NMC: So how is a M1, Big Kahuna National different than other AMA races?

Cameron Gray: Our motto is come for the party, stay for the races. The racing is already good, all those talented riders out there are impressive atheletes and it’s always entertaining. Our other motto is that we just need to get people back to the track which means we have to take care of the fans who are there, get back the fans that left and find ways to bring new, outside industry people who have not been to our races come experience what we put on.

NMC: What makes up the M1 “Party” at these events?

Cameron Gray: When people show up to our events we have everything from exotic animals, snake shows, a cafe racer village, a crazy tattoo bus that shows up with amazing tattoo artist, Rock-a-billy bands. We reach out to motorcycle clubs and set up booths for them to come watch the race and listen to the music that they want to hear. We will have the past sport moto grand prix where we bring past champions back on their old TZ race bikes, and the list goes on, we try to create everything for everybody. Ricky Gadsen is talking about coming to our events and doing drag demos so people can see drag racing, you name it and we bring it to the events.

NMC: What advantage does M1 have in making these events successful, fun, memorable events?

Cameron Gray: The difference between us is that the tracks, and some of them do a good job but they have to run a facility. We don’t, which allows us to focus on these events 24/7. It allows us to do more, we’re doing a Big Kahuna Birthday bash this year for the kids and we already have a dozen signed up. Instead of going to Chucky Cheese they come out here, have a party under the Yamaha tent, Josh Hayes brings the cake out, we put them up on the Podium, put them up on the big screen, it’s going to be a blast. We’re always trying to think outside the box, we’ll even have 3 announcers at Atlanta, Barry Boone, Brian Drebber and Danielle Teal to keep fans informed and entertained.

NMC: With all this extra stuff I’m guessing that the ticket price for a Big Kahuna event is going to be higher than other events?

Cameron Gray: No it’s not, the ticket price will be the same as other events and with our ticket prices I don’t like to have separate paddock passes, I like all the fans to be able to go through and experience it all. This means free parking, free paddock passes a one stop shop for all racing fans.

NMC: Sounds cool, where are these events going to be this year?

Cameron Gray: The first Big Kahuna is April 20th – 22nd at Road Atlanta, then Homestead Miami Speedway September 21st – 23 and the third event will be at NOLA Motorsports park in NewOrleans October 5th – 7th.

Flushing and bleeding your brake system at least once per year is essential for maintaining optimum performance from your brakes. In the past, bleeding or flushing brakes meant juggling wrenches, hoses, waste brake fluid bottles, clean up rags, etc. Now Motion Pro has introduced the new Mini Bleeder, a tool that incorporates many different bleeding tools in one compact package and makes this essential job a lot easier.

Your brakes are perhaps the most important component on your bike in terms of safety and control and regular brake fluid changes are essential to proper operation. However, bleeding brakes is a job that is not a whole lot of fun and, if you get brake fluid on your nice paint job, it can be very messy and potentially destructive. Nobody likes to make a mess, so sometimes this job get neglected, which is not a good thing at all because it can compromise the effectiveness of your brakes.

Aside from having enough pad material in the calipers, the brake fluid and it’s condition is the most important part of your brake system. Without going into a lot of technical details, heat and time will reduce the performance of the fluid. One of the most detrimental aspects is that most brake fluids attract water, which is quickly absorbed into the fluid, and has a much lower boiling point than the fluid itself. If enough water gets into the fluid, and you get it hot enough, the water will boil, introducing gas pockets into your hydraulic system, and resulting in your brake lever heading straight to the handlebar, a bad deal in any situation.

The Mini Bleeder Tool fits calipers with an 8 mm bleeder nipple. The interior rubber seal fits snugly around the nipple of the bleeder to prevent leakage of brake fluid. The built in floating wrench handle features 12 points on a 6 point hex on the tool body, making the handle micro adjustable for position on the body, allowing it to be used in super tight spaces. The short length of the handle reduces the chance of over torquing the bleeder. There is a one way check valve inside the body of the tool, greatly reducing fluid spillage when moving the tool from the bleed screw, and also allowing fast fluid flushing when desired.

Using the tool is very simple. The Mini bleeder hose should be routed to a brake fluid catch bottle, and then you simply connect the Mini Bleeder to the bleed screw, and start bleeding. You can perform the job in two ways, standard bleeding, where you build pressure in the closed system by stroking the brake lever, and then open the bleeder to allow fluid and air to flow out, and then closing the bleed screw before releasing the brake lever. This method is best for removing air from the system as a final process. The alternate method is to use the Mini Bleeder as a flushing tool, simply opening the bleed screw and leaving it open while pumping the brake lever to flush the fluid through the system. The check valve in the Mini Bleeder body will keep the fluid flowing out only, and all you have to do is keep the reservoir filled until the fluid runs clean out of the Mini Bleeder. Then finish off the job with the standard bleeding method to remove any leftover air, and you are ready to go. As you remove the Mini Bleeder, there will be a tiny amount of fluid left in the bleeder, so keep a small rag handy, but it is a much cleaner job than just a hose and a wrench!

The Mini Bleeder is available now from your favorite Motion Pro dealer and has a suggested retail price of just $24.99, a bargain price for the advantages this cool little tool offers. For more information visit: http://www.motionpro.com

Some riders are lucky enough to get the support they need to race at a young age. Others have to wait until they can get to a point in life where they can afford to race. Age is a state of mind and you can be a Next Moto Champion at any age; case in point, Bob Scholten. With a true passion for the sport Bob is training, riding and racing his way to what he hopes is a WERA West 1st place Championship in the Novice class in his first year of racing. After a full practice day on Friday, a confident Scholten takes Saturday off. “I was trying to save money on tires but I won’t do that again, I should have went for more track time on Saturday.” The first race on Sunday was more practice than a race, but Bob was able to pass a rider on the last lap to finish 5th. In the second race Bob had more trouble in turn one and ran deep while getting passed by a couple riders, he ended up in 5th.
a confident Scholten takes Saturday off. I stopped by in between races, Bob was talking to his team and says “I know what I’m doing wrong and I’m going to fix it for this next race.” Scholten does just that and starts his third race of the day by getting the hole shot. From there, he never looked back, turn one was no match for the focus and determination of this rider and he even started to pass experts as he took the Novice win. After the race Bob said “It’s a long season I’ve got the points lead in SRHW, tied in Formula1 and two points down in A Superbike so I cant wait to get back to Vegas and hopefully regain the points in all three. I would not be able to do this with out the help of my Family and sponsors ,Temecula Motorsports,AGV Helmets,Chicken Hawk Racing,ProBolt, Sharkskinz, Surf City Nissan, NMC, Arnette,Vortex,EBC,Pirelli, and Ohlis.”
