A man with a lengthy criminal history has been charged in connection with the 1996 kidnapping and death of a young girl in Bowling Green, Kentucky, nearly 30 years after the crime, according to a federal criminal complaint filed Feb. 26.

Court documents read that Robert Scott Froberg faces one count of kidnapping resulting in death under federal law. The charge stems from the abduction and killing of a child, whose body was found in the woods in White House, Tennessee, on Oct. 20, 1996.

According to an affidavit filed by FBI Special Agent Renee S. Chouinard, Froberg admitted to kidnapping the child, strangling her, and disposing of her body after investigators confronted him with DNA evidence linking him to the crime.

Court documents state that Froberg stole a maroon Chevrolet van from behind a residence on Huffman Avenue in Dayton, Ohio, on July 23, 1996. The van bore Ohio license plate NM80UZ.

On July 24, 1996, Froberg exited I-65 in Bowling Green to obtain marijuana, according to the affidavit. He then went to the Colony Apartments, where he saw the child.

A witness, according to court documents, saw the kidnapping take place. She described the van as a burgundy Chevrolet van with a license plate containing the letters "MN." She described the suspect as a white male in his 20s with shoulder-length brown hair, thin build, tanned complexion, wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt. A police artist produced a sketch of the suspect based on her description.

According to the affidavit, Froberg admitted to snatching the child and throwing her into the stolen van. He told investigators she was crying and screaming as he sped out of Bowling Green. He said he lied to her, telling her he was taking her to her father in an attempt to calm her.

Froberg told investigators he exited I-65 at White House, Tennessee, and pulled over at a barn. He admitted to placing his hand over the child's mouth, then covering her mouth with a handkerchief and pulling on it with both hands until he strangled her, causing her death, according to court documents.

He then stripped off her clothes, fearing they contained DNA evidence, and disposed of them in a dumpster. He discarded her naked body in the woods near the barn, according to the affidavit.

Froberg then cleaned the van and abandoned it at a 76 truck stop in Williamson County, Tennessee, before traveling to Huntsville, Alabama. Law enforcement located the van at that truck stop on July 26, 1996, according to court documents.

The case went cold for decades until advances in forensic technology provided a new lead. The FBI extracted a DNA profile from a hair found in vacuum sweepings taken from the front and back floorboard of the maroon van. The hair had been preserved on glass microscope slides.

According to court documents, that DNA profile was searched through the Combined DNA Index System, known as CODIS, a national database that stores DNA profiles for comparison purposes. CODIS returned a DNA association with Froberg.

Court documents detail a lengthy criminal history for Froberg prior to the 1996 kidnapping:

On or about Dec. 27, 1988, Froberg committed an armed robbery in Montgomery, Alabama, and was sentenced to a lengthy prison term. He was also found in possession of paperwork about how to hotwire cars.

On or about April 3, 1996, Froberg escaped from a prison work detail in Alabama. He fled Alabama in a stolen car and ended up in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, where he robbed an elderly woman and stole her 1986 Oldsmobile.

On or about May 20, 1996, Froberg was found hiding in a children's tree house in a residential area near Dayton, Ohio. A 7-year-old child encountered Froberg in the tree house and told his mother, who called police. Froberg fled but was apprehended a short distance away.

Froberg was taken to the Northumberland County Jail. On July 16, 1996 just over a week before the kidnapping he escaped from the jail by climbing a rain spout to the roof and using a cable to climb down, court documents read. He stole a prison employee's bicycle to complete his escape.

Following the CODIS match, the FBI and the Bowling Green Police Department began investigating Froberg. According to court documents, investigators learned that Froberg had an association with a now-deceased Alabama Department of Corrections nurse who lived in Huntsville, Alabama, and who had provided him money and other assistance while he was serving his sentence for armed robbery.

A Bowling Green Police Department detective and Special Agent Chouinard traveled to Montgomery, Alabama, to interview Froberg. With the assistance of the Alabama Department of Corrections, Froberg was transported to the FBI office in Montgomery on Feb. 24, according to court documents.

Froberg waived his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with investigators. During that interview, he admitted to the kidnapping and killing, the documents read.

The criminal complaint was filed Feb. 26, in the Western District of Kentucky. U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Brennenstuhl signed the complaint.

LEX 18 reached out to the University of Kentucky Spokesperson Jay Blanton who said that Laken Snelling, the woman charged with abuse of a corpse in connection to her infant's death, has withdrawn from school.

Blanton added that as result Snelling is "no longer on the stunt team as well."

Further, LEX 18 obtained records that read that the person who called 911 stated that the body found in the closet was "cold to the touch."

On Sept. 26, LEX 18 in court reported that Snelling waived her right to a preliminary hearing and the case is now headed to a grand jury.

The Fayette County Coroner listed the manner of death for the infant found in a closet in Lexington as "currently undetermined."

Notably, the coroner's report read that "extensive microscopic analyses are essential to determine the cause and manner of death."

"This death effects many lives in our neighboring state of Tennessee and as well as those in the commonwealth. We are currently conducting a thorough and methodical death investigation to ensure all facts are carefully considered," the report read.

UPDATE: Sept. 2 at 12 p.m.

A court document revealed that 21-year-old UK student Laken Snelling, who was arrested in connection to the death of an infant, posted a $100,000 bond in court on Tuesday and is now on "home incarceration with no ankle monitor."

Snelling entered the plea standing next to attorney Brandon Marshall during the 1 p.m. hearing in downtown Lexington.

The document noted that Snelling is "to live with parents" at their home in Tennessee. Further, Snelling reportedly entered a not guilty plea and is scheduled for a court appearance on Sept. 26.

New details have been released in the infant's death and the arrest of 21-year-old Laken Snelling, who is charged with several crimes in connection, according to Lexington police.

According to an arrest citation for Snelling, officers were dispatched to her home on Aug. 27 for "a deceased infant being located inside of a closet."

The citation details that the "infant was located wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag."

According to the citation, after being Mirandized, Snelling was interviewed by officers and "admitted to giving birth."

Further, according to the citation, Snelling "admitted to concealing the birth by cleaning any evidence, placing all cleaning items used inside of a black trash bag, including the infant, who was wrapped in a towel."

A 21-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the death of an infant that occurred on Park Avenue on Wednesday, according to the Lexington Police Department.

Police report that Laken Snelling was arrested Saturday and charged with "Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Concealing the Birth of an Infant." Snelling is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center. Police say that Snelling is the infant's mother.

According to Lexington Police, officers were dispatched for an unresponsive infant at a home in the 400 block of Park Avenue on Wednesday at approximately 10:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found an infant who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A release from the LPD says that the Fayette County Coroner's Office will release the infant's cause of death.

The University of Kentucky provided the following comment: "We can confirm that she has been a member of the STUNT team for the last three seasons. All other questions should be directed to the Lexington Police."

The man accused of killing seven people and injuring dozens more at a 2022 Independence Day parade in a Chicago suburb rejected a deal requiring him to plead guilty to seven charges of murder Wednesday in a stunning courtroom scene just days before the second anniversary of the attack.

Appearing in a Lake County courtroom, Robert E. Crimo III, 23, refused to accept the agreement that prosecutors said would mean a life sentence for him in the Highland Park shooting.

Prosecutor Ben Dillon told Judge Victoria Rossetti that attorneys had discussed an agreement requiring Crimo to plead guilty to seven counts of first-degree murder and 48 counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. He would be imprisoned for life and ineligible for release on the murder counts.

As family members of people killed and others wounded in the mass shooting watched, Rossetti asked Crimo if the agreement described was what he discussed with his attorneys. Crimo remained silent before looking back at his parents seated in a front-row bench.

Defense attorneys Greg Ticsay and Anton Trizna briefly spoke with Crimo at the defense table before Rossetti suggested they go back into a private room. When they returned, the judge asked Crimo whether he wanted to go forward.

No, he responded.

Many in the full courtroom had hoped to give statements in court Wednesday and were left baffled by the abrupt change. One man held up a middle finger to Crimos parents as they exited the courtroom ahead of a private meeting that prosecutors held with victims.

Prosecutors initially charged Crimo with 21 counts of first-degree murder three counts for each person killed as well as 48 counts of attempted murder and 48 counts of aggravated battery. He is scheduled for trial in February.

Dozens of people were wounded in the 2022 shooting. The wounded ranged in age from their 80s down to an 8-year-old boy who was left partially paralyzed.

Witnesses described initial confusion as the shots began, followed by panic as families fled the parade route through downtown Highland Park, leaving behind chairs, bicycles and strollers in the rush to find safety inside nearby businesses or homes.

The criminal case has proceeded slowly for months. At one point, Crimo insisted he wanted to fire his public defenders and represent himself. He abruptly reversed that decision weeks later.

Wednesdays hearing was announced last week, though he was not scheduled to return to court until August. Crimo sat in a wheelchair during Wednesday's hearing, a change from prior appearances where he walked into and out of the room with deputies.

Christopher Covelli, deputy chief with the Lake County Sheriffs Office, said Crimo informed our correctional staff this morning that he was nervous and unsure if hed be able to walk in and out of the courtroom. For that reason, he was placed in a wheelchair for his movements.

Authorities have said the accused gunman confessed to police in the days after he opened fire from a rooftop in Highland Park, an affluent suburb that is home to about 30,000 people near the Lake Michigan shore. They said he initially fled to the Madison, Wisconsin, area and contemplated a second shooting at a parade there but returned to Chicagos northern suburbs.

Those killed in the attack were Katherine Goldstein, 64; Jacquelyn Sundheim, 63; Stephen Straus, 88; Nicolas Toledo-Zaragoza, 78; and Eduardo Uvaldo, 69, and married couple Kevin McCarthy, 37, and Irina McCarthy, 35.

The McCarthys 2-year-old son was found alone at the scene and eventually reunited with extended family members.

All of them were from the Highland Park area except for Toledo-Zaragoza, who was visiting family in the city from Morelos, Mexico.

The violence focused attention on Highland Parks 2013 ban on semi-automatic weapons and large-capacity magazines. Illinois officials have long contended that legal and illegal weapons are easily purchased in surrounding states, hampering even the toughest local laws effectiveness.

Authorities said that Crimo, a resident of nearby Highwood, legally purchased the rifle. But he first applied for a state gun license in 2019 when he was 19, too young to apply independently in Illinois.

His father sponsored the application, though police reports show that months earlier a relative reported to police that Crimo III had threatened to kill everyone and had made several threats to kill himself.

Prosecutors initially charged the father, Robert Crimo Jr., with seven felony counts of reckless conduct and he pleaded guilty in November to seven misdemeanor counts of reckless conduct. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail and released early for good behavior.

Crimo's father declined to speak with reporters following Wednesday's hearing.

Edward Kang and the victim had never met in person before the attack early Sunday, but they were acquainted through an online video game called ArcheAge, which Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said during a press conference allows players to fight and kill each other's characters.

Leeper said it's unclear what exactly occurred in the fantasy game to prompt Kang to jump on a flight to the victim's Florida home Thursday evening, but the suspect told authorities after his arrest that the victim "is a bad person online."

"Some things make you say, hmm. Some things you just can't make up," Leeper said during the press conference after calling the case a "weird one." "There are some things that make you say, 'What in the world was he thinking?' And there are some things that make you say, 'You're not going to believe this.' Well, this case makes you say all four of those."

After telling his family he was leaving New Jersey to meet a friend he met through an online video game years ago, Kang landed in Jacksonville from Newark and took an Uber to his hotel in Florida's Fernandina Beach, arriving there at around 2 a.m. June 21. He later went to an Ace Hardware, where he purchased a hammer and a flashlight, receipts found in his hotel room showed, per Leeper.

Then, around 48 hours after his arrival, Kang went to the victim's Fernandina Beach residence and entered through an unlocked door. The unknowing victim had been playing video games in his room when he got up to use the restroom, opened the door and found Kang standing with a hammer raised in the air in an "anticipated strike position" while wearing all black, gloves and a mask, Leeper said.

The victim's stepfather said he was awakened by screams for help and entered his stepson's room to find him struggling on the ground with Kang, still armed with the hammer. The victim and his stepfather were able to disarm and restrain Kang until deputies arrived at around 2 a.m. Sunday, when they discovered significant amounts of blood in the home's entryway and in the victim's bedroom, Leeper said.

The sheriff said both gamers, who are around the same age, were taken to a local hospital and have both been released  Kang into custody and booked into Nassau County Jail. The victim had severe head wounds, but they appeared to be non-life-threatening, Leeper said.

The sheriff said his office believes Kang left New Jersey with the intent to kill the victim and that the suspect's charges of attempted second-degree murder and armed burglary may be upgraded in the future as the investigation continues.

After his arrest, Leeper said Kang asked a deputy how much jail time a person gets for breaking and entering and assault.

"I would say, Mr. Kang, it's going to be a long time before you play video games again," Leeper said during the press conference.

And that's particularly true for ArcheAge. According to an April announcement on its website, the Korean massively multiplayer online role-playing game, also known as an MMORPG, will shut down in Europe and North America on June 27 due to a decline in active players.

"This incident serves a stark reminder of the potential real-world consequences of online interactions," Leeper said during the press conference. "We urge the public to exercise caution, report any suspicious online behavior to the authorities and always ensure that their homes are securely locked."

The fate of a Massachusetts woman accused of killing her police officer boyfriend now rests with a jury.

Lawyers in the high-profile Karen Read murder trial presented their closing arguments Tuesday morning.

Prosecutors allege Read killed Boston police officer John OKeefe. He was found dead in the snow outside the home of a fellow officer in January 2022.

Prosecutors accuse Read of hitting OKeefe with her car while dropping him off at a party at the residence and leaving him to die.

During the trial, the jury heard profanity-laced voicemails that Read left on OKeefes phone, calling him a loser in the minutes and hours after she allegedly hit him with her vehicle.

Read's attorneys allege a sloppy investigation and a cover-up. They claim someone inside the home killed OKeefe and left him for dead after a night of heavy drinking.

Read is charged with second-degree murder, motor vehicle manslaughter while driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of a collision causing injury or death. She is facing life in prison if convicted.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will plead guilty to a felony charge in a deal with the U.S. Justice Department that will resolve a long-running legal saga that spanned multiple continents and centered on the publication of a trove of classified documents, according to court papers filed late Monday.

Assange is scheduled to appear in the federal court in the Mariana Islands, a U.S. commonwealth in the Western Pacific, to plead guilty to an Espionage Act charge of conspiring to unlawfully obtain and disseminate classified national defense information, the Justice Department said in a letter filed in court.

The guilty plea, which must be approved by a judge, brings an abrupt conclusion to a criminal case of international intrigue and to the U.S. government's yearslong pursuit of a publisher whose hugely popular secret-sharing website made him a cause clbre among many press freedom advocates who said he acted as a journalist to expose U.S. military wrongdoing. Investigators, by contrast, have repeatedly asserted that his actions broke laws meant to protect sensitive information and in so doing put the country's national security at risk.

He is expected to return to Australia after his plea and sentencing, which is scheduled for Wednesday morning, local time in Saipan, the largest island in the Mariana Islands. The hearing is taking place there because of Assanges opposition to traveling to the continental U.S. and the courts proximity to Australia.

Thirteen people have been injured after a mass shooting at a party in Alabama over the weekend.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning in the citys capital of Montgomery.

The Montgomery Police Department said it received a 911 call about the incident at about 1:48 a.m.

It took officers seven minutes to arrive on scene from the time of the call. Upon arrival, police found two gunshot victims with non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to a local hospital.

Montgomery police said an additional 11 people were hurt and traveled to medical facilities in personal vehicles. Some of the injured were hit by gunfire and others were hurt amid the chaos as people fled the scene.

A total of nine people suffered gunshot wounds, three were hit by vehicles as they fled the scene, and one was hit by flying glass.

Police found more than 350 shell casings at the scene.

MPDs acting chief of police John Hall said that the party was unpermitted. It happened at a personal property and spilled out onto other properties along the street.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed spoke out in a press conference, calling the incident infuriating and a senseless act.

These events cannot continue to happen. We will not stand for it. We will not be satisfied until we are doing everything at the local, state, and federal level to find those who are part of these continued incidents, said the mayor.

Reed said while law enforcement and other agencies are doing their part, it is also on members of the community to speak up.

Next time you dont know it if itll be you, or someone you love, or someone you know, thatll be a victim of gun violence, Reed said, encouraging those with information to come forward.

Police have not yet identified any suspects in the case but are continuing to gather information.

In a press conference, special agent Jennifer Conway with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms alluded to the fact that police may know who is responsible but will not stop until they have undeniable evidence to convict.

An investigation remains ongoing.

A fourth person who was injured when a man opened fire at an Arkansas grocery store Friday morning has died, according to Arkansas State Police.

Officials have identified the four individuals killed as 23-year-old Callie Weems, 50-year-old Roy Sturgis, 62-year-old Shirley Taylor and 81-year-old Ellen Shrum.

Five women and two men were also wounded in the shooting at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, ranging in age from 20 to 65. Several remain hospitalized with one woman in critical condition, State Police said.

Two police officers were injured in a shootout with the suspect. Officials said Fordyce Police Officer James Johnson, 31, was released from a Little Rock hospital and Stuttgart Police Officer John Hudson, 24, received minor injuries.

The suspect, named as Travis Eugene Posey, 44, of New Edinburg, was treated for injuries from the shootout with police before being transported to Ouachita County Detention Center. Posey has been charged with four counts of capital murder, and officials said other charges are pending.

Police have not identified a specific motive in the shooting.

It appears that it was a completely random, senseless act, said Mike Hagar, director of the Arkansas State Police, during a Sunday news conference.

A man who bludgeoned Nancy Pelosis husband with a hammer and was sentenced to 30 years in federal court was also convicted Friday of aggravated kidnapping by a state court, which could put him behind bars for life.

A federal judge last month sentenced David DePape to 30 years in federal prison for the 2022 attack against Paul Pelosi.

A San Francisco jury on Friday found DePape also guilty of first-degree burglary, false imprisonment of an elder, threatening a family member of a public official, dissuading a witness to the charges and aggravated kidnapping.

DePapes public defender Adam Lipson told the jury during closing arguments that DePape was guilty of three of the charges but that prosecutors had not presented evidence to convict him of threatening a family member of a public official and aggravated kidnapping.

Prosecutors added those two charges in late May as DePapes federal trial was wrapping up.

A federal jury convicted DePape of assaulting a federal officials family member and attempting to kidnap a federal official. On May 28, he was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison during an unusual resentencing hearing that resulted from judicial error. DePape will likely be deported back to Canada after he completes his punishment.

Lipson earlier argued that the state trial represents double jeopardy following the federal conviction. Even though the criminal counts are not the same, the two cases stem from the same act, he told the judge.

San Francisco Superior Court Judge Harry Dorfman agreed and dismissed the state charges of attempted murder, elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon. Another judge upheld the decision on appeal.

Lipson focused his closing arguments on explaining to the jury that prosecutors did not prove DePape kidnapped Paul Pelosi, who was 82 at the time, with the intent to exact from another person money or something valuable, which is integral to the charge.

Prosecutors said the valuable thing DePape wanted from the kidnapping was to create a video of Nancy Pelosi confessing to crimes he believed she had committed, prosecutors said.

Lipson argued the video didnt exist and if it did, it wouldnt have had any value.

When he broke into the Pelosis home his intent was to confront and potentially hurt and assault Nancy Pelosi. That was his intent at that time, that has nothing to do with Mr. Pelosi, he said.

In her rebuttal, Assistant District Attorney Phoebe Maffei pointed out DePape told a detective and testified in federal court that he planned to get a video of Nancy Pelosi confessing to what he believed to be crimes and post it on the internet.

There is inherent value in a video of the Speaker of the House confessing to crimes in her own home, Maffei said.

The attack on Paul Pelosi was captured on police body camera video just days before the 2022 midterm elections and shocked the political world. He suffered two head wounds including a skull fracture that was mended with plates and screws he will have for the rest of his life. His right arm and hand were also injured.

On Monday, Maffei told the jury DePape unleashed a reign of terror on Paul Pelosi before bludgeoning him with a hammer as part of a plan he put together over months.

The plain facts of this case are terrifying by themselves without embellishment, Maffei said. David DePape broke into the home of an 82-year-old man while he slept, entered his bedroom, held him hostage with a hammer, threatened him, threatened his wife and attempted to kill him.

DePape admitted during his federal trial testimony that he planned to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage, record his interrogation of her, and break her kneecaps if she did not admit to the lies he said she told about Russiagate, a reference to the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Lipson told the jury during closing arguments that before the attack, DePape was living an isolated, lonely life and went down the rabbit hole of propaganda and conspiracy theories.

This week the judge expelled DePapes former partner from the public gallery and the second floor of the San Francisco courthouse because the judge said she was trying to tamper with the jury.

On Monday and Tuesday, Gypsy Taub, a well-known activist in the Bay Area, handed out pieces of paper outside the courtroom with the address of a website she runs that promotes conspiracy theories. The cards were also found in a womens bathroom near the courtroom where the websites address was scrawled in marker on a wall.

You have been trying to corruptly influence one or more jury members, Dorfman said sternly before asking two bailiffs to escort Taub out of the courtroom.

DePapes federal public defender said during his federal sentencing that DePape was first exposed to extreme beliefs by Taub, who has two children with DePape.

Taub met DePape in Hawaii when he was 20 years old and she was in her 30s and pregnant, DePapes twin sister, Joanne Robinson, said in a letter to the federal judge seeking leniency.

Robinson wrote that Taub isolated DePape from his family and inflicted extreme psychological damage on her brother.

Three people were killed in a mass shooting Friday at a grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas, authorities said.

Fordyce is about 70 miles south of Little Rock, the state's capital.

Arkansas State Police said at least 10 other civilians were shot, along with two law enforcement officers who engaged the suspect.

The injuries to the civilians reportedly range from critical to non-life-threatening. The two police officers who were shot suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

Police did not immediately say whether the shooting occurred inside or outside the store.

The suspected shooter was wounded in the shootout with police, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening, and they are in custody. Police identified the suspected shooter as 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey of New Edinburg.

He's been charged with three counts of capital murder, while other charges are still pending. Police have not said anything about a possible motive.

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee-Sanders thanked first responders for their quick actions.

"I am thankful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives," she stated on X. "My prayers are with the victims and all those impacted by this horrific incident."

White House Spokesperson Jeremy M. Edwards said federal law enforcement is assisting with the investigation. White House representatives said President Joe Biden had been briefed on the situation and would continue to receive updates.

Steve Bannon, a longtime political advisor to former President Donald Trump, has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to keep him out of prison while he appeals his conviction for contempt of Congress.

A federal appeals court refused Thursday to delay Bannon's four-month prison term and ordered him to report for prison by July 1.

Bannon was convicted in 2022 of two counts of contempt of Congress: one for refusing to comply with a House subpoena over an investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, and another for not providing documents related to Trump's alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Another former Trump White House official, Peter Navarro, reported to a federal prison in Miami in March after also being sentenced to four months behind bars for contempt of Congress.

Navarro like Bannon was convicted of defying a Congressional subpoena for documents related to the House investigation into the Capitol riots, and for refusing to appear for a deposition.

His effort to appeal the case and avoid prison time was rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court.

A New Mexico judge is scheduled to consider at a Friday hearing whether to compel a movie set armorer to testify at actor Alec Baldwin's involuntary manslaughter trial for the fatal shooting nearly three years ago of a cinematographer during rehearsal for the Western movie Rust.

Prosecutors are seeking a court order for Hannah Gutierrez-Reed to testify with immunity for her against related prosecution. Gutierrez-Reed was convicted in March of involuntary manslaughter for her role in the shooting of Halyna Hutchins at a movie-set ranch.

Baldwin figured prominently at that previous trial, which highlighted gun-safety protocols and his authority as a co-producer and the lead actor on Rust.

The jury should hear all of the information Ms. Gutierrez has regarding Mr. Baldwin, both exculpatory and inculpatory, special prosecutors Mari Morrissey and Erlinda Johnson said in court filings. Counsel for both sides should be permitted to fully cross-examine Ms. Gutierrez.

Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed both oppose efforts to compel her testimony.

At a pretrial interview in May, Gutierrez-Reed exercised her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and declined to answer questions. Her attorneys say compelling her to testify, even with immunity, would virtually eliminate the possibility of a fair appeal and possible retrial. She also is fighting a separate charge of carrying a firearm into a Santa Fe bar weeks before the fatal shooting.

Also during Friday's hearing, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer is expected to weigh two defense requests to scuttle the trial on arguments that Baldwin had no reason to believe the gun could contain live ammunition and that it was heavily damaged during FBI forensic testing before it could be examined for possible modifications that might exonerate the actor.

The government took the most critical evidence in this case the firearm and destroyed it by repeatedly and pointlessly striking it with a mallet, defense attorneys said in court filings. Government agents knew that the firearm would not survive.

During the fatal rehearsal on Oct. 21, 2021, Baldwin was pointing the gun at Hutchins when it went off, killing her and wounding director Joel Souza, who survived. Baldwin says he pulled back the guns hammer but did not pull the trigger.

Prosecutors plan to present evidence at trial that they say shows the firearm could not have fired absent a pull of the trigger and was working properly before the shooting.

At Gutierrez-Reeds trial, an FBI expert testified the gun was fully functional with safety features when it arrived at an FBI laboratory. The expert said he had to strike the fully cocked gun with a mallet and break it for the gun to fire without depressing the trigger.

Baldwin has pleaded not guilty to the involuntary manslaughter charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison.

Marlowe Sommer previously rejected another Baldwin motion for dismissal, ruling that the grand jury was able to make an independent judgement on the indictment.

Last year special prosecutors dismissed an involuntary manslaughter charge against Baldwin, saying they were informed the gun might have been modified before the shooting and malfunctioned. But they pivoted after receiving a new analysis of the gun and successfully pursued a grand jury indictment.

Fifteen people were shot after an illegal "sideshow took over a peaceful Juneteenth celebration in Oakland, California, police said Thursday.

Investigators are seeking multiple shooters more than 50 shell casings were recovered at the scene following the violence Wednesday night at Lake Merritt, but no arrests had been made by Thursday afternoon.

About 20 vehicles mostly all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes arrived around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday and started a sideshow on the north side of the lake as 5,000 people attended the Juneteenth event.

Sideshows, also known as street takeovers, involve stunts like doughnuts, drifting and burnouts. Street takeovers often involve hundreds of spectators. Cars block access to an intersection, stopping traffic in all directions and making it harder for police to respond. Its become a widespread problem around the country, including Oakland and other cities across the U.S.

Oakland Police Chief Floyd Mitchell on Thursday said one person walked across the hood of a sideshow vehicle. Multiple occupants got out and attacked the person, whose injuries required them to be hospitalized.

Some of the people in the crowd also attacked police officers, Mitchell said during a news conference. A woman was taken into custody for assaulting an officer while the officer was giving first aid to a gunshot victim.

Detectives are combing social media for leads to the shooters' identities, Mitchell said.

At least one gunshot victim was in critical condition. The victims ages ranged from 20 to 30 years old. Other injuries included the loss of fingers and minor gunshot wounds.

The opportunity to celebrate with your family and friends should never be marred by gunfire, Mitchell said.

June 19, or Juneteenth, marks the day in 1865 enslaved people in Galveston, Texas found out they had been freed after the end of the Civil War, and two years after President Abraham Lincolns Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth was designated a federal holiday in 2021 and has become more universally recognized beyond Black America. Many people get the day off work or school, and there are a plethora of street festivals, fairs, concerts and other events.

In 2021, a shooting during a Juneteenth celebration at Lake Merritt left several people injured and a 22-year-old San Francisco man dead.

The ex-boyfriend of a murder victims daughter has been arrested in a 23-year-old cold case.

Eugene Teodor Gligor, now 44, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Washington, D.C., for the murder of Leslie Preer. Officers found Preer murdered inside her home on May 2, 2001, after she did not show up for work, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.

In Sept. 2022, blood evidence from the scene was submitted to a lab for analysis. On June 9, DNA evidence belonging to Gligor was collected and compared to DNA collected from the crime scene. Investigators said the analysis generated a positive match.

Gligor is charged with first-degree murder and is awaiting extradition to Maryland.

Preers daughter, Lauren Preer, told WTTG-TV that Gligor was an ex-boyfriend from her teenage years. Lauren said she and Gligor grew up in the same neighborhood and dated when she was 15.

Lauren also said she ran into Gligor last year at a restaurant, saying, Ive spoken to him. He didnt seem weird, and how you could look someone in the eye and know that you committed this crime and act like nothing happened is pretty unreal.

Musician Travis Scott was arrested and booked early Thursday morning in Miami-Dade County, Florida, according to court records.

Court records showed that Scott faces two criminal counts, one for trespassing property after warning, and another for disorderly intoxication. The court records indicated that he submitted a $150 bond.

After being booked, Scott wrote on the social media platform X "lol."

Scott has become one of music's most popular rappers, having been nominated for nine Grammy Awards. He has also drawn controversy, most notably for the Astroworld Festival crowd crush in November 2021. Scott was on stage when fans surged toward the stage, causing numerous injuries.

Ten people died as a result of the injuries.

After a two-year investigation, officials said Scott would not be criminally charged for the 2021 incident, but he could be held liable in civil court.

A plastic surgeon who is licensed to practice in several states has been arrested in Florida on charges of killing his wife while performing cosmetic procedures on her.

Dr. Benjamin Brown is charged with second-degree felony homicide and manslaughter by culpable negligence for the death of his wife, Hillary Ellington Brown. She was taken to the hospital on Nov. 21, 2023, after suffering a medical emergency at her husbands medical office, and died in the hospital a week later on Nov. 28.

The Florida Department of Health suspended Benjamins medical license in May, citing not only Hillarys death but other instances of alleged malpractice. Court TV reviewed the administrative complaint filed by the state, which details the procedure that led to Hillarys death.

Investigators said that Hillary was at her husbands office, Restore Plastic Surgery, to receive muscle plication (a procedure to strengthen muscles), liposuction on her arms, lip injections and ear adjustment procedures. On the morning of Nov. 21, Hillary allegedly prepared her own IV solution and placed it into IV bags, despite the fact that she had no medical training or license.

The complaint notes Benjamins alleged failure to properly document what medications Hillary was taking, saying she ingested a handful of multi-colored pills, which included Valium, before showing signs of sedation. After the muscle plication, Hillary allegedly assisted in her own procedure by suturing the skin back together. During this portion of the procedure, [Hillary] became restless and her feet began twitching.

Despite this, Benjamin allegedly continued doing procedures, injecting his wife with more anesthetic and continuing to do a liposuction. At that point, Hillary said her vision began to blur and she told her husband she saw orange, before having a seizure and becoming unresponsive.

After approximately 20 minutes, Benjamin began CPR and the medical assistant called 911. Hillary was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest with elevated lactic acid level and suspected lidocaine toxicity. She never regained consciousness.

The administrative complaint revealed two women had filed complaints against the doctor alleging that he had given them gluteal fat injections (also known as Brazilian Butt Lifts, or BBL) despite their explicit statements saying they did not want the procedure done. Those procedures were done in 2021 and 2022, with Hillary acting as an unlicensed assistant in at least one procedure.

Benjamin is also licensed as a medical provider in the District of Columbia, West Virginia, and Virginia, according to state records.

New video has been released of what appears to be Justin Timberlake's car moments before he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor, New York.

The traffic camera footage shows what has reportedly been identified as Timberlake's 2025 BMW SUV driving down a street in the Hamptons on Long Island. According to the Sag Harbor Police Department, Timberlake was pulled over at 12:37 a.m. Tuesday after failing to stop at a stop sign and not maintaining his lane of travel.

"Upon investigation, it was determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition," the police department said in a press release.

A police report indicated that an officer observed Timberlake with bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and he had trouble standing. Police added there was a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" emanating from his breath and that he "performed poorly" on all standardized field sobriety tests.

Timberlake, 43, reportedly told officers he had one martini and was following his friends home. He was held overnight and appeared for his morning arraignment, in which he pleaded not guilty before being released on bond.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, the 10-time Grammy Awards winner is scheduled back in court on July 26. A lawyer confirmed he does not have to appear in person.

Timberlake is currently on his "Forget Tomorrow" world tour. His next performance is scheduled for Friday at Chicago's United Center.

Buster Murdaugh, the son of disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh, has filed a lawsuit against several media companies, accusing them of defamation for documentaries they produced about his family.

Buster is the sole surviving child of Alex and Maggie Murdaugh. Alex was convicted and sentenced to two life sentences for murdering his wife and younger son, Paul, on the family's property in Moselle, South Carolina, in June 2021.

The Murdaugh family had been a prominent and powerful legal dynasty in the state's Lowcountry, prompting national attention to the murders and trial. In the wake of the verdicts, several documentaries were produced about the high-profile case.

In his lawsuit filed in Hampton County, Buster is accusing several media companies of defamation for the content of their documentaries. But the content Buster has taken issue with has nothing to do with the murders of his mother and brother, though he has maintained that he believes his father is innocent.

Rather, his lawsuit centers on the case of Stephen Smith, a 19-year-old whose body was found along a rural road on July 8, 2015. Though Smith's death was initially classified as a hit-and-run, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said that it had uncovered evidence leading them to reopen Smith's case during its investigation into the Murdaugh murders.

The lawsuit filed against companies including Warner Bros., Netflix, Gannett, and Blackfin accuses the producers, creators and broadcasters of the documentaries and series "Murdaugh Murders: Deadly Dynasty," "Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty," and "Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal" of falsely accusing him of being involved with Smith's death.

The documentaries are accused of alluding to Buster as Smith's murderer as well as insinuating that Buster and Smith had a romantic relationship.

"These statements are untrue in their entirety," the lawsuit states.

Though not named directly, Buster pointed to a "young man with red hair carrying a baseball bat" visible in the Netflix documentary series. "The Plaintiff has red hair, and it is readily ascertainable from the content of the series that the creators were depicting the Plaintiff as the murderer of Stephen Smith."

Michael DeWitt Jr. is named in the suit both as an individual and as editor of the weekly newspaper The Hampton County Guardian because of statements he made in the Netflix series, including, "We could not put the Murdaugh name in the story unless we wanted to face lawsuits. We said a prominent well-known family was rumored to be involved. Everyone knew who we were talking about. We published the story and we waited. People would come up to me in the Piggly Wiggly and pat me on the back. We're so thankful you had the courage to run the story."

The lawsuit asks for unspecified actual and punitive damages for irreparable damage to Buster's reputation and mental anguish.

The shooter who killed five people and injured 19 others at an LGBTQ+ club that was a refuge in the conservative city of Colorado Springs pleaded guilty to federal hate crime charges and was sentenced to 55 life terms in prison on Tuesday, but once again declined to apologize or say anything to the victims families.

Prosecutors nevertheless highlighted the importance of Anderson Lee Aldrich finally being forced to take responsibility for the hatred toward LGBTQ+ people that they say motivated the mass shooting. As part of the plea agreement, Aldrich repeatedly admitted on Tuesday to evidence of hatred.

The admission that these were hate crimes is important to the government, and its important to the community of Club Q, said prosecutor Alison Connaughty.

By targeting Club Q, the shooter attacked a place that was much more than a bar, Connaughty added.

Its a special gathering place for anyone who needed community and anyone who needed that safe place, she said. We met people who said This venue saved my life and I was able to feel normal again.

The 24-year-old shooter is already serving life in prison after pleading guilty to state charges in the 2022 shooting last year. Federal prosecutors focused on proving that the attack at Club Q a sanctuary for LGBTQ+ people in the mostly conservative city was premeditated and fueled by bias.

U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney, the first openly gay federal judge in Colorado, heard heart-wrenching testimony from victims before accepting the agreement, which also includes a total of 190 years on gun charges and other counts.

"You will never get out of prison, the judge said.

The shooter, appearing in an orange prison uniform with head shaved and wrists handcuffed, declined to speak at the sentencing. Defense attorney David Kraut made no explicit mention of hate or bias in his comments.

Kraut said there was no singular explanation for why Aldrich carried out the shooting, but he mentioned childhood trauma, a sometimes abusive mother, online extremism, drug use and access to guns as factors that combined to increase the risk that Anderson would engage in extreme violence.

Defense attorneys in the state case had pushed back against hate as a motivation, arguing that the shooter was drugged up on cocaine and medication at the time. In phone calls from jail with The Associated Press last year, the shooter didnt answer directly when asked whether the attack was motivated by hate, saying only, thats completely off base, and ultimately pleaded no contest to the state hate crime charges, which is short of admitting guilt.

Connaughty said investigators uncovered evidence of the shooters hate for the LGBTQ+ community that included two websites created by the shooter to post hate-related content, a target found inside the defendants house with a rainbow ring that had bullets in it and the defendants sharing of recordings of 911 calls from the 2016 killing of 49 people at the gay-friendly Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida,.

The shooter also studied other mass shootings, accumulated weapons, shared an online manifesto from a mass shooter who referred to transgenderism as a disease, and coordinated a spam email campaign against a former work supervisor who is gay, the prosecutor said.

According to other evidence prosecutors presented to support their sentencing recommendation, the shooter spent over $9,000 on weapons-related purchases from at least 56 vendors between September 2020 and the attack on Nov. 19, 2022. A hand drawn map of Club Q with an entry and exit point marked was found inside the shooter's apartment, along with a black binder of training material entitled How to handle an active shooter.

Defense attorneys in the state case said Aldrich is nonbinary, and uses they/them pronouns. But that was rejected by some of the victims as well as the district attorney who prosecuted the shooter in state court, who called it an effort to avoid hate crime charges.

They include Ashtin Gamblin, who worked the front door that night and remains in physical therapy after being shot nine times. A true member of the LGBTQ+ community would know about the discrimination and the mental health challenges they face and wouldnt attack its members in such a sanctuary, she said ahead of the hearing.

We deserve to be safe and go in public and actually survive being in public, Gamblin told the judge on Tuesday, speaking with her husband by her side, putting a supportive hand on her shoulder.

Gamblin's mother also spoke, describing how her daughter buried her face in a friend's blood in hopes of avoiding being shot, and then was taken to a hospital in an ambulance shared by the handcuffed killer. Both mother and daughter as well as other victims said they would prefer that the shooter get the death penalty.

The shooter visited the club at least eight times before the attack, including stopping by an hour and a half before the shooting, according to prosecutors. Just before midnight, the shooter returned wearing a tactical vest with ballistic plates and carrying an AR-15 style rifle and started firing immediately. The shooter killed the first person in the entryway, shot at bartenders and customers at the bar and then moved onto the dance floor, pausing to reload the rifles magazine.

The defendant was able to level everyone, Connaughty said, adding that the shooter fired 60 rounds in less than a minute. "The defendant emptied the magazine. The defendant was prepared to inflict the maximum amount of damage in the minimum amount of time.

The shooting was stopped by a Navy officer who grabbed the barrel of the suspects rifle, burning his hand, and an Army veteran who helped subdue the shooter until police arrived, authorities have said.

There had been a chance to prevent such violence: Aldrich was arrested in June 2021, accused of threatening their grandparents and vowing to become the next mass killer while stockpiling weapons, body armor and bomb-making materials. But his mother and grandparents refused to cooperate, and prosecutors failed to serve subpoenas to family members that could have kept the case alive, so the charges were eventually dismissed.

The shooter, who will be returned to state prison after the hearing, was being sentenced federally under the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which expanded federal law in 2009 to include crimes motivated by sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.

A newborn baby was found abandoned on a walking trail in Texas with her umbilical cord still attached.

The Harris County Sheriffs Office said the baby, a premature female, was found Saturday morning unclothed and wrapped in a towel adjacent to a bayou in Katy, Texas.

The baby was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

Child abuse investigators with HCSO said an unknown male dropped the newborn off at the 5400 block of Casa Martin Drive, but not much other information is known.

We dont have any leads at this time, said HCSO Sgt. Juan Garcia in a press briefing. Thats all the information we have currently, but were still looking into possible video footage regarding an alleged suspect.

Police said based on the babys condition, still found with the placenta, it had to have been freshly born that morning.

Investigators said the two people who stumbled upon the child were a blessing for finding the infant early in the day before the sweltering heat.

The two witnesses that were thankfully walking on the trail with their child and their dogs were a blessing, Garcia said. They discovered the child and immediately contacted 911, so the child wasnt out in these elements which is very hot right now for a very long time.

Though no suspects have been identified, investigators said they could face charges of abandonment and endangerment of a child.

Texas has a Safe Haven Law, also known as the Baby Moses Law, in place for such scenarios.

Under the law, babies that are 60 days or younger and unharmed and safe can be dropped off at any hospital, fire station or emergency medical services station in the state of Texas without the risk of prosecution for abandonment or neglect.

The person dropping off the infant should leave it with an employee and express that they want to leave it at a safe haven. The person may be asked about their family or medical history to ensure the baby receives proper care.

In the case of the baby left outside over the weekend, police are surveying neighbors for information and/or possible camera footage.

An investigation remains ongoing.

Pop star Justin Timberlake was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor, New York, and appeared in court on Tuesday, authorities said.

According to the Sag Harbor Police Department, Timberlake was pulled over in a 2025 BMW at 12:37 a.m. Tuesday after failing to stop at a stop sign and maintain his lane of travel.

Just before 2 a.m. on a chilly April night in Seattle, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup stopped at an electric-vehicle charging station on the edge of a shopping center parking lot.

Two men, one with a light strapped to his head, got out. A security camera recorded them pulling out bolt cutters. One man snipped several charging cables; the other loaded them into the truck. In under 2 1 /2 minutes, they were gone.

The scene that night has become part of a troubling pattern across the country: Thieves have been targeting EV charging stations, intent on stealing the cables, which contain copper wiring. The price of copper is near a record high on global markets, which means criminals stand to collect rising sums of cash from selling the material.

The stolen cables often disable entire stations, forcing EV owners on the road to search desperately for a working charger. For the owners, the predicament can be exasperating and stressful.

Broken-down chargers have emerged as the latest obstacle for U.S. automakers in their strenuous effort to convert more Americans to EVs despite widespread public anxiety about a scarcity of charging stations. About 4 in 10 U.S. adults say they believe EVs take too long to charge or dont know of any charging stations nearby.

If even finding a charging station doesn't necessarily mean finding functioning cables, it becomes one more reason for skeptical buyers to stick with traditional gasoline-fueled or hybrid vehicles, at least for now.

America's major automakers have made heavy financial bets that buyers will shift away from combustion engines and embrace EVs as the world faces the worsening consequences of climate change. Accordingly, the companies have poured billions into EVs.

Stellantis envisions 50% of its passenger cars being EVs by the end of 2030. Ford set a target of producing 2 million EVs per year by 2026 about 45% of its global sales though it has since suspended that goal. General Motors, the most ambitious of the three, has pledged to sell only EV passenger cars by the end of 2035.

Any such timetables, of course, hinge on whether the companies can convince more would-be EV buyers that a charge will always be available when they travel. The rise in cable thefts isn't likely to strengthen the automakers' case.

Two years ago, according to Electrify America, which runs the nations second-largest network of direct-current fast chargers, a cable might be cut perhaps every six months at one of its 968 charging stations, with 4,400 plugs nationwide. Through May this year, the figure reached 129 four more than in all of 2023. At one Seattle station, cables were cut six times in the past year, said Anthony Lambkin, Electrify America's vice president of operations.

"Were enabling people to get to work, to take their kids to school, get to medical appointments," Lambkin said. So to have an entire station thats offline is pretty impactful to our customers.

Two other leading EV charging companies Flo and EVgo also have reported a rise in thefts. Charging stations in the Seattle area have been a frequent target. Sites in Nevada, California, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Pennsylvania have been hit, too.

Stations run by Tesla, which operates the nation's largest fast-charging network, have been struck in Seattle, Oakland and Houston. So far this year, Seattle police have reported seven cases of cable thefts from charging stations, matching the number for all of 2023. Thieves hit Tesla stations four times this year compared with just once last year, the Seattle police said.

Vandalism of public charging infrastructure in the Seattle metro area has unfortunately been increasing in frequency," EVgo said.

The company said law enforcement officials are investigating the thefts while it tries to repair inoperable stations and considers a longer-term solution.

The problem isn't confined to urban areas. In rural Sumner, Washington, south of Seattle, thieves cut cables twice at a Puget Sound Energy charging station. The company is working with police and the property owner to protect the station.

Until a month ago, police in Houston knew of no cable thefts. Then one was stolen from a charger at a gas station. The city has now recorded eight or nine such thefts, said Sgt. Robert Carson, who leads a police metal-theft unit.

In one case, thieves swiped 18 of 19 cords at a Tesla station. That day, Carson visited the station to inspect the damage. In the first five minutes that he was there, Carson said, about 10 EVs that needed charging had to be turned away.

In very large cities like Houston, charging stations typically contain an especially large number of plugs and cables, so thefts can be particularly damaging.

They're not just taking one," Carson said. "When they're hit, they're hit pretty hard.

Roy Manuel, an Uber driver who normally recharges his Tesla at the Houston station hit by thieves, said he fears being unable to do so because of stolen cables.

If my battery was really low, Id have quite an issue with operating my vehicle, he said. If it was so low that I couldnt get to another charger, I might be in trouble. Might even need a tow truck.

The charging companies say it's become clear that the thieves are after the copper that the cables contain. In late May, copper hit a record high of nearly $5.20 a pound, a result, in part, of rising demand resulting from efforts to cut carbon emissions with EVs that use more copper wiring. The price is up about 25% from a year ago, and many analysts envision further increases.

Charging companies say there isn't actually very much copper in the cables, and what copper is there is difficult to extract. Carson estimates that criminals can get $15 to $20 per cable at a scrap yard.

"They're not making a significant amount of money, he said. They're not going to be sailing on a yacht anywhere.

Still, the more cables the thieves can steal, the more they can cash in. At $20 a cable, 20 stolen cables could fetch $400.

The problem for the charging companies is that it's much costlier to replace cables. In Minneapolis, where cables have been clipped at city-owned charging stations, it costs about $1,000 to replace just one cable, said Joe Laurin, project manager in the Department of Public Works.

The charging companies are trying to fight back. Electrify America is installing more security cameras. In Houston, police are visiting recycling centers to look for stolen metal.

But it's often hard for the scrap yards to determine conclusively whether metal came from a charging cable. Thieves often burn off the insulation and just sell strands of metal.

The Recycled Materials Association, which represents 1,700 members, is issuing scrap-theft alerts from law enforcement officials so that members can be on the lookout for suspects and stolen goods.

Because charging stations are often situated in remote corners of parking lots, Carson suggested that many more security cameras are needed.

In the meantime, Electrify America said Seattle police are trying to track down the thieves in the video. And Carson said the Houston police are pursuing leads in the Tesla theft.

We'd like to get them stopped," he said, and then let the court system do what they're supposed to do.

A United States Secret Service agent was robbed at gunpoint over the weekend in California and fired his gun during the incident, according to local and federal law enforcement agencies.

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday near a residential community in Orange County as the agent was returning from a work assignment. The agent had his bag stolen at gunpoint, according to a release from the Tustin Police Department.

During the incident, the agent fired his government-issued weapon, the United States Secret Service said.

The police department and Secret Service both said in separate statements they do not know if the suspect was injured as a result of the incident.

The Secret Service agents identity is not revealed in the press release.

President Joe Biden was in Los Angeles for a fundraiser event at the Peacock Theater on Saturday evening. The president returned to his Los Angeles hotel shortly before 9 p.m.

The suspect left the scene in a silver car and has not been located, though some of the Secret Service agents belongings were recovered.

In a statement first obtained by Scripps News, Anthony Guglielmi, the director of communications for the U.S. Secret Service, said, We are thankful that the employee did not sustain any injuries.

The Tustin Police Department says the investigation is open and active.

An arrest has been made in the murder of Rachel Morin, according to Maryland authorities.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office announced Saturday that Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, a citizen of El Salvador, was apprehended in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the crime late Friday night.

The 37-year-old mother of five was last seen on Aug. 5 when she left for a walk on the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail in Bel Air, Maryland, at 6 p.m. Her boyfriend reported her missing later that night when she never returned home, and her body was found near the trail less than 24 hours later.

Her death was later determined to be a homicide.

Eleven days later, the sheriff's office said that a DNA sample found at the crime scene was a match to a man wanted for a home invasion and an assault of a 9-year-old girl in Los Angeles. Authorities released surveillance video of the unknown male, but they weren't able to identify him.

It wasn't until February 2024 that the sheriff's office released a sketch of the man suspected in the case, which resembles Hernandez.

Not only was he a fugitive in Maryland, the 23-year-old was also on an ICE hold, according to online records.

According to officials, Martinez came to the United States illegally in February 2023 after being suspected of another murder in El Salvador.

He is charged with first-degree rape and murder and is currently being held without bond. The sheriff said Hernandez will be extradited back to Maryland in the coming days, but no date was confirmed.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs was arrested Sunday in Alabama.

According to records with the Tuscaloosa County Jail, the 27-year-old veteran was booked on a second-degree domestic violence and burglary charge. His bond was set at $5,000.

Buggs, who joined the Chiefs this offseason after two years with the Detroit Lions, was also recently arrested at the end of May on animal cruelty charges, which he "vehemently" denied. Court documents alleged two dogs were found malnourished and neglected at his Tuscaloosa home, which he claimed he moved out of around March 19.

Scripps News Kansas City has reached out to the Chiefs for a comment on Buggs' latest arrest Sunday but had not received a response at the time this story was published.

Earlier this year, second-year Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was arrested in connection to a six-vehicle injury crash in Dallas in which he fled the scene and later turned himself into authorities. Rice, 23, was also at the center of an investigation in which he reportedly assaulted a photographer at a Dallas nightclub in May. Authorities later said the alleged victim had decided not to press charges.

A community is reeling after nine people, including two children, were injured when a man opened fire at a Detroit-area splash pad.

The incident happened at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills, Michigan, on Saturday evening.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard released the victims' ages, which are as follows:

Bouchard said that some of the victims were part of the same family.

Officials believe the shooting at the splash pad appeared to be random.

According to Bouchard, the 42-year-old suspect, who police identified as Michael William Nash, had no criminal history and was living with his mother.

At a press conference Sunday, Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter said that three of the nine victims were operated on Saturday night, including the 8-year-old boy. The current condition of the victims hospitalized are unknown at this time.

"Yesterday's horrific shooting of nine people, including two young boys, at a splash pad in Rochester Hills is just another appalling example of senseless violence," Coulter said on Sunday. "Unfortunately in my five years as a county executive, this is now my second mass shooting. We're getting all too good at this and I'm disgusted by it."

Coulter said that anyone traumatized or affected by this event is asked to reach out to the Oakland County Health Network for help. Anyone who can't make it to Rochester Hills for in-person help is asked to call the nurse on call at 800-848-5533. Those services are available 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Rochester Hills Mayor Brian Barnett also spoke at the press conference, saying the past 24 hours "have been a nightmare."

Bouchard said the shooting victims are being treated in four nearby hospitals.

Corewell Health released the following statement on Saturday evening: "Our hearts are with those who were impacted by the shooting that occurred in Rochester Hills. We can confirm our team is caring for some of the victims, but we are not releasing any additional information."

Earlier reports from officials indicated possibly more injuries, but those numbers have since been revised.

We're told the suspect drove up just after 5 p.m. and then approached the splash pad, potentially firing more than 20 shots before leaving the scene. A weapon was recovered at the scene, according to Bouchard. At least one additional weapon was found inside the home.

I had my own son here last year, and I was supposed to have him this weekend and I was going to bring him up here to the same place and I thank God that I didnt, I could be at the hospital with my son right now, said a local resident.

Its traumatizing for everyone who is local, said Cari Dabrowski, a Rochester Hills resident. Were traumatized by it, we werent even directly involved, but its part of our community and we need to pull together in these times.

After some GoFundMe pages popped up in connection to the mass shooting, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office is warning people of fundraising scams.

"Some nefarious characters have created phony Go Fund Me pages, purporting to benefit victims of Saturdays splash pad shooting in Rochester Hills," read the statement from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office tweeted later that this GoFundMe page has been created by a family friend of a victim and is legitimate.

The Oakland Community Health Network made mental health services available Sunday for victims, their families, and people who were at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills at the time of the shooting.

Police in Aurora, Colorado, are searching for the suspects who posed as delivery drivers and robbed a family at gunpoint in their home.

The incident happened Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. Police said the suspects were dressed in construction vests and claimed they were there to drop off a package.

The Rodriguez family Saturday said they're still processing everything they've been through over the past few days.

Angelo Medina Rodriguez said he had ordered a video game for his son on Amazon, so he didn't think much of it when Rodriguez saw a man through his Ring Doorbell video saying he had a package to deliver.

Rodriguez said his 6-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter were home with their friend and caretaker, David Hernandez, at the time.

When they opened the door, he said three men with guns forced their way in, demanding money.

When [David] opened the door, they immediately pushed him and grabbed him by the neck," Rodriguez said in Spanish. They grabbed my daughter and started choking her."

Hernandez said that he was able to escape out the back door and run to a neighbor's house for help.

There was no need to hurt the kids," Hernandez said. Since the incident, he said he hasn't been able to sleep.

Rodriguez said his son and daughter suffered minor injuries from the attack and went to the hospital.

Rodriguez said the most challenging part of it has been how much it has impacted his wife and kids.

My wife doesnt want to come out, doesnt want to eat," he said. My daughter wont come out of her room."

Rodriguez said he's hoping his family can move to a new home soon because they no longer feel comfortable or safe living there.

Aurora investigators believe the family was targeted due to a business that was being run out of the home. The thieves stole personal items and cash from the business, according to police.

The Aurora Police Department is urging the community to be cautious of strangers at their doors. Delivery drivers traditionally wear branded uniforms, and you typically do not need to be home to receive a package.

Police also suggest that you consider alternate delivery options, such as picking up your mail from a P.O. box or choosing a "Hold for Pickup" option.

If something seems suspicious with your mail or delivery, contact the carrier and report the incident to your local police department.

Nine people were injured when a man opened fire at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in a Detroit suburb on Saturday.

Among those injured are two brothers an 8-year-old and a 4-year-old and their mother, according to the Oakland County Sheriffs Office. The 8-year-old boy and his mother are still in critical condition, but the 4-year-old boy is stable.

The rest of the victims are in stable condition but the extent of their injuries is unknown. They include a 30-year-old woman, a 30-year-old man, a 37-year-old woman, a 39-year-old woman, a 40-year-old man in stable condition and a 78-year-old man.

Officials believe the shooting at the splash pad in Rochester Hills was a random act of violence. A splash pad is a nonslip surface where people can play in fountains, typically found in public parks.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the gunman drove up to the park just after 5 p.m., approached the splash pad and fired more than 28 shots before leaving. He reloaded multiple times, officials said.

Law enforcement was able to track the suspect to a home not far from the recreational park in Shelby Township.

SWAT attempted to make contact, but officers discovered the suspected shooter had died by suicide.

According to Bouchard, the 42-year-old suspected gunman had no criminal history and was living with his mother, who was not home at the time. Officials later identified him as Michael William Nash.

A weapon was recovered at the shooting scene, according to Bouchard. A handgun was found next to the body and a semiautomatic rifle was discovered on the kitchen table.

Bouchard said Saturday that Nash may have been planning a second chapter to the shooting.

A Saturday morning youth football game in Maryland ended with a man dead and a 5-year-old wounded.

The shooting reportedly happened in the bleachers at the Potomac High School football field, which is just outside of Washington, D.C.

Prince George's County Police Chief Malik Aziz said the shooting was the result of an altercation between two individuals who knew each other and not something that happened on the field.

"They appeared to be, at this stage, to know each other and bring some issue outside of this game and brought it to this game, where 7-year-olds were playing a football game," he said.

The 5-year-old was taken to a hospital in the area, Aziz said, with non-life-threatening injuries.

"We are hearing, thankfully and prayerfully, that the child who was shot in this incident is going to recover," said County Executive Angela Alsobrooks.

The suspect reportedly left the scene and has not been caught, but Aziz assured the community that officers have leads that they are following up on.

"We have a great belief that we will bring that individual to justice," Aziz said.
