We are continuing to work out alternate plans for ILL deliveries across the state during our driver shortage. Below is a list of the changes for next week, June 29 through July 3. Any routes not specifically listed should proceed as usual -- barring any unexpected illnesses, abduction by aliens, or winning of the lottery.

JUNE 30 (Tuesday)
NC regular route cancelled. Instead, an NC Hub Route will run. Hub libraries: Northumberland, Colebrook, Lancaster (Weeks Memorial), and Lincoln. ** Please notify us if you wish to pick up your ILL items from a hub, and which one. 😊 Thanks! [in a change to the original plan, Whitefield will not be a hub for Tuesday]]

JULY 1 (Wednesday)
Normal day! The full NC Wednesday route will run with a substitute driver.

Normal day.

Holiday - INDEPENDENCE DAY OBSERVED. NHSL closed, no ILL van routes running.

NC Hub ILL Delivery Route planned - Friday, 6/26

As you are aware, due to driver illness we have had to cancel and modify our North Country routes. We are planning a make-up NC route for Friday, June 26th but due to staff shortages it will operate a little differently than usual.

We have selected three centrally located libraries to serve as drop points, or “hubs”. If you would like to drop off your materials at one of these hub libraries by the end of the day today, we will pick them up. (see list below)

Additionally, if you would like to pick up your materials at one of these hub libraries, please let us know NO LATER THAN 4:00 PM TODAY (THURSDAY, JUNE 25TH). This is so that we can plan to bring your items and leave them at the hub library. Let us know which library you are using as a hub, and you will be able to pick up your materials after we’ve dropped them off.

We are aware of the short notice of this message and appreciate your flexibility.

Brief ILL outage Tue 6/23 10pm

The NHAIS ILL System will be offline briefly starting at 10 o'clock tonight (Tuesday, June 23). Software will be updated but users won't see any changes in the ILL program.

ILL System Contract Approved

At the Governor & Council meeting on June 17, 2026 our request for a three-year extension to our contract with Auto-Graphics for the NHAIS ILL System was approved. If you want to see all the details it was item #065 on the regular agenda. This extended contract takes us through to June 30, 2029.

In 2028 we will begin the process of issuing an RFP for the next iteration of NHAIS Interlibrary Loan.

NC van makeup route Mon 6/22

More Request Manager modifications Tue 6/9 10pm

The NHAIS ILL System will be offline briefly tonight (Tuesday, June 9) starting at 10 o'clock. This will allow installation of software updates that include further enhancements to the Request Manager screen based on feedback following changes made two months ago.

With this update, you'll see a larger font size on the Request Manager page and the red dots will go away, with the same "unreviewed notes" icon you see elsewhere in the program replacing the dots.

Users will now see a search box to the left of the display tabs. This will allow you to narrow the statuses displayed to those that include, for example, "patron" or "pending" in the status name.

Clicking on the Borrower heading near the top of the Request Manager screen will take you to the Borrower Requests list and clicking on the Lender heading will take you to the Lender Requests page. This saves a step if you're looking for a request but don't find it in the expected status. When that happened in the past, you needed to go to Staff Dashboard > ILL Admin > Borrower [or Lender] Requests to look for a title and see its status. You can still do that but now you have the option of going straight to Borrower Requests or Lender Requests from the Request Manager.

There are other changes you'll see only if you use the All tab when viewing the Request Manager page (but remember that the Active tab shows you what you really need to see). Statuses with a count of zero will no longer display as grayed out. Also, in the last two months statuses that are not used in the NHAIS ILL System (like ILL Review and Passed to Local System) have been included in the All display. These inactive statuses will no longer be seen.

Linked data and URIs -- #6 Example of a Relator URI

The 100 field for the author in our example bib record also contains a third URI in a subfield $4.

As stated in an earlier post, URIs may now be used in subfield $4 to link to records that provide information about the relationship/relator codes that catalogers have been using for a while in this subfield.

The URI in the second subfield $4 of this example:

Date on shipping labels

From the NHAIS Help Desk mailbox:

Would it be possible to have the “Date:” on the printout reflect the actual day it will go out on the van? I change the shipping date in the request and try to remember to leave a note in the lending library request box, but the shipping date always reflects the current date, not the actual date of the van pick up.

While most of what you see on the shipping labels is drawn from the request record (what you see on the Borrower's or Lender's Full Record Display pages), the date isn't. It's not the Request Date, Due Date, Date Shipped, Need by Date, Date Received, Date Returned, Date Checked In, or Respond by Date--all of which can appear in the request record depending on the request’s status. The date you see on shipping labels simply reflects the day the Format to Print button was used to display and (presumably) print the labels. Changing that to Date Shipped is not an option but you're welcome to write whatever else you want on shipping labels.

Linked data and URIs— #5 Example of a Real World Object URI

When you searched on the URI in the subfield $0, you were brought to an authority record for the name “Colin Murphy.” When you search on the URI found in the subfield $1, on the other hand, you’re brought to a description of the person behind this name:

Some of the fields found in this record are the same as those found in his authority record (such as “Occupation”). However, notice that the “Sources” listed in the authority record from the last post (which appear in 670 fields in the traditional authority record) don’t appear. The sources consulted by a cataloger to establish the authorized form of Colin Murphy’s name are important information to include in an authority record describing his name, but not in the “Real World Object” (RWO) record describing the person behind the name.

One other thing to note about these two types of records is that they have fields with links that refer to each other. The authority record has an “Identifies RWO” field with a URI pointing to the “real world object” record for the person Colin Murphy, and the “real world object” record has an “Is Identified By Authority” field with a URI pointing to the authority record for his name:

new Undo Received and improved Undo Shipped

The NHAIS ILL System will be offline briefly tonight (Tuesday, May 26) for a software update starting at 10 o'clock.

-A new Undo Received option will be available to borrowers. Choosing Undo Received will move the request back to its prior status (Shipped, Recalled, Not Received, or Not Received/Overdue).

-The Undo Shipped option for lenders will be available for a longer time than in the past. Undo Shipped is an option for requests in Shipped, Not Received, Not Received/Overdue, and Recalled status and will now be available until the request is updated to Received by the borrower. When the lender chooses Undo Shipped, the request moves back to Pending status and the "Respond by" date is recalculated (lenders have three full days and a fraction of a fourth to respond to a request before it's automatically forwarded to the next potential lender on the lender list).

-When a request is placed on an item with only one or two valid ISBNs or ISSNs, the remaining blank fields for additional ISBNs or ISSNs in the request record were editable. This allowed the user to add invalid or incorrect identifiers to the request, resulting in a failed request. With this release, when there is at least one valid ISBN or ISSN on the source record, the fields will be read-only.
