Useful: BuySellAds

Most of us would welcome generating a little extra cash from our websites, especially if it involved little work. That is where the online advertising comes in. Most of us have heard of Google Adsense, which generates money on a pay-per-click system. One that I am trying out is BuySellAds.com, which has various options.

What If: Guy Fawkes

Guy Fawkes, born on 13th April 1570 in Yorkshire, is a name almost everyone in the UK will know. After his father’s death in 1579, his mother remarried and it is known the family were then against, and resisting, the authority of the Church of England. Guy Fawkes finally converted to Catholicism when in his mid teens. At this period, religion was a big part of life and Catholicism was not the religion to be in. Catholics were openly persecuted, with harsh punishments. For example, Margaret Clitherow was caught harbouring Catholics and was punished by being crushed to death.

Book Review: Drupal 6 Site Blueprints

Anyone who knows me knows I love to use the Drupal Content Management System (CMS). In my opinion Drupal is relatively easy to use, although it can be daunting knowing how to configure the system to accomplish the desired working website. For example, setting up a blog with Drupal is easy, but how do you add a gallery? What if you would like to pull RSS feeds from another source or even run an e-commerce website?

Bits and bytes

I am getting more and more amazed that people, especially those in the computer industry and even teachers and academics, do not know the difference between Megabits (Mb) and MegaBytes (MB). I keep seeing things like "This computer has a 120Gb hard disk" when it should be 120GB. There is a big difference. If it was 120Gb, then in real terms it is only a 15GB drive. People get it sorted, Bytes is a big B, bits is a little b and Bytes is for storage and bits for transmission.

What If: Space Race

The Space Race was a competition, not in the traditional sense, between United States and the Soviet Union to get in to space. The Soviets launched Sputnik 1 on 4th October 1957 into Earth orbit. This was the first time a man-made object had been launched from the Earth’s surface and placed into space.
