What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

Back in 1956, AI was invented at Dartmouth College. This was only the beginning of the capabilities that AI would be able to achieve. The idea behind AI is a computer being able to complete tasks that would generally done by a human since it takes intelligence and judgement. To get to the point of full consciousness, there has been three stages of AI: Stage 1 – Machine Learning, Stage 2 – Machine Intelligence, and Stage 3 – Machine Consciousness.

Stage 1: Machine Learning is when a computer uses algorithms and information to learn and improve accuracy as a human would learn. Examples of machine learning is Siri, Alexa, Bots, etc.

Stage 2: Machine Intelligence is computers or robots that have used enough algorithms to learn to the proficiency of a human. This allows computers to learn on their own without being specifically programmed.

Stage 3: Machine Consciousness is when computers are able to reason and self-learn. As of 2023, we are at the beginning stages of Stage 3.

How is AI Used with Websites?

Writing Content – As of early 2022, Artificial Intelligence began being used for websites. There are many tools out there that can generate text for you just by giving the platform a topic or an outline of what you want. The one thing these generators do not tell you is AI generated content could hurt your Search Engine Optimization rankings. We still find it is best to write your own content if you are trying to rank high on a Google Search. AI content does not meet Google E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) standards to be able to rank them on a search engine results page.

Creating Web Design – As of 2023, there have been more examples of AI being able to fully design a web page; however, this is just a machine interpretation of what you are looking for. There are always flaws since AI is not always able to discern your exact needs and desires for your site. At this point there is not enough data to determine how Google will rank AI developed websites.

Creating Images- AI developed images are not a new thing; however, within the last year AI has been used to create its own images as if it was actually holding a camera. Not only can AI create an image from just a few words, you can also use AI to edit photos in photoshop. As of 2023, Google does allow AI created images; however, it will mark images as AI generated if they show up on a Google Search result.

NEXTFLY Advice on AI and Websites

While Artificial Intelligence is still so new, it is still hard to determine the long term effects that it can have on your site and how Google ranks it with “homemade” competitors. While AI seems like the easy route to go, this could have a detrimental affect on any marketing strategy that you have now or will come up with in the future since Google is penalizing AI generated content.

Change has been around since the beginning of time, but changes in just about everything have never seemed to have occurred more quickly than in our lifetime. An area where change occurs more quickly than others is with all things tech-related. If only all technology-related changes would be as easy as you getting a notice that there was an update for you! In real life, you need to stay on top of the latest available to keep your website up to date. If you don’t, you risk either missing out on Web-Design Trends that will potentially increase your audience, using an out-of-date trend, or even worse choosing a trend that could possibly do more harm than good for your site! This blog will mention just a few of those that we both love and hate! While we can’t fully educate you completely on these trends, hopefully, we will grab your interest in finding out more from the designers at Nextfly!

WEB-DESIGN TRENDS THAT WE LOVE RIGHT NOW

A trend that continues to be popular, and has been successful to many, is the use of Experimental Navigation. This trend resists the use of having a traditional layout for your page, and if you successfully provide clear direction to your viewers, it will guide them through all your site has to offer.

Another favored trend is the use of Animated Product Reveals. This encourages your visitors to become more engaged in viewing your page. People today are often in a hurry, no matter what they are doing, and this trend will help with speed browsing. The ultimate goal is that the hover animation will also make your visitor want to keep exploring.

One last, but not only, trend we love is Overlapping Text. Gone are the days of layouts that are neatly presented, with everything neatly arranged with its own space. You can pick up any magazine to see this being used. It’s also a popular design for websites. Simply put, this places your worded message, often the headline text, over imagery. This method breaks up old-school uniformity but doesn’t go as far as to create confusion in the viewer.

WEB-DESIGN TRENDS WE DON’T LOVE RIGHT NOW

Thankfully, most of the trends we are not fans of, are not still being used by most, but unfortunately, you sometimes see them promoting various businesses. No need to go into much detail in explaining what these are, as just mentioning them is enough!

A cluttered layout just begs a viewer to move on to another site! The goal of a good design is not to squeeze as much as possible on the opening page. This is not to be confused with the trend we love of Overlapping Text! This is the ultimate example of “less is more”!

The use of a Splash Page is not a favorite, either. This was often used with the idea that watching a video to show how great a product is, will make it even better. Sadly, it often has more of a negative effect because of the time it wastes to actually see what the website is all about. We find that most people “click to skip” so why even use one?

Pop-Ups… do I really need to say more? Who hasn’t clicked on an article, just to decide that because of the pop-ups, it wasn’t worth your time? While some feel that they are great attention-getters, many feel they are more distracting than beneficial.

So, who has time to keep up with all these trends, and know what the best choice is and what might turn a viewer away? A professional web designer does! You’ve read only a small sampling of both what are and are not successful approaches for your page design. You can trust that Nextfly utilizes the latest, and the most effective strategies that will help you best promote your business! Contact us today to find out how we can help!

I start every work day by getting to the office by about 8:50 in the morning. I get to work a little bit early so I have enough time to get my work space set up, grab myself a cup of coffee, or do anything else to get me mentally prepared for the day.

Once I am situated at my desk, I look at my assignments for the week and since it is the beginning of the month, I will be focusing on content writing for one of our lovely clients. I start out by looking at the keyword terms my team and I have discussed with the client that will ultimately boost their rating and visibility on Google. When I am writing content I don’t like going into my topics blindly. I heavily research the client I am writing for if they are a new client, the industry they work in, and any other information the public might be interested in reading about. Sometimes I even check out what their competitor might be doing to help them stand out more. After getting the basic information I need, I begin outlining my content pages and creating a rough draft.

Once I am finished doing that it is usually close to noon, so I take a break and grab some lunch from a local spot nearby. Taking mental breaks is important to maximize efficiency. Whether you write, design, or whatever you do take breaks to rest your mind and let it relax.

After lunch, I either continue writing or if there are any web edits or updating that needs to be done, I will work on those. Today is one of those days. A client of ours writes a blog and has us optimize it for Google. This means I will edit the content (checking grammar, spelling, etc.) and then plug in the keywords that will boost their Google ranking for the month. After optimizing our client’s blogs, I get back to my content pages.

Sometimes I need a break from writing in order to deliver better content for our clients. Every writer knows how common writer’s block is it is the absolute bain of my existence. It can be hard writing something new and creative. The creative juices aren’t always flowing and that’s okay. The best trick for me when I get writer’s block is to just step away from writing and do something else. Usually, the best ideas hit you when you aren’t even thinking about the content you need to write or the research that you could look up that would make your content more engaging.

After I am done writing the first draft I reread what I wrote a few times to make sure there aren’t any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors, and I edit it until the content actually makes sense. There have even been a few times when I ask someone to read over my work if they have time to make sure it sounds good.

Now that the content is written and perfected, I will begin uploading it to the client’s website. I load the content onto a new webpage, include photos that match the content, and make sure it is properly optimized. Unfortunately, there just aren’t enough hours in a workday, so I will finish uploading these content pages onto the website and optimizing them tomorrow morning.

Now that it is the end of the work day I pack up my things and leave. This has been a day in the life of NEXTFLY’s SEO specialist and content writer. If you are interested in having content written and added to your website, or you are in need of SEO optimization for your website, contact NEXTFLY Web Design today for a free quote!

In web design, a call-to-action (CTA) button plays a role in determining the success of your website objectives. A designed CTA button serves as a persuasive guide leading users towards the intended action, whether it’s signing up, purchasing, or discovering more content. Let’s explore the technical aspects of crafting impactful CTA buttons using Photoshop. It provides insights and practical advice to increase click-through rates and improve user engagement.

Color Psychology and Contrast

The use of color has an impact on how people behave and feel. When creating a CTA button, color choice is crucial in grabbing users’ attention and conveying a message. Select a color that stands out from the background while matching your brand’s color scheme. Using contrasting colors can create an impact. For example, placing a vibrant CTA on a neutral background can attract attention.

Size and Placement

The size and location of your Call to Action (CTA) button play a role in encouraging conversions. It’s essential to ensure the button is big enough to be clicked without overpowering the overall design. Position the CTA button strategically on the page, where users naturally look, like at the end of a section or close to the content. Also, remember to leave space around the button to avoid it feeling crowded.

Clarity in Copy

Ensure the text on your CTA button is short and direct and tells people what action to take. Use action words that create a sense of urgency or excitement. For example, “Start Now” is more captivating than “Click Here.” Play around with font size, style, and color to ensure it is easy to read and fits well in the design.

Button Shape and Style

The visual prominence of your CTA button can be influenced by its shape. While rounded or rectangular buttons are commonly used, you can explore shapes that match your brand’s style. You can experiment with gradients, shadows, or other stylistic effects to create depth and make the button appear interactive. However, it’s essential to ensure the button maintains its clickability and doesn’t blend excessively with the surrounding elements.

Whitespace and Visual Hierarchy

Whitespace holds significant value in design, as it can enhance clarity and direct users’ focus. Utilize whitespace around the call to action (CTA) button to create a distinction from elements on the page. Establish an organized structure that highlights the button, ensuring it becomes the center of attention amidst the surrounding content.

Hover and Press States

Ensure that interactive elements such as CTA buttons react to user actions. Create a hover and press states for the button to communicate feedback to users when they engage with it. This enhances interactivity and reinforces the button’s clickability.

Mobile Responsiveness

In the mobile-first era, it is crucial to prioritize the optimization of your call-to-action buttons for different screen sizes. Create buttons that are easy to tap on smaller screens, and consider making them larger for mobile devices to accommodate touch gestures.

A/B Testing and Iteration

Creating call-to-action (CTA) buttons requires a customized approach rather than a universal solution. Experimenting with button designs, colors, sizes, and placements through A/B testing can offer valuable insights into what truly engages your target audience. It is important to iterate and enhance your CTA buttons based on the data you collect.

Designing Call-to-Action Buttons

Call-to-action buttons are designed can have an impact on how well a website converts visitors and keeps them engaged. When creating CTA buttons, it’s important to consider color psychology, where they’re placed on the page, the words used, and their visual hierarchy. Remember, design is the beginning; you need to continually test and refine your CTA buttons based on user behavior data to keep them effective. By following these tips in your Photoshop design process, you’ll create attention-grabbing CTA buttons that encourage actions and contribute to your website’s overall success.

With Summer ending, many companies start thinking about redesigning their website while they have the down time during the cooler months. If you do not have a current web design partner, the process usually starts with cold calls to find the company that will best suit your company and the needs of your website.

What Do We Need To Start Your Website

Logo

The logo is extremely important since it is the bases of your entire design. Your logo can tell us if you want a traditional design, a modern design. We design all of our websites with your logo in mind, this helps spread your brand identity throughout your pages. Your logo can help set the identity of your company depending on its design. Your logo could be colorful and fun or monochromatic and professional. You want your logo to set yourself apart from your competitors. You want them to see your logo in a crowd and remember you. The colors and fonts will spread throughout the full site to give consistency to your brand

Fonts & Colors

Fonts and colors are important to provide to consistency with your site. This will ensure that all of your pages have the same color scheme and fonts. Your website visitors will have a better user experience by viewing a cohesively built site. Not only are your fonts used on your logo and your site, it is also used on your business cards, pamphlets, and more.

Template (if applicable)

If you have gone the route of the templated website, it is important to pick out a template that fits your desired look and feel of your brand. It is not important to look at template in your industry. You want to look at a template that has sections that you could use and a flow that you think is best. You can also use your template as the outline of how to form your content. All of our Elementor Templates can be pieced together if you have a banner you like on one and a services section from another. You just need to let us know!

Images / Videos

While many sites choose to use stock images, NEXTFLY strongly encourages the use of personalized images for your business. Potential clients feel more connection to sites that have images the location, employees, and portfolio over sites that have stock photography. Additionally if you are selling products on your website, it is extremely important to have high quality images.

While we do not offer photography or videography, we do have recommendations of local companies that can help you out. We have recommendations with all different skill sets and price ranges.

Copy

Aside from images, another valuable asset to your website is your verbiage. While NEXTFLY does offer content writing services, no one knows your business and your voice better than you. To have a high ranking site you will want to have as much text on your pages as possible. We suggest having 750 words or more per page on your site. The more content you have on each page the more our Search Engine Optimization Specialist have to work with when optimizing your site.

We understand that not everyone has the time to come up with this much wording. This is just a rule of thumb, if you have to have less text, it is important to have well worded copy. You want your clients to come to your site and easily understand your business and what you offer.

Need a Professional Blogger?

Did you know that to rank high on Google, you need to add content to your website regularly? Though adding content to your website won’t show immediate results, it will rank you higher over time and the best way to do that is to hire a professional blogger. There isn’t an exact time frame of how often you need to update your website with new content, but at NEXTFLY Web Design, we recommend doing it at least monthly and the more content or blog pages you add, the higher chance you have of getting noticed.

SEO and Content Writing

SEO (search engine optimization) is also a huge part of getting noticed online. When you use SEO in your content pages, you are casting a wider net to get views on your website, which can lead to you getting more potential customers. If you are interested in SEO or learning about its importance of it, check out this article.

A lot of businesses utilize content writing and blogging for their websites. These content pages can be anything from in-depth information about their business to the products or services they provide. They can be about anything you would like to highlight about your company.

Do I Need a Blog for My Business?

The real question here is do you need a professional blogger for your website? Some companies don’t see the value in hiring a professional content writer for their website, but here are a few questions to help you determine if you do:

Do I want more exposure online for my business?

Do my customers have a lot of questions about my services and/ or products?

Am I lacking in content for my social media?

Do I need help strengthening my brand?

Are strong connections with my customers and clients important?

Do my competitors have a blog?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then it is time for you to think about starting a blog for your business.

Images have an impact on creating an online experience for users. Yet using high-quality images can sometimes result in file sizes causing web pages to load and frustrate users. Optimization is vital to finding the balance between aesthetics and performance. We will delve into some suggestions and techniques that can help you optimize your website’s images effectively. By doing so, you’ll ensure your website loads quickly while still maintaining its appeal.

Why Image Optimization Matters

Before we explore optimization strategies, it’s essential to grasp the importance of image optimization in web development. The value of image optimization can be condensed into the following points;

Page Load Speed

Images can sometimes be the components of a web page. Images that are not optimized can considerably hinder your website’s loading speed, resulting in a user experience and higher bounce rates.

SEO Benefits

Websites that load quickly are highly valued by search engines. When you optimize your images, it enhances the performance of your website, leading to improvements in your search engine rankings.

Bandwidth Consumption

Unoptimized images can use up bandwidth, resulting in hosting expenses for website owners, especially if they have a website that receives a lot of traffic.

Mobile Responsiveness

Given the prevalence of browsing, it’s increasingly crucial to optimize images. Mobile users often face limitations, and images that load slowly can render a website unusable on their devices.

User Experience

A pleasing website has the power to attract and keep users engaged. By optimizing the images, on your site, you can achieve a blend of appeal and quicker loading times, ultimately enhancing the overall user experience.

Optimizing Images for Web

Now that we’ve grasped the significance of optimizing images, let’s delve into pointers and strategies to accomplish this;

Choose the Right Image Format

The first thing you need to do when optimizing images is to choose the image format. JPEG, PNG, and GIF are the used formats for web images.

JPEG: JPEGs are perfect for capturing photos and images with color transitions. They provide a balance between compression and image quality. You can customize compression depending on your image quality and file size requirements.

PNG: PNGs are well suited for transparent images and edged graphics, like logos and icons. Although PNGs tend to be larger than JPEGs, they provide lossless compression.

GIF: This format works well for animations and graphics with a color palette. However, if you’re dealing with photographs, JPEG or PNG is recommended, as they offer quality and flexibility.

Compress Images

Compression plays a role in minimizing the file size while maintaining their quality. Tools and techniques that can be utilized to compress images:

Online Image Compression Tools
You can use websites like TinyPNG, ImageOptim, and Squoosh to upload images and reduce their file size while maintaining quality.

Plugins and Software
If you use content management systems such as WordPress some plugins can automatically compress images when you upload them. Alternatively, you can also utilize software like Adobe Photoshop, which offers image compression features.

Lossless vs. Lossy Compression
Lossless compression keeps all the details of an image. It may not lead to substantial reductions in file size. On the contrary lossy compression can significantly decrease the file size; however, there might be a compromise on the quality of the image.

Resize Images Appropriately

Using image files that are larger than necessary can increase the time it takes for your website to load. It’s always an idea to resize your images to match the dimensions needed for your website. If your website has versions for screen sizes (such as responsive design) you might consider using different images that are optimized specifically for each screen.

Leverage Browser Caching

Caching techniques allow you to store images in a user’s browser. This enables faster loading times for repeat visitors, as the images can be retrieved from the cache than downloading them.

Consider Lazy Loading

Lazy loading is a method that involves loading images when they become visible to the user. Adopting this approach effectively reduces the time it takes for a webpage to initially load and conserves bandwidth by loading images as users scroll through the page.

Use Content Delivery Networks (CDNs)

Content delivery networks (CDNs) store duplicates of your images on servers spread across the globe. When users access your website, images are retrieved from the server to their location resulting in loading times and reduced latency.

Optimize Image Metadata

Sometimes the information embedded in an image like EXIF data can make the file size larger than necessary. To make the file size smaller, you can simplify the metadata associated with the image.

Test and Monitor Performance

Check your website’s performance with tools like Google PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix. Keep an eye on loading times and make necessary tweaks to enhance image optimization if required.

Optimizing Images for Web

Optimizing images for the web is a critical aspect of web development as it directly affects how users experience websites and their overall performance. By choosing the image format compressing images resizing them correctly, and implementing caching and lazy loading techniques, you can achieve a harmonious blend of visual attractiveness and quick-loading web pages. Remember to test and monitor your website’s performance to ensure optimization. Enjoy optimizing your images!

From shipping options, store management add-ons, marketing tools, payment gateways, and more, WooCommerce’s extensive add-on library will help you build out the perfect storefront for your business even if you are not techsavy.

The biggest question we hear is “Is WooCommerce the best solution for my store?” In most cases the answer is yes, WooCommerce is robust enough for small businesses that have just a handful of products all the way up to large enterprises with large inventories. WooCommerce is also able to accept payment from around the word and from various companies with their ability to sync with multiple payment gateways.

What is a Payment Gateway for WooCommerce and Why Do I Need One?

Now that we have dipped our toes in water of WoCommerce and WordPress, it is time to better understand how to actually get those payments from your website and into your bank account! That is where a payment gateway comes into play! A payment gateway facilitates your bank with the processing of payments from the site like a translator. Some of the payment gateways you may have heard of before include, Authorize.net, Stripe, PayPal, Square, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and many more. These payment gateways allow you to take payments such as debit, credit, and digital payments to give your clients more than one way to make a purchase. There are also options for international payment gateways such as Worldpay.

All of these gateways are added to your WooCommerce site with an additional plugin. A majority of these plugins allow your visitors to pay for your products or services without having to leave your website. When you allow customers to pay directly fro your website instead of navigating away, it offers trust and reliability to your business. In turn this will lead to more sales and higher customer loyalty.

There are many free and paid versions of different payment gateways, but it is extremely important to find a plugin with good reviews, active updates, and numerous previous downloads to be sure you are adding a reputable gateway to your website. Many of these payment gateways also include reporting and management dashboards to help you keep track of your sales and transactions. This will allow you to be able to run your business smoothly.
