Iran’s Foreign Ministry has issued a sharp public warning to the United Arab Emirates, calling on Abu Dhabi to halt cooperation with parties hostile to Tehran and asserting the Islamic Republic reserves “all rights to respond accordingly.”

The statement accused the UAE of permitting its territory to be used for attacks against Iran during the recent U.S.-Israeli aggression — a war the ministry described as unprovoked.

“The Islamic Republic has exercised maximum restraint, adopting a responsible approach and out of respect for the collective good of the region and the Muslim community.”
— Iran’s Foreign Ministry

The ministry warned the UAE against continuing “destructive actions in collusion with hostile parties,” cautioning that hosting adversary bases and equipment “carries dangerous consequences for regional peace and stability.”

Tehran also pushed back on Emirati accusations that Iran had targeted the Arab nation, clarifying that retaliatory measures hit only hostile foreign assets on Emirati soil — not the UAE itself. The ministry called the accusations baseless and inconsistent with the UN Charter.

“Iran will not hesitate to take any necessary and appropriate measures to defend its national interests and security.”
— Iran’s Foreign Ministry

The wider Gulf alignment problem

Throughout the conflict from February 28 to April 7, several Gulf and Arab states — including Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Jordan — allowed their territory to be used as launch points for U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian soil. Tehran responded with what it described as at least 100 waves of retaliation against American and Israeli strategic targets across the region.

The new statement signals that Tehran considers the post-war Gulf alignment unfinished business, and that complicity by host nations remains on the record — and on the table.

Türkiye has unveiled its first intercontinental ballistic missile, the Yildirimhan, which officials say will significantly extend the country’s long-range strike capability and serve primarily as a deterrent — but one Ankara has signaled it is willing to use.

The missile was presented at the SAHA 2026 defense industry expo in Istanbul on Tuesday. Developed by state defense contractor ROKETSAN, the Yildirimhan has an estimated range of around 6,000 km (3,720 miles), putting most of Europe, North Africa, and large parts of Asia within reach.

BREAKING — Turkey unveils intercontinental ballistic missile Yildirimhan with 6,000KM range during SAHA arms expo.

Developed by Turkish Defense Ministry pic.twitter.com/JyEJ95t9X2
— Ragıp Soylu (@ragipsoylu) May 5, 2026

Defense Minister Yasar Guler described the system as the country’s longest-range missile to date and its first liquid-fuel design capable of hypersonic flight. Speaking at the unveiling, he said the ICBM represents a “major step” in Türkiye’s defense capabilities.

“If we have to use it, no one should doubt that we will do so without hesitation, and in the most effective way.”
— Defense Minister Yasar Guler

Specifications

Range: 6,000 km (3,720 miles)

Speed: Mach 9–25 (hypersonic)

Fuel: Liquid Nitrogen Tetroxide (N₂O₄)

Propulsion: 4 rocket thrust motors

Developer: ROKETSAN

A rapidly expanding defense industry

Guler said the national defense industry has sharply increased production capacity, and that Turkish military systems have proven themselves in conflict zones across Syria, Iraq, Libya, and the South Caucasus. He claimed locally built platforms — developed to NATO standards at lower cost — are directly affecting the military capabilities of foreign armies, and that Türkiye has transitioned from an import-dependent buyer to a nation that “designs, produces and exports its own systems.”

In recent years Ankara has fielded combat drones, cruise missiles, and ground-based systems, with Bayraktar TB2 strikes shaping conflicts from eastern Europe to North Africa.

Timing: post-Iran war

The unveiling lands during heightened Middle Eastern tensions following the US-Israeli war on Iran that began in late February. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reportedly acknowledged that the Iran conflict gave Ankara an added incentive to accelerate domestic weapons and air-defense production — a reading that places the Yildirimhan as much in dialogue with Tel Aviv and Washington as with Tehran or Damascus.

Abuja – President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have declared their assets, as required by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Code of Conduct Bureau on Friday acknowledged the submission of President Buhari’s and Vice President Osinbajo’s assets declaration forms submitted separately on May 28.

The Citizens Anti-Corruption Network (CAN) wishes to call on the President Mohammed Buhari to be weary of some persons both within and outside his new government whose intentions are now to explore the anti-corruption stance of his government to blackmail perceived political opponents especially public officials who served in the previous administration in the country.

We are concerned about the recent attempts by some persons to use the EFCC through frivolous petitions as it was the case in the past for political purposes, a practice that had undermined the credibility of the anti-corruption commission.

We must remind President Buhari that Nigerians are aware that his anti-corruption campaign is a genuine one and therefore the case for the anti-corruption agency remains strong.

However, the perceived use of the EFCC by the executive or some persons around the government to muzzle or intimidate its real or perceived opponents into submission is a worrisome development that has diminished public confidence in the EFCC and raised questions about the government’s commitment to due process, accountability and transparency.

We therefore call on the President Mohammadu Buhari to strengthen the EFCC and insulate it from political control, especially by those who seek to use the commission as a weapon of intimidation and blackmail targeted at political opponents.

While assuring the President of our organization’s support in mobilizing the citizens towards ensuring the culture of accountability in all spheres of our society, we wish to restate our commitment to serving as watchdogs in checkmating our leaders whenever attempts are made in deviating from those practices that will strengthen our democracy.

Signed.

July 11, 2013

Following the revelations of global surveillance programs by the US National Security Agency (NSA), Russia has decided to resort to the traditional method of typewriting documents to avert the theft of classified information.

It is more than a month since Edward Snowden, a former contractor at the US agency, revealed to the world that the NSA is spying on Americans and the citizens of other countries through phones and the Internet.

The leaked documents also showed that NSA spies based in Britain intercepted the top-secret communications of the then Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, during his visit to Britain for the G20 summit in London in 2009.

The NSA paper was entitled: “Russian Leadership Communications in support of President Dmitry Medvedev at the G20 summit in London – Intercept at Menwith Hill station.”

Three years ago, Julian Assange, the founder of the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks, shocked the world by publishing hundreds of thousands of classified American documents.

“After the scandal with the circulation of classified documents by Wikileaks, the revelations made by Edward Snowden and reports that [Prime Minister] Dmitry Medvedev’s phone was tapped during his visit to the G-20 summit in London, it has been decided to expand the use of paper documents,” a Russian official has told Izvestia, a Russian newspaper.

According to a tender posted on the government’s procurement website, the Russian government has approved $15,000 for the purchase of typewriters, ribbons and correction tape to be used by the Federal Protection Service-Russia’s equivalent of the U.S. Secret Service-which guards Russian officials, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Each typewriting machine has a unique handwriting which makes it easy to trace the document to its source, reports say.

resident Muhammadu Buhari will be working from home after a medical leave in London because rats wreaked havoc in his office while he was away, a spokesman claimed on Tuesday.

President Buhari resumed work on Monday morning but reports were emerging on Monday evening that it might be best he throws in the towel and travels back for more treatment.

Spokesman Garba Shehu said rats destroyed the President’s office and it needs to be fixed.

Mr. Buhari spent more than 100 days abroad, treating himself, and rumours quickly emerged that he was getting worse, and even at some point, on life support.

But, the President returned on Saturday and on Monday he addressed the nation in a brief broadcast.

However, reports later claimed that those who saw him at the Presidential palace quickly realized things had not improved.

May 6, 2013

NewsRescue- It is necessary to constructively discuss the Nigerian government’s failure in tackling the Boko Haram insurgency in the country’s North Eastern extremes.

To appreciate the problems and the fact that the Nigerian government is deliberately or due to lack of wherewithal, not addressing them, we will try to give a brief intelligence description of the peculiarity of the problem and the worrisome method of government address, as well as proffer urgent solutions.

Several Nigerian figures have attacked the president of Nigeria, but very few alternative solutions have been put forth by anyone. Inflammatory statements have been carelessly made that could lead the country down the unnecessary path of sectarian strife.

What is the strategic objective of the president of Nigeria in combating terrorism?
Hope is not a strategy.

As challenging as the Boko Haram crisis is in Nigeria, it could present a unique opportunity for over arching nation building, and development of its security institutions. Indeed it should. Post 911 the United States has developed security advancement that not only protect the nation but are marketable. Nigeria is yet to make any notable progress beyond responding to the day-to-day tactical problems posed by Boko Haram.

Dimensions of Boko Haram

To appreciate the situation and the necessary aspects of dealing with a conflict of this nature, it is essential to understand the tactical and operational different forms of Boko Haram, and recognize how to appropriately recognize and deal with each:

Terrorists – These are a hidden group of connected individuals, who operate infrequently with primary objective – triggering maximal causality linked fear by aiming at peoples sensibilities and sensitivities. These could be economic centers, like the World Trade Center, Safety, Religious sanctuaries and the like. Boko Haram in its earlier days operated more as terrorists, but today, they have metamorphosed into other compartments due to a failure of their terrorism sparking the desired response of triggering sectarian strife. Their attacks at Churches only led to a unified response from Muslims and Christians in North Nigeria and greater cooperation from both parties. At this turn in events, the fanatical terrorist brand of Boko Haram waned out as it was obvious that they could not gain needed local support and finance to sustain their venture and successfully trigger religio-ethnic wars. Several of their political sponsors also got arrested and Boko had to realign.

Insurgency – An insurgency is an armed rebellion against a constituted authority. Boko Haram has fluttered in and out of being an insurgency. Being an insurgency will mean a dedicated cause to upset the Nigerian government without being organized enough to have defined principles. Boko Haram appears particularly disinterested in upsetting the government. Rather on may occasions they have impressed on the public their respect for the government of Nigeria. On a particular occasion, Boko Haram went as far as bombing media houses for disseminating what they called, a false message of their intent to attack the president. Boko Haram were happy to see the Mali crises and in that event, their rapid response against the international effort was clear and defined. They attacked Nigerian military buses and kidnapped French hostages. These actions show a global mission, primary foreign alliance, foreign role and mission as compared to a Nigerian directed insurgent mission. Boko appears highly capital driven and chaos loving more than any other association.

Rebel group – As Boko Haram progressively undergoes metamorphosis, the group is feeling more comfortable operating as a non-specific, for-hire, and cash motivated rebellious group. Similar to the rebel groups of Central Africa. Boko Haram is seeing non specific rebellion as a means of employment and maintenance. But to operate as a rebel group as against operating as terrorists, the group requires greater roaming area and camping territory and a defined focus. This rebel force operates primarily from Nigeria’s borders and neighboring countries, leading incursions into Nigeria to attack and then retreat. Boko Haram fits the profile of aspiring rebels who lack the belligerence to fulfill the criteria to be defined as true rebels.

The lack of clarity of Boko Haram’s definition probably explains the refusal of the United States classifying Boko Haram as terrorists or a rebellion. Having to revise classifications as occurred with Mandela’s ANC youth wing gives an understanding of United States’ hesitations these days. An opening for Blackmail – The Western world reserves the right to in the future classify Boko Haram as a worthwhile rebellion to be armed and defended against Nigeria. The world is basically waiting for Boko Haram to decide what space it wishes to occupy, either deciding to become rebels, insurgents or only terrorists. Boko Haram lacks the organization and character to settle for a position because this quickly subjects them to typical methods used to handle each of these groups. We however believe Boko Haram needs to be dealt with as aspiring rebels, seeking maturation via religious and political association.

How is Nigeria reading and dealing with this threat?

[slideshow_deploy id=’16966′]

Nigeria is still dealing with Boko Haram purely as a terrorist threat. In dealing with a terrorist threat, telephone communications, networks and sponsors will be aggressively pursued. The Nigerian security forces work as a counter-terrorism operation against what has turned into a potential rebel war. Security is gathered from captured operatives to access and capture middle class Boko Haram members. The top sponsors of the Boko Haram project live in immunity in Nigeria and the aspiring rebel forces are also left to operate with impunity.

When we look at the recent happenings in Borno, we see raids, typical of rebels. The murder of General Shuwa, the capture of French citizens, the kidnapping of Ali Shetimma Mongonu, the invasion of Baga and the beheading of two Islamic clerics in Ngamdu, border town between Borno and Yobe States this May have been conducted in rebel-like formation, with dashes into the community and assassinations or carting away of hostages back into hide-outs, usually across the borders.

When we examine the occurrence in Baga, we see a situation where rebel invaders enter a town and the Nigerian Joint Task Force (JTF) wage a conventional war against a handful of rebels in a populated city. Such an operation does not take into consideration the type of enemy they are engaging against and the battle field. Civilian and property causalities were numerous as we were all aware. The result was at best 25 terrorist deaths with hundreds of civilian lives lost. Boko Haram subsequently moved to another town in Adamawa state to prompt a likewise decimation of the civilian population. Reportedly they moved in several Hilux buses.

RELATED: Nigeria: Boko Haram ‘Taking Over Northern Borno State’

DailyTrust, 20 April 2013- Many local governments areas in northern Borno and other parts of the state are gradually coming under the control of members of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah Lid Da’awati Wal Jihad, also known as Boko Haram, Weekly Trust heard yesterday.

The northern part of Borno shares international borders with Cameroon, Niger and Chad republics and comprises Marte, Magumeri, Mobbar, Gubio, Guzamala, Abadam, Kukawa, Kaga, Nganzai and Monguno Local Government Areas.

Weekly Trust reports that very few attacks take place in Damboa, Chibok, Biu and Gwoza Local Government Areas in the southern part of the state while Hawul, Bayo, Kwaya Kusar, Askira/Uba and Shani have remained relatively peaceful.

Most government officials and civil servants had fled most of these areas except Damasak. Bama and some parts of Konduga Local Government Area, both in the central part of the state, are also coming under the control of the sect members who had chased away government officials and civil servants, it was learnt.

Weekly Trust also learnt that in Marte Local Government, the sect members control most villages and openly organize public preaching in village market in Krenuwa, the hometown of the current Secretary to the State Government Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda, who is a member of the Presidential Amnesty Committee. …

It was also learnt that the sect members are acquiring so many vehicles, in military colours and mounting guns on them. Three brand new hilux vans belonging to the Chad Basin were also reportedly snatched by gunmen. Read more…

The current government approach fails to secure life in the North east, but reacts in a counter threat approach that systematically depletes the population. Unreported by the media is the mass exodus of the indigenous North eastern population. Borno state is like a ghost state. Nigerians have emigrated to Chad, Niger and neighboring nations, as well as south within Nigeria, out of the troubled zones.

Not unusually for a Nigeria abound with distrust, certain security agents are of the belief that the security services sets up appointments with Boko Haram on the next village or city to jointly decimate.

So long as Nigeria continues tackling this rebellious cross-border and inter-state war with a reactionary approach, we can predict a decimation of the north eastern population and a progressive Boko Haram take-over of that region of the North with far reaching consequences for the entire country.

What Nigeria should do

Nigeria needs to immediately contain the situation. Nigeria does not have an armed forces. To secure life in the North, Nigeria needs to pull a size-able amount of its armed forces to this region with exigency.

Without question, the entire Nigerians security apparatus needs complete overhaul. Our armed forces needs urgent training in combat. Chadian forces are better trained than Nigeria’s military as has been noticed with their operations under the UN in Mali. In line of this, we recommend an agreement with Chad due to proximity, proven experience and a cultural understanding of the region, to assist in combating the terrorist threat.

Nigeria is at War and a state of emergency should have been declared and maintained in Borno

An amnesty is out of the question for attackers who are 90% foreign, linked to unknown foreign interests and sponsors and based with their training camps primarily outside Nigeria’s borders.

The military have no role operating within cities. Nigeria’s military lacks the training for such combat and have proven incapable of such endeavor. The Baga crises with thousands of houses burned has been linked to the armed forces using “tracer” bullets, which light their paths and set their targets on fire. These are tools for battle-ground wars and not inter-city engagement.

For peculiar reasons, Nigeria’s government is seemingly taking advantage of the insecurity to perpetrate a “crushing response,” resulting in alienation of the locals, crippling of the economy and systematic depletion of the population.

Border patrol must be seriously addressed by joint Nigeria-Cameroon and Nigerien forces and cooperation. The border is where our military should be fully engaged. NewsRescue‘s April 12th article details the Boko Haram threat from Nigeria’s porous borders.

Nigeria must mobilize air defenses. These include copters and drones, surveillance drones. The cost for these necessary updates to anti- terror equipment is not out of reach. The ScanEagle surveillance drone for instance is relatively cheap, just $100,000 per unit. Nigeria should immediately purchase several low cost drones and operate these in the region, backed up by a swift military force and air assailant setup. Boko Haram must be swiftly decimated by a full force comprehensive security operation. The current approach converts what can be crushed with proper investment and approach into a prolonged, intractable limitless catastrophe.

Citizens are not being protected in the North east. There must be urgent update in policing in the region. Mobile police units must be drafted to the North East for increased stop and search and rapid response in the event of terror. Till Boko Haram is contained, we must have a police presence in this region of at least 1 security man to every 100 citizens. What obtains now is less than 100 police per 100,000. Filing this gap can be via properly trained and equipped armed civilian vigilantes.

Boko Haram should serve as an opportunity for security advancement in Nigeria, which goes beyond terrorism and will setup Nigeria to now be capable to solve murders and other security crisis we have been inept at.

Perhaps Nigeria is too large for the government to control and secure. If the government can not secure the North eastern region, it needs to clear out its citizens and give-up the regions as “lost to the rebellious forces.”

We expect the Jonathan administration to step up to the plate and act properly and seriously to secure the country’s citizens.

ARREST OF BEROM ATTACKERS:
PLATEAU STATE GOVT UNHAPPY WITH STF, BEROM WOMEN STAGE PROTEST IN DU

Following the press conference yesterday in which the Special Task Force (STF) paraded Berom suspects who were arrested as they were staging an attack on the mining settlement of Bisici Tuesday night, officials of the Plateau State government have expressed their disappointment with the STF for allowing the news of the arrest “to leak out to the public.” A number of newspapers have carried the story of the arrest which happened around Du, the governor’s home village.

According to an Abuja based newspaper, Blueprint (10 January 2013), “the soldiers stated that the suspected attackers, who were said to be of the Berom tribe, were in the area and shooting sporadically around Du, Bisici, and Shenabe villages until a distress call made to the STF by members of the Bisici community of Jos South local government area led to the arrest of the suspects.

“Speaking to reporters on the incident at the STF headquarters in Jos yesterday while parading the suspects, the media and information officer of the task force, Captain Salisu Mustafa, said, “The suspects were arrested in four vehicles that include a Vento with registration number AH 454 BLD Plateau; Victra, AA 87 MLF Katsina; Mercedes Benz, EC 210 LND Lagos, and Honda, AG 718 Plateau.”

“He stated that an AK-47 rifle, an FN rifle, a submachine gun, a locally made short revolver, a locally made revolver, a bayonet, five handsets, Plateau State Polytechnic student identity card, a staff ID card of the Plateau State Basic Education Board, among other items, were recovered.

Though the news conference was attended by reporters from different media organization and the story of the attackers was reported in the local Nigeria Television Authority broadcast yesterday evening, the state owned Plateau Radio and Television decided not to air it because, as an insider put it, “it will cast the state government in bad image.”

However, in its 5pm news bulletin this evening, the state owned Plateau FM aired a story of the peaceful protest staged by women in Du district this morning demanding for the release of the armed youths. A Berom woman who spoke in Hausa was heard in the bulletin, saying, “Our youths went out to defend us when our village was attacked. Now they are arrested for defending themselves.”

The state government is trying hard to convince the STF that the arrested militants are members of its vigilante group. However, a source in the STF retorted that how could a vigilante group be armed with submachine gun, AK-47 and use passenger vehicles like Mercedes and Honda for its operations? This guys were caught red handed and they will face the music.”

A member of the Bisici community, Malam Yakubu Usaini, was reported by Blueprint as saying: “The Beroms have been trying to raid the Bisici community for long and we just heard them shooting on Tuesday night. We suspected it would happen because they have been calling for the removal of a military roadblock in the area… We know some of those arrested; there is even a community leader known as Mai Anguwa Akwan.”

Observers of the Jos crisis are sceptical on whether the STF would not bulge to the pressure from the state government given the way the government has succeeded in the past to frustrate all efforts at prosecuting Berom militants who were caught with even serious crimes like killing of unarmed civilians on federal highways. If the STF stick to its guns in this case, it will go along way to prove a semblance of impartiality in its peace keeping assignment on the Plateau.

The STF has for sometime been having some gun battles with Berom militants who are alleged to be training at Gyel, a village outside Bukuru from where rockets were fired in early August last year. On 31 December 2012, for example, there were exchange of fire between STF personnel and some Berom militants at Gyel Later in the day, an SMS was circulated claiming that the exchange was between STF and some Fulani who came to invade the village. On both occasions, the STF has not reported arresting anyone.

Meanwhile, Jos and its environs remain peaceful with businesses going on as usual.
