These are topics that have been tackled in past Moody's Mega Math Challenge competitions, where teams of students are given 14 hours to solve an open-ended, realistic, applied math-modeling problem focused on real-world issues, and are able to use any free, publicly available, and inanimate sources of information to help them. Registration is now open for the 2010 M3 Challenge which will be held during the weekend of March 6-7. The Challenge has expanded this year to include high schools along the entire East Coast, from Maine to Florida. Scholarship prizes have also increased—$100,000 will be awarded in 2010. There are no entrance or participation fees and each high school may enter up to two teams of three to five students each.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Utah's annual Youth Activist Scholarship Program will recognize Utah high school seniors for civil liberties activism with $1,000 scholarships. The winners will be entered to win one of 15 $7,000 scholarships from the ACLU's national office. That group will then become part of a group fostered by the ACLU national office. To qualify, students must demonstrate a strong commitment to civil liberties through some form of activism, be a high school senior who will be entering an accredited college or university as a full-time student during the next academic year, and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

From the very beginning, the leaders of Dixie Youth Baseball knew they wanted to develop a college scholarship program that would help former players obtain a college education. To be eligible for this scholarship the only qualification is that you must have at one time played in a Dixie Youth Baseball league. There is no relationship between the award of a scholarship and athletic ability. In the selection process, the Scholarship Committee, composed of National Directors, does give weight to such other factors as financial need, scholastic record and citizenship. Only students entering college for the first time may apply for a scholarship.

The philosophy of the NBA Scholarship Program differs from traditional scholarship programs in that NBA Scholarships will be awarded to students who possess academic credentials in the average to above-average range. In general, average and above-average academic credentials are, for high school seniors, those that rank a student in the top third of the senior class but not in the top 10 percent. Standardized test scores should range, for the ACT Composite, from 18 to 26, or, for the SAT, combined Verbal and Math, from 850 to 1170. Students enrolled in college should present college GPAs that range from 2.50 to 3.50 on a 4.00 scale, in addition to the proper high school credentials.

Representatives from the ACT college entrance exam will be awarding three scholarships annually to high school students who have the best poster design. High school students will design and submit posters promoting the value of college and the ACT test. A first place prize of a $5,000 scholarship is up for grabs.
