The old addage “there is strength in numbers” finds a new application online, with thousands of bloggers focusing their efforts on one day to reach millions of readers and our world’s leaders. Greg Krause, a 39 year old recent med school grad, took advantage of Jet Blue’s 30 Days of Travel promotion to do some good for this world….

By purchasing a $599 30 Days of Travel ticket, Greg has the option to travel as often, and as far, as he’d like using Jet Blue for 30 days.  So where’s he going?  Greg plans to travel around the world to raise money for a school in Zambia founded by his parents for orphaned and abandoned children.

Beginning and ending in Chicago, Greg “will fly more than 55,000 miles and visit 27 cities in five countries to spread the word about the school.”

We love art. Art knows no bounds – it can inspire, incite, make a loud statement, or whisper a quiet beauty. It can speak to us in so many ways, and yet it is easy to forget the artist behind the artwork. But the Alaska Native Arts Foundation hasn’t forgotten. This non-profit’s objectives are to:

Improve the economic well being of Alaska Native artists;  Invigorate education and training of the next generation of Alaska Native artists;  Increase awareness of Alaska Native cultures and create opportunities to inform about the diverse cultural expressions of Alaska’s indigenous peoples; and, Stimulate demand for and help establish fair market pricing for works of art by Alaska Native people.

This is an effort that would be near and dear to Go-boy’s heart. And beyond the good work that the organization is doing, it’s just so cool to be introduced to artists and a kind of ethnic art we might otherwise never know. Go-boy’s Unalakleet lies between two regions: that of the Inupiat Eskimos in the north and Yup’ik Eskimos to the south, and on the Alaska Native Arts website you can check out artists from these regions (and others): Inupiat and Yup’ik. Neat!

A dozen or so good souls get together the first of every month on Valencia Street in San Francisco to spread the love around. Laden with peanut butter, jelly, bread, those flimsy plastic knives- that cut nothing but your fingers- and sandwich bags, this crew makes up peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and passes them out to the homeless – right there on the corner! No foundation, no federal subsidy, no vouchers. Just a group of good samaritans following their hearts….it’s The Peanut Butter Plan.

The idea began with Jory John, a children’s book author, who first posted the plan on Facebook. Over the past few months, peanut butter and jelly teams have handed out sandwiches in Los Angeles, Berkley, Phoenix, Little Rock, Austin and London.
