Ministry of Food £80,000 for Cooking Skills

Rotherham’s Ministry of Food has received £80,000 from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT) to help 480 people to increase their cooking skills by March 2013.

The funding will provide cooking courses in the community and at the town centre shop, by working closely with local groups to access people who need some support.

The funding will also support the Ministry of Food to provide a further 30 volunteering opportunities, giving Rotherham people the chance to explore if a job in catering is of interest to them.

GPs in Call to Talk About Poo

GPs in Rotherham are backing a national bowel cancer campaign by urging people to talk openly about their poo to broach the topic of common bowel cancer symptoms.

Bowel cancer in its early stages is curable but general awareness of early symptoms such as blood in poo or looser poo, for more than three weeks, is low. In Rotherham there are around 190 cases of bowel cancer each year. The disease affects both men and women and is responsible for more than 13,000 deaths a year, making it the UK’s second biggest cancer killer.
