The Perfect Stocking Filler

If you know someone who likes to run, jog or walk encourage them to get involved in the Addiction NI 40th Anniversary Race to Recovery 2019.   We wanted our 40th Anniversary Race to be the biggest and best to date.

It also means they will be able to relax and enjoy Christmas knowing that they have a healthy goal for 2019.  With both 10K & 3K routes available there is something to suit all abilities and there will be plenty of time to get in shape.

Professional runners, joggers, families, pram pushers, dog walkers and Sunday strollers are all more than welcome to join the fun.

 David Mulholland - Cycle for Addiction NI
In March my mother passed away having suffered with alcoholism for many years. I’ve also decided this year that I’m going to stop living a sedentary lifestyle and get fit. I decided to set myself a few challenges and also hopefully raise some money for a cause that’s close to my heart. I (and my family) have seen first hand the effects that alcohol (and addiction) can have both on the person and the wider family and I’d love to do something to help others in that situation. I will always wish my mum had been more accepting of support – but in the least by supporting Addiction NI we can help to make sure the support is there for others.Until the start of the year – I had barely been on a bike in about 10 years. Now I’m riding about 3-4 hours a week but have signed up for two challenges later this year.
Challenge: Riding (with a friend – David Tucker) from Edinburgh back to Sawbridgeworth over 5 days. The journey will be at least 450 miles and quite a lot of that is fairly hilly as well. This will be a huge undertaking but the train to Edinburgh is already booked so it’s happening now…

Many thanks for your patience and understanding regarding the postponement of Sunday’s Race to Recovery.  Please see below updated details regarding pack collections

PACK COLLECTION

Participants can pick up their packs including t-shirt and time-chip (10K Runners only) from the Ozone Indoor Tennis Centre on

Saturday 10th March – 10:00 – 12:00

Sunday 11th March – 08:30 – 09:30

We have a large number of entries this year so we are encouraging participants to collect their packs on Saturday if possible.

REGISTRATION

If you have not registered online you can register for the 10K Race and 3K Fun Run at the  Ozone Indoor Tennis Centre on

Saturday 10th March – 10:00 – 12:00

Sunday 11th March – 08:30 – 09:30

10K registration on the day £20

3K registration on the day £5

NEW ROUTES

Due to the PSNI no longer providing road closures for charity races the Race to Recovery 10K & 3K route has been changed this day and the starting point will now be by the tennis courts and not on Ormeau Embankment.

The route will be well marshalled by please take a minute to familiarise yourself with the route.

PARKING

Is available within the grounds of the Ozone Tennis Centre.  Please be aware that there is another event taking place in the park that day so please arrive early to secure a parking space.  There is additional on street parking available on the Ravenhill & Ormeau Road.

CHANGING ROOM FACILITIES

All runners will have use of the changing rooms in the Indoor Tennis Centre on the day.

What is Dry January?

Dry January is the annual movement through which millions of people give up alcohol for the month of January.

Doing Dry January:

  • Enables you to take control of your relationship with alcohol.
  • Drives a conversation about alcohol: why do we drink it, what does it do, and how can we reduce the harm it can cause?

Alcohol Concern brings together an amazing network of individuals and organisations, including partner charities who work on issues associated with alcohol. Together, we will reduce the harm caused by alcohol.

There are loads of reasons for taking part in Dry January, Here are just a few:

  • Reset your relationship with alcohol
  • New year, new you – do Dry January and feel healthier and happier as:
    • you sleep better
    • your skin improves
    • you lose weight
    • improved mental and emotional health
  • More money in your pocket (the average person spends £50,000 on booze in their lifetime)
  • Get healthier – through giving up alcohol for a month you do your insides a lot of good.
  • Amazing sense of achievement!

If we could come up with a new health supplement or discovered a superfood that had all those benefits, we’d be millionaires. But instead we aim to offer the help, advice and encouragement to let you get these benefits yourself, all for free.

Dry January will make a difference to you as you save money, feel great and look fabulous – but it can make a difference to others too.
