police officers on scene indicated the fire began in the garage.

Due to the size and progression of the fire, a second alarm was requested, bringing additional Lakeville fire units and mutual aid from the Farmington Fire Department to assist with firefighting operations.

As previously reported by Limitless Media, firefighters initially mounted an offensive attack before transitioning to a defensive strategy after conditions deteriorated and concerns grew that the roof was beginning to collapse. The fire was ultimately brought under control later in the evening.

Officials confirmed that everyone inside the home safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. Because of the extent of the damage to the home, the American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced residents with their immediate needs.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, and fire officials say additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Limitless Media will continue to provide updates as investigators release more information.

Firefighters initially mounted an offensive attack, entering the structure in an effort to contain the fire. However, conditions rapidly deteriorated.

At approximately 9:25 p.m., command ordered all crews to transition to a defensive strategy after the garage roof began showing signs of collapse. By 11:04 p.m., the fire was officially declared extinguished.

Both Lakeville Police officers and the Lakeville Fire Chief confirmed that everyone inside the home escaped safely, and no injuries have been reported.
Just over an hour after the Lakeville fire began, firefighters were dispatched to yet another structure fire in the south metro. At approximately 10:50 p.m., the Apple Valley Fire Department and Apple Valley Police Department responded to the 800 block of Jonathan Drive for reports of a house fire.

Initial reports indicated the fire started on the exterior near the front of the home and garage before rapidly spreading into the residence and eventually through the roof. The incident was upgraded to a second-alarm response at approximately 10:57 p.m., prompting mutual aid requests from the Rosemount Fire Department and Burnsville Fire Department.

As the Lakeville fire was winding down, Apple Valley fire crews began leaving the Fairmeadow Way scene around 11:02 p.m. and responded directly to assist at the Apple Valley house fire.

As of Saturday afternoon, officials had not released information regarding whether anyone was injured or the extent of damage to the Apple Valley home.

Mutual Aid Played Critical Role

The busy evening highlighted the importance of mutual aid agreements between south metro fire departments.

With two house fires occurring within less than two hours of each other, departments from Lakeville, Apple Valley, Farmington, Burnsville, and Rosemount worked together to ensure adequate staffing and resources remained available for both emergencies while maintaining fire protection coverage for surrounding communities.

Investigations Continue

The causes of both structure fires remain under investigation. Limitless Media has reached out to Lakeville and Apple Valley officials for additional information regarding both incidents, including the causes, whether any injuries were reported, and the extent of damage to the homes. This story will be updated as additional information becomes available.
