Published: June 26, 2026

DAKOTA & WASHINGTON COUNTY, MINNESOTA - Earlier today, authorities from multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the Lake Elmo Park Reserve after an abandoned vehicle connected to an earlier pursuit in Dakota County was located, prompting a temporary closure of the park while officers searched for a potentially suspicious individual.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to assist the Dakota County Sheriff's Office after the vehicle believed to be connected to the earlier pursuit was discovered inside the park. Officers from the Woodbury Police Department, Cottage Grove Police Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol also responded to assist with the investigation.

A portion of the pursuit occurred around 10:30 AM on Friday, June 26, 2026, with a vehicle fleeing from Dakota County Law Enforcement onto eastbound I-494 in Washington County before it exited the highway near Lake Road and entered Woodbury, Minnesota, before officers lost sight of it. Around 11:20 AM, officers at Lake Elmo Park Reserve found the vehicle involved in this pursuit at the park. Authorities received a report of a suspicious individual near a pavilion where children and adults were gathered.

As a precaution, officials temporarily closed the park to new visitors while officers searched the area. Adults who were with the children at the pavilion took immediate action on their own, moving the children into a nearby restroom while law enforcement worked to determine whether there was any threat.

Authorities said it remains unclear whether the suspicious individual reported inside the park was the same person who fled from deputies during the earlier Dakota County pursuit. Despite an extensive search involving multiple agencies, officers were unable to locate the individual, who is believed to have left the area before law enforcement arrived.

Witnesses at the park tell Limitless Media News that police had the park closed and were searching every vehicle exiting the park.

The park has since reopened to the public, and authorities emphasized there is no ongoing danger to visitors or the surrounding community.

Investigators also confirmed that the abandoned vehicle recovered at the park has been turned over to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, which will continue the investigation into the earlier pursuit and efforts to identify and locate the individual involved.

Limitless Media News received several reports Friday morning of police activity across Dakota County, including in Burnsville, Rosemount, Farmington, and Woodbury, of a vehicle that potentially matched the description of the one fleeing law enforcement across Scott, Dakota, and Washington Counties. We have reached out to Shakopee Police, Burnsville Police, Rosemount Police, Farmington Police, Woodbury Police, the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, the Dakota County Drug Task Force, and the Minnesota State Patrol for more information on this incident, and to try to confirm if the various activities across the South Metro were all connected. We are also working to confirm the identity and charges for the individual involved in this incident(s).

Officials have not released additional information about the pursuit, the vehicle, or the person being sought. The investigation remains active. We will provide an update once we have an official statement.

Written by: Will Wight

Officers later identified him through the video.

June 5 Vehicle Break-In

In a second case, police responded on June 5th after another woman reported that someone had broken into her vehicle and stolen her wallet and credit cards.

According to the complaint, the stolen cards were later used at two Apple Valley retail stores. Investigators allege Perkins successfully purchased $300 in gift cards with one of the stolen credit cards and later attempted to purchase a Dyson vacuum valued at $1,059.61 with another stolen credit card.

A loss prevention employee reportedly recognized Perkins from a previous theft investigation and identified him to investigators. He has also been trespassed from all Target Stores in Dakota County and the Walmart in Apple Valley.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Perkins is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

On June 18, investigators obtained a search warrant for Johnson and her Dodge Durango.

On June 23, officers located the vehicle near Payne and Magnolia avenues in St. Paul. Court documents state officers observed Johnson and a man walking toward the Durango before stopping them.

According to the complaint, Johnson told officers she had fentanyl in her purse when asked. During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly recovered a black bag containing suspected methamphetamine on the front passenger-side floorboard, a metal tin containing suspected methamphetamine beneath the driver's seat, and additional suspected controlled substances in the vehicle's trunk.

After being advised of her constitutional rights, Johnson agreed to speak with investigators, according to the complaint. Prosecutors allege Johnson admitted she sells drugs to support her drug habit. She reportedly claimed the methamphetamine found in the Durango belonged to the man she was with and denied knowing about the suspected drugs located in the trunk. Investigators wrote in the complaint that they did not believe those statements were truthful.

Laboratory testing allegedly determined the powder recovered from the trunk contained fentanyl and weighed approximately 195.4 grams. Another 7.43 grams of suspected fentanyl was allegedly recovered from Johnson's purse, according to the complaint.

Authorities also allege three bags recovered from the vehicle contained a combined 30.47 grams of methamphetamine, while two additional bags found inside a metal tin weighed 5.03 grams and also tested positive for methamphetamine.

The complaint further states surveillance video from Johnson's apartment showed the metal tin containing methamphetamine protruding from her purse before the arrest.

Court records also indicate Johnson has three prior felony convictions involving two motor vehicle theft cases and one receiving stolen property case involving a motor vehicle.

The charges remain allegations, and Johnson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

TWIN CITIES, MINNESOTA - Health officials are urging residents across the Twin Cities metro to take precautions against mosquito bites after the first mosquito samples of 2026 tested positive for West Nile virus in Dakota, Hennepin, and Ramsey counties.

The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD) announced that mosquitoes collected from one location in Dakota County, one location in Hennepin County, and two locations in Ramsey County tested positive for West Nile virus. The mosquito samples were collected on June 17, 2026, and analyzed by MMCD Vector Ecologist Dr. Jordan Mandli using the Rapid Analyte Measurement Platform (RAMP) testing method.

According to MMCD, these are the first confirmed West Nile virus-positive mosquito samples of the 2026 season and are appearing around the same time the virus typically begins circulating each summer.

Record-Breaking 2025 Season Raises Concern

The detection comes after Minnesota experienced its worst recorded year for West Nile virus in 2025, with more than 120 human cases reported statewide, including approximately 50 cases in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Health officials say one factor contributing to last year's surge was an unusually large population of Culex tarsalis, the mosquito species considered the most efficient at transmitting West Nile virus to humans.

So far this year, MMCD says Culex tarsalis populations remain significantly lower than at this point in 2025, largely due to below-average rainfall, which has reduced ideal mosquito breeding habitat.

Even so, officials caution that the virus is now present and residents should begin taking preventative measures.

Additional Mosquito Surveillance Underway

MMCD says it is taking a proactive approach by increasing mosquito surveillance throughout the metro area and evaluating whether additional mosquito control treatments are warranted in locations where virus activity appears elevated.

The agency works closely with the Minnesota Department of Health to monitor West Nile virus activity in mosquitoes, birds, horses, other animals, and humans, and to implement mosquito control measures designed to reduce the risk of transmission.

MMCD provides mosquito control services throughout the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area.

How West Nile Virus Spreads

West Nile virus is the most common mosquito-borne disease in Minnesota. The virus naturally cycles between birds and mosquitoes. Mosquitoes become infected after feeding on infected birds and can then spread the virus to humans and animals through subsequent bites.

Humans and other mammals are considered "dead-end hosts," meaning they do not carry enough virus in their bloodstream to infect additional mosquitoes, preventing further transmission.

The mosquito species most commonly associated with transmitting the virus in Minnesota include:

Culex pipiens

Culex restuans

Culex tarsalis

Most Infections Cause No Symptoms

Health officials note that infection with the West Nile virus is relatively uncommon.
ORIGINAL STORY - EAGAN, MN: A fire at the long-vacant Metcalf Middle School on the Burnsville-Eagan border drew a massive response from multiple fire departments and remains under investigation after three individuals were detained at the scene. Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2026, for reports of smoke coming from the rotunda and a possible fire at the former Metcalf Middle School, located in the 2200 block of Diffley Road in Eagan.

Initial responding crews from the Eagan Fire Department, Burnsville Fire Department, and Eagan Police arrived to investigate the incident at the vacant school, which has sat unused for several years. As police and fire were investigating the possible fire and smoke, three people were seen inside the building and reportedly refused to exit. Neighbors who live across the street from the facility tell Limitless Media News that people have been breaking into the building for years, and police have been called there several times in response to the break-ins.

Early in the response, firefighters were told they would take a defensive attack on the building, as it is vacant. Fire crews did run into issues with the hydrants on the grounds being dry, so Diffley Road had to be closed to run water supplies from the nearest fire hydrants across the street.

Three Individuals Detained

While on scene, Limitless Media News captured police handcuffing three individuals from the east side of the building. At approximately 11 p.m., the Eagan Police Department confirmed to Limitless Media News that three individuals had been detained pending further investigation of the active incident. Officials were unable to confirm the age of the individuals involved.

Authorities have not yet announced whether the three individuals were formally arrested or whether any criminal charges are pending.

Limitless Media News has reached out to both the Eagan Police and Eagan Fire departments for additional information regarding the investigation.

Fire Escalates to Multiple Alarms

As the scene progressed, it was upgraded to a second alarm, with additional resources requested from across the south metro, bringing mutual aid from:

Apple Valley Fire Department

South Metro Fire Department

Inver Grove Heights Fire Department

M Health Fairview EMS personnel also responded to assist at the scene.

By approximately midnight, numerous fire and law enforcement agencies remained on scene as firefighters continued working to investigate and extinguish the fire. The response appeared to grow again shortly afterward, with the incident reportedly reaching a third alarm, prompting additional mutual aid from the Richfield Fire Department.

Firefighters continued working to extinguish and ventilate the structure for several hours overnight. By approximately 4 a.m., Eagan fire crews remained at the property while contractors boarded up portions of the building. By that time, all mutual aid departments had been released from the scene.

Published: June 24th, 2026

WEST SAINT PAUL MN:

A St. Paul man is facing a felony charge after prosecutors allege he used a stolen company credit card to make nearly $1,600 in unauthorized purchases after the card was allegedly stolen from a Good Samaritan who had stopped to help a motorist whose vehicle was stuck in a snowbank.

Justin Timothy Pfaff, 33, has been charged in Dakota County District Court with one count of felony financial transaction card fraud (use without consent). The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 if convicted.

According to the criminal complaint, the investigation began in February 2026 after the West St. Paul Police Department was notified that a stolen credit card had been used to make five unauthorized purchases at a hardware store on Robert Street.

Investigators learned the card belonged to a company employee whose backpack, containing his wallet, was allegedly stolen from his vehicle on Dec. 29, 2025. According to the complaint, the employee had pulled over to assist another motorist whose vehicle had become stuck in a snowbank when someone stole the backpack from his vehicle. The wallet contained several company-issued credit cards belonging to the employee's company.

According to the complaint, neither the employee nor the company authorized the transactions, which occurred on Jan. 28 and Jan. 30, 2026. Prosecutors allege the purchases totaled $1,586.92 and included merchandise as well as several gift cards.

The complaint lists the alleged unauthorized transactions as:

$33.29 for merchandise.

$415.90 for merchandise and two gift cards.

$6.17 for merchandise.

$569.66 for merchandise and two gift cards.

$651.90 for merchandise and three gift cards.

Asset protection employees at the hardware store reportedly provided surveillance footage showing the suspect making the purchases. According to the complaint, investigators compared the footage with a recent booking photograph of Pfaff and positively identified him as the individual completing the unauthorized transactions.

Investigators also attempted to contact Pfaff for a statement but were unable to locate him, according to the complaint.

The allegations against Pfaff are contained in a criminal complaint. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

WEST ST PAUL, MINNESOTA—A Twin Cities man accused of selling large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl to undercover investigators in Dakota and Hennepin counties has been sentenced to four years in prison after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors earlier this year.

According to Dakota County court records, Ernesto Campos Gonzalez, 52, pleaded guilty on April 27, 2026, to a first-degree controlled substance crime involving the sale of methamphetamine. On June 24, Dakota County District Court Judge Stacey E. Sorensen Green sentenced Gonzalez to 48 months in prison, a sentence that represents a downward departure from Minnesota's sentencing guidelines. Gonzalez was also awarded 261 days of jail credit for time already served while the case was pending.

The sentence concludes a case that stemmed from a Dakota County Drug Task Force investigation into alleged drug trafficking activity occurring across multiple Twin Cities communities during the summer of 2025.

Original Story: Richfield and West St. Paul Sting: Man Charged After Allegedly Selling Over 500 Grams of Meth and Fentanyl

Undercover Drug Purchases

According to the original criminal complaint, investigators with the Dakota County Drug Task Force conducted two undercover drug purchases involving Gonzalez. The first transaction occurred on July 24, 2025, near East 73rd Street and Elliot Avenue in Richfield. During that controlled buy, an undercover officer allegedly purchased approximately 55.74 grams of fentanyl from Gonzalez.

Less than a week later, on July 30, 2025, investigators arranged a second transaction near Stryker Avenue and Bernard Avenue in West St. Paul. Authorities alleged Gonzalez sold approximately 450.54 grams of methamphetamine to an undercover officer during that operation.

Because the transactions occurred within 90 days and involved multiple counties, prosecutors were permitted under Minnesota law to aggregate the sales into a single prosecution in Dakota County.

Guilty Plea Reached in April

Court records show Gonzalez entered a guilty plea on April 27, 2026.

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed one first-degree controlled substance charge. Gonzalez instead pleaded guilty to a first-degree controlled substance offense involving the sale of cocaine or methamphetamine during a 90-day period. The conviction carries a statutory maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine.

The sentencing order filed June 24 shows the dismissed charge involved a first-degree controlled substance crime related to the sale of cocaine or methamphetamine involving more than 100 grams, while Gonzalez was convicted on the amended first-degree sale charge tied to the July 2025 investigation.

Judge Grants Downward Departure

While first-degree controlled substance crimes often result in substantially longer prison terms, the court approved a downward durational departure from Minnesota's sentencing guidelines and imposed a 48-month prison sentence.

A departure report filed with the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission indicates the court cited several mitigating factors in support of the reduced sentence, including that Gonzalez played a minor or passive role in the offense, accepted responsibility, and showed remorse. The report also notes that the sentence was imposed pursuant to a plea agreement.

The departure report specifically classified the sentence as a "Mitigated/Downward Prison Duration" departure, meaning the prison term imposed was shorter than the presumptive guideline sentence.

Sentence and Release

Under the sentencing order, Gonzalez was committed to the custody of the Minnesota Commissioner of Corrections and ordered to serve his sentence at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.

As with most Minnesota prison sentences, Gonzalez will generally serve approximately two-thirds of the sentence in custody and may serve the remaining portion on supervised release, provided he complies with correctional requirements.

Original Allegations

When charges were first filed in October 2025, prosecutors requested substantial bail and argued that Gonzalez posed a significant flight risk. Prosecutors cited the large quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine involved in the investigation and alleged that Gonzalez had connections to a Mexico-based drug trafficking organization.

Court records from the initial proceedings also indicated that prosecutors expressed concern that Gonzalez could leave the country if released from custody pending trial.

With the June 24, 2026 sentencing, the criminal case against Gonzalez has now been resolved.

Published: June 24, 2026.

APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA - Residents visiting Alimagnet Park may notice temporary closures in a portion of the park as the City of Apple Valley continues work on a major ecological restoration project to improve native habitat and remove invasive species.

City officials announced on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, that a contractor will apply herbicide within the buckthorn removal project area over the next 1 to 2 days. The treatment is part of a larger, multi-year restoration effort currently underway in a 20.5-acre section of Alimagnet Park. Warning signs will be posted at all entrances to the treatment area while spraying is underway. Residents are asked to avoid the area and keep pets out of the treatment zone until signs are removed. The signs will remain in place for 24 hours after spraying is complete, allowing time for the herbicide to fully dry before the area reopens to the public.

The herbicide application is one component of a restoration project funded through a $262,009 grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources' Conservation Partners Legacy Grant Program. The project, which began earlier this year, is designed to restore native oak savanna and prairie habitat by removing invasive species, particularly buckthorn, which has spread throughout portions of the park and displaced native vegetation.

Why Are Herbicides Being Used?

According to the Alimagnet Park Natural Resources Management Plan, restoring native plant communities often requires targeted herbicide use because many invasive species cannot be effectively controlled through mowing, hand-pulling, controlled burns or other mechanical methods alone.

The plan states that while some invasive plants can be managed without chemicals, targeted herbicide treatments are often the most effective way to prevent aggressive species such as buckthorn from returning after removal. In many cases, restoration professionals use a combination of mechanical removal and carefully applied herbicides to achieve long-term restoration goals.

According to the management plan, herbicide use is minimized whenever possible through an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach. When herbicides are necessary, licensed applicators use products with the lowest toxicity needed to achieve restoration objectives and apply them at the lowest effective concentration while following manufacturer guidelines and safety requirements.

The management plan also notes that herbicide use in ecological restoration projects is significantly lower than in agricultural settings. Applications are often highly targeted, focusing on individual plants, cut stumps, or small infestations rather than broad-scale spraying. Restoration professionals generally consider widespread herbicide application a last resort and instead prioritize precise application methods that reduce drift and environmental impacts.

Long-Term Restoration Effort

Heavy equipment removals began in February following initial hand-clearing efforts. City officials say the area was once a healthy ecosystem of native oak trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and prairie grasses, but decades of invasive growth and changes to natural ecological processes have degraded the habitat.

The restoration effort will continue through 2027 and includes ongoing invasive species management, additional herbicide treatments, and the seeding of native grasses and wildflowers. Once completed, the project is expected to improve biodiversity, strengthen wildlife habitat, support pollinators, and create a more resilient natural area for future generations.

City officials thanked residents for their patience and cooperation as work continues to restore one of Apple Valley's most significant natural spaces.

Heavy Rain and Gusty Winds Prompt Weather Alerts

As storms developed Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued several Special Weather Statements warning of locally heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, penny-sized hail, and wind gusts capable of producing minor damage.

Reports from across the metro indicated numerous instances of downed tree limbs and isolated power outages. Emergency dispatch traffic also included calls for wires down and storm-related hazards in several communities.

While widespread flooding was not reported, some locations experienced brief ponding on roads during the heaviest downpours.

Lightning Strikes Reported in South Metro

The storms also produced several cloud-to-ground lightning strikes across the southern Twin Cities suburbs. In Apple Valley, emergency crews responded shortly after 4:00 p.m. to a report of a tree struck by lightning near Guild Avenue and 134th Street West. Firefighters were dispatched to investigate after reports of a tree being directly hit during the storm.

Just minutes later, at approximately 4:10 p.m., Apple Valley Fire and Police were called to the area of Garden View Drive and 136th Court for reports of an electrical fire. Initial reports indicated that a telephone pole may have been on fire. A second call reporting an electrical fire came in shortly afterward. Following an investigation, responders determined the incidents were likely related to the same event and may have been connected to a transformer failure caused by the storm.

As crews investigated the reports, Garden View Drive was temporarily closed to allow emergency personnel to safely assess the situation and ensure there were no ongoing hazards.

After several days of relatively mild temperatures and periodic rounds of rain, a strong ridge of high pressure is forecast to build over the central United States, allowing heat and humidity to surge northward into Minnesota.

Current forecasts indicate temperatures could climb into the mid to upper 90s beginning Sunday and continuing into next week, while dew points rise into the 70s, creating potentially oppressive humidity levels across the region. If the forecast holds, the combination of heat and humidity could produce dangerous heat index values exceeding 100 degrees, especially on Monday, and may result in the hottest conditions the Twin Cities metro has experienced so far in 2026.

While several days remain before the peak of the anticipated heat, confidence is growing that Minnesota will transition from the recent cooler and wetter weather pattern to one dominated by summer heat and humidity.

Limitless Media will publish a more in-depth weather outlook later today, examining the potential duration of the heat, expected heat index values, overnight temperatures, and what residents can do to stay safe if the forecast conditions materialize.

Written by: Will Wight

Published: June 23rd, 2026

SOUTH SAINT PAUL: An Oakdale man is facing felony and gross misdemeanor charges after prosecutors allege he refused to provide a blood or urine sample and drove despite having a license canceled as inimical to public safety following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 52 in South St. Paul, according to a criminal complaint filed in Dakota County.

According to the complaint, Marcus Deshun Davis, 44, of Oakdale, is charged with one count of first-degree driving while impaired (refusal to submit to a blood or urine test following a prior felony DWI conviction) and one count of driving after cancellation inimical to public safety. The charges stem from an incident on June 19, 2026.

According to the complaint, Minnesota State Patrol troopers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 52 near Butler Avenue after a caller reported seeing a vehicle swerving and unable to maintain its lane before striking a guardrail.

When troopers arrived, they allegedly found significant damage to both the guardrail and the vehicle, which had come to rest facing oncoming traffic. Davis, identified as the driver and sole occupant, was reportedly suffering from lacerations and appeared confused and delirious. He was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

The complaint states troopers learned Davis' driver's license had been canceled as inimical to public safety.

Troopers also observed what the complaint describes as several signs of impairment, including bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Davis. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired.

According to the complaint, Minnesota State Patrol troopers obtained a search warrant authorizing the collection of a blood or urine sample and served it on Davis within two hours of his driving conduct. Prosecutors allege Davis refused to provide either sample.

The complaint further states Davis was previously convicted of felony first-degree DWI in Ramsey County in August 2025, resulting in the current first-degree DWI refusal charge.

If convicted, Davis faces a statutory sentence of three to seven years in prison and fines ranging from $4,200 to $14,000 on the felony charge. The gross misdemeanor charge carries a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $3,000.

A criminal complaint contains only allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
