However in 1932 it staged the British Open for the only time so far in its history. GENE SARAZEN &#40;1902-1999) won the title that year. He was the first professional to win both British Open and US Open Championships in the same year, 1932 - Princes, Sandwich and Fresh Meadows, New York. He was the first golfer to complete the career professional Grand Slam of British Open, US Open, Masters and US PGA. The other four are Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and Tiger Woods. He played in 6 Ryder Cup matches, including the first in 1927. He invented the Sandwedge. Having watched the working of aircraft elevators with Howard Hughes he made a prototype in a small machine shop in New Port Richey, Florida, in 1931, and first used it in the following year at Princes. His Sandwedge and Spoon were donated to Princes Golf Club. He will always be remembered for two golf shots. In his final round at the 1935 Masters he holed a four wood second shot at the par 5 fifteenth hole for an Albatross &#40;double Eagle) which enabled him to tie Craig Wood, who he went on to beat in the 36 hole play off. This 18 hole course hacks its way through the tropical forests & brutal terrain of Javas hills. The terrain used here was very severe making placement of any hole extremely difficult , poss 1 of the hardest courses for me I ve had to create requiring much landscaping , was a tough challenge.Most players understand Carry on steep ups & big Air Time on big downs , these are a factor here ... the course is perfectly optimised & the math does work , just remember & include Carry or Air Time in calcs..Thanks to all who helped in testing & to Pat for his gr8 splash logos ..
