I sit crisscross on the floor, a fuzzy blanket wrapped around my shoulders like a wizard’s robe. The room feels still, like the whole Universe is holding its breath, waiting with me. The glow of the screen lights up the walls, making shadows dance like they’re alive. My heart beats a little faster because I just know this is going to be one of those stories—the kind that sticks to your soul.

It begins with a man, and right away, I feel my chest tighten. He’s just… died. That’s how it starts. He’s standing in this big, endless space, and there’s someone with him. Or something. It’s hard to tell what it is, but it feels powerful, like the sky on a stormy day. The man looks nervous, like maybe he doesn’t know if this is going to be good or bad.

The voice speaks, deep and calm, like the rumble of thunder far away. It says he’s not just him. He’s everyone. I blink, tilting my head. Everyone? How can that be? I pull my blanket tighter around me, feeling a tiny shiver—not from being scared, but from the bigness of it all.

The man doesn’t believe it at first. I don’t blame him. How can one person be everyone who’s ever lived? It sounds like something from a dream, but the voice keeps explaining, and slowly, it starts to make sense in a way that’s bigger than words. It’s like the Universe is whispering its secrets to me.

Every person the man has been flashes through my mind like sparks from a campfire. A mother holding her baby. A soldier in battle. A child blowing dandelions into the wind. A thief sneaking through the shadows. He’s all of them, and they’re all him. My chest feels warm and tingly, like I just drank hot cocoa too fast.

The voice says, “The whole Universe is an Egg. And you… are hatching.” My breath catches. I can almost hear the crackle of a shell breaking open, see golden light spilling out like sunlight after a storm. My fingers curl into the edge of my blanket as I lean forward, my nose nearly touching the screen.

The man listens as the voice explains that life isn’t about being separate. It’s about being one—one story, one breath, one giant, shimmering web of everything that ever was or will be. I can feel it, like the air around me is humming with magic.

I think about all the people I know, the ones I love and the ones who make me mad. If the story is true, they’re all me. Even the ones I don’t like. I wrinkle my nose at the thought but can’t stop smiling at the idea that maybe we’re all just playing different parts in the same grand play.

When the story ends, the screen goes dark, but I stay frozen in place, my mind buzzing like fireflies. The room feels different, fuller, like I’m not just sitting there alone anymore. I close my eyes, and it’s like I can see the whole Universe swirling inside me, glowing and infinite.

The story isn’t just about the man. It’s about me. About all of us. I feel small, like a tiny star in the sky, but also big, like the whole sky itself. I take a deep breath and let the feeling wrap around me like my blanket—warm and endless.

I’m sitting here, flipping through my journal from 2015, chuckling at my own creativity. It’s one of those days when I need a good laugh, and this entry never fails. It’s my list of Nope cities, my funny way of saying a firm ‘no’ to nonsense and foolishness. I read them out loud, each one bringing a bigger smile.

Nopetopolis, I start, imagining a city where every street sign just says Nope. Nopesville, where the mayor probably greets everyone with a friendly ‘Nope’ instead of hello. Nopington, I continue, picturing a grand town hall with a giant neon NOPE sign. I can’t help but laugh.

Then there’s Nopelia and Nopeng, where I imagine even the birds chirp ‘nope’ instead of their usual songs. Cape of Good Nope sounds like a place where you turn back if you forgot why you were going there in the first place. Nopeyo, New Nope, and Sau Nopelo roll off my tongue, each one sounding funnier than the last.

Nopeo City and Nopenila sound like capitals of the Nope Nation, where the only law is to reject anything that doesn’t bring joy or peace. Nopembai and Nopelhi make me think of bustling, vibrant cities where everyone is just too busy saying ‘nope’ to bother with anything less than fabulous.

Nopekarta and Nopegos come next, followed by Nopekata and Nopeairo, the latter probably being a desert city where mirages are just different forms of ‘nope’. Nope Angeles and Nope Aires sound like they’re sister cities, famous for their ‘Nope’ Hollywood sign and tango dancers who elegantly say ‘nope’ mid-dance.

Then there’s Nope de Janeiro, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer has his hands outstretched as if saying, ‘Nope, not today’. Nopeinnati and Nopenhagen make me giggle, thinking of all the Nope Vikings and Nope Bengals around. Nopeland sounds like an amusement park where every ride is just a different way of saying ‘nope’.

Nopeside and Nope Town sound like cozy, little places where everyone knows each other’s ‘nope’ preferences. St. Nope must be the patron saint of boundaries, and Nopengham sounds like a place where Robin Hood steals from the rich and gives ‘nopes’ to the poor.

I close my journal, still smiling. It’s funny how a simple word, turned into imaginary cities, can bring so much joy. It’s a reminder that setting boundaries can be as creative and playful as we make it.
