I see compound adjectives when people say them … on the radio, in person. Like, I see the hyphen; it flashes in my head. Weird. In other news, I cooked red snapper and asparagus tonight, and then, while enjoying a cheap bottle of red wine, read several of the letters you guys have been sending me. I’m really impressed. Over the last year, I’ve enjoyed a friendship with the artist Tom Everhart. We live near each other in Los Angeles. Some of my best mornings are when he invites me to join him for coffee at the local café—where he’ll often regale me with stories of the time he spent in New York with his friends and fellow artists Basquiat and Warhol.

Wildly talented, intelligent, and generous with advice on creating art and staying disciplined, Tom Everhart quickly became one of my heroes. I mean, this guy has taken the thing that he loves and made it his life … something I’ve always dreamed of doing.

I should also mention that Tom is the only artist in the world officially permitted to paint Snoopy. Tom’s good friend, Charles Schulz, arranged a contract that allowed Tom to use the subject for the “term of his life.”

I took this photo from within his studio. I love that Snoopy is staring so endearingly at his new father.
