NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP AUDITOR

Neil Poppel is a retired Captain USAR, Regional Budget Analyst for Medicare Contractors in six states with oversight of over $30M in government contracts. He is a member of the Joint Newtown Township and Borough Historic Committee and 30-year resident. As a graduate of the Temple School of Business he will bring experience and knowledge to the responsibility of auditor.

Elizabeth Janota is a talented manager of financial services, with more than 20 years experie

nce with computer based financial programs, H&R Block, and is the Treasurer for the Board of Trustees for YWCA of Trenton, NJ. “It’s time the tax office becomes responsive to the tax payer.”

CONSTABLE, NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP DISTRICT 1

Edward Valenti is a ten-year resident of Newtown Township. He is a graduate of West Virginia University with a

degree in psychology. Prior to attending WVU, he served in the Air Force as an Emergency Medical Technician. He has experience in both security and management and has successfully completed the Pennsylvania State Police training program to carry a non-concealed weapon while on duty (Act-235). Edward also has a current EMT certification and license to carry a concealed firearm by the State of Pennsylvania. He believes that his experience and training would enable him to serve the residents of Newtown Township as Constable with the expertise and people skills required of the job.

Newtown Borough Council

Bill Heinemann is a software engineering manager, a 10-year veteran of the Borough’s planning commission, past Chairperson of the Environmental committee, as well as a member of various work groups including the CVS planning group and the Historic group.

Perry Warren is an attorney and businessman with strong roots in the community as a third generation resident. Among his community volunteer activities, Warren serves as Senior Warden and Chairman of the Board of St. Luke’s Church.

Jennifer Pennington has served as a member of the Borough Traffic Committee and coauthored recommendations aimed at improving pedestrian safety and mitigating negative impacts of traffic. “Communities that have a strong sense of their past and also a clear vision for their future can achieve extraordinary results.”

NEWTOWN BOROUGH MAYOR

Isabel Godwin is a 37-year resident of Newtown. She is a former Borough Council member, and current member of the Advisory Boards of the Bucks County Children and Youth Agency and the Bucks County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Department. She believes, “The mayor must be accessible to all the residents. With the recent closing of Stockburger’s, I would be particularly diligent in seeing that this site be developed in a manner in keeping with the historic nature of the Borough.”

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP SUPERVISOR

Joanne Bintliff-Ritchie is a business professional, a soccer and drama Mom, and volunteer on the Newtown Township Traffic Committee. She believes positive change can be achieved in the Township while preserving and enhancing the historic nature of the community. She looks forward to engaging the Borough and our Jointure partners in a constructive exchange of ideas and identification of solutions. On hand were Dennis Fisher and Jay Sensibaugh candidates for the Board of Supervisors in Newtown Township, Neil Poppel candidate for Newtown Township Auditor and Newtown Borough candidates for Council Gerard O'Malley (Ward 1), Mike Sellers and Julia Woldorf (both Ward 2). DEMOCRATS PARTICIPATE IN NEWTOWN’S FIRST FOURTH PARADE

NEWTOWN, PA (July 7, 2007) – Newtown’s First Fourth Parade featured many community representatives including Democrats running for county and local office. Bucks County Commissioner Candidates Diane Marseglia and Steve Santarsiero joined Newtown Borough Council candidates Gerard O’Malley, Mike Sellers and Julia Woldorf and Newtown Township candidates Dennis Fisher and Jay Sensibaugh in the annual celebration of our nation’s birthday.

“Each year, residents of Newtown Township and Newtown Borough come together for the most festive of celebrations in our whole area,” said Newtown Democrats Chairman Phil Calabro. “This year we are proud to have the enthusiastic participation of an outstanding slate of candidates for local office.”

Attached are photos of the township and borough candidates in the parade.

O’Malley, 47, is a pharmaceutical marketing executive and has served on the Newtown Borough Planning Commission since 2005, while also serving on the Newtown Creek Coalition and the Newtown Library Company Strategic Planning Sub-committee last year.

Sellers, 55, is an attorney in private practice in Newtown and serves as chair of the Newtown Borough Planning Commission, member of the Environmental Advisory Council, chair of the Design Committee of the Joint Downtown Newtown Corporation and a founding member of the Newtown Creek Coalition.

Woldorf, 56 is a physical therapist in private practice in Bucks County. She currently serves as chair of the Newtown Borough Environmental Advisory Council and is a member of the Newtown Creek Coalition. She was Zoning Officer for the Newtown Borough from 1979-1980.

Fisher, 53, is a behavioral health professional. He serves on the Newtown Township Planning Commission, which reviews all township plans for residential and commercial development and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.

Sensibaugh, 57, is a mechanical engineer and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Newtown Township Planning Commission. He also has served as President of Newtown Crossing Community Association.

We have a qualified candidate for Auditor in Newtown Township. Neil Poppel has lived in Bucks County for over 30 years (ten years in Newtown Township).

He served as a US Army Medical Service Corps Lieutenant during the Viet-Nam era. He later retired from the USAR with the rank of Captain.

Neil was on the Philadelphia Regional staff of the Federal Health Care Financing Administration, serving as a Medicare Policy Analyst and Budget Analyst. The Philadelphia Regional Office oversees Medicare operations in 4 states and the District of Columbia. Mr Poppel oversaw Medicare Contractor Administrative Budgets that sometimes reached 15 million dollars. In his capacity as an Analyst he conducted Compliance Audits of Intermediary activities. After his early retirement, he served as a Medicare Hearing Officer for over 10 years.

Mr Poppel graduated from Temple University’s School of Business and Public Administration with a degree in Political Science.

DEMOCRATS ENDORSED FOR NEWTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL
NEWTOWN, PA (February 27, 2007) – Three Newtown Borough residents want to take their experience in borough government to a higher level and announced their candidacies for Newtown Borough Council.

Gerard O’Malley, a pharmaceutical marketing executive, Mike Sellers, an attorney in private practice in Newtown, and Julia Woldorf, a physical therapist in private practice in Bucks County, received the endorsement for candidates for Borough Council by the Newtown Democratic Committee.

“The Borough is ready for a more open and engaged leadership on our council, and we have three dedicated and highly qualified candidates ready to do the job,” said Newtown Borough Democratic Committee Person Sally Thompson when she introduced the three at the committee meeting last evening. “We are ready for a change in leadership in Newtown Borough and we have the team to accomplish that in November.”

Three seats are up for the six-member council this year.
O’Malley, 47, has served on the Newtown Borough Planning Commission since 2005, while also serving on the Newtown Creek Coalition and the Newtown Library Company Strategic Planning Sub-committee last year. He is running for the one seat up this year in Ward 1. Ward 1 consists of all borough properties north of Washington Avenue, plus two blocks bounded by South Congress Street, Centre Avenue and South State Street, which are south of Washington Avenue.
“We need transparency in decision making, greater communication with the community and new ideas for preserving Newtown as a fine place to live, shop and worship,” O’Malley said. “We must focus on preservation of historic character while facing 21st century realities.”

Bringing 30 years experience in local government, Sellers, 55, serves as chair of the Newtown Borough Planning Commission, member of the Environmental Advisory Council, chair of the Design Committee of the Joint Downtown Newtown Corporation and a founding member of the Newtown Creek Coalition. Sellers previously was elected supervisor of Falls Township, and served as solicitor of Falls and as private counsel before various local government boards.

“People need to be invited back to participate in their local government and always feel welcome. Communication is key to having a truly democratic process – residents should always know what is happening,” Sellers said noting that Newtown Borough is the sole local municipality without televised meetings and pledging to bring Borough Council meetings to the television screen. “One important “happening” is the Borough Comprehensive Plan Update, which residents should be aware is underway. It is a roadmap for the future, and how our community should look and feel.”

A 30-year resident of Newtown Borough, Woldorf, 56, currently serves as chair of the Newtown Borough Environmental Advisory Council and is a member of the Newtown Creek Coalition. She was Zoning Officer for the Newtown Borough from 1979-1980.

“Borough Council should work more closely with the advisory committees and commissions which contribute valuable recommendations and expertise to our government process,” Woldorf said. “Council should also engage in a stronger dialogue with neighboring communities on key issues which impact both communities.”

Sellers and Woldorf are running for the two seats up this year in Ward 2. Ward 2 comprises of most of Newtown Borough South of Washington Avenue.
The Primary Election will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2007.

”Phil and Jerry,” Supervisors elected in November 2005, have begun to play an active role in Township government. Last night, two additional candidates were endorsed for several positions, including the two vacancies for Township Supervisor.

He also has served the community as a youth sports coach, Scout leader, and as President of Newtown Crossing Community Association. Sensibaugh noted that while he grew up in the Midwest, he moved to Newtown to return to a county in which his family has roots going back six generations.

“I am committed to working with the entire community to preserve Newtown as a great place to live, work, worship and raise a family,” Sensibaugh said. “As supervisor I will serve with honesty, integrity and with concern for all people’s opinions as well as support a strong business community.”

If two people show up, it is a harmonious conversation, if three it is an organization and if fifty show up it is a movement. All will know that at least one friendly face will be at the 2nd Street Pub on the 2nd Monday at 7:00. After all, it's reaching back to our Democratic Party roots. It's the start that began the party that defeated Alexander Hamilton and Richard Nixon. A proud tradition, hoisting a beer or two in solidarity, preparing for the fights to come and celebrating the victories of the past.

A Great Gathering of Democrats

On October 17th, the Newtown Democrats hosted a Victory '06 event. Neither cold nor rain could keep a crowd of democrats away from meeting and hearing our local candidates speak. The evening kicked off with a great introduction from our own "Phil and Jerry". Newtown Supervisors Phil Calabro and Jerry Schenkman reminded the group that not only are many blue and red Newtownians now familiar with casting votes for good dem candidates in presidential elections and in last year's Township Supervisors race, they now see that Democrats can effectively govern. Next up was Chuck Pennacchio who ran a spirited and visionary campaign for U.S. Senate during the primary. Chuck motivated the group for November and also made it clear that change is a longer-term mission. Following Chuck, Mike Diamond spoke to the importance of community, which clearly is at the heart of his election stand for State Representitive (31st District). State Senatorial candidate Chris Serpico rallied the group and gave a passionate overview of his positions and the reason why voting "D" will move us forward. Patrick Murphy capped off the night with an amazing talk on the need for change in Washington and as our future representitive in the U.S. House he is prepared to lead. He shared a story of a woman from New Hope with ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease) and relayed her struggle and drive for life and her disappointment with the Bush veto of stem cell research. Through that story, Murphy reminded us that the new direction we all want in our great nation can have powerful personal impact.

So overall a good night to be a democrat. Following this final push as we all contribute, volunteer, and get out the vote, November 7th will be a great night for America.

DISTRICT 31 DEMOCRATS ELECT NEW OFFICERS, WELCOME VOLUNTEERS
YARDLEY, PA (September 12, 2006) – The District 31 Democratic Committee recently held its reorganization meeting, electing new officers and planning activities for Democrats running for office this fall.

Elected to a four-year term were Jeanne Bray of Lower Makefield Township as Chair, Rosemary Wuenschel of Newtown Borough as Vice Chair, Sally Thompson of Newtown Borough as Treasurer, Tony Bush of Lower Makefield Township as Corresponding Secretary and Nancy Logue of Yardley Borough as Recording Secretary. District 31 encompasses the municipalities comprising the 31st state legislative district, which includes Lower Makefield Township, Newtown Borough, Newtown Township, a portion of Upper Makefield Township and Yardley Borough.
