2020-11-10T18:45:00.002+01:00

Enugu Youths and Students have proven to be more organized than any other youths and student body in other States. Just recently, they had a joint press conference where they interacted on the issues facing youths and students in the State.

I believe the above is what prompted this new development on hosting a Trade Fair for the Youths and Students in State.

The National Association of Nigerian students in conjunction with The National Youth Council of Nigeria hearkens to the economic yearnings of the Enugu youths and students community by creating a platform of product showcase and services exhibition targeted at building customer bases for youth owned businesses and SMEs and inspiring a recommitment to entrepreneurship.

Theme of this trade fair;

Encouraging youth Entrepreneurship and advancing the growth of youth owned SMEs by harnessing the huge market potentials of Enugu youths and student population.

STATEMENT OF NEED:

Enugu State owes 70% of her overall population to the youths and student community. The potentials of this huge population if harnessed becomes a huge market for any product, goods or services.

The rationale behind the Enugu state youths and students TRADE fair is to encourage entrepreneurship among young persons by galvanising the youth population into a huge market for youth owned businesses and SMES. This is structured to advance youth owned businesses by strategically introducing each business to the huge customer base of the youths and student community.

GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIP:

We are poised to encourage government investment in youth entrepreneurship, SMEs and skill acquisition by simulating a ready market from the Enugu large youth population for beneficiaries of government skills and SME programs. Enugu Youth Leaders Stormed South-East Governors Forum, Makes Strong Demands From Them.

2020-10-31T22:12:00.000+01:00

A delegation of Enugu State youths yesterday honoured the invitation of the southeast governor's forum to be part of the all important deliberations on the way forward for the region following the realities of the EndSARS Protest.

The meeting, which had in attendance all ranking Igbo leaders, governors, ministers, lawmakers etc also enjoyed the presence of members of the Movement For the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra MASSOB.

At the end of the meeting, the communique reads:

That The entire Igbo leaders, including South East Governors, the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Pro-Biafra group, the political class, traditional and religious leaders of Igbo extraction, have demanded that the Igbos should be given the opportunity to be President of Nigeria in 2023.

That Igbo leaders, and Youths demand the disarming of killer herdsmen with AK-47 in the South East, who have occupied our forests and farmlands, destroying, kidnapping, and killing our women.

The Igbos however, pledged to live and work peacefully with their brothers and sisters and herdsmen, who have been living peacefully with them.

They also requested for the creation of one more State in the South East to balance the equation with other regions.

The Igbo also demanded that the South East Governors should determine locations, where the road blocks are necessary in the zone, especially in emergency situations with a view to addressing the complaints of their people about many road blocks and extortions in the South East.

There’s serious discrimination and marginalisation of South East Federal civil servants. We want the FG to look into this.

Each state must set up youth Rehabilitation and Empowerment fund to address youth unemployment in the South-East.

South East should set up a monitoring committee in each state made up of youths, Igbo leaders, traditional rulers, clergymen and Governors’ representatives and women, they will monitor compensation and empowerment fund in the region. This is to be set up by the Governors and the FG.

The Igbo youths and MASSOB note with sadness, that Igbo land is being discriminated against in the allocation of Federal infrastructural projects. We note specifically, that all the Federal roads in Igbo land are in a terrible State of disrepair. We therefore demand that the FG should immediately approve a substantial intervention fund to complete these road projects.

We also demand that substantial allocation be made for major infrastructural projects in the 2021 budget currently before the NASS.

That the president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo should lead a delegation of South East youth representatives and selected Igbo leaders for the presidency, to make their demand known to Mr President.

The youth leaders commended these resolutions, especially the special attention to be tendered to the disturbing rate of unemployment in the region.

Among those who were present in the two days meeting and participated in the communique include: President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo; Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Dave Umahi and Okezie Ikpeazu of Enugu, Ebonyi and Abia sates, respectively. NANS Commends Ugwuanyi Over Swift Response To #EndSARS Victims

2020-10-29T08:55:00.002+01:00

It could be recalled that just two days ago, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) made a press statement condemning the killing of Mr. Ejike Okeke a student of IMT by a stray bullet from a careless security agent.

In that statement, we had called on the state governor and the father of Enugu state students to help secure justice for the dead student and compensate the bereaved family accordingly. Is it not then worth commendation that the governor Ugwuanyi led administration has immediately swung into action, dispatching government delegation to pay condolences to all bereaved families of the #EndSARS protest and initiating investigations geared towards identifying perpetrators of these crimes?

The state government has also gone further to demonstrate proactiveness by setting up a panel on victims of #EndSARS protest, to investigate and ascertain peculiar cases surrounding every victim of the protest and report for urgent government action.

Our faith and trust in the current administration is again reaffirmed by these urgent actions that clearly demonstrate responsiveness and forthrightness of government. . As the highest students leadership body, we are also elated that the government of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has ushered Enugu state students into a new phase of inclusion where classroom students will be involved and carried along in every committee, panels, boards and delegation. From where we stand, it demonstrates the administration's believe in the latent potentials of a student.

Instructively, while there is the long argument about palliatives, the leadership of Enugu state students vehemently refuse to thread the ignorant path remembering that governor Ugwuanyi remains the only governor in Nigeria that gave students palliative during the covid 19 lockdown, a gesture that Enugu state students will not forget in a hurry.

We clearly understand that this is a trying time for our dear state and our nation but we trust on the strength of the governor's compassionate character to manage all emotions and sentiments that have been stirred up by the events of the past few days.

Finally, we urge the members of the constituted panel to strive to live up to the demands of their mandate while we continue to maintain relations with the state government to ensure that investigations are fruitful.

Checkout The New Title Given To Sir Maurice Akueme

2020-09-04T14:09:00.001+01:00

Maurice Emeka Akueme's New Title, Narrating the reality of Njikokamma.

Njikoka is the African-Igbo philosophy of integrative humanism.

Integrative humanism is the philosophical orientation that sees reality as having both physical and spiritual dimensions, past and present; as well as harmonized framework in which seemingly opposed variables unite without contradiction to achieve progress and epistemic wholeness.

Being part of a community affects our daily life, attitude and character and greatly increases our power to act.

Njikoka is the act of coming together and integrating ourselves into a whole. It is having a place in one’s heart where every other persons dwell, for when you are in that place in me, and I am in that place in you, we are knitted by a strong bond into a whole. In like manner you share my pain and I share yours.

Igwebuike and Njikoka conform to the philosophy of “Ubuntu” (I am because we are). The Igbos express it by seeing yourself in me and I seeing myself in you.

Because I see myself in you, In Njikoka, the community is placed first before the self and the interest of others before one’s personal interest. All these are clearly evident in the lifestyle of Chief Maurice Emeka Akueme.

In Igwebuike, all the communal actions are participatory actions.

The essence of integrative humanism is to show

that through insights we can provide answers to most of the questions that confront us in our daily lives by means of collective responsibility.

Integrative humanism is grounded on the Igbo cultural injunction “Njikokamma” which translates “To integrate is better than to disintegrate”. It is a human centered theory which derives its insights from the Igbo culture.

This is expressed in the Igbo axiom of “Anyûkô nmamîrî ônû ô gbaa ûfûfû” which is

translated as “Unity is strength” bearing in mind that a tree cannot make a forest

(Otu osisi adîghî emebe ofîa).

We need other human beings in order to be human. An Igbo man will always convey by his words and actions the

philosophy of “Somadina” translated as “May I never be alone” approving that loneliness is undesirable, but collectivity is the greatest.

Now, relating The title Njikokamma to the bearer Chief Maurice Emeka Akueme; this title came amidst lots of controversy, however he scaled through not because he's in town to flaunt cash nor to bribe for it but because he had met the criteria spelt out so his followers and well wishers had to call out those involved in collating the list to do the needful. It was indeed a loud cry.

This cry showed "Njikota"; togetherness, oneness, unity, love.

The act of reviewing the list of inductees as a result of the outcry is one act which has proven that "Njikokamma"; togetherness, oneness, unity is best when you have gathered and sustained, maintained, managed and preserved your people and placing them first.

This title is well deserving to a man who have sketched out three ways in which he can reach the whole world, touch lives and uplift humanity through his Maurice Akueme Foundation (MAF).

The three focal points includes; to alleviate, to palliate, to empower.

Analysing the three focal points and how they have affected all aspects of life;

To Alleviate;

To alleviate means to reduce the pain or trouble of something/someone; to make something less painful, difficult, or severe, maybe to reduce poverty rate, etc.

Other synonyms for alleviate are; lighten, diminish, abate, relieve, assuage.

To Palliate;

To palliate means to lessen or to try to lessen the seriousness or extent of something by providing physical relief.

Other Synonyms for palliate are; extenuate, mitigate.

To Empower;

To empower someone means to give them the means to achieve something or livelihood, for example to become stronger or more successful.

Empowering someone makes him/her stronger and more confident, especially in controlling their life and claiming their rights.

Other synonyms for empower are; equip, authorize, permit, warrant, commission.

Haven analysed on the three focal points, we take a shift into MAF's effects on lives drawn from its three focal points.

MAF have since its birth have seen to the welfare of Nigerians, and Enugu mostly.

MAF have provided health care services to many without any mutual relationship with the beneficiaries.

MAF have provided scholarship to students through its scholarship scheme.

MAF have been active on poverty alleviation.

MAF have provided palliatives, this is evident in MAF's visit to Mpigi province in Uganda, donation of IDP centers, donation of wheel chairs to the physically challenged.

In the wake of the ravaging pandemic, MAF donated health care equipments, contributed in curbing the spread and reducing hunger virus in cash and food stuffs, the most of all is erecting a food bank in his country home to serve his people, of which as it stands at the moment; this food bank is currently taking care of the poorest of the poor, the vulnerable in Udi local government area.

Njikokamma through his MAF have empowered both the youth and the old, he has taken hundreds of youths off the street by creating better alternatives and providing start up funds for the poor. This have gone a long way to reduce crime and other social vices in our society.

This and many more that are not mentioned here and more yet to come have clearly shown the love of Sir Maurice Emeka Akueme for the people over himself.

The title Njikokamma perfectly suits this man.

His definition as a person created by God falls in line with the title, his character, and personality all intertwined.

Here comes the Njikokamma 1 of Enugu State, aka ji obodo, ôbata obie, Dike eji eje mba, Omeruôra, Odoziobodo, Njikota Chief Sir Maurice Emeka Akueme.

Your induction into the prestigious Ohanaeze Ndigbo Hall of Honor on 29th August, 2020 is well deserved.

Keep doing good, greater heights you shall go.

But like the Igbo adage says: Etoo dike na nke-omelu, omekwa ozo (Meaning if you praise one for the good deeds he/she did, he/she would be glad to do more).

Below are some picture evidence of the intervention of the State government in some primary schools in Ezeagu.

In Gburus, we have a leader. May God continue to bless NANS and his leaders especially Hon. Comrade Ilogebe Chidi (NANS VP National and SA to the Governor on Students), Comrade Ugwuegbe Darlington (NANS Zone B Deputy Coordinator), Comrade Ogene Romanus (JCC Chairman NANS Enugu State) and many other NANS stakeholders for this wonderful initiative.

Tears Of Joy As Honourable Member Shares Palliative Worth Millions In His Constituency.

2020-08-24T10:33:00.000+01:00

August 21st, 2020 was indeed a happy day to the entire Enugu North and South Federal Constituency as the member representing them in the House of Representative, Hon. Ofor Chukwuegbo shared palliatives worth millions of Naira to some lucky people in his constituency.

This is actually my first time of hearing that an Honourable member shared palliatives that costs this much. The people of Enugu North and South are indeed lucky to have Hon Ofor Chukwuegbo as member representing them in the House of Representative.

At least 26 persons were given a Tricycle each to cater for their life and that of their families. One can measure the amount of joy in their hearts by just looking at their facial expression. They never saw it coming.

These beneficiaries are not the first batch of the group planned by Hon. Chukwuegbo as business empowerment for deserving constituents. Those who got gifts of tricycles this morning included two visually impaired citizens, Messrs Aniagu Purpose Okechukwu, and Sunday Egbo.

Hadjia Hadiza Mohammed, a Hausa political activist from Garki, urban area of Enugu, also got a tricycle.

The founder of Enugu Progressive Forum (EPF) by name Hon Edu Dominion while congratulating the beneficiaries also showers praises on Hon Ofor Chukwuegbo. He thanked him for this kind of generosity towards his people and the people of Enugu State at large.

Hon. Edu Dominion (The Founder Of EPF)

The core mandate of Enugu Progressive Forum (EPF) is to synergize with the government and good spirited citizens to improve the polity and development of the state, they also prioritize human capital development and humanitarian services, cause they believe the duo are the bedrock of any meaningful and impactful societal change of any state.

Hon. Chukwuegbo who came in from Abuja midway into the exercise, was nearly mobbed by excited beneficiaries who prayed and sang his praises and danced enthusiastically.

This is not the first time Hon Ofor Chukwuegbo would raise needy constituents with tricycles. He had also given out several vehicles to other citizens a while ago.

Let's pray that many other politicians will emulate his pattern of representation.

I STAND WITH THE YOUTHS

The vital organs of every nation, the pride of every living society, Volatile and integral, indispensable members of the society, I salute the Youth.

The stem of every responsive national development, the hardest and most cuddled members of every family. The ones who give their lives in war front to save generations and aging parents. Men and women of valour, I salute You.

You are the trailblazers of every society, the Pathfinders of uncharted courses, rugged and tenacious, die-hard-hearted even in the face of imminent extinction. I salute The youth.

The youths are the global legion of survivors, volunteers, motivators, politicians, and lots more, an Informal organization larger than the United Nations.

I can say it again and again that the youths are the heartbeat of the earth, a group of people that can change the narratives of human living, Yes you can.

You are endowed with powers to build and to destroy, to build and to destroy. You have the capacity and audacity to plunder and dominate the earth.

Let the Renaissance continue. Awake o youths and face the Incidents ravaging our country. We are the bow and the arrow. I see youths uniting in forums like never before, this should not stop there, let's unite to act. We shall not carry arms or stones, but we are on the forefront of change.

Our times as a youth are limited, we must act before we age.

Nigeria is our fatherland and we have no other place to run to should our fatherland collapse. We own the nation, we shall stay and fight for our birthright, yes our right.

We shall not fold our arms and watch expiring men ruin the assets our ancestors left.

We ourselves are assets, our own assets, assets for posterity.

The narratives are about to change, let the change begin, we are running out of time.

The Stone age idealism that characterise today's modern slavery is about to stop. We can stop it.

Youths must take charge and not be charged, this is our ambition and mission, we must not let go of con men who dress in political robes to cause fights among us. If the men we put as leaders can not account let's set the standards.

We need to overhaul the system; ridding the society of perpertrators of evil and official criminals.

Enugu State Government Partners With NANS On Agricultural Empowerment.

2020-08-12T00:22:00.001+01:00

YOUTH AGRIBUSINESS HUB: OFFICE OF THE SPA ON AGRIC PARTNERS WITH NANS ENUGU.

The office of the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Enugu state on Agriculture under the ingenious watch of Hon. Michael Ogbuekwe has remained one of the many arms of Ugwuanyi's administration that have religiously served ndi Enugu with people driven and out of the box democratic dividends.

The revamping and packaging of the coal city rice, the discovery and branding of the Nsukka pepper, Enugu Okro, Cashew, Honey and Palm oil stands out as government's efforts that clearly shows the involvement of a novel cerebral character in the Agriculture sector, a clear validation of the popular assertion that Ugwuanyi's second term cabinet is made of technocrats who are ready to deliver.

Most recently, in consonance with Gov. Ugwuanyi's youth empowerment agenda, empowerment beckons on Enugu students as the radar of the SPA on Agric moves to illuminate the youth and student constituency. The office of the SPA on Agric is set to partner with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on an Agric empowerment project tagged: YOUTH AGRIBUSINESS HUB.

The YOUTH AGRIBUSINESS HUB is a youth oriented initiative that explores and unveils the spectrum of opportunities in the Agriculture value chain such as:

1. Agric job creation

2. Agric skill development

3. Agric Tech innovation

4. Agric business development

5. Agric Students mentorship

6. Agri marketing.

In a nation where there is an urgent call for youth entrepreneurship, alternative source of national income and exploration of our nation's agricultural potentials, NANS finds this partnership with the Agric sector both strategic and timely. May God bless NANS Enugu as they continue to work assiduously to ensure total social and financial emancipation of Enugu state students.

NANS Enugu Stay Fit Initiative, One Of The Best Things That Happened To The Students In Enugu State.

2020-08-05T17:27:00.005+01:00

The Corona-Virus Pandemic destroyed many plans this year. It is among the things I can't pray to happen my enemy, not to talk about my friends. It destroyed futures, it also brought famine to the world as all activities was shut down.

Students are among the most affected by the Pandemic. Some students could have graduated by now, but due to the Pandemic they are still answering students while at home. It came at a time where many students prayed to at least go out and exercise their bodies.

These students' prayers were answered in Enugu State when the highest student body in the country by names National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Enugu State Chapter started the NANS Stay Fit Initiative.

All thanks to Comrade Romanus Ngene (The NANS JCC Chairman Enugu State) and his executives for this wonderful initiative to help exercise the students of Enugu State both physically and mentally because staying indoors has done more harm than good for most students in the state.

Below are some pictures from the NANS Enugu Stay Fit Initiative. You can agree with me that they adhere to all the protective measures outlined by NCDC. They have Medical Team that checks your temperature before you enter the venue.

More are yet to come this August as Comrade Sopuruchi Gift Rufus (The Director of Entertainment NANS Enugu) will be taking the Stay Fit Initiative to another level. She has introduced more games like the Marathon Race, Inter Campus Football Team, Relay Race, Thug Of War etc.

NANS Enugu is united and I urge other students bodies in the country to emulate them. They shared palliatives to the students of Enugu State and to the general public. They also went round to educate people on how to Stay Safe during the unset of the corona virus pandemic.

All thanks Hon. Com. Chidi Ilogebe (The SA to the Governor of Enugu State on Students Affairs and The NANS VP National), Comrade Ugwuegbe Darlington (The Deputy Coordinator NANS Zone B), Comrade Romanus Ngene (The JCC Chairman NANS Enugu State), Comrade Ejike Celestine and all other great stake holders of NANS Enugu State for their unity, uplifting spirit, endless love etc. towards each other.
