Indian Premier League Cricket Returns to ITV4

The glitziest cricket tournament in the world – the Indian Premier League – is back, and ITV4 is covering every game.

The channel will be showing 72 of 76 games live and highlights of the other matches from the start of the competition on April 4.

The IPL, known for its glamour and razzmatazz, is in its fifth year and the first game this time will feature 2011 champions Chennai Super Kings starting the defence of their title against 2010 runners-up Mumbai Indians.

Major stars of the game including Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen, Lasith Malinga and Kumar Sangakkara will all be involved in the Twenty20 tournament as nine sides battle it out for the title.

Competing in the IPL this year alongside Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Pune Warriors India, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

It is ITV’s third year covering the competition and Matt Smith and Shonali Nagrani return as main anchors. The team of presenters will also include former England cricketer Isa Guha as well as Angus Scott and Mark Pougatch.

ITV Launches Replacement of News Channel and Local

ITV has unveiled its brand new digital news offering which is being rolled out in beta this week ahead of Wednesday’s Budget 2012 announcement.

The new 24 hour news site, which is optimised for use on mobiles and tablets, is packed with broadcast quality video and aims to bring real-time rolling news to the public in a brand new slick and efficient digital product.

Putting digital at the heart of ITV's news operation, the site will draw on ITV’s award-winning national and regional news gathering operation, offering journalists from across ITV’s extensive network of UK newsrooms, the tools they need to quickly and efficiently break news and update stories online from wherever they are based.

As part of the wider transformation of ITV News, the new site has been created in partnership with digital innovation and service design experts Made by Many and incorporates a rolling news timeline. The site draws not only from content created by ITV News journalists, but also reflects the conversations that happen around breaking news on other sites and platforms such as Twitter.

Revenues and Profits Increase at ITV

ITV sees revenue and profit growth based on its continued growth online and an improvement in broadcast advertising sales.

External revenues up 4% at £2,140m (2010: £2,064m) driven by non-advertising revenues

Total non-NAR revenues up £93m or 11% to £922m (2010: £829m), mainly due to revenue growth from UK and international studios businesses

ITV Family NAR up 1% - outperforming the TV advertising market

ITV Family SOV up 1% with strong performance by digital channels up 10%

EBITA before exceptional items up 13% to £462m (2010: £408m)

Adjusted PBT up 24% to £398m (2010: £321m)

Adjusted EPS up 23% at 7.9p (2010: 6.4p)

Cost savings of £20m delivered – funding investments aligned to the Transformation Plan – with a further £20m identified for 2012

Positive net cash position of £45m (2010: net debt of £188m), with profit to cash conversion again over 100%

Continued improvement in the efficiency of the balance sheet with £339m of bonds bought back in 2011

The Board has proposed a final dividend of 1.2p to give a total dividend for 2011 of 1.6p

We expect ITV Family NAR to be down 2% in Q1 and April broadly flat. While we remain cautious on the outlook for advertising, we expect to outperform the market over the full year.

“We’re now almost two years into our five-year Transformation Plan and our continued growth in revenue and profit - at a time when the advertising market is broadly flat - demonstrates that we’re performing in line with our strategic priorities. The increase in non-advertising revenues of £93m, driven by our studios and online businesses, is clear evidence of progress in rebalancing the Company and our ability to grow new revenue streams.

‘Our financial position was further strengthened during the year through our ongoing focus on cash generation and cost reduction. We have our first positive net cash position since ITV was created in 2004 and more than delivered our targeted cost savings.

‘ITV Studios, under the new management team, has made real progress creatively and operationally both in the UK and internationally. We have delivered double digit revenue growth and a 28% increase in new commissions to 111, of which 45 are international.

On screen we have grown family SOV and we continue to outperform the advertising market. We have seen strong growth in online video views as ITV Player was rolled out across more platforms.

The VOD and pay deals we recently signed with Sky, Netflix and Lovefilm open up new pay revenue streams, which we will continue to build as part of our pay strategy.

‘Although ITV Family NAR has started the year better than we anticipated, it is expected to be down 2% in Q1 against tough comparatives. We remain cautious on the market outlook for 2012 but we expect to outperform the market for the full year.

ITV4 Extends Tour de France Deal until 2015

ITV has extended its broadcast rights deal for live coverage and highlights of cycling’s premier event, the Tour de France, in a new deal finalised today.

Under the new agreement with the ASO, ITV4 will continue to broadcast live daily coverage throughout the Tour and will continue to broadcast daily evening highlights on the channel. ITV will also extend its digital and online coverage around the Tour de France from this year.

Niall Sloane, ITV’s Controller of Sport said: “ITV’s coverage of the Tour de France has a terrific reputation with viewers and sports fans and I’m delighted that, in one of the most exciting periods for British cycling, we have secured coverage on ITV4 until 2015.”

Coronation Street Stage Show to Premiere March 2012 Hosted by Paul O'Grady

Reckless Entertainment, in association with ITV Studios and SMG Europe, has announced “Street of Dreams”, a major live musical event in celebration of Coronation Street which will debut in Manchester for a spectacular world premiere next March starring faces from the street - past and present and hosted by Paul O’Grady.

After more than fifty years on air, Britain’s best-loved soap has a glorious heritage of unforgettable stories and iconic characters which have been handpicked and now carefully crafted into this brilliant musical event by award-winning musical writer, composer and lyricist, Trisha Ward.

BAFTA winning film and stage Director, John Stephenson OBE (“5 Children & IT” and “Animal Farm”), will direct the live musical tribute, which is to be staged on an ambitious scale with a spectacular set and special visual effects at Manchester’s M.E.N Arena. A 25 piece orchestra, a West End cast and choreography from Olivier award winning Stephen Mear will complete the dazzling production which has been co-scripted by Damon Rochefort (“Coronation Street” & “Birds of a Feather”). ITV Confirms Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley to Leave Daybreak

ITV has mutually agreed with Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley that they will step down from their regular presenting roles on Daybreak later this year to focus on their peak time commitments with ITV1.

Adrian Chiles will prioritise his role as the anchor of ITV’s extensive live football coverage, which includes the FA Cup, England’s internationals as well as the UEFA Champions League. It can also be confirmed that Adrian’s successful topical discussion show, That Sunday Night Show, will return to ITV1 for a third series in 2012.

Christine Bleakley will focus on a range of peak time shows for ITV1, including a new role as the co-presenter of Dancing on Ice alongside Phillip Schofield. This December Christine will also host Westlife: For The Last Time and co-present ITV’s major new charity and entertainment initiative for Christmas, Text Santa. ITV1 is also developing a new peak time factual entertainment challenge show with Christine as well as a new peak time home renovation programme.

ITV Win Rights to French Open Grand Slam Tennis

ITV has secured a major new television sports contract with the acquisition of the live broadcast rights to the Roland Garros tennis Grand Slam.

As part of a new landmark three-year deal with the Fédération Française de Tennis (FFT), brokered by MP & Silva, ITV will broadcast extensive live coverage from the Roland Garros tennis Grand Slam throughout the 15-day tournament.

ITV4 and ITV.com will broadcast around six hours of live coverage from each day’s play as well as highlights, with four matches, including both the men’s and ladies’ singles finals, also shown live on ITV1.

ITV Grabs UEFA Europa League Rights from Channel 5

ITV has secured the broadcast rights to the first and second pick matches from the UEFA Europa League competition in a new deal announced today.

As part of a new three-year deal with UEFA running from the 2012-13 to 2014-15 seasons inclusive, ITV will broadcast the first and second pick Europa League matches throughout each competition match week as well as a highlights programme. All matches will be broadcast free-to-air, with the majority on ITV4 and ITV.com, and some matches featuring domestic teams from the quarter finals onwards shown on ITV1.

The new agreement cements ITV’s long running and successful partnership with UEFA, with ITV1 securing live UEFA Champions League football until 2015 earlier this year. Europa League football has consistently attracted strong audiences to ITV4 with August’s Hearts v Tottenham Hotspur tie peaking with 1.9 million viewers.

ITV Political Editor Tom Bradby to Host Own Discussion Show

ITV has commissioned a new discussion show for 2012, to be fronted by ITV News' political editor, Tom Bradby.

ITN Productions will produce the eight-part series, which will tackle the hot topical issues of the week. In each programme Tom will be joined by four studio guests to talk through the controversies and talking points of the past seven days. Drawn from across a range of backgrounds, the panellists will contribute diverse perspectives to half an hour of compelling discussion on the stories that people really care about, from politics to popular culture.

Filmed at The Hospital, the series will be broadcast on ITV1 in the spring in a weeknight slot. It is commissioned by Ian Squires, Controller of Current Affairs & News Operations at ITV. Executive Producer is Chris Shaw, Editorial Director at ITN Productions.

Ian Squires said: “By offering a forum for intelligent discussion, this new series brings to ITV1’s schedule a fresh opportunity for our channel to engage with viewers on the issues and stories they’re talking about and that matter to them, while they’re at their most current.”

Construction Begins on New Coronation Street Set

A new era of television history began this week as Coronation Street stars William Roache and Michelle Keegan donned hard hats and picked up spades to 'break the ground' at their future new home.

The Corrie duo were marking the imminent start of building work on the 7.7 acre site where ITV is creating a bespoke stand alone production and studio centre for the world's longest running drama.

Joined by representatives from the Coronation Street production team, ITV senior management, project partners and local councillors, William Roache said "It’s over fifty years since I first walked on to a Coronation Street set, and now I’m here with Michelle, starting the build of our new home – the one that will take us well in to this century, and it feels fantastic”.

Kevin Lygo, Managing Director, ITV Studios said: “Our move to MediaCityUK is an historic one that will continue our commitment to the North, ensuring our longevity as the major programme maker in the region and make us a crucial part of Europe’s biggest media population. It is a very exciting time."

Building on the new site is expected to continue until spring 2013. The production will then relocate from central Manchester to the new centre, just across the water from the heart of MediaCityUK which is to be home to ITV Studios’ production and management teams, regional news and support staff.

ITV Appoints Sky News' David Kermode as Editor of Daybreak

ITV Studios has appointed David Kermode, currently editor of 5 News for Sky News, editor of Daybreak.

Kermode was appointed by Fiona Keenaghan, Controller of ITV Studios Daytime.

Kermode is currently responsible for the 5 News contract at Sky News, with editorial responsibility across two daily news programmes, short updates as well as a daily entertainment magazine programme and documentaries for the channel. Since taking up the role in 2007 he re-launched the 5 News programme; boosting audience share and increasing share of both the ABC1 and 16-34 audience, with the programme shortlisted three times for RTS News Programme of the Year.

Prior to joining Sky News, Kermode was editor of BBC Breakfast for BBC News from 2004 to 2007 and was responsible for re-positioning the show which saw it become the UK’s most popular breakfast programme. Prior to BBC Breakfast, Kermode was an editor for BBC Weekend News and BBC News 24.

David Kermode said: "I'm massively excited about taking the helm at Daybreak. I know it's a fantastic team, there’s lots to do and I can't wait to get started.”

Kermode will work with Karl Newton, who becomes Executive Producer of Daybreak. It was announced earlier this summer that production staff for Daybreak and Lorraine would become part of the ITV Studios production team, which produces all of ITV’s morning output, from Jeremy Kyle to Loose Women.

Ian Rumsey, currently editor of Daybreak, announced in July that he had decided to step down after a year at the helm of ITV’s breakfast show.

ITV4 to Broadcast Live Coverage of La Vuelta Tour of Spain

ITV4 will broadcast live coverage and highlights throughout the 2011 Vuelta a España as part of a new agreement with the ASO and Unipublic.

Beginning this Saturday, August 20th, La Vuelta takes place over three weeks to Sunday September 11th; and is made up of 21 stages covering a total distance of 3300 kilometres. British interest in the race should include this year’s Tour de France green jersey and also victor in last weekend’s London-Surrey Classic, Mark Cavendish; as well as Bradley Wiggins, the winner of this year’s Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré.

ITV4 will broadcast around two hours of live coverage from each race day* as well as 30 minute highlights programmes each evening. ITV Sport’s Ned Boulting presents coverage alongside Matt Rendell. ITV.com will also simulcast live coverage and highlights programmes as well as offering shorter highlights clips.

ITV’s Controller of Sport, Niall Sloane said: “It’s been a terrific year for British cycling with more viewers than ever before watching ITV4’s coverage of the Tour de France earlier this summer. I’m delighted that we’re able to offer viewers free to air coverage of the Vuelta a España.”

Viewing to ITV4’s highlights of the 2011 Tour de France was up 33 percent year-on-year.

ITV News Appoints Richard Edgar as Economics Editor

ITV News has appointed Richard Edgar as its Economics Editor to complete the line up of its new-look business unit.

Richard joins from the Financial Times where he has led multi-platform innovation as global editor of the newspaper’s award-winning video service. He will lead all economics coverage for ITV News, reporting and analysing the challenges and recovery of the UK economy and developments in international markets and territories. Alongside the newly-appointed ITV News Business Editor Laura Kuenssberg, Richard will regularly contribute news and analysis to ITV.com/news, Facebook and Twitter.

Joining ITV News in October, Richard has vast experience in covering national and international economic issues for broadcast and online outlets having previously been Editor in Charge, EMEA, for Reuters Television, Presenter at BBC World Service and Business Editor of the Today programme, among other roles. Under his tenure, FT.com has won awards from the Association of Online Publishers and Amnesty International.

Richard replaces Daisy McAndrew, who has led ITV News coverage of the recession and debt crisis and now moves to become a special correspondent for ITV News at Ten.

ITV Launches ITV Local Hero Award

ITV has launched a nationwide search to find role models who make a positive difference to their neighbourhoods or communities as part of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards.

Regional news programmes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have joined forces to invite viewers to nominate outstanding individuals for the ITV Local Hero Award.

The title will go to an exceptional individual who works tirelessly to improve the lives of those around them, from creating or running charities to campaigning or fundraising. ITV viewers will be asked to nominate role models who have voluntarily led, supported or saved community projects; tackled anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhoods, played a major part in improving local amenities or have been a driving force in bringing their community together.

The deadline for nominations is Friday August 12th

Ulrika Jonsson has spoken exclusively to ITV1’s Tonight programme about how an editorial executive at The News of the World warned her about phone hacking practice and her experience of being contacted by the Met Police about it.

In an interview with Alastair Stewart for the special programme in light of recent events, Ulrika Jonsson tells ITV1’s Tonight:

Ulrika Jonsson on the price of fame:

UJ: “Over the years I've been made to believe that there will be a price to pay for being in the public eye, and that price will be some kind of punishment metered out by people who believe that you have no right to any kind of private life.”

On discovering that she had been hacked:

UJ: “I was contacted by the Met Police on my mobile phone and they left me a number and said please call me back we have some very important evidence we want to show you. There were pin codes, numbers for my automatic front gate where I lived and the feeling that, according to these notes, that I was definitely being watched. Immediately my head started pounding. I felt… I really felt very sick. I felt immediately like my stomach was turning. I felt really scared - somebody’s been watching or certainly somebody’s been listening to my life.”

On an editorial executive at The News of the World warning Ulrika about hacking practice:

Alastair Stewart: “Someone high up at The News of the World warned you to be careful?”

UJ: ”Yes, someone warned me not to leave voicemails.”

AS: “An executive?”

UJ: “Because they can get those. They couldn’t intercept text messages but they can get voicemails.”

AS: “An editorial executive at The News of the World warned you to be cautious?”
UJ: “Indeed.”

UK: “For me it’s always been a question of who can get the story first and who can put the most meat on the bones of any story – definitely without a doubt it’s a competition between newspapers.”

AS: “Because it’s a competition for sales and revenue?

UJ: “It absolutely is.”

AS: “Do you think the world’s a better place without The News of the World?”

UJ: “Actually, I would say that The News of the World did an awful lot of good. Unfortunately, underneath all that was a very, very dark side – but I think it’s very clear it was not just The News of the World where this took place.”

ITV4 to Televise Darts Partypoker.net European Championship

The £200,000 tournament will be played from July 28-31 at the Maritim Hotel in Dusseldorf, Germany, as 32 players compete for the £50,000 title.

The European Championship has been won in each of the past three years since its inception in 2008 by world number one Phil Taylor, who has defeated Adrian Lewis, Steve Beaton and Wayne Jones in the respective finals.

Taylor will be amongst this year's qualifiers, with the world's top 16 following the forthcoming World Matchplay joined by the top eight Players Championship Order of Merit qualifiers and the top eight European Order of Merit qualifiers.

The broadcasts on ITV4 will see the broadcaster continue their coverage of PDC darts tournaments, having also previously screened the Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals, as well as the 2008 European Championship.

"We're delighted to continue our association with ITV4 for the PartyPoker.net European Championship," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

"This tournament has gained in popularity in each of the past three years, with the mix of the world's top professionals and form qualifiers from Europe and the UK making it a vibrant tournament."

BBC's Laura Kuenssberg Moves to ITV as Business Editor

ITV announced today that Laura Kuenssberg, currently Chief Political Correspondent for the BBC, will take up the newly created role of Business Editor for ITV News.

Laura, who is expected to join in September, will lead business coverage for ITV News and provide analysis of the latest business stories, both in the UK and internationally. Laura will also contribute towards business reporting on ITV1’s current affairs strand, Tonight.

Laura joins from the BBC where she won acclaim for her coverage of the 2010 General Election and the formation of the Coalition government. Other major stories she has covered include Barack Obama’s presidential campaign; the build-up to the Iraq war; and the accession of the Eastern European countries into the EU from Prague, Warsaw and Berlin.

Laura has extensive experience as a correspondent, having reported for a range of flagship BBC programmes including BBC News, BBC News Channel, Newsnight, Today, Daily Politics and BBC Breakfast. Additionally, Laura’s home affairs reporting for BBC North East and Cumbria earned her a prestigious Royal Television Society Award. Before joining the BBC, Laura reported for Channel 4 News and NBC.

ITV's Daybreak Launches 'Donate a Day' Initiative

Simon Cowell, Rod Stewart, Pixie Lott and Paul O'Grady are among the stars that have pledged their support to Daybreak’s Donate a Day initiative launching on Monday 23rd May 2011.

The fully interactive initiative will encourage viewers young and old to pledge their time to help a worthy cause or those in need – from doing a neighbour’s shopping, transforming a piece of waste ground, decorating a community centre to simply offering an elderly person some company. And - as part of the initiative viewers will see ADRIAN CHILES, CHRISTINE BLEAKLEY, and other members of the Daybreak presenting team donate their time over the course of the week for various causes.

Adrian will return to Birmingham to spend the day with Age UK, Christine will visit the Teenage Cancer Trust in Cardiff, Dan will teach tennis to inner city kids, Kate will work in a Save the Children store and Dr Hilary will spend the day at a hospice in Exeter.

Stars of Emmerdale and Loose Women will also be donating their time across the week as part of the initiative.

CHRISTINE BLEAKLEY said: “Time is precious and in today’s busy world it’s easy to lose track of what ‘s important around us. Take That to Exclusively Perform X-Men Movie Soundtrack at National Movie Awards on ITV

ITV Secures UEFA Champions League Rights to 2015

ITV has retained the rights to broadcast live UEFA Champions League football until 2015 under a new three-year deal announced today.

Under the new agreement with UEFA, ITV will broadcast the first pick of Tuesday live Champions League matches from each stage of the competition, from the play-offs through to the final – 18 games in total across each of the 2012/13, 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons. ITV has also retained the rights to broadcast the UEFA Super Cup.

ITV has a long association with the UEFA Champions League having broadcast coverage since the tournament’s inception in 1992. As part of an enhanced new media rights agreement over the latest term, ITV will also broadcast its live matches online and on demand – and has secured online and mobile VOD rights to clips of all matches and the rights to include commercial advertising across online and mobile UEFA Champions League content.

ITV’s Controller of Sport, Niall Sloane said: “The UEFA Champions League continues to set the benchmark for sports competitions across the world and has been a hugely successful part of the ITV1 schedule over many years.

ITV Unveils Royal Wedding Coverage Plans

ITV will broadcast comprehensive coverage of the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton on Friday 29th April, presented by ITV News at Ten's Julie Etchingham and ITV's Phillip Schofield, who will anchor coverage live from a specially constructed studio opposite Buckingham Palace.

An experienced line up of ITV1's presenters and reporters including Alastair Stewart, Mary Nightingale and Mark Austin will be based at key procession points all over London throughout the day.

James Mates leads commentary of events from Westminster Abbey and Tom Bradby - who conducted the only interview given by the couple following their engagement - will give an insider's insight into the life of William and Kate after their marriage.

Build up to the wedding will begin early in the morning on Daybreak, with presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley based from a special studio at London's Canada Gate.

In addition to the live rolling coverage, ITV1 will broadcast extended news programmes in peak time, including an hour-long early evening news special at 6pm and an extended edition of ITV News at Ten.

Anchors Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley will provide the gateway to the big day guiding viewers through the immediate build up from an ITV studio at Canada Gate.

Daybreak will be capturing the mood of the nation as its team of presenters and correspondents broadcast live from around the country including Kate Garraway in the bride's village of Bucklebury, Lucy Verasamy at Westminster Abbey, Grainne Seoige in Pontefract and Daybreak's team of correspondents around the UK as well as live links to Camp Bastion.

The Royal Wedding
ITV1, Friday 29th April

Julie Etchingham, presenter of ITV News at Ten and ITV1's Tonight Programme, and ITV's Phillip Schofield will anchor The Royal Wedding special from 8.30am.

Joining Julie and Phillip for live coverage of the historic day will be a range of ITV's senior news presenters and reporters.

Mary Nightingale will be reporting live from Westminster Abbey as guests arrive, accompanied by fashion experts; with reaction from guests as they spot friends of the couple, representatives of their chosen charities and members of the Armed Forces among the crowd.

Linking in to the studio, Alastair Stewart will be waiting for the first glimpse of Kate Middleton leaving her Central London location as a commoner and heading to Westminster Abbey for the marriage ceremony where she will join the Royal Family.

Senior Correspondent James Mates will lead live commentary of events inside the Abbey. Tom Bradby - who conducted the only interview given by the couple following their engagement - will give an insider's insight into the life of William and Kate after their marriage.

Mark Austin will be located on The Mall, soaking up the atmosphere of the crowds as the wedding procession passes by, along with Geraint Vincent; while Nina Hossain will join the celebrations at a live screening in London's Hyde Park. ITV News's Royal Correspondent Tim Ewart will provide his expertise throughout the extended evening news bulletins. Additionally, there will be reports from Matt Smith in St Andrews, the university town where the couple met, as well as Andrea Benfield in Anglesey, where they currently reside.

ITV Secures New Four Year Deal for Indian Premier League

ITV has agreed a new four-year deal with Nimbus Communications for the UK broadcast rights to the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket competition.

Under the new agreement, live coverage of IPL matches will be broadcast free-to-air on ITV4 and simulcast live on ITV.com. The fourth season of the Indian Premier League begins on April 8th running over 74 matches to May 28th. ITV4 coverage will be produced by ITV Sport with the presenting team due to be announced shortly.

Announcing the deal, Niall Sloane, ITV’s Controller of Sport said: “ITV4 has a fast growing reputation for broadcasting sport and, after a terrific audience response to our coverage of last year’s competition and more recently the winter Ashes series, I’m delighted that we have secured a new four-year deal for free-to-air coverage of the Indian Premier League.”

Yannick Colaco, COO, Nimbus said: “We are delighted to partner with one of UK’s biggest commercial broadcasters, ITV, to telecast the IPL in UK. We look forward to a fruitful partnership and an exciting IPL season four.”

Cricket made its debut on ITV4 in 2010 with live coverage of the third season of IPL and was followed later in the year by highlights of England’s 2010-11 Ashes, Twenty20 and One Day International series in Australia. ITV4 is available to over 93 percent of homes on platforms including Freesat, Freeview, Sky and Virgin Media. The channel’s sports line-up includes live UEFA Europa League, Tour de France and British Touring Cars and highlights of Rugby’s Aviva Premiership, Heineken Cup and LV Cup.

Playing Twenty20 cricket, ten teams compete in the IPL with the 2011 season played across 12 venues in India. The competition attracts some of the world’s greatest players and in 2011 will include: Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Warne, Daniel Vettori, Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, Jacques Kallis, Graeme Smith; with English players including Paul Collingwood, Michael Lumb, Eoin Morgan and Owais Shah.

The IPL has become one of the biggest sporting spectacles in the world, broadcasting to audiences of 145 million last year in India itself and capturing large global audiences across all continents including Australia, U.S.A and across the Middle East.

ITV1 Commissions Two Documentaries on Royal Weddings

ITV1 have also commissioned two documentaries on a royal theme from ITV Studios Leeds-based outfit Shiver.

When Kate Met William charts and compares the upbringings and stories so far of two young people destined to become the world’s most famous couple. The documentary hears from those who know Kate Middleton and Prince William to find out how this captivating royal love story came about.

Meanwhile, Charles and Diana – The Wedding of The Century tells the story of how 30 years ago, in July 1981, time stood still for a wedding that was to become one of the defining moments of the 20th century – and all the more poignant because of the tragedy which was to follow.

The two, one-hour documentaries, are being produced by Yvette Lyons and Kerry Allison respectively and executive produced by Shiver’s Creative Director, Mark Robinson.

Robinson said: “Shiver has built up a reputation for producing pop culture documentaries like I Was There...When The Beatles Played The Cavern and The Betty Driver Story. It’s exciting to be able to extend our output into chronicling royal history too.”

Both shows were commissioned by Diana Howie, Commissioning Editor, Factual, for ITV1 with Alison Sharman, Director of Factual and Daytime.

ITV News Wins Five Awards at the RTS Journalism Awards

ITV News won five awards at the prestigious Royal Television Society Journalism Awards in London, including the coveted News Programme of the Year award for ITV News at Ten.

Mark Austin, Julie Etchingham and the ITV News team collected arguably the biggest award of the night amidst other successes for ITV national and regional news.

The night started well for ITV News with Rohit Kachroo collecting the first award to be announced – the young journalist of the year award. Rohit, who is now Africa Correspondent for ITV News, won the award for his investigation into Birmingham Social Services for ITV News and ITV1’s Tonight Programme.

ITV Border won the highly competitive nations and regions news programme of the year award for its coverage of the day of the Cumbria shootings in June 2010. Further afield, ITV national news won the international award for its coverage of the Haiti earthquake – coverage that had already won ITV News a BAFTA.

The judges’ award was jointly accepted by ITV, BBC and Sky for developing and producing the election Leaders Debates, which made political and broadcasting history.

Other ITV News nominees on the night included ITV News cameraman Dave Harman for Camera Operator of the Year, Political Editor Tom Bradby for specialist journalist of the year, Bill Neely for television journalist of the year, instant polling for ITV News at Ten following the election Leaders Debates for the innovation award, ITV Border’s coverage of the Cumbria shootings for the nations and regions current affairs and news event award, national ITV News coverage of the Cumbria shootings for the home news award, and the Raoul Moat tapes broadcast by ITV Tyne Tees.

ITV Royal Variety Performance Ten-year Deal

The Entertainment Artistes’ Benevolent Fund has Monday granted ITV the broadcast and production rights for the Royal Variety Performance for the next ten years.

ITV1 will become the exclusive UK broadcaster of the Royal Variety Performance until 2021 and ITV Studios will produce coverage of the performance. ITV has a long and successful partnership with the EABF, with the winner of ITV1’s Britain’s Got Talent appearing annually at the Royal Variety Performance.

Laurie Mansfield, Honorary Life President of the EABF, said: “As we approach the hundredth performance of the Royal Variety Show, this agreement marks the beginning of a new era for the Entertainment Artistes’ Benevolent Fund. We can look forward to the future with renewed confidence and financial security for the next ten years. It confirms the successful relationship that the Entertainment Artistes’ Benevolent Fund has with ITV and of course Britain’s Got Talent.”

Elaine Bedell, ITV Director of Entertainment and Comedy said: "Almost a century on from its first appearance, the Royal Variety Performance remains one of the UK's most popular entertainment events. I'm delighted that ITV1 will broadcast the show exclusively for the next ten years."

The Royal Variety Performance, originally the Royal Command Performance, first took place in 1912 in front of His Majesty King George V. First broadcast on ITV, the production of the show was shared between the BBC and ITV from the 1960s, with the channels broadcasting the event on alternate years.

The two most recent performances, shown on ITV1 and BBC ONE, have attracted audiences of 8.8 million and 8.3 million viewers respectively. Under the new deal, ITV Studios will produce coverage of the show for ITV1, working closely with the EABF and ITV Controller of Entertainment, John Kaye Cooper.

ITV Signs Major new Broadcasting and Licensing Deal with Alan Titchmarsh

ITV has announced that it has agreed a major new broadcasting and licensing deal with Alan Titchmarsh and producer Spun Gold Television.

Alan Titchmarsh will not only present a range of daytime and factual programming for ITV1, but will also work with the broadcaster to promote and develop the highly successful Alan Titchmarsh brands across a range of consumer products.

Under a new two-year agreement with Titchmarsh, Spun Gold television and his agent Arlington Enterprises, ITV1 will broadcast four new series of The Alan Titchmarsh Show across 2011 and 2012, as well as a number of peak-time projects that will build on the success of shows such as All The Queen’s Horses and Alan’s Walks of Fame. As part of the deal, The Alan Titchmarsh Show will be filmed, for the first time, at ITV’s The London Studios. In addition, the deal will see the Nation’s favourite gardener bring his unique horticultural skills to ITV1 for the first time in a new peak time gardening and lifestyle series.

Alongside the programming deal, and as part of ITV's strategic plan to maximise value from its programme brands, ITV Broadcasting and ITV Studios Global Entertainment have jointly negotiated a five-year agreement with Spun Gold Television, to promote and develop Alan Titchmarsh’s brand and programme intellectual property across a range of consumer products.

Alan’s relationship with ITV began in 2007 with the launch of The Alan Titchmarsh Show, which has rated strongly over its seven series. Over the last four years, Alan has also presented a variety of peak-time programming for ITV that has seen him interview some of the UK’s most famous people from HRH the Duke of Edinburgh to fashion icon Twiggy.

Alan Titchmarsh said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone involved in broadcasting and one that I relish taking on.
