We are following up on our review of Descartes’ Error with a few helpful tips for undoing your liberal brainwashing and reclaiming your true identity.

First, understand that brain science is conducted by materialist determinists and so all theories about mind/brain interaction will be reductionist. Science assumes that all causes are materialist and all outcomes rely on the probability calculus. Scientists cannot operate any other way. Scientists cannot operate any other way and get funding.

There are “occult scientists” who attempt to make “spiritual” theories out of material theories. We have summarized their work and their shortcomings in The Hidden Masters.

The point is that materialism will never locate spiritual faculties or spiritual forces by studying the brain. Keep this in mind as you work with Damasio’s image/emotion model.

By using Damasio’s model, we are working at a very low level that is appropriate for everyone. However, there is no single magic formula for undoing image/emotion value maps because of individual variation. You have to discover your own image/emotion connections and understand the value of undoing false and harmful associations. It is difficult for most people to understand the value of working on identity cleansing because the controllers always promise a bright future if you will surrender your power to them.

The images they use to sell you involve happiness, health, and wealth. The slogans they use to control you involve abstract terms such as freedom, justice, equality, and happiness. It is very difficult to argue against the value-words, you have to understand the misleading nature of abstractions and the sinister agenda behind the false promises or you are lost in their game.

It is difficult to argue against happiness as a supreme value. You need to be able to perceive some value beyond the American Dream, accumulating wealth, seeking pleasure, tolerance, peace. You cannot do this without understanding the history of Marxist aggression and enslavement. You need to find heroes in history as role models of resistance.

The most accessible heroes in recent history who resisted Communist subversion are the Eastern European and Soviet writers and resistance leaders. Add the leaders of the House Un-American Activities Committee who investigated the Communist spy networks in the Roosevelt and Truman administrations. Add Senators Joseph McCarthy and Senator Patrick McCarren of Nevada to this pantheon of heroic resisters to Communist subversion of the U.S. government.

There is no important political figure in the United States who resisted the global “free trade” treaties that allowed the government to erase the borders of the United States.

Tom Tancredo was an early critic of the North American Union and illegal immigration from Mexico. Phyllis Schlafly defeated the Equal Rights Amendment. Ron Paul, a few others. Just a handful of well-known resisters.

Notice how poorly informed you are about our real heroes and how little you do to support them.

Everyone’s fundamental identity is with the body and the germ line. You are primarily your ethnicity and gender, one of a series of offspring from as far back as you can trace your ancestors. The values of the collective line of your ancestors are more important than political slogans or promises for the future. Learning about your ancestors is a primary prerequisite for orienting yourself away from mass brainwashing.

Notice how little you really know about the history of your white ancestors in Europe. The subject of European history is taught very poorly in the U.S. school system, by design. Digging into this history will surprise you. The primary orientation of the public school historians is admiration for the Roman Empire and denigration of the European tribes as barbarians. The diaries of Julius Caesar are their primary source for this orientation. But Caesar was a propagandist for his own achievements and his ambition to rule the world. You need the other side of the story, the greatness of European resistance to Rome.

Damasio’s mind/brain model undervalues reason. Reason is crucial for studying subjects that are beyond immediate individual concerns. But Damasio’s model is very effective for orienting you toward your emotional preferences as a model for self-understanding.

These preferences and image/emotion connections may remain hidden to you unless you make an effort to assess them. One psychological test that is helpful in this regard is the Birkman inventory. But ordinary folks usually don’t take the Birkman profile, it is generally used for assessing the problem-solving, communication, and interaction patterns of corporate executives.

Of all the various ways of assessing personality types, Birkman is superior. We do not recommend fooling around with “folk” typologies such as astrology or the line of personality assessment that developed from Carl Jung’s introvert/extrovert typology.

You don’t need a psychological profile or a therapist to disengage from the most obvious brainwashing gambits. Just remember that the Left is authoritative in nothing and the slogans are empty fronts designed to fool you.

We considered calling identity cleansing identity therapy, but the therapy model is too close to the Communist brainwashing model for our comfort.

Therapies are never designed to free you from the false ideas of secularism, liberalism, Marxism, Progressivism, whatever they are calling it these days. This is not an accident.

Your cleansing project involves identifying your own image/emotion associations. You can do this by taking inventory, and also by being observant of your own mental states. When the emotion arises, try to locate the image associated with it.

Ask yourself if you want to remain under the influence of this particular building block of your personality and worldview.

Modify and discard as necessary.

This is easier if you are literate. Language works as a kind of authority over image. You can talk yourself into modifying an image, but if your language skills are poor you may remain bound in image-land.

You have many choices about values, images, and emotions. The idea that there is one politically correct mindset is Marxist propaganda.

You modify your views every day but remain unaware of the arc of change. Try to be more aware of what is new in your image/emotion library and what you are discarding.

Consuming media makes you worse. You need to clear a mental space. This clear mental space of the present must connect with the line of culture of your ancestors or you will remain trapped in modernism serving the plans for New World Order tyranny.

Everything in modernism is false, a lie and a deception.

You do not need to fear that, if you remove some basic building blocks, your sanity will suffer or your world will fall apart. The mind automatically makes new image/emotion associations unconsciously. This is the true unconscious mind, the library of existing image links. The unconscious mind is not a realm of irresistible impulses (sex drive, aggression drive) trying to dominate your attempts to keep them in the box. Freud was wrong.

Liberation from the mass mental conditioning program has nothing to do with adopting any political ideas or psychological ideas. It has to do with breaking image associations that you were told you should value. The process is really Undoing Marxist brainwashing and seeing the emptiness of liberal culture, that’s all.

Holding many values and theories lightly in the pasteboard of the mind is where you will end up.

Your first exercise will be to stop identifying with the history of the federal government as “our” history and the actions of the federal government as “our” actions, as if the federal government were acting in our interests. The federal government isn’t “us,” it’s them against us.

Next we want to ask you, who did you root for in the World Cup? Your nation of origin, against the United States? Play along and answer the question, even if you don’t care about soccer. Who would you root for, if you were rooting?

Do you have multiple identities, multiple loyalties? Of course you do. We are not saying there is anything wrong with it. Notice that your identity switches instantly without “you” even noticing that you have done so. That is because your identity is unconscious.

Also notice that your identity changes through time, even though you do not note consciously that it has changed.

Now we would like you to extend your identity toward things that have been of most value to you. It might be a statue in Florence, a painting in the Louvre, a poem, someone you admired. Or it might be Bugs Bunny, Princess Lea, that Jack-in-the-Box guy, John Stewart, and the Kardashian family. Take the time to make a little list. These are value-identities.

If you can understand what moved you, what you really value, you are on your way to constructing a conscious identity. Take some time with this. It’s kind of fun.

You can make a list, or better, make a picture of your positive values and negative values. Examine and modify as necessary.

There is always a picture representing something you value. Now that you know this, feel free to remove any unwanted pictures and add new, better pictures.

Now, you have an identity cluster. We are fine with the cluster idea. Make your cluster what you want it to be. Over time, consciously add and remove images and their associated values. You’ll have a better feeling about who you are. The identity manipulators won’t be assigning a false identity to you, you will be resisting their manipulation and forming your own conscious identity-values. You’ll be taking control. What could be better?

By the way, part of your new identity is that you are conscious about identity manipulation and resist others doing it to you. Congratulations. You are a resister. We like you better already. You are better-defined. Even if you identify with people on TV.

The American promise of freedom through civil rights has proven to be a major disappointment as more legislation creates more government control over you. But now you have an inner freedom, the freedom to consciously shape your identity. You aren’t as controlled as you were a few minutes ago.

Breaking the liberal complex of image conditioning will bring you out of trance.

Coming out of trance is like surfacing after being under water. You will immediately notice how many people are stuck under water. You will want to help them, but you won’t be able to help them because they are too far under water.

You don’t have to find a “pure paganism” to admire pagan resistance to Roman takeover, you only need to admire their courage in trying.

You don’t need to construct an entirely consistent worldview or identity, you only need to be more aware of how you are picking and choosing this and that from the world’s image library.

Consistency of worldview isn’t the point. Consciousness is the point. Consistency is something you can work on later.

You can’t get the right worldview without having the right history, but you can recognize the process of image/emotion formation right when they do it to you if your trance is not too deep. It is a sales job. You buy because you are unconscious.

Nobody can make you believe in an image. Everyone has “inner freedom” once he escapes from the complex of false ideas they give you.

Many texts are devoted to explaining the techniques of radical propaganda, mass persuasion, brainwashing, and mind control. Arm yourself with this knowledge. The techniques of persuasion are older than Communism, they are based on the techniques that criminal hucksters use to fool innocent, naive people and take their money. Until you understand the con, you are the mark, you are the victim. Not teaching the techniques the sharpies use to prey on the innocent is a major shortcoming of parents raising children.

My heroes and authorities are mostly people who died resisting tyranny or persevered to carry out big projects. Who are your heroes?

Somewhere in your ancestral line of descent there is a warrior. In that warrior culture is your best value cluster. Identifying with any genuine culture in history is better than identifying with any aspect of modernism. Modern culture is pseudo-culture. All of it.

You can want to know the hidden history without wanting to be a warrior, and you can want to know the present actors shaping world affairs without wanting to be a warrior, and you can want to survive the takeover without wanting to be a warrior, but ultimately we are looking for warriors.

If you are not ready to apologize to your ancestors for failing to resist degenerate modernism, you haven’t done your ancestor/culture research and changed your false identification with all the modern crud. You remain trapped in the degenerate modern secular institutions helping no one, you are part of the masses being herded toward New World Order slavery, and you should feel free to drop out of our class as we have no interest in you.

Most people are the casualties of liberalism and live meaningless lives because they are acting under the brainwashing of mass education and mass media, it can’t be helped. You can only save yourself. But if you can break the conditioning of the modern liberal mind-controllers and reject the modern garbage culture, you will find friends and allies in the line of your ethnic culture. The ones who resisted the Roman takeover, the Communist takeover, and the New World Order takeover.

You cannot form a resistance and a nation until you do the work of identity cleansing and reject all liberal image/value conditioning. Don’t worry, you have nothing to lose but your slavery.

People used to say that South Africa was 20 years behind the rest of the Western world. Television, for example, came late to South Africa (but so did pornography and the gay rights movement). Today, however, South Africa may be the grim model of the future Western world, for events in America reveal trends chillingly similar to those that destroyed our country.

America’s structures are Western. Your Congress, your lobbying groups, your free speech, and the way ordinary Americans either get involved or ignore politics are peculiarly Western, not the way most of the world operates. But the fact that only about a third of Americans deem it important to vote is horrifying in light of how close you are to losing your Western character. Writing letters to the press, manning stands at county fairs, hosting fund-raising dinners, attending rallies, setting up conferences, writing your Congressman – that is what you know, and what you are comfortable with. Those are the political methods you’ve created for yourselves to keep your country on track and to ensure political accountability.

But woe to you if – or more likely, when – the rules change. White Americans may soon find themselves unable or unwilling to stand up to challenge the new political methods that will be the inevitable result of the ethnic metamorphosis now taking place in America. Unable to cope with the new rules of the game – violence, mob riots, intimidation through accusations of racism, demands for proportionality based on racial numbers, and all the other social and political weapons used by the have-nots to bludgeon treasure and power from the haves – Americans, like others before them, will no doubt cave in. They will compromise away their independence and ultimately their way of life. That is exactly what happened in South Africa. I know, because I was there and I saw it happen.

Faced with revolution in the streets, strikes, civil unrest and the sheer terror and murder practiced by Nelson Mandela’s African National Congress (ANC), the white government simply capitulated in order to achieve “peace.” Westerners need peace. They need order and stability. They are builders and planners. But what we got was the peace of the grave for our society.

The Third World is different – different peoples with different pasts and different cultures. Yet Westerners continue to mistake the psychology of the Third World and its peoples. Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe are perfect examples of those mistakes. Sierra Leone is in perpetual civil war, and Zimbabwe – once the thriving, stable Rhodesia – is looting the very people (the white men) who feed the country. Yet Westerners do not admit that the same kind of savagery could come to America when enough immigrants of the right type assert themselves.

The fact is, Americans are sitting ducks for Third World exploitation of the Western conscience of compassion. Those in the West who forced South Africa to surrender to the ANC and its leaders did not consider Africa to be the dangerous, corrupt, and savage place it is now in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Those Western politicians now have a similar problem looming on their own doorsteps: the demand for power and treasure from the non-Western peoples inside the realm.

It is already too late for South Africa, but not for America if enough people strengthen their spine and take on the race terrorists, the armies of the “politically correct” and, most dangerous of all, the craven politicians who believe “compassionate conservatism” will buy them a few more votes, a few more days of peace. White South Africans, you should remember, have been in that part of Africa for the same amount of time whites have inhabited North America; yet ultimately South Africans voted for their own suicide. We are not so very different from you. We lost our country through skillful propaganda, pressure from abroad (not least from the U.S.A.), unrelenting charges of “oppression” and “racism,” and the shrewd assessment by African tyrants that the white man has many Achilles’ heels, the most significant of which are his compassion, his belief in the “equality of man,” and his “love your neighbor” philosophy – none of which are part of the Third World’s history.

The mainline churches played a big role in the demise of Western influence throughout Africa, too; especially in South Africa. Today’s tyrants were yesterday’s mission-school proteges. Many dictators in Africa were men of the cloth. They knew their clerical collars would deflect criticism and obfuscate their real aims, which had nothing whatever to do with the “brotherhood of man.” Other tyrants, like the infamous Idi Amin, were trained and schooled by the whites themselves, at Oxford, Cambridge, and Harvard. After receiving the best from the West, they unleashed a resentful bloodlust against their benefactors.

From what I have seen and read thus far, I fear Americans will capitulate just as we did. Americans are, generally, a soft lot. They don’t want to quarrel or obstruct the claims of those who believe they were wronged. They like peace and quiet, and they want to compromise and be nice.

A television program that aired in South Africa showed a town meeting somewhere in Southern California where people met to complain about falling standards in the schools. Whites who politely spoke at the meeting clearly resented the influx of Mexican immigrants into their community. When a handful of Chicanos at the back of the hall shouted and waved their hands at them, the whites simply shrunk back into their seats rather than tell the noisemakers to shut up. They didn’t want to quarrel.

In America, the courts are still the final arbiters of society’s laws. But what will happen when your future majority refuses to abide by court rulings – as in Zimbabwe. What will happen when the new majority says the judges are racists, and that they refuse to acknowledge “white man’s justice”? What will happen when the courts are filled with their people, or their sympathizers?

In California, Proposition 187 has already been overturned. What will you do when the future non-white majority decides to change the names of streets and cities? What will you do when they no longer want to use money that carries the portraits of old, dead white “racists” and slave owners? Will you cave in, like you did on flying the Confederate flag? What about the national anthem? Your official language? Don’t laugh. When the “majority” took over in South Africa, the first targets were our national symbols.

In another generation, America may well face what Africa is now experiencing – invasions of private land by the “have-nots;” the decline in health care quality; roads and buildings in disrepair; the banishment of your history from the education of the young; the revolutionization of your justice system. In South Africa today, only 9 percent of murderers end up in jail. Court dockets are regularly purchased and simply disappear. Magistrates can be bribed as can the prison authorities, making escapes commonplace. Vehicle and airplane licenses are regularly purchased, and forged school and university certificates are routine. What would you think of the ritual slaughter of animals in your neighbor’s backyard? How do you clean up the blood and entrails that litter your suburban streets? How do you feel about the practice of witchcraft, in which the parts of young girls and boys are needed for “medicinal” purposes? How do you react to the burning of witches? Don’t laugh. All that is quite common in South Africa today.

Don’t imagine that government officials caught with their fingers in the till will be punished. Excuses – like the need to overcome generations of white racism – will be found to exonerate the guilty. In fact, known criminals will be voted into office because of a racial solidarity among the majority that doesn’t exist among the whites. When Ian Smith of the old Rhodesia tried to stand up to the world, white South African politicians were among the Westerners pressuring him to surrender. When Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe murders his political opponents, ignores unfavorable court decisions, terrorizes the population and siphons off millions from the state treasury for himself and his friends, South Africa’s new President Thabo Mbeki holds his hand and declares his support. That just happened a few weeks ago.

Your tax dollars will go to those who don’t earn and don’t pay. In South Africa, organizations that used to have access to state funds such as old age homes, the arts, and veterans’ services, are simply abandoned. What will happen is that Western structures in America will be either destroyed from without, or transformed from within, used to suit the goals of the new rulers. And they will reign either through terror, as in Zimbabwe today, or exert other corrupt pressures to obtain, or buy votes. Once power is in the hands of aliens, don’t expect loyalty or devotion to principle from those whose jobs are at stake.

One of the most surprising and tragic components of the disaster in South Africa is how many previously anti-ANC whites simply moved to the other side. Once you lose social, cultural, and political dominance, there is no getting it back again. Unfortunately, your habits and values work against you. You cannot fight terror and street mobs with letters to your Congressmen. You cannot fight accusations of racism with prayer meetings. You cannot appeal to the goodness of your fellow man when the fellow man despises you for your weaknesses and hacks off the arms and legs of his political opponents.

To survive, Americans must never lose the power they now enjoy to people from alien cultures. Above all, don’t put yourselves to the test of fighting only when your backs are against the wall. You will probably fail. Millions around the world want your good life. But make no mistake: They care not for the high-minded ideals of Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, and your Constitution. What they want are your posessions, your power, and your status. And they already know that their allies among you, the “human rights activists,” the skillful lawyers and the left-wing politicians will fight for them, and not for you. They will exploit your compassion and your Christian charity, and your good will.

They have studied you, Mr. and Mrs. America, and they know your weaknesses well.

They know what to do.

Science has devalued emotion because scientists believed emotion clouded reason or played no part in reasoning and was a function of the “lower brain.” Damasio is correcting this view by showing that feelings allow minding of the body and thus feelings form a frame of reference for images and thought interpretations.

Chemical substances affect emotions, but they do not always act in the same way. Emotion cannot be reduced to brain chemistry. One can study the ways that chemicals influence neural systems, but there still remains the personal issue of what images the individual uses to cause body changes. Cultural linkage of objects (black cat) with emotions (fear) produces superstitions and phobias. This linkage of image and feeling goes on all the time, and these connections are stored in memory, but subsequent experience can break these links. Damasio calls these “wrong connections.”

But we need to be very careful about attempting to change wrong cultural connections. The new substitute connections may not be better. This overconfidence in change characterizes the harmful reformer, the change-agent.

Reasoning and deciding are about future planning, and we plan our futures more or less constantly. The process of deciding may appear to be independent of emotion, but that is definitely not true. The process is as follows: the mind constructs multiple imaginary scenarios in quick jumps. The images in these scenarios create emotions. One generally acts toward the most positive emotions and away from the most negative emotions. Reasoning means submitting each scenario to a cost/benefit analysis, but the purpose of the exercise is always a subjectively desired or more desirable outcome. It is difficult to hold in memory the outcomes of multiple scenarios in terms of losses and gains. One may resort to paper and pencil instead of memory, but most decision making occurs apart from this strategy. Also, one tends to lose the intermediate steps as one considers multiple strategies.

Rational thinking takes too long and is too complicated. Instead, usually one substitutes somatic markers for extended reasoning. That is, one holds particular value outcomes associated with emotions. In the imaginary future scenario, if an image related to a negative emotion comes up, that particular scenario may quickly be omitted from future thinking. Damasio calls this the influence of somatic markers because body states (soma) mark images. The markers act to speed up decision making. Without them as value guides, decision making may be impossible. Somatic markers derive from secondary emotions and refer to the connections one has already made between images and feelings. They are an inherent value-map that is always available to speed up decision making as processing a wealth of detail is inefficient.

(Note how advertisers and political campaigners play on existing image/emotion markers to manipulate you quickly toward their desired outcomes. If you are not aware of being manipulated, you are being manipulated.)

Somatic markers are linked with deferred gratification as the mind imagines a future that is better, even though present suffering is required to achieve it. Will power is linked to this image of the better future after enduring difficulties. Will power is nothing more than the ability to choose a long-term outcome over a short-term outcome.

All somatic markers involve secondary emotions rather than primary emotions. They are usually embedded in memory as the result of socialization and education. The case of Gage shows that these somatic markers can be damaged in adulthood from brain traumas. Pathological behavior results when the somatic markers are disrupted or when they fail to link image with emotion properly during childhood.

Sick societies: Germany under Nazism, the Soviet Union, the various forms of Communism.

These images are dispositional because they are tied to life experiences that produced emotions. Individuals vary in the stimuli they respond to because of past associations of images with emotions. Somatic markers may operate both consciously and unconsciously.

Objective reasoning usually does not operate in daily life, partially due to its complexity but also due to emotions and feelings that involve safety, conformity, self-esteem, comfort, etc.

Three factors affect decision making, automated somatic states with their built-in biases, working memory, and attention. To be effective, images must be structured in coherent phrases, then structured in time. Ranking of priority cannot happen without value, and value cannot happen without previous somatic marking. A collection of markers act as a bias. Since the bias is individual, you have to know how the individual is bringing the value images to bear.

The old medical system of personalities depending on a dominant organ wasn’t that far off as the nervous system does report on the state of the various organs and these reports become our background attitude.

People under the influence of alcohol and drugs and those suffering prefrontal lobe damage cannot plan for the future, they are entirely present-centered.

The self is not a central knower. Knowledge of self depends on brain-body communication. You cannot separate the brain from the body and retain a sense of self. The self is a sense of being alive that depends on constant communication from the body.

Attention to one of the senses usually masks this attention to the body.

The self image has consistency, but sometimes also inconsistency, and this can be an irritant as one attempts to rebuild a better image of self.

What is happening now is happening to a concept of self that was constructed in the past.

Damasio believes the Faustian bargain brought progress to humanity, but this is merely a defense of science without consideration of its horrible destructive outcome. And, it is not a sophisticated analysis of the Faust myth. As a scientist, Damasio can try to correct Descartes without wanting to reject science.

Medicine developed by focusing on the body and leaving out the mind. Psychology was supposed to make up for this omission of the mind. For this historical reason, science and medicine appear inhuman.

Individual life is not determined because brain circuits are unique and develop apart from a determining signal.

Pain and pleasure are fundamental drives that influence decision-making strategies. Pain and pleasure divide into two parts, the image and the affected organ or body region. Pleasure is strongly associated with endorphins (morphine) binding to opioid receptors in the brain.

Pain is biologically valuable because it steers us away from danger and harm, but pleasure-seeking does not have survival value and in fact destroys societies and individual lives when pleasure becomes the focus.

(In other words, the society that pursues happiness is programmed to self-destruct through degeneracy.)

Paul Foster Case expressed a similar idea in The True and Invisible Rosicrucian Order (York Beach, Samuel Weiser, 1985): “The definition of good as the ‘greatest happiness of the greatest number’ is purely satanic. Good and evil must be measured against harmony and discord, not against pleasure and pain.”

That is why all Enlightenment thinking is infantile and misleading, the will of the majority is a meaningless fiction, and why all liberals appear to be trapped in permanent adolescence.

Many others besides Damasio have rebutted Descartes’ formula of scientific objectivity, without referring to brain science. We wanted to review Damasio to give you a little introduction to brain science’s insights into mental processes. You can follow our project “What Is Thinking” better if you understand that Descartes’ assumptions about mental processing were wrong and scientific objectivity is a false myth.

Scientists work against human social values because they don’t live in a society, they are elevated to an elite and funded by socialism. The power of technological innovation to destroy cultures and communities is the problem. How to regulate science is the problem. At the level of the village, the solution is easy, don’t let scientists in and very carefully test and monitor the introduction of technologies.

Finally, let’s have a look at Damasio’s presentation of results from the Standard Issue Moral Judgment Interview tests, which measures five stages of moral reasoning:

1. obedience and punishment orientation

2. purpose and exchange

3. interpersonal accord and conformity

4. social accord and system maintenance

5. social contract, individual rights

By age 36, 90 percent of Americans have developed to stage 3 and eleven percent to stage 5. Democracy and citizenship are too difficult for the majority to grasp. Notice the apathy of the masses — voter turnout in many elections is below 50 percent. Over 90 percent of the people you meet are emotionally at the level of children seeking conformity. This makes it very difficult to break the brainwashing of popular culture and politically correct slogans, but it also means most people actually would like to live in a community rather than a mass pseudo-society.

Psychologists are developing techniques to treat dissociation and addiction, but psychologists do not address those who are trapped in stimulus-response imagery loops, media trances, and propaganda trances. We don’t know how to do fast therapy and recovery, and 99 percent are emotionally invested in false beliefs. Let’s admit the odds are so heavily against us that the project of recovering mental health seems hopeless.

But people wake up to the lies and reject old image/emotion associations all the time. Learning about the con job methods they use to fool you can accelerate your learning curve. We escaped from the forced mass brainwashing program, and so others should be able to escape as well.

We have selected one author, Antonio Damasio, to review as an introduction to brain science. Damasio overthrows Descartes’ model of the mind as receiving sensory impressions, which then give rise to ideas. All of the leading Enlightenment thinkers shared this model of mind. Now that we understand that their mind/brain model was wrong, we can more easily understand why their political ideas were wrong. Man does not operate primarily through reason or desire to live in “rational institutions.” Romantics and occultists in the nineteenth century understood this and threw up a web of culture to counter the believers in scientific materialism as progress. Unfortunately, Romanticism ended badly, in Satanism, and the soft occultism of Mesmer also ended badly, in the false psychologies of Freud and Jung.

A line of rather obscure researchers beginning with Pavlov and extending to B.F. Skinner conducted mind experiments that resulted in the modern understanding of mind control and mass persuasion. Understanding how their techniques for persuasion work is an essential component of your self-defense against the modern manipulators, the advertisers and politicians and salesmen and con artists who have proliferated under modernism.

Let’s start with a basic mind/brain model.

Review of Antonio R. Damasio, Descartes’ Error: Motion, Reason, and the Human Brain, New York: G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 1994.

Damasio believes that science is a series of provisional approximations. Science is neither objective nor definitive. Damsio rebuts the error of objectivity promoted by Descartes using brain studies.

Phineas Gage’s brain injury changed him from an ethical and caring person to an unethical person who did not look out for his own best interest. He became a fabricator of tales. He lost the ability to plan for the future. There was a break with the old value system; it existed as old knowledge, but it was not drawn upon for decision making. Gage’s accident calls into question issues of free will and responsibility linked to brain function. Impaired brain function can remove both free will and responsibility. Brain injuries provide brain scientists with probes into brain function related to mind.

Dissociation occurs when one or more of the elements attention, perception, memory, language, and intelligence diverges from the others to create a consistent pattern of inconsistency. Dissociation is defined as mental illness. (Many naive young people experiment with dissociative states as “pleasurable” and end up dead or addicted to something.) (Surrealism exploited this infantilism in the service of Communism.)

Brain science has concluded that there are no single brain centers for vision, language, social behavior, or reason. Brain function involves systems linking multiple specialized centers. Mind results from the operation of the multiple components as well as the systems.

Brainvox is a computer manipulation of high-resolution magnetic resonance scans. It creates an image of the brain in three dimensions.

Every neuron forms 1000 synapses or more. There are 10 billion neurons and more than 10 trillion synapses. Neurons are modestly connected. Neurons interact in local architecture called circuits, which are joined into systems.

The author’s patient Elliot had something in common with Gage, he made cold-blooded decisions without emotion due to brain injury. Making rational decisions without emotion is a mental defect, but scientists ignore this aspect of their own thinking, and really, very few people criticize scientists for their coldness and lack of humanity.

Injury to ventromedial prefrontal cortices consistently compromises reasoning and emotion.

Everything does not come together in a single site in the brain (the Cartesian theater), although we have the feeling that it does. Knowledge is recalled in the form of images at many brain sites. Explaining the “single image” feeling is a current project of brain science.

Reason requires that many sequences of knowledge be held together in a broad parallel display for an extended time. Knowledge must be in focus (attention) and held in a mind buffer (high-order working memory).

Reason is a special and difficult activity. But abstract reason operates entirely differently from how people make decisions. Damasio questions whether reason really has any survival value.

Damsio’s argument from evolution is that brain subsystems governing reason and decision making must closely interlock with biological regulation to maximize survival.

The images from vision and hearing must connect closely to motor controls or we could not respond to external stimuli effectively. However, the senses are not directly connected with each other or with motor controls. Feedforward projections from various centers travel to processing regions. Signals move both forward and backward and do not ever end at a particular point. Brain processing is continuous.

The Cartesian theater requires perfect registration from multiple brain sources. Time binding: how is the sensory perception achieved that it is all happening at once when the information is synthesized from different processing centers? (One answer is, the processing happens so rapidly.)

All knowledge used in reasoning forms in images. Recalled images vs perceptual images, there is an interplay of memory and perception.

The self is not a little person but a perpetually re-created neurobiological state. Basically, the brain is recording knowledge of the body as background with sensory information as foreground.

Evidence indicates that the brain does not act as a storage system, like a library. Memory is recreated, not exactly reproduced. Frederic Bartlett was the pioneer who proved this.

Moreover, the brain draws from multiple representations to reconstruct memory.

(The fact that memory is consistently altered leaves us in a less solid position with regard to our past. The past is still “open” to us because past information can be processed differently in the present.)

Thought includes symbols, words, and inductions and deductions, but all thought relies on images. Images are the primary mode of knowledge. The production of images is the true unconscious function of the mind. Attention must be selective, but perception is greater than attention, and so one can recall and revisit what one overlooked in a complex experience. Einstein believed that words do not play a role in thought. And he recognized that there was an emotional component in logic, a desire to arrive at logically connected concepts based on analysis of images. Einstein believed that the translation of images into words was the hard labor of the secondary stage of thought.

The human genome does not specify the structure of the brain as there are not enough genes available to determine the precise structure of everything in an organism. We have about 100,000 genes but 10 trillion synapses in our brains. The brain and the whole organism are constantly changing during the lifespan.

(The implication is that we must constantly monitor and care for ourselves because times of neglect or stress have big consequences for our future. An industry devoted to healthy brain is now developing.)

Drives and instincts generate particular behaviors directly. These cannot change much or the life of the organism and the species is in danger.

The basic biological regulatory activity of the brain is probably not knowable, but mechanisms that cause instinctive behavior can be known “from the inside” as they give rise to actions without thought. They are pretty much preprogrammed in, though there can be some different learned responses to different environments.

Good, bad, and other simple value orientations come from the operation of the instincts. This categorization continues indefinitely and is extended to just about everything one encounters.

Strong chemical reactions in the brain may overpower the will and lead to love, death, addiction, and other states that appear fated or magical.

Instincts are checked by culture, which is a kind of codified thought to prevent feeding frenzies, sexual assaults, murders, and other unchecked instincts.

Descartes in Passions of the Soul said that this check is what makes us human. Freud said it was the superego in tune with social norms. Culture and society do not arise from individuals but from social collectives and hence are not primarily biological or instinctive. There is no legitimate reduction of culture or society to biology. There is a genuine social realm and cultural realm where group norms play out.

(Inserting themselves into the cultural and social authority structure is the subversive agenda of Marxism and Cultural Marxism.)

Damasio believes lower animal forms do not reflect but act on instinctual decision making that is subconscious, thus animals do not have a self. But rational decision making is not a function of a “high brain” system as opposed to an evolutionarily older “low brain.” The two brain areas interact in rational decision making.

William James proposed a definition of emotion that involved the body, which helped to develop scientific psychology based on neurobiology, but he did not pay enough attention to the stimulus, and he did not talk about the role of emotion in cognition. There is not a direct relation from perceptual stimulus to emotion but a wide individual variety of responses. There are a few, very few, innately wired emotions, mainly, fear of predators. Beyond these few instinctual emotions are the secondary emotions, which are constructed from a variety of images. These are called “dispositional representations,” and they link with previous experience linking emotion with image. These dispositional representations are individual, but because groups have relatively common experiences, many or most of these emotion/image links are shared by groups.

Feeling is the knowledge of the body state caused by an emotion. An emotion is felt by the body in terms of the mental images that give rise to body changes. There is a big difference between negative and positive emotions in terms of the rapidity of processing and the quality of reasoning. Emotions depend on body states linked with images.

There is a constant background feeling stemming from the present overall image of the body. Damasio believes this background feeling is the self. This knowledge is separate from knowledge of facts expressed in language about the particulars of age, marital status, address, occupation, and other components of identity. (Subjective self versus social self.)

Having an overall image of the body always present in background is efficient as it allows us to bypass the necessity of accessing particular information coming from various body parts and organs.

The body changes in response to emotions, but these body changes may not be the cause of the emotion. The cause is the signaling system in the brain that tells the body parts how to change.

As we noted in our post The racial integration con job, America is the land of identity confusion. The American ideal of citizenship creates a new American identity, a new primary loyalty to America that supersedes everyone’s ethnic identity and its heritage. Let’s explore this confusion in more detail. The idea of America requires every citizen be initiated into a new identity and to function in the new institutions America has created. But what about people who come here and hold on to their old identities? Are they Americans or something else?

Let’s take New York City in the nineteenth century as an example of a microcosm of America as a whole. Ethnic groups occupied neighborhoods, which coexisted uneasily with each other. Each ethnic group had its own gangs and mafias, which sometimes struggled with other ethnics over territory and markets. These local communities preserved ethnic identities and customs, and religions, such that everyone felt they had a hyphenated identity, Irish-American, Italian-American, and so on.

Now expand the big-city model to all of America. We see ethnic settlement patterns across the country and the rise of “regional cultures,” but the development of mass transport and mass communications meant the ethnic identities got weaker over time as people lost their identities in the mass culture and mass economy. Federalism, mass communication, franchising, standardization, big corporate penetration, mass markets, universal public education, and other factors worked against regionalism and ethnic identity. Even so, many areas of rural America today remain ethnically homogenous. The problem is, even in ethnically and culturally homogeneous rural white America, the people who turn on television get bombarded with the Left’s favorite stereotype of the moment, and everyone must live under the Reign of Identity Terror the Left has imposed under law, multiculturalism and political correctness.

Now add the various immigration waves of the twentieth century to this pattern of settlement. The idea of an American melting pot applied to those immigrants who easily mixed, and who adopted the American identity (and citizenship) most easily.

But what about those ethnic groups that most wanted to preserve their identity with their ancestors and their nation of origin? What about the Moslems who want to live under sharia law, or the Mexicans who send money back to Mexico and don’t want to become citizens, or the Southeast Asians who form separate communities and keep their language and customs? They didn’t really integrate and become melting-pot Americans. What about the Amish, who resisted the mass media takeover? How about the Chinese who came here to spy for Communist China? How about the Germans who supported Nazi Germany, and the Italians who supported the Fascists? Were they Americans?

These groups spawned controversies and legislation and court cases. Investigating these in detail would make a good masters thesis for some bright student at New World Order University. We believe the conceptual framework would be, American identity as embodied in citizenship, the shrinking and expanding boundaries of thinking about civil rights, how many markers define identity, creating loyalty, culture conflict, the role of population density in shaping tolerance, and the ability of the law and other secular institutions to destroy customs.

Regardless of what America once was, the recent wave of writing mortgages to people who obviously could not afford them indicates a predatory business orientation that makes a lie of the idea of “one nation.” Many have observed that the United States is really nothing more than a market. Is “freedom” the central underpinning of American identity? What does this mean in an age when Russia describes America as the least free nation on the planet and Congress is devoted to passing thousands of new regulations every year?

The idea of an American melting pot has been hailed as a great institution. Let’s reconsider. The melting pot had its conflicts and faultlines and was never genuine integration as one nation. The idea of the melting pot overstates the amount of integration that actually occurred. You can create your own list of examples of forced integration causing ethnic identity conflict.

Hyphenated identities are a kind of compromise indicating the failure of the melting pot idea to integrate a true nation out of the variety of ethnicities. Split identity is a form of mental disease. These hyphenated identities are a crucial weakness exploited by the Left to bring America under the control of Marx.

America is not a nation and has never been a nation. It’s too ethnically diverse. What “one nation” really means is, identification with the federal government, particularly with its foreign wars. How were Americans led to identify with Washington politics over state and local politics? How did their identity become national rather than regional or local? We aren’t exactly sure, but we think it has something to do with the cult of the founding fathers as idealistic political geniuses and brave revolutionaries. No one ever elevates the authors of state constitutions to the level of historical genius. No one even reads state constitutions. On July 4 about half the country becomes a Yankee Doodle Dandy, the other half winces. You would think no one had ever read an actual historical account of how America engaged in a particular war. This propaganda layer is very thick, and so effective that most Americans care more about Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Dwight Eisenhower, Franklin Roosevelt, or Douglas MacArthur than they do about their own ancestors.

Does this strike anyone as odd?

But it is no longer possible to identify with the federal government in the age of Obama’s Marxist takeover. It isn’t “our” government any more. Thinking about this subject should lead you to realize, it never was “our” government. The government was always the fulcrum of power of those able to seize it.

Today the problem of identity has shifted and intensified, for two reasons. First, the frontier disapppeared, and, with mechanization, people became cogs in machines rather than individuals in a real society. Second, the Left has attempted to take over and regulate all identities under multiculturalism. Multiculturalism is Marxist anti-Americanism. Its foundational principle is that non-European identities and customs are superior to European identities and customs because Europeans were aggressive explorers and colonizers. Multiculturalism resists integration into the American identity and the melting pot, while setting up a system of racial and gender preferences under law. By now, everyone recognizes that multiculturalism is nothing more than legalized discrimination in favor of the members of the coalition that presently supports the Left, feminists, blacks, radical Hispanics, Jews, the sexually abnormal.

The model for Communist multiculturalism is Stalin’s control of minorities in the Soviet Union. This is a history you should study. It’s brutal. We’re not going to give it to you in a post. Once you understand it, you will no longer be fooled by the idea of peaceful multiculturalism.

The Left’s ability to institutionalize radical identity preferences under law and promote anti-white immigration occurs at a time when white birthrates are falling drastically. White children are now a minority in many school districts, and the moment when whites become a statistical minority is only a decade or two in the future.

The legal success and propaganda success of multiculturalism means, there is no requirement for new immigrants to integrate socially or culturally. State socialism will assign them benefits. Now regulated by speech codes and hate laws, ethnic differences are allowed to float in uneasy suspension while the Left’s favored ethnic groups get various privileges.

This is an anti-white and anti-male agenda. Civil rights laws explicitly do not apply to white males. Moreover, the Left’s chosen identities are favored under criminal law with under-prosecution. Multiculturalism leads to increases in minority crime. Federal guidelines for minority contracts further squeeze whites out of federal funding.

Multiculturalism together with massive immigration of Third World minorities is designed to swamp America with minority Third World peoples, to take down the white power structure and the white culture. This has already happened. Whites are on the outside now.

When your neighborhood gets integrated by a new minority, they bring their gangs with them. The ethnic drug gangs are in the suburbs now. It’s not just the big cities that are drug and gang havens.

Socialism is unsustainable because of its reckless and useless spending. There could be a sudden turn in the balance of power between police forces and drug gangs as lower tax revenues force governments to cut police services. Drug gangs are very well funded and well armed. Drug gangs could control your town, suddenly. They have controlled the socialist housing projects from day 1. Ethnic drug gangs operating under Marxist hate-whitey ideology are the fallback position from irresponsible socialism cracking apart from its own corruption.

The more educated about this you become, the more you will realize that whites are in a deadly serious bad position. Today’s privileged minorities want to treat us as if we were all slave-holders of 200 years ago. There isn’t going to be any bargaining with radical Marxists bent on takeover.

The Left’s ideal of “global identity” serves the silent genocide controlled by feminists under the “family planning” front, the capitalist invasion of emerging economies, the global financial market integration that allows major international corporations to form global monopolies at the expense of native producers. Global identity also serves the budding environmental takeover of national economies, the whole program of forced global socialist integration propaganda that fronts for building the global totalitarian police state and exploiting the weak.

As more people wake up to the planned horror of the New World Order takeover, they also wake up to the power of Marxist identity politics to control the masses. Having been colonized and victimized under Marxism, they naturally seek freedom and escape from the false identities the Marxist controllers have assigned to them. You all know the feeling of icky nausea that floods your entire system whenever you participate in some liberal institution surrounded by ignorant zombie flea-beetles. It’s more than the elevation of the mediocre to controlling bureaucrat and the insult to your intelligence. All liberals give off an invisible slime secretion vibe that destroys everything of human value that it touches. The dissociation caused by propaganda brainwashing causes liberals to secrete an anti-social vibe that is the equivalent of bad breath plus body odor, only their ooze is far more toxic.

The by-product of all liberal institutions is liberal slime ooze, which turns everything it touches into the wasteland. Its Intellectual peak is the Obama propaganda speech, the unlistenable bullshit of Marxist cliches and lies. In media it is epitomized by the black comedy show and the reality show where clueless people gather to exhibit their dysfunctional personalities and bad ideas, accompanied by the rap soundtrack. The TV controllers don’t even try to cover it up any more, they constantly recycle the dreck everywhere under the assumption that they can degrade everyone to the lowest level. They even have quotas now for how much homosexual slime ooze is programmed on TV.

So what is the right route to rediscovering an authentic identity? Once colonized in the public schools and taught the Marxist shame-identity, how can you free yourself completely from the brainwashing and the degeneracy? How can you make sure that you never aid the enemies of humanity and help them carry out their evil agenda? Actually, this isn’t as easy as it might seem because whites who participate in any of the secular institutions are ruled by Orwellian speech codes that attempt to make lies appear to be truth. It doesn’t help that the vulgar black propaganda music is piped in to every public venue while security cameras record your every move.

The irony of forced racial integration under Cultural Marxism is, the planned advantages the minorities are supposed to get by associating with whites are lost because Cultural Marxism destroys Western culture. All of the arts have been emptied of genuine content now by radical subversives posing as artists. The Left has zero belief in literature or painting or any other art to spark or support radical transformation to the socialist dictatorship. During the second half of the twentieth century the Left undermined the authority of every art form and emptied it of meaning. Now that all of the arts are meaningless exercises in Communist Surrealism, there is no possibility that minorities will get influenced by positive cultural values, the only possibility is that whites will get degraded to the level of the degenerate Negro matriarchal wasteland.

Imitating Negroes has now resulted in marriage and birth patterns among white women approaching the level of dysfunctionality of the Negro matriarchy.

If you have awakened to your slavery and have understood how they lied to you and manipulated your identity, you will find there is no such thing as a support group or organized resistance. You are stuck with the project of cleaning yourself up right at the moment you become awake and want to proclaim your new knowledge and your rediscovered identity to the world.

The answer to the white identity problem obviously is not embracing the con job of Enlightenment propaganda. It is easy to study each of the Enlightenment thinkers and identify his particular fallacy. We’ve done the work, and we have discovered the networks of deception behind Enlightenment politics. Yet the default identity of resistance to Marxist takeover is identification with the founding fathers and the ideals of the Constitution. We are not satisfied with the formula of “inalienable rights” constantly undermined by legislative regulation taking away those rights. The fact that we are not satisfied with the American default identity makes our job more difficult.

Now that we understand how anti-human New World Order modernism has turned out to be, where do we look for models about our own future? We have thought a lot about this subject, and the sad fact is, there aren’t any good historical models.

How about looking to one’s ancestral roots in Europe? That might work if Europe wasn’t completely taken over by globalist socialism and the Marxist governments weren’t devoted to the elimination of the white race under black Moslem immigration, with government preferences. The Marxists have also taken over our homelands and spoiled them beyond recovery. We can’t go home unless we go armed to reconquer, and they are better organized than we are.

There is no possibility of exile to a nation with an honest white government because every nation has been taken over by Marxist race-hustlers under the criminal socialist state.

We have looked into the Enlightenment opposition of the nineteenth-century Romantic poets who rejected the French Revolution. The Romantics looked in several directions for models of resistance, to medieval Christian culture, to the Greek pagans, and toward relatively unknown exotic cultures elsewhere on the globe.

Understanding how Romantic ideas developed in the nineteenth century can help us avoid the pitfalls they fell into. Their models all fell short of the mark. Their ideas coalesced around the same problem, the problem of the self, and Romantic rebellion then foundered on meaningless introspection.

The problem of the self continues unresolved into modern times, even though many thinkers have contributed this project.

The problem of the self was taken up by psychology. Can psychology help us with the problem of the self?

No chance. Psychology is a series of pseudo-sciences that arose from Western occultism. There is nothing in psychology of any value. The intellectual work discrediting Freud and Jung and their followers has now been done. It’s summarized in The Hidden Masters.

The idea of America as a Christian nation is entirely misleading. We were never “One nation under God” because we were never one nation. The leading founders were anti-Christian Freemasons. “Liberty, equality, fraternity and the pursuit of happiness” is a masonic slogan, not a list of Christian values. None of these terms appears in the bible. The U.S. Constitution imitates the English form of government without a king. Democracy is essentially a (Greek) pagan idea imitated by England, not Jewish or Christian.

Similarly, there is no such thing as the United Nations. Nations are defined by their separate cultures and ethnic composition. All of the global machinery is devoted to destruction of nations and peoples under Communism.

The United States will only become one nation as a multicultural pseudo-nation under Marxist multiculturalism promoting the elimination of the white race.

Today we’re going to make a quick review of the trends of interest that impinge on the ability of the New World Order to hold itself together and control us. In the Era of Constant Crisis, certain trendlines have played themselves out, and others have emerged as influential. This review will set you up for a change in mini-era, a change to the next phase of the New World Order.

Europe has stabilized its financial system after the Greece bailout crisis. The European Union is going to hold itself together while debt issuers pay off debts. European governments’ austerity measures should work to prolong the EU’s future. European banks are stress-tested; most will survive. Shutting out U.S. influence means Europe can survive, alone. The long-term trend of anti-white immigration policies can continue. European nations will have to deal with street violence, but we assume they can control their populations with force.

Some sharp economists are still predicting bond default by the PIIGS or in Eastern Europe, but even if this turns out to be the case, Europe has bought itself time.

In the United States, attention is going to turn to the Fed as quantitative easing is the only thing holding the financial system together. None of the fundamental financial problems that caused the crash has been solved. We are in the same position as in 2008. The recent five quarters of economic growth were purchased with trillions in stimulus. Basically, we got nothing for it but a few jobs, higher corporate profits, and a pile of debt.

But the Democrats continue to spend us into national bankruptcy. Thanks to Michelle Bachmann for explaining how the latest state-aid spending bill (aimed at saving teachers’ jobs) will play out. The unions will get a pile of federal cash. They will transfer much of it to Democratic candidates running for office. It doesn’t get any more corrupt than that.

“Conservative” economists devoted to “free markets,” supply-side stimulus, low taxes, and balanced budgets keep launching attacks against Obama and the Fed, but nothing keeps the Democrats from spending. That is because “Neo-Keynesian” economics holds that the Fed can pay for increases in government spending simply by “printing money.” This formula has worked for a couple of decades, obviating the necessity for tax increases to pay for the wars, banker bailouts, and state bailouts. But the extreme overspending and zero interest rate policy now have the rest of the world’s attention.

Even though the Federal Reserve itself, the IMF, China, European leaders, and leading economists have warned that Obama’s spending is unsustainable and will lead to financial disaster, the Fed continues to support socialist deficit spending with its low interest rates and quantitative easing.

If you only take one thing from today’s post, understand that the Fed quantitative easing policy enables Obama to continue his reckless spending, corruption, and police-state takeover.

The Fed’s policies are designed to enrich the big banks, and the big banks are interested in keeping everyone in debt to them, including governments. The bankers and the socialists are in the same camp. Debt peonage is the silent slavery of the New World Order. Global socialism is the public propaganda arm (“hope and change”). The police state benefits both parties by checking potential resistance from below.

U.S. imports are soaring and exports are shrinking. In China exports are soaring and imports are shrinking. The economists call this a “trade imbalance.” The term is not strong enough to describe the wealth flow out of the U.S. and toward China. The “imbalance” is so one-sided that the world is trying to abandon the dollar. China has downgraded U.S. debt from AAA to AA.

U.S. credit agencies are attempting to remove their ratings from all bonds due to the new financial regulation bill, which holds them legally responsible for their credit ratings.

Everyone but the Fed and the Democrats knows the U.S. can no longer issue debt based on future productivity of the economy. The people are beginning to understand that there may be no economic recovery for them. Talk of recovery is only a statistical measure, anyway, indicating growth from present levels. Growth would have to be very much higher than projected to service the debt. Growth or no growth, the loss of wealth, estimated at $8 trillion in the U.S., will never be replaced.

The economic trendline of greatest danger is continued housing and real estate price deflation. Fannie and Freddie cannot support the current mortgage default rate, banks are loaded with risky mortgages, and the derivative mortgage market is so huge that marking their true value would bankrupt many banks.

The propaganda line that the Fed and the Treasury saved the economy from a Depression deflects attention from the possibility of a Depression ahead.

State and local government layoffs have not yet reached their peak, meaning unemployment has not yet reached its peak. With real unemployment rates over 20 percent in many countries, pools of desperate people are forming. Visibly desperate people are a minor embarrassment to the socialists. They can be explained away and controlled with state force. They only become significant if they change their orientation away from supporting socialist government and form armed gangs.

With U.S. financial regulation now forbidding bank bailouts, bank credit ratings are diving.

Home ownership has fallen to its lowest level, millions of houses are standing empty in foreclosure. Many economists are forecasting a commercial real estate collapse in the next year. Many forecasters explain that housing prices have not yet bottomed.

Capitalist scavengers are now swooping in to pick up these distressed assets for pennies on the dollar. This always happens after a recession. Recessions work to the advantage of the wealthy because they are able to buy at cheap prices when prices deflate. But this time it’s different. Obama and the Fed are so dangerous that wealthy investors fear the potential of a dollar collapse.

Obama has no foreign supporters except radical Islam, which he is funding. They are not powerful enough to save him.

The most positive outlook of the moment is for a stagnant economy, but in the next few months the underlying instability of the credit markets could prompt the Fed to do something drastic. There could be a big, destabilizing economic change in Fed policy during the fall months. Economists are debating this change in terms of a battle between inflation and deflation, but behind the scenes the elite global gangsters are debating the role of the Federal Reserve in terms of U.S. collapse and the ripple effect it will have on the rest of the world.

The next era will either feature a huge economic and financial crisis inside the United States or some retrenchment of Obama’s socialist policies, leading to stagnation. At the moment there is a huge divide between the bulls and bears on Wall Street, signaling extreme uncertainty about the economic outlook. Dribs and drabs of bad economic news are actually good news in such an environment because it will mean the economy is limping along rather than imploding in catastrophe.

Having isolated America and rejected the dollar, the rest of the world will shape their economies more locally. The United States has not addressed any of the problems that caused the financial crisis, with one possible small exception. We do not hear the Communists in the UN continuing to call for writing mortgages to illegal immigrants and other poorly qualified minority home buyers.

In the early part of the twentieth century, Tibet banned automobiles because they scare the yaks. Many Tibetans approached Lhasa on their knees, so cars were bothersome. Tibet also banned foreigners, to preserve its culture. Pretty smart. The Tibetans had a kind of paradise, and they didn’t want the modern age or modern man to ruin it.

Travelers to Tibet reported that Tibet was a poor country. Life was harsh, nature was cruel, and robber bands operated freely. Lhasa could not extend law enforcement outside the capital city. There were no modern conveniences, and you had to live under a complex system of superstitious customs. But you could not find better people, and living adventurously in rugged nature won the enthusiasm of every foreigner who encountered Tibet’s magic.

Compare with your neighborhood. Do you trust your enlightened neighbors? Are you warming up frozen food for dinner? What’s on TV tonight? Is the American dream working out for you? Is Barack Obama your spiritual leader? Why? Do you really think you have a better future than the Tibetans have under Communism?

When Communist China invaded Tibet in 1949, the Tibetan army fought bravely, but they only had a few rifles, no trucks, and the Red Army easily killed the Tibetan soldiers.

Since 1949 China has been resettling Chinese into Tibet, building roads and factories and mass housing. The Chinese are eliminating Tibetan culture and the Tibetan people. It’s a genocide.

You’ll notice that Obama is silent about it.

A prophecy about the the fall of Tibet was given to the XIIIth Dalai Lama in the 1920s. But he was unable to organize a military force during his lifetime powerful enough to defeat the Chinese Red Army of the future. The present XIVth Dalai Lama has never given any indication of resisting China’s invasion by force, except when Chinese soldiers were chasing him and trying to kidnap him. When his own life was at stake he was interested in being protected, otherwise he has resorted to the “universal one consciousness” formula of occult escapism, “They are really us and we are really them (so why can’t we all get along on my terms)?”

The image of the nice, kind, forgiving XIVth Dalai Lama on the world stage has won him a lot of naive friends, but this Dalai Lama has perpetuated the false image of Buddhist pacifism to smiling naive people who know nothing about Tibetan history. There were many armed wars between Buddhist monasteries in Tibetan history. At one time in Tibetan Buddhist history, around the tenth century, Tibet had the most powerful army of all its neighbors and was a conquering nation.

The environmentalists should be sorry to see the Tibetan environmental paradise lost. But you don’t hear much from them about the Chinese occupation, or Chinese industrialization, or the Chinese Communist genocide against the Tibetans. Why not?

If China had never invaded Tibet, and if Tibet had allowed a little modernization (the Dalai Lama was in favor of modernization), Tibet today would be a destination for eco-tourism and Buddhist tourism. It would be hailed as a pristine example of buddho-enviro-cultural decentralized whatever. The enviros would parade around in Tibetan clothes and proudly display their handicrafts. The mythos of Tibet is so strong, it could serve as a “source,” a paradigm of what tribal cultures ought to do in the Age of Green.

But instead of buying Tibetan handicrafts and supporting a truly eco-friendly culture, today’s enviro liberals shop at Wal-Mart for cheap Chinese junk.

What’s wrong with this picture?

What’s wrong with this picture is green socialism. The greens may squawk a bit about China’s industrial pollution, but they are not really serious about preserving one of the most beautiful and pristine environments in the world, Tibet, from Chinese modernization because the same global controllers pushing green socialism are pushing China’s development to number one world power.

You see, the green socialists aren’t really interested in the environment. If they were, they would be lining up to block China’s industrial development. But that’s not how it works. The greens are socialists first, and the environment is just a convenient excuse for taking total control.

Funny, isn’t it, that after all these decades of green socialism, the green socialists don’t have a Mecca they can migrate to, they don’t have one single example of a traditional culture rejecting modern industrial development and living sustainably on the land that they can point to as a green model. That’s because they don’t really want any models like that. They don’t want tribes blocking modern industrial development, they want global taxes and control over everyone’s energy use. They want government subsidies for solar and wind projects. They are even defining this technology as “green jobs.”

But the green jobs promise of the Obama administration has already failed. A year ago Obama was talking about the Spanish model. The Spanish model of green subsidies resulted in an unemployment rate over 20 percent in Spain, and dangerously high debt loads threatening national bankruptcy. Obama doesn’t talk about Spain any more. The green energy model is a recipe for national bankruptcy. But no one is calling Obama out on his green lies.

There is no such thing as sustainable green socialism. Obama was lying to you. On purpose.

The green agenda is supported by governments, corporations, and wealthy investors. So why haven’t these heavy hitters put together one single “sustainable” green community? Stupid college kids would volunteer in droves to live in the “green community of the future.” Why isn’t there even one such functioning master model after decades of green propaganda?

Because the green agenda is global socialism, global taxation and energy control, not decentralized anything.

Industries are keenly interested in saving money. Corporate engineers will modify products and factories for maximum energy efficiency. They don’t need a government financial incentive to innovate energy efficiency or green bureaucrats to control them.

The greens are on the wrong side. Instead of supporting industrial development, they should be supporting native peoples against the intrusions of the modern world. But how much of the environmental effort goes into this project? Not much. That’s because socialists aren’t against modern development, they just want to profit from it and control it.

Green socialism is really fraudulent environmentalism. It’s a global control agenda, not a leave-it-alone agenda.

The problem with the greenies is that they are lefties. They are in favor of government control, including UN control, over land use and energy use around the world. But the greens have no better idea about how to organize an industrial economy than the Soviet Union had. Industrial economies aren’t green, and fiddling around with green products is just whistling in the wind. Either you favor modern industrial development or you don’t. Either you favor the elimination of native peoples by armed socialism or you don’t.

Those “green” products you are buying at Wal-Mart are just green marketing, a green veneer serving to mask the real New World Order economy. High technology isn’t green. “Economic recovery” isn’t green. Third-world automobile factories aren’t green. The cheapest source of mass power is nuclear. Nuclear power isn’t green. Capitalism isn’t green. Socialism isn’t green. Yaks are green.

If you would like to join the Tibetan yak culture and go green, God bless you. But you will have a hard time adjusting to a diet based on yak butter, you will have to give up your career aspirations and your video games, and you will have to be a better fighter against socialism than the Tibetans were. If you aren’t up to the cultural readjustment and the fight necessary to stop Communism, that’s fine, but shut up already and leave the rest of us alone.

Tibet is only one example of a traditional tribal culture overwhelmed by modern military force. Tribes with primitive weapons simply cannot stand up to the military power of modern weapons. The take-away lesson is, if you want to build a genuine society based on better values than soulless genocidal Marxism, you will have to build an army capable of defeating aggressive union thugs and the armed LIberation Front, and you will have to eliminate the feminist, gay, black, and Hispanic subversive infiltrators. Notice that all of these people are better organized and better armed than you are, and more serious about taking power over you than you will ever be.

When socialism wrecks the economy and your local police force is laid off, the edge will go to the black and Hispanic armed gangs in your local neighborhoods. They are armed with automatic weapons, Marxist slogans, and an income stream from drugs. What are you armed with?

Oh, I forgot, your survival plan is to get food stamps from the government when the money runs out. Maybe Obammy will save you. Maybe you’ll get a green job. The government wants to spend more money, maybe you’ll get some of it. Maybe your compassionate liberal friends will share their food with you when yours runs out. Maybe you can sustain a meaningless life in the multicultural suburbs for a while longer. You can whistle socialist slogans while they pick your pocket and tell you what to think.

Or maybe your future isn’t any brighter under ObamaMao than the Tibetans’ future is under the Chinese occupation.

Something to think about while you are shopping for green Chinese junk at Wal-Mart and dreaming that you are “saving the planet” by buying the right products.

If you were excited by our summary of critical state theory in Part 1, today’s post should sober you up. Everything in critical state theory is a load of bullshit.

The scientific approach to the study of history is entirely false, and historians have recognized this since scientific positivism took its form in the late nineteenth century. In the 1930s anti-scientific history coalesced around Michael Oakeshotte, John Lukacs, and Charles Collingwood. The study of history as the history of ideas remains far superior to scientific history and to any theory of history described as stages of development. Dialectical thinking about history has similarly been exposed as a fraud, as a scheme imposed on history from the outside.

The fundamental error of scientific history articulated in critical state theory is the belief that history constitutes a system, hence is open to theorizing about causes in terms of laws and statistics.

Science has never been able to prove that cause is operating in the material realm of nature. If this surprises you, it is only because you have not read Chapter 28, Science and History, and you were indoctrinated with science worship in public school.

A scientific law, which is an observation of regularity, cannot cause the actions of nature or man. There is no such thing as the law of cause and effect. Cause remains an assumption of nature’s regularity, but no scientist has ever proven that cause is operating in nature.

Science is not a process of discovery, it is an invention. Its building blocks are observation, mathematical formulas, theories, and laws. All of these building blocks are subject to revision. Science creates theories, it does not discover “truth.” Which theories are accepted is a matter of social dynamics among scientists, the so-called “scientific community.” This ill-defined community really means, in practice, “every scientist who agrees with us at this moment and wants to get funding.”

The error of scientific determinism has forced scientists to adopt probability calculations as a substitute for cause and effect.

In social studies, the error of scientific determinism was adopted by Marx, Haeckel, and Engels. Marx said, “It is not the consciousness of men that determines their being, but, on the contrary, their social being that determines their consciousness.” Marx had it exactly backwards. If one’s consciousness is determined by one’s social class, then men should be permanently condemned to a primitive level. No one should ever be able to escape their class consciousness. How could any new idea appear if everyone’s consciousness were determined? Marxism crumbles from its false belief in deterministic laws of history. There are no laws of history.

Today the Marxists have largely abandoned appeals to laws of history and have adopted the term “evolution” applied to history, as if history occurs by random chance. You can always spot a liberal. They consistently adopt Haeckel’s false application of evolution to human history, even though it was disproved long ago.

Dialectical materialism suffers from the same fallacy as stage theories of history. The theory is projected upon history from outside history. These fallacious ways of thinking require two streams of history, the cause stream and the effect stream. Marx characterized these streams as economy and culture. The idea that cultures are the result of laws of economics is so absurd that you probably can’t even find a Marxist to defend this equation. If you do, ask him to give you the law in a sentence and prove the causal relationship.

Scientists cannot deal with human values or unique events in history. Science has purged all human values from its enterprise, that is why it is anti-human. Science is devoted to collective “laws,” and Marxism is devoted to analysis of history in terms of collectives. This similarity, plus an unfounded belief in the superiority of materialism, often pulls scientists into the orbit of Marxist pseudo-science.

And why not? Scientists are surfing on their own elite rafts and believe common people are unsophisticated. Marxists think the same way. Both Marxists and scientists believe they should be given free reign to rule over you.

Because science is inadequate to study history, scientists devalue history. Every single evolutionary theorist of the late nineteenth century operated under the belief in progress, with science as the driver of progress. Today the formula is, science and socialism as the driver of progress. Actually, science and socialism are driving the progress toward a global police state. Neither science nor socialism is interested in ancient history, and both reject the myths of all cultures as imaginary stories. The effect is not only to separate their followers from the great heritage of the human past, science also enlists its followers into believing that material causes and communities are immune from conscious individual decision making and action.

Men make history through their decisions. Science simply cannot deal with the conscious actions of conscious men. Scientists must always reduce such actions to nonexistent materialist laws, even though science can never prove the existence of any particular material cause. That is why you hear liberals today drone on about “root causes.” There are no root causes, but that doesn’t prevent liberals from propagating an endless stream of false causes.

Science seeks to compact its laws into principles, which are higher-level aggregations of laws. The search for grand principles led science to search for causation in the realm of observation, measurement, laws, and principles, but science could not locate causality in any of these realms. Scientists then sought to locate cause in energetics, in thermodynamics, in entropy, in relativity, and in quantum mechanics. The project has entirely failed, and science now presents its theories in terms of probability rather than causation.

Science founders on three main contradictions: The contradiction between its previous belief in deterministic physical laws and the dual wave/particle description of quantum theory, which forced science to abandon determinism. The contradiction between quantification (number) as truth and the existence of lengths for which no number could be found, forcing the development of new fields of mathematics. The contradiction between the assumption of a continuum of reality and the unobservable quantum realm for which discrete numbers are believed to be the superior description. These contradictions have forced science to abandon its original method, the analysis of parts constituting wholes, and embrace the analysis of whole systems by the probability calculus. This embrace of “wholism” applied to system analysis underlies critical state theory and various social sciences, which spin off into huge libraries of fallacious theory.

To attempt to make a philosophy or public policy from this barrenness is absurd. The whole point of the exercise is to figure out how to control you.

Every scientist knows there is no such thing as the “law of cause and effect,” yet none will come forward in public to denounce critical state theory as pseudo-science. Why is this? Because scientists are dishonest. They are playing a game of knowledge and power. They don’t give a damn about people.

In the mid nineteenth century, Adolphe Quetelet attempted to apply statistics to the study of man, believing that society operated under laws similar to the laws of physics. This false belief is today called the fallacy of scientism. It is the fallacious reduction of the spiritual and ethical categories into the material. Quetelet suffered from the fallacious belief that laws could compel behavior. He confused scientific law as a form of mathematics with scientific law as a form of energy. Scientific laws do not belong to the realm of reality; they are idealized forms and cannot compel or cause anything.

Quetelet worshipped the probability curve and announced that “nature prefers the mean.” But this observation conflicts with nature’s production of the new and the unique. Mathematical distributions have nothing to do with nature’s intent or nature’s ideal. All such statements on the part of scientists are matters of individual opinion, projections of value onto nature. There is no such thing as a scientific method of interpretation of scientific data. All interpretations are subjective and rely on individual bias.

Quetelet’s fallacy in believing in the operation of social laws led him to believe that all sorts of social phenomena depended on materialist laws operating in society. He viewed variations in crime statistics as analogous to tides. This phony project of imagining social laws continues today, even though Quetelet was discredited well over 150 years ago.

Jeffrey Sachs is the Adolphe Quetelet Professor at Columbia University. Jeffrey Sachs is one of the chief globalist manipulators around global Green socialism. Sachs wants you to believe in global warming and the relationship between CO2 and warming. Jeffrey Sachs gets frustrated when he can’t dig more money out of your government to solve imaginary problems. This is what science and socialism have become, the fraudulent manipulation of data under the presumed authority and prestige of science, as if science were anything more than a parade of passing theories subsidized by socialism. Jeffrey Sachs does not want you to believe that you even have a voice in determining your own future.

Science only constructs the theories that the elites want constructed. Out-group theories are ridiculed and their proponents are persecuted. Scientists are lemmings who flock to acceptance and funding. The correct name for this is careerist science.

The National Academies of Science have been involved in frauds up to their elbows since their creation. But no museum exists that houses the evidence and exposes the frauds. Big Science is fundamentally dishonest with the public about the shortcomings of science.

Abstract thinking is always dehumanizing. That is why scientists are cold, aloof personalities capable of crimes against humanity.

Recent studies indicate that one-third of all scientific papers contain fraudulent, manipulated data. The real number is probably higher. Science is a corrupt enterprise because corruption is not punished and crime pays.

Science is way overdue for a purging of its bad elements. But no scientist has the courage to go up against the corrupt scientific establishment because he knows it would be the end of his career. Scientists generally stay mum on politics for the same reason.

History is unfolding in a particular way, and the eccentricity of that way occurs because of the ideas and actions of men. Probability theories and “power laws” attempt to get you to think that some other force besides human action is responsible for man’s history. Scientific laws do not determine your future. You do, unless you hand over your power to the scientific controllers. You know, those people who operate without ethics yet imply that more funding for science will result in “progress.” How could there possibly be human progress that is not linked to moral behavior?

The Left understands this dilemma, that it has no moral basis, and so it tries to construct a moral front by appealing to “human rights,” to “empowerment,” to a “right of free choice,” and to a “right of privacy.” These slogans serve to keep dumb liberals unaware of the history of socialism and its true project. Whenever the need of the moment requires a reversal of ethical relativism, the controllers appeal to a “sense of responsibility” or some other nebulous value as a tactic of mobilization. Liberals are so dumb they never recognize that the slogan of the moment conflicts with yesterday’s slogan. This is a measure of the success of their program of forced retardation.

Now let’s review some of the errors in critical state theory, as we summarized in Part 1. The main error lies in applying “power laws” (scientific principles) to human behavior. There is no good reason for characterizing societies as organized just below some hypothetical critical state.

The power law hypothesizes that no large event is required for mass extinctions, and yet most evolutionary scientists are devoted to the theory that the dinosaurs went extinct due to the impact of a large meteor. What really is there to gain in terms of understanding when the power law ignores such specific events? Instead of heightening our understanding, the power law dismisses specifics in favor of generalities about “laws” operating in many different fields of study.

Critical state theory has nothing to say about chains of destabilizing causes that further disrupt systems that have restabilized after disruptive events. Are these chains of causes supposed to be of the same nature? How do they arise? How are they related to each other? What does the destabilization of a society from epidemic have to do with destabilization from war? Why would critical state theory want to ignore economic and geographical causes of migration and assume that “individual decision making” is the only important factor at work?

We want to suggest that critical state theory and chaos theory are actually designed to deflect attention from studying cause toward comparing pattern to hide the real factors at work in various fields of study.

How could there be any benefit to ignore the various scientific approaches to various fields of study? The various sciences have won their credibility from hundreds of years of trial and error. Enfolding all these studies under one term, “science,” as if science were one method, tells us nothing of real value.

“No city knows when it starts out how large it is going to be” is not a scientific sentence. Cities don’t know anything.

“Organized just on the equilibrium side of the critical state” is not a scientific sentence.

“Power law” is a marketing phrase, not a scientific concept.

“Power laws vary from 4 to 1 to 2.4 to 1″ is a meaningless statement.

Human societies are not “self-organizing systems.” They are not systems.

Do you really want to believe that there is some common law describing the cause of events that appear over time and distributions of other, different events over space?

Science recognizes forces, but not forces of order and forces of chaos.

Science has not claimed that “laws fix determinisms” for over a hundred years. However, it is true that scientists are not always up-front about the failure of science to establish cause. Many of them speak as if science had proved something.

Computer simulation is not science.

Historians are able to do much more than “fall back on the telling of stories.” Critical state theory is really anti-historical. Critical state theory is nothing more than an extension of Quetelet’s fallacy designed to create a smooth description of effects without mentioning causes.

Now let us explain the true agenda of critical state theory. Systems analysis has become an approved scientific discipline in the computer age. Critical state theory is intended to support systems analysis. That is why critical state theory insists on defining history as a system, even though it is not, and societies as systems, even though they are not. They must define everything that they want to bring under their control as a system and ignore the history of the various sciences.

The New World Order is devoted to building global systems to control everything. Systems analysis is interested in supporting these systems.

Science has purged all human values from its method, so of course systems theory would be defined as a science.

The fact that the Left thinks “scientifically” is a measure of its corruption and anti-human orientation.

The fact that alternative ways of thinking about history and society are not widely recognized as superior to science is a measure of the corruption of intellectual life in the West in the age of Marxism and scientism.

For humanity to have a good future, control systems must be broken and systems thinking must be discredited. The controllers describe this positive human program as terrorism. Whatever term you use, decentralization can only be achieved by resistance.

Once the systems are in place and well supported, humanity will live in a slave camp. Remember, the Marxists are experts in genocide.

We hope you are able to understand how critical state meta-theory becomes pseudo-science serving the controllers who are shaping the New World Order. If they can make you think that “forces” are at work apart from their evil agenda, they can hope to escape the righteous wrath of humanity.

Don’t get taken in. You are a human being, not a node in their system.

During the past twenty years scientists have been working to develop a new theory, called critical state theory, from nonequilibrium studies of physics. Critical state theory, which is part of chaos theory, hypothesizes that disasters, upheavals, and other large-scale phenomena arise from certain structures that maintain themselves in a near-critical state, such that minor disruptions can lead to large-scale changes in state.

Critical state theory has been applied to earthquakes, epidemics, forest fires, mass extinction of species, stock market crashes, and similar crises. Buchanan is attempting to relate its principles to other large-scale phenomena such as wars and revolutions.

The cofounders of critical state theory seem to be Per Bak, Chao Tang, and Kurt Weisenfeld, who in 1987 set up a game to study earthquakes. These researchers dropped grains of sand, at first physically and then using a computer simulation, at regular intervals to form a pile. Whenever an avalance occurred, they counted how many grains of sand were affected by the avalanche. They wanted to find out what the average size of an avalanche was, but to their surprise they found there was no typical size; avalanches occurred rather randomly at all sizes. Bak and Tang next colored their sandpiles red and green according to the steepness of the slope. Flat areas were colored green and steep areas were colored red. By then observing the effects of a single grain of sand dropped on the pile, Bak and Tang were able to conclude that the sand formed linked stress areas such that large avalanches could be triggered by the action of a single grain of sand. Hence the sandpile was said to occupy a critical state when it consisted of a large number of linked high-stress areas.

Equilibrium states of matter in which things change slowly are considered to be stable. Nonequilibrium states of matter have sudden changes in state. Often the causes of these changes are hidden or difficult to discover. The insight of critical state theory is that it explains the causes of systems with turbulent histories as being linked to their interlocking structures near maximum stress. For such a system to erupt into violent change takes only a small initial force that ripples through the system, causing massive destabilization. This complex of cause and effect can be described by the sentence, “When it starts, the earthquake has no idea how large it is going to be.”

There seems to be no particular good explanation for why human history should be so violent and unpredictable as opposed to harmonious and gradual. Human history is to be sure a record of large upheavals and unexpected events with obscure causes. Critical state theory, according to Buchanan, explains why human events on a large scale must be interesting. The cause lies in the ways some societies organize themselves just on the equilibrium side of the critical state. As the stresses build, even small events can trigger large disruptions. Buchanan’s reportage of critical state theory thus seems to hold promise as a method of analysis for understanding historical events.

Another insight of critical state theory is that similar types of events tend to be distributed according to a power law. For example, going down the Richter scale, earthquakes of half the magnitude of the previous level tend to occur four times as often. The particular arithmetic value of a power law varies by type of situation, but usually this variance is no more than from around 2.4 to 1 to 4 to 1.

This means that events described by the power law are scale-invariant; a large-scale event is no more improbable than a small-scale event. The size of the event is really a function of the linked stress points in the system. A few small earthquakes may relieve the stress, or the stress points may remain linked until a single large quake relieves the stress. In the sandpile game, the power law was, avalanches of twice the magnitude are 2.14 times as rare. These small variations in the relationship between size and frequency seem rather insignificant when gathered from several independent fields of investigation. This means that, for systems that self-organize in this way, large events may arise from the same kinds of causes as small events.

After Bak and Tang’s experiments, scientists have expanded the field of critical state theory to include the study of traffic jams, the appearance of solar flares, the behavior of the Standard and Poor’s stock index over various time periods, the self-organization of a crumpled piece of paper, the distribution of cities and towns across the United States, and the movement of magnetic fields through a superconductor.

Applied to the known mass extinctions of species that have occurred in earth’s history (440, 365, 250, 210 , and 65 milllion years ago), researchers have concluded that the differences between stable and unstable periods of evolution are not significant. About 35 percent of all species have become extinct during periods of catastrophe, but 65 percent of all species have become extinct during countless periods of smaller mass extinctions. Biologists used to think of the less dramatic periods of extinction as normal and the dramatic extinctions as “caused from outside.” With critical state theory, that distinction disappears. Looking at a graph of mass extinctions shows that the size and frequency of extinctions follows a power law. It follows from this power law that no particular extreme event is required for a large mass extinction to occur. The same power law applies to the appearance of new species. The argument is a bit too complex to reproduce here, but the conclusion is that new species appear at a fairly stable rate for long periods of time, punctuated by periods when large numbers of new species appear. No special causes need to be postulated for the appearance of the large number of new species; the particular interaction of genetic variation, adaptation to habitat, and species interaction accounts for the smaller number of periods when larger numbers of new species appear. Evolution is also described by the power law.

Taking a closer look at the critical state, we can describe it as an uneasy balance of the forces of order and the forces of chaos or disruption. Critical state systems tend to stabilize just this side of destabilization. An event may trigger a minor destabilization or a major destabilization, and then the state returns to equilibrium balanced just on the side of order, awaiting the next stimulus to disruption. Each field of study may give rise to a slightly different value of the power law, but all systems so organized are liable to chains of destabilizing events leading to temporary new relatively stable states. Because such systems have both large-scale and small-scale changes, systems governed by the critical state have interesting histories. Critical-state theory claims that the universe is such a system, life is such a system, and human history is such a system.

Buchanan emphasize that this elaboration of probability theory applied to large-scale social phenomena does not aspire to fix a determinism. The sizes of cities tend to be distributed according to a power law, but that does not mean any particular person is forced to live anywhere in particular. The decisions of individuals to relocate here and stay there are so numerous and unpredictable that we cannot apply any meaningful analysis to the human level of decision making affecting the size of cities. We do not have to look at economic or geographical factors as causes, either, except insofar as we find them of interest. We need only assert that there is a pattern of population distribution that roughly holds true over time and space. This pattern is the same, whether one looks at settlement patterns within cities, in a country, or worldwide. No city knows when it starts out how large it is going to be. But turn the whole system loose and you get four times as many small cities as large cities, over and over again, everywhere.

In history there are many great events about whom no on can agree on the causes. Buchanan believes that is because there are no deterministic laws of history. “In history, frozen accidents continually alter the playing field on which the future must unfold, and so the historian can only fall back on the telling of stories.” (p. 178)

But here we step in to the discussion to observe that there is no difference between the “frozen accidents” of history, upon which future history must occur, and the “frozen accidents” of matter, from which future arrangements of matter will occur. None of these “frozen accidents” is frozen or accidental. Despite denying that deterministic forces are at work, the regularity of pattern seems to imply, for Buchanan and other critical state theorists, that some force must be consistently acting in the material realm to achieve such a uniform result of effects. In other words, the critical state theorists are using verbal sleight-of-hand to fool you. On the one hand, they want to draw your attention to similar patterns in various realms to convince you that the pattern is similar, hence predictable, but they don’t want to have to identify the particular force or forces at work because they can’t. They are displaying patterns, emphasizing similarity, and then disavowing any need to know the causes of particular patterns. They are fooling you by jumping up to a certain level of abstraction that will describe all their examples. The “power law” phrase implies that some universal force is at work everywhere, but they refuse to describe the forces specifically. The “power law” is just another term for “scientific principle” aggregating several laws together from several realms while denying they are engaged in science.

Actually, Buchanan is correct. The critical state theorists are not engaging in science. They are engaging in fraudulent pseudo-science.

The extension of critical-state theory to human history rests on the assumption that human history is no different than material history. In both cases there is the same impossibility of determining all the factors of the initial state, the same operation of the law of cause and effect, and the same factors of time and space as context. Material history only occurs once, too. The difference between human history and physical history is that human history is the history of groups and societies, and so it is more properly described by probability theory that ignores the individual and focuses on the larger system.

But what Buchanan isn’t tell you is that science’s inability to locate cause operating in the material realm has forced science to completely abandon its previous approach of description in terms of causes to description in terms of probability. Saying that social life is similarly best described in terms of probability is just an extension of the scientific method from nature to society.

You can apply the “power law” to anything once you define it as a system. Science itself is an enterprise that can be described as a critical state governed by a power law. Science has its revolutions and its paradigm shifts. Like a grain of sand, one single new observation or idea may not shake the sandpile, but the arrangement of knowledge does have stress areas, and any new study has the potential to be the one that causes an avalanche. There are minor avalanches occurring among scientists working on small-scale problems all the time; but the process is usually that the smaller community reorients its approach without publicity or without influencing unrelated fields of study. But every once in a while the larger scientific community is shaken by a discovery that forces a larger and more public reorientation.

Buchanan believes that the power law does a wonderful job of explaining the appearance of wars. When conflict erupts between two countries, whether that conflict spreads to other countries depends on how near the critical edge of chaos nearby countries are. When a war breaks out, it doesn’t know how big it is going to be. Critical state theory asserts that many small conflicts will end of themselves, whereas a smaller number will spread to a wider conflagration and a yet smaller number will destabilize several countries and become major wars. No special causes need to be considered, just the states of stress marking the total field. By the way, the power law for European wars is 2.62 to 1 (p. 213).

All of this theorizing assumes, of course, that war is best described as a matter of destabilizing stable systems. Everything in the theory depends on the two opposing concepts, order and chaos, and the vague idea of stress as a universal cause. If you are satisfied with this analysis of how wars happen, if you believe that “small wars just end themselves,” you are a candidate for believing meaningless abstract gibberish dressed up as science. We’ll take the whole approach apart in the next post and show you that critical state theory is a totally meaningless and misleading project.

Let’s make our bias clear. We are rooting for the failure of the euro, the breakup of the European Union, and the restructuring of all European economies around ethnic nationalism with a national currency. This means rejecting free-trade agreements, hobbling global corporations, and rejecting the “everyone needs to export” model of the New World Order. We also favor trials for treason for the socialist leaders currently in power in street tribunals, with fireworks afterward.

Actually, we are in the camp that thinks there isn’t going to be a recovery. Obama is making sure there isn’t one.

Let’s get past the “good news” that the largest and most predatory global corporations have survived the financial crisis nicely and are able to post record profits. We’re not rooting for them to get bigger and more powerful and more profitable. Next they will start gobbling up the smaller fish. The logic of this will eventually be, one big global corporation. Well, not really. More like two big global corporations enslaving everyone. With a very large unemployed population.
