The second panel of this comic was the first of only three things in it that ever got icons made of them. The second was Asher's victory dance, and the third was the kitten.

I was always going to colour the frame for the purposes of better icons, but never got around to it. I'm horrible about putting off colouring things, which is why I never got around to doing any more of those 'Celeste Sings some History' comics. I can only colour when I've got a duedate, like a holiday comic or the cover of a book.

A special friend - Comic 1204

I’m not really any good at being “politically correct”, since I’ve always been of the opinions that words are just words and things are just what they are. Nevertheless, I don’t really have anything against people with mental disabilities being called “special”.

What I do have something against, is people that seem to be afraid of calling their boy or girlfriend exactly that, and so they come up with alternatives name that just don’t sound right. And while we’re there, what’s the matter with calling the person you’re married to “wife” or “husband”? Did the words do something to you when you were little?

“Significant other”, “life partner”, “special friend”… the list goes on and on! It’s all just a lit of many ways to avoid calling person by the word that best describes your relationship to him or her.

I’d like to thank a hot Canadian woman (that we’ll call “J”) because the idea for today’s comic came from a conversation with her. No, she didn’t refer to her boyfriend as a “special friend” - we just had a conversation about how we both hated those alternative names.
