Hey there guys, how are we doing today? Trust the week’s been very good. Well, on my side here, it’s been quite terrible, I fell terribly sick earlier this week and that was why I was unable to post this editorial earlier as planned But thanks to God, I’m doing very well alright now:-D

So before we go into today’s deal, I’ll like to specially congratulate Mr. Rilwan Rotinwa for winning the photo contest from my last editorial on my personal style – Streetstyle. He was able to pull off the best replica I got And here’s the picture below

Now to today’s business (drum-rolls) Lol. THE PINK HUE featuring Pierre Cardin and DapMod and Infamous Shoes. It’s more of a “risk – worth – taking – thingy” lol.

From time, the color Pink, has been associated with the feminine gender and avoided by a lot of guys. Usually a man’s perception for the colour pink is that it’s a girly colour. First of all, let’s get it right; there is no such thing as a girly colour or manly colour. True fashion never discriminates against any gender and this is why anyone can choose to wear a colour of their choice.

In this editorial, I decided to go all Bold with the Colour Pink, something an average guy would not do on a normal day. I styled this casual look with a Pierre Cardin shirt, a brown H&M Trousers which corroborated and brightened the effect of the Pink Hue. Of course, I could have decided to to use a black trouser which would have reduced the effect of the Pink Splendor, but I decided to stay on the Bold Side for a risky reward

Styling this casual look took me to getting lighter colours to dress with in order to corroborate the Pink effect. Notice the socks??? They’re also Pink lol

The colour pink, from my own research, has no enemy, it actually goes with every skin color, well, depending on the tone of pink you’re wearing though. Pink varies in different temperatures from Spanish Pink, to Persian Pink, to Carnation Pink, to Watermelon Pink, to Fuchsia Pink, to Baby Pink, just to mention a few…

First Photos Of Jupiter's Poles Captured By Juno

That image is just one of the first of many to come from Juno, a NASA spacecraft that entered the gas giant’s orbit in July. It’s set to make at least 35 more revolutions around the planet from the north pole to the south, and in the process, hopefully unlock some of its mysteries.

It’s off to a good start. This first view of Jupiter’s north pole "looks like nothing we have seen or imagined before," Scott Bolton, NASA’s principal investigator of Juno, said in a press statement.

He continued:

It’s bluer in color up there than other parts of the planet, and there are a lot of storms. There is no sign of the latitudinal bands or zone and belts that we are used to -- this image is hardly recognizable as Jupiter. We’re seeing signs that the clouds have shadows, possibly indicating that the clouds are at a higher altitude than other features.

Juno also sent back this infrared image of the planet’s south pole, another first for science. This image reveals the contours of Jupiter’s aurora, which is the interaction of its magnetic field with its atmosphere.

"These first infrared views of Jupiter’s north and south poles are revealing warm and hot spots that have never been seen before," Alberto Adriani, an Italian scientist studying data from Juno’s infrared camera, said in a press statement. "And while we knew that the first-ever infrared views of Jupiter's south pole could reveal the planet's southern aurora, we were amazed to see it for the first time."

President Muhammadu Buhari commended the Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of social networking website, Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, for sharing his wealth of knowledge with Nigerian youths, and inspiring a new generation of entrepreneurs.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke while granting audience to Zuckerberg at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Buhari said the various meetings held with Nigerian youths since his arrival in the country were most timely as the country was already exploring opportunities to spur development through entrepreneurship.

The President noted that the simplicity and magnanimity of the entrepreneur, who is among the world’s richest men, had also challenged the culture of lavish wealth display and impulsive spending that had become peculiar to Nigerians.

“In our culture, we are not used to seeing successful people appear like you. We are not used to seeing successful people jogging and sweating on the streets.

“We are more used to seeing successful people in air-conditioned places. We are happy you are well-off and simple enough to always share,” he said.

In his remarks, Zuckerberg said he was impressed by the interest, energy and entrepreneurial spirit displayed by young Nigerians in all the ICT camps that he had visited.

“I was highly impressed by the talent of the youths in the Co-creation Hub in Yaba. I was blown away by their talent and the level of energy that I saw,’’ he said.

Zuckerberg added that he is in the country to promote the penetration of “fast and cheap” internet connectivity, Express-wifi, that would help people create online businesses and reduce poverty held with Nigerian youths since his arrival in the country, were most timely as the country was already exploring opportunities to spur development through entrepreneurship.

Yaya Toure Removed From Man City Champions League Group Squad

Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure will play no part in Manchester City’s Champions League group stage matches after being left out of the squad named on Friday by Man City coach Pep Guardiola.

The 33-year-old’s sole appearance for City this season has been in the 1-0 victory over Romanian outfit Steaua Bucharest in the second leg of the Champions League play-offs.

However, manager Pep Guardiola, who coached him at Barcelona and where Toure won the Champions League, two league titles and a Spanish Cup, has deemed him surplus to requirements for the group stage.

City could not include more than 17 non-homegrown players in their Champions League squad and Guardiola still has 18 at his disposal, despite four foreign internationals, Frenchmen Samir Nasri and Eliaquim Mangala among them, leaving before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

Teams can name up to 25 players in their Champions League squad but City’s lack of homegrown players meant they were only permitted to name a squad of 21.

Alien Life: Fiction Becoming A Reality?

Alien life has fascinated humans since our own awareness that such a thing could exist. And with the recent discovery of an Earth-Like planet around a star in our cosmic backyard, tantalizing new questions are being raised about the possibility of finding life elsewhere in the universe.

NASA's Kepler mission has thus far found thousands of exo-planets, of which approximately 40 are believed to be in or near the "Goldilocks Zone" — a just-right spot in orbit around a star where it's neither too hot nor too cold to support life as we know it. Now, scientists have found such a planet orbiting a star down our own cosmic "block" — a possible rocky planet around Proxima Centauri, our closest star. They have christened it Proxima b.

Proxima Centauri is a mere 4.22 light-years away from Earth. It is a red dwarf, which is the fate that awaits our own sun in about 4 billion years. Measurements indicate that Proxima b is a rocky planet, just slightly larger than Earth, orbiting the star at the right distance to be able to support liquid water on its surface, and thus perhaps life.

I believe that there is life all over our universe, since it would be the height of arrogance to think that we are alone. Moreover, I believe that at some point, life on Earth will die out, either from natural causes, or from our own doing. To me, this is a natural progression, just like individual lives on our planet. Unlike many people, including several of my astronaut colleagues, I don't think that technology will save us. Indeed, there are strong arguments that after enabling life to thrive, technology is now hastening our collective demise. But that discussion is for another time.

Life is always starting in some parts of the universe at the same time that it is dying out in others. We don't know about each other, simply because the distances are so vast. To send a spacecraft even just to our next-door neighbor Proxima Centauri, using humans currents travel technology, would take almost 80,000 years. So, we won't easily find evidence of alien life around another star, especially those that are hundreds of millions of light-years away, or more.

Samsung Recalling Note 7 smartphones due to exploding issue

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 on Aug. 19 to rave reviews, but after just a few weeks on the market, the world’s most popular smartphone maker is now halting sales of the handset and issuing a global recall following reports that it can catch fire or explode during charging.

In a statement about the matter, Samsung said it is “committed to producing the highest quality products and we take every incident report from our valued customers very seriously.”

According to the Samsung, 35 cases of battery issues have been reported globally since Sept. 1. Now the company is working with its suppliers to determine which handsets could be affected by the batteries.

“Because our customers’ safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have stopped sales of the Galaxy Note7,” a company spokesperson said. “For customers who already have Galaxy Note7 devices, we will voluntarily replace their current device with a new one over the coming weeks.”

For US customers who already purchased a Note7, Samsung said it is working with its carrier partners to “announce the details of the U.S. product exchange program as soon as today.”

The battery issue couldn’t have come at a worse time for Samsung. The company was riding a wave of excitement following the release of its Galaxy S7 and hoped to continue that positive sales momentum into the fall with the Note7. Now, however, the company will have to recall the Note7, putting a dent in its profits and potentially shaking consumer confidence in the brand.

It doesn’t help matters that Apple is expected to announce its iPhone 7 and 7 Plus during a major press event on Sept. 7. As a result, consumers could simply decide to abandon plans to purchase a Samsung device in favor of an iPhone.

Samsung already began to see how the battery problem could impact its bottom line on Sept. 1 when it saw its market value cut by $7 billion. A recall, however, could prove far worse for the company. Here is Samsung's full statement.

"In response to recently reported cases of the new Galaxy Note7, we conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue. To date (as of September 1) there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally and we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. 300 Level Micro-Biology UNILAG Student,Dies From Suicide Attempt After Struggle To Save His Life.

Eniola Jacobs,a microbiology 300 level student of the University of Lagos,was rushed to LUTH earlier today, all in an effort to preserve his Life, after taking in an alarming amount of the locally made insecticide “Sniper”to end his young life.
It is not exactly clear why he did this,but the reason could be that he might have been suffering from severe depression. But we can’t say yet what caused the depression in the 1st place.

He’s been recently hospitalized. His parents have been reached thanks to the student union and association of the school but unfortunately,he passed away in the early hours of today.
May the Lord forgive his soul,and please anybody reading this post who is suffering from depression,remember "Suicide doesn’t end the chances of life getting worse, it eliminates the possibility of it ever getting any better". Try to live your life to the fullest. No matter how terrible your situation is,it will always get better overtime. R.I.P, Eniola Jacobs.

Court rules that monkeys can’t own copyright to selfie pics

A macaque monkey who took now-famous selfie photographs cannot be declared the copyright owner of the photos, a federal judge said Wednesday.
Herald & Review news reported that US District Judge, William Orrick, said in federal court in San Francisco that “while Congress and the president can extend the protection of law to animals as well as humans, there is no indication that they did so in the Copyright Act.”
The lawsuit filed last year by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sought a court order allowing PETA to represent the monkey and let it to administer all proceeds from the photos for the benefit of the monkey, which it identified as 6-year-old Naruto, and other crested macaques living in a reserve on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

The photos were taken during a 2011 trip to Sulawesi with an unattended camera owned by British nature photographer David Slater, who asked the court to dismiss the case. Slater says the British copyright obtained for the photos by his company, Wildlife Personalities Ltd., should be honored worldwide.
PETA sued Slater and his San Francisco-based self-publishing company Blurb, which published a book called “Wildlife Personalities” that includes the “monkey selfie” photos.

The photos have been widely distributed elsewhere by outlets, including Wikipedia, which contend that no one owns the copyright to the images because they were taken by an animal, not a person.

Slater described himself as a nature photographer who is deeply concerned about animal welfare in court documents and said it should up to the U.S. Congress and not a federal court to decide whether copyright law applies to non-human animals.
Jeff Kerr, general counsel for PETA, said the organization will continue fighting for the monkey’s rights.
“Despite this setback, legal history was made today because we argued to a federal court why Naruto should be the owner of the copyright rather than been seen as a piece of property himself,” Kerr said. “This case is also exposing the hypocrisy of those who exploit animals for their own gain.”

Scientists Discover Potential Cure For Cancer

Scientists have discovered potential cure for nine out of 10 types of cancer, using protein created from malaria parasite.
A team of Danish and Canadian scientists stumbled across the breakthrough while hunting for a weapon to fight malaria in pregnant women.
Essentially, their study, published in the journal Cancer Cell and reported by DailyMailUK online, revealed that armed malaria proteins could kill cancer.
Raising hopes of a genuine medical treatment for the disease, the researchers say they hope to begin human trials within the next four years.

Malaria expert, Prof. Ali Salanti, from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark revealed that the carbohydrate that the malaria parasite attaches itself to in the placenta of pregnant women is identical to a carbohydrate found in cancer cells.
In the laboratory, his team has created a protein that the malaria parasite uses to adhere to the placenta, and they’ve added a toxin. This combination of malaria protein and toxin seeks out the cancer cells, before being absorbed by the diseased cells. The toxin is then released inside, triggering a process, which kills the cancer cells.
Salanti, working in collaboration with cancer researcher, Dr. Mads Daugaard, from the University of Columbia, has observed the process in cell cultures and in mice with cancer.
Professor Salanti said: “For decades, scientists have been searching for similarities between the growth of a placenta and a tumour.
“The placenta is an organ, which within a few months grows from only a few cells into an organ weighing approximately two pounds, and it provides the embryo with oxygen and nourishment in a relatively foreign environment.
“In a manner of speaking, tumours do much the same. They grow aggressively in a relatively foreign environment.” Salanti and his team are now testing a vaccine against malaria in humans.
It was in connection with the development of this new drug, that he made the discovery that the carbohydrate in the placenta was also present in cancer tumours.
Upon making the discovery, Salanti immediately contacted his former student, and now cancer researcher, Daugaard, who is head of the Laboratory of Molecular Pathology at the Vancover Prostate Cancer at UBC.
Working together, the two groups of scientists have generated findings, which they hope will provide the basis for a drug to fight cancer.
Salanti said: “We examined the carbohydrate’s function. In the placenta, it helps ensure fast growth. Our experiments showed that it was the same in cancer tumours.
“We combined the malaria parasite with cancer cells and the parasite reacted to the cancer cells as if they were a placenta and attached itself.”
The two groups of researchers have tested thousands of samples from brain tumours to leukaemias, and a general picture has emerged.
Their findings indicate that the malaria protein is able to attack more than 90 per cent of all human tumours: With non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the treated mice’s tumours were about a quarter the size of the tumours in a control group; with prostate cancer, the tumours disappeared in two of the six treated mice a month after receiving the first dose; and with metastatic bone cancer, five out of six of the treated mice were alive after almost eight weeks, compared to no mice in the control group.
Duagaard said: “We have separated the malaria protein, which attaches itself to the carbohydrate and then added a toxin. By conducting tests on mice, we have been able to show that the combination of protein and toxin kill the cancer cells.”
Dr. Thomas Mandel Clausen, a PhD student involved with the project for the last two years, added: “It appears that the malaria protein attaches itself to the tumour without any significant attachment to other tissue. And the mice that were given doses of protein and toxin showed far higher survival rates than the untreated mice. We have seen that three doses can arrest growth in a tumour and even make it shrink.”
Ironically, the only drawback appears to be the fact the treatment would not be available for pregnant women.
Salanti said: “Expressed in popular terms, the toxin will believe that the placenta is a tumour and kill it, in exactly the same way it will believe that the tumour is a placenta.”
In collaboration with the scientists behind the discovery, the University of Copenhagen has created a biotech company, VAR2pharmaceuticals to drive the clinical development forward.
Salanti, Daugaard and their teams are now working towards being able to conduct tests on humans.
“The earliest possible test scenario is in four years time,” Salanti revealed. He added: “The biggest questions are whether it’ll work in the human body, and if the human body can tolerate the doses needed without developing side effects

Nasa Has Three Stage Plans For Manned Mars Mission

Amidst the announcements of water ice on Pluto and advancements in making Martian travel safer this week, NASA also quietly unveiled an incredibly detailed, 36-page report outlining its plan to send humans to Mars. Leaving no stone unturned, the report lays out a blueprint for accomplishing three major steps in NASA’s journey to Mars, one of which called “Earth Independent” meaning it intends to send people to Mars to stay. For good. I apologize in advance for the Drake reference but, what a time to be alive, huh?

Phase one, or “Earth Reliant” as NASA calls it, kicks off the agency’s official blueprint for reaching Mars. During this phase —which, unsurprisingly, has already started— the agency intends to make use of the International Space Station to participate in a series of research projects. By testing life support systems, 3D printing modules, and the general effect of spending extended amounts of time in space, NASA hopes to compile the data necessary to begin preparing for an actual long-haul mission to Mars. American astronaut Scott Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko are currently participating in phase one, analyzing the effects of spending one year in space.

The next step in NASA’s plan, called “Proving Ground,” aims to expand testing and research beyond low-Earth orbit. Tests throughout this phase include complex deep space operations which primarily concern operating in cislunar space — i.e. the area around the moon which provides stable staging orbits. Though this phase ramps up the supposed difficulty pertaining to living and working in space, NASA says the astronauts still have the ability to return to Earth in a matter of days during the operation. NASA is already hard at work on this phase, building the Space Launch System rocket, as well as the Orion spacecraft, which are currently on track to fly by the end of this decade.

“NASA’s strategy connects near-term activities and capability development to the journey to Mars and a future with a sustainable human presence in deep space,” associate administrator for Human Exploration and Operations William Gerstenmaier says. “This strategy charts a course toward horizon goals, while delivering near-term benefits, and defining a resilient architecture that can accommodate budgetary changes, political priorities, new scientific discoveries, technological breakthroughs, and evolving partnerships.”

NASA’s third and final stage is the aforementioned “Earth Independent” phase. By combining the research and development of the previous two phases, the agency hopes to send astronauts to the general vicinity of the red planet. It first plans on sending humans to either the low-orbit area of Mars or to one of Mars’ moons, before eventually descending onto the planet’s surface. While it doesn’t plan on reaching this phase until the 2030s, NASA already has its sights set on the revolutionary advances humans have the ability to make on Mars as opposed to relying on just robotic rovers.

In the report, NASA also makes it clear it doesn’t intend on embarking on this massive adventure alone. By stressing the importance of collaboration between the agency and its partners, it hopes to make the journey to Mars a “global achievement” which signifies a massive shift in the development of humanity. With the European Space Agency already on board and lending its hand with the Orion spacecraft, the door remains open for countries like China, Japan, and Russia to join in on this unprecedented mission.

Obviously a trip to Mars (no matter how long it takes) comes with its fair share of pitfalls and risks. NASA acknowledges it needs to develop a new and reliable way for astronauts to function and work in space, while also manufacturing an innovative and powerful way to actually get to Mars. Though the first two phases intend to solve all the risks inherent to deep space travel, the agency understands a mission of this magnitude requires an incredible amount of manpower and (of course) funding. Currently, NASA has roughly $4 billion to spend each year on the development of necessary technology with another $4 billion per year expected once the ISS retires.

A California man charged with murdering his mother told police that killing her and desecrating her body felt “good,” according to reports.

Omar Pettigen, 31, allegedly used a tomahawk that hung on the wall of his 64-year-old mother’s Monroe apartment to strike her on the head before shooting her in the back at least seven times and cutting open her chest to pick up her heart, according to court documents obtained by The New York Daily News.

He put the heart back in Nailah Pettigen’s body and then reportedly masturbated because “he needed to be with himself and needed a release after the event,” the documents apparently said.

Omar Pettigen allegedly said the gruesome act felt “good” when he was arrested north of Oakland on Sunday, SFgate.com wrote.

His arrest came after police discovered the woman’s body in her blood-soaked bedroom, according to the News. They were performing a welfare check on the behest of Nailah Pettigen’s ex-husband.

The former American High School math teacher “appeared to have been disemboweled,” the News wrote, noting she had been cut from her neck down to her cervix.

Omar Pettigen allegedly told detectives he comitted the act because his mother was killing herself with prescription painkillers, which he said she had become addicted to after hip and knee problems as well as surgery, the News wrote.

He allegeldy told detectives that his mother was yelling at him and during the argument, she pointed a gun at him, which prompted him to grab a hammer off the bedroom wall to knock the gun out of her hand, SFGate.com wrote. He left the room and returned with the tomahawk.

He allegedly told police that after the gruesome killing, he left the home, had a few beers with friends and booked an airline ticket for Chicago, the News reported.

Police said Omar Pettigen “did not show any signs of remorse,” the News said.

“I asked how he felt about his actions and he said good,” a detective reportedly wrote.

Family members that the detective spoke with said the mother and son had not been getting along, going on to allegedly say "it is well known that the family has seen a change in Omar since he has returned from Morocco several months prior to the murder," the News reported.

He was arraigned Tuesday on charges of murder and desecration of human remains and was ordered held without bail, the News wrote.

That court appearance came one day after a candle light vigil was held by loved ones, including her former students and friends.

“Great work. My niece was devastated by me sharing this news about her former teacher,” Tiffany Brooks-Dumont wrote on the Fremont Police Department's Facebook page after the news of Omar Pettigen’s arrest was released.

Many on social media seemed stunned that Omar Pettigen was charged with his mother’s murder.

"I always knew Omar to be a kind person, and have known him for over 10 years when we first met working at Michaels craft stores at the HUB. His mother was a wonderful person and I always thought them to be close. This is beyond disturbing and heartbreaking," Kaylien Doreen wrote on the police department’s Facebook page.

"She was my daughter's teacher 6 yrs ago and went far and beyond to help her. A very beautiful and (kind) spirit, I hope he didn't do it because she spoke so highly of her son," Porscha Gulley commented.

“Oh no! She was so awesome! I remember. Them being so close,” Jenae Sanchez wrote.

The lawyer of an Argentine man who shot his parents dead has revealed how he 'violated' his stepfather's corpse, ate his flesh and committed an obscene act over his dead mother's body.

Leandro Acosta, 25, and his step-sister Karen Klein, 22, who have been lovers for six years, admitted to murdering their parents and burning their bodies as revenge for the 'years of sexual abuse' inflicted on them and their 11-year-old twin siblings.

Acosta's lawyer Monica Chirivin has told MailOnline the entire, gruesome story of the murder in Pilar, Buenos Aires, as told by the killer himself.

From inside a special psychiatric unit, Acosta confessed he had been planning the gruesome murders
of his step-father Ricardo Klein, 54, and mother Miryam Kowalczuk, 52, for some time.
His mental state had been worn away by the years of abuse he suffered at the hands of Klein, who began raping him aged six, and Kowalczuk, who 'involved him in threesomes' as a boy.

Acosta shot Klein in the head while he slept in his underwear, got 'sexually excited' and began violating his dead body. At that very moment, his mother walked into the room and began screaming: 'What have you done, you son of a b***h!'

He turned the gun on her and shot her – again and again. He later cooked his father's flesh over a pyre and ate it.
He said:

'It [step-father's flesh] tasted like pork, a tad salty but delicious.'

Acosta felt no remorse for killing his mother, saying: 'She was a whore and a drunkard, I did justice my way.'

Chirivin said eating his step-father's flesh was 'almost a pleasure' for Acosta, who claimed he had been raped by several of his mother's lovers.

The murders were discovered when a relative could not get into the house and rang the police. They found part of Kowalczuk's pelvic bone and spine in a bucket, along with more human flesh 'readied for consumption', and 16 huge refuse bags - some of which contained 'human remains'.

Police Chief Dario Lutter said they also found three recently-bought axes, a machete, a shotgun and a 9mm pistol.

Klein's body was never found but forensic tests on the garbage bags, found in the house's yard, may reveal its whereabouts. Luminol tests have also been ordered to find traces of blood inside the house.

After murdering his parents, Acosta reported the couple as child molesters and requested a restraining order against them. He then used the frame of a wheelbarrow to cart their bodies to a different section of the house where he kept them hidden for 11 days.

During this time, he beat the corpses, crushed the skulls, and impaled his mother's body on a spike and committed an indecent act over her corpse.

In her official statement, Acosta's step-sister and lover, Karen, claimed she only helped him 'clean up', but Chirivin believes she may have also helped drag the bodies and light the fire which they used to obliterate the body parts – and evidence.

She said Acosta, who is wheelchair-bound and fitted with a colostomy bag because of a long-running intestinal disorder, did not have the physical strength to light the pyre or lug the bodies around.

Neighbours are said to have recognised Karen - who moved in with the murdered couple after the death of her own mother - at the scene where the horrible-smelling bonfire was lit.

Once their parents had been murdered and their corpses set ablaze, Karen went off to her yoga class and Acosta went to work as usual.

Case prosecutor Eduardo Viaini has not allowed a psychiatrist to interview Acosta, who claims he is 'haunted by voices' and once turned to the infamous Umbanda cult, which is well known for its animal sacrifices.

Acosta and Karen's 11-year-old siblings, who their deceased parents had together, are with social security because their father's brothers do not want to care for them.

Muslim man, Asadullah Khan, strangled his own 19-year-old daughter to death with his bare hands after learning from police she had been caught shoplifting condoms to have sex with her forbidden boyfriend. He and his wife Shazia then dressed the dead girl named Lareeb (left), a dental technician, in her clothes, wheeled her in a wheelchair from their high-rise apartment to the family car, drove to a secluded embankment in their home city of Darmstadt in Germany, and tipped the corpse down it.

Khan, 51, with tears streaming down his face, admitted the killing because in his eyes she had brought 'dishonour' on the family with her love for a boy he didn't approve of. He and his wife were wed in an arranged marriage and he wanted the same for her.

Khan and his wife, originally from Pakistan, are on trial for murder at the State Court in Darmstadt. Shazia, 41, described how she was a downtrodden woman, totally in the thrall of her husband, and unable to save her daughter.

The court heard how the parents sent Lareeb's sister Nida, 14, to a relative on the evening of the murder in January this year.

Nida gave evidence against both her parents, saying her mother was as strict as their father, often striking both of them.

The mother held out her arms to Nida when she appeared in court on Friday but Nida refused to acknowledge her.

Nida said: 'My Mama was not suppressed, she could do what she wanted. She used to hit me with a stick.

'We were never allowed to talk about her boyfriend. My father used to say my sister should be forcibly married in Pakistan.'

The court heard Nida is now in therapy and has nothing more to do with her parents.

Shazia said that on the night of the murder Lareeb had quarelled again with her father and hit him. He later crept into her room as she slept, knelt astride her and strangled her.

'I couldn't stop him,' the mother said in a statement read by her lawyer. 'I have rheumatism and didn't have the strength to fight him off. I wanted to scream, but I couldn't.

'Lareeb stayed away from the home for several nights in a row and stopped wearing the headscarf. One day we received a letter from the police saying she had been caught trying to steal condoms.

'At this point it became clear that there was sexual contact. When I showed the letter to my husband he snapped.'

Killer Asadullah, who speaks no German, said he 'loved' his daughter.

64 Nigerians dead,240 missing at Hajj stampede

ABUJA – The National Hajj Commission, has confirmed that of Nigerian casualties at the September 24 Kuna stampede has risen to 64.

Similarly, as many as, 240 Nigerian pilgrims were still missing as at the time of this report.

Mr Uba Mana, the Public Relations Officer, of the Commission, he said that the injured were receiving the prompt medical attention.

According to him, a report containing the identities of the victims is on its way to Abuja, in line with the directive from the Presidency to the National Hajj Commission.
