Singapore: Gardens By The Bay - Finally, I get to visit the Gardens By The Bay in Singapore. I've wanted to go there already, but it was either too lazy or too tired to walk across the highway to reach there from Marina Bay Sands. This time was different cause it's a road trip and I drove and parked directly in the garden (SG$0.02/minute for parking). =D

Super Trees are impressive, the idea, but they are too bald right now. Somehow the whole 'Gardens By The Bay' concept failed to impress me because it's a concrete garden! There's no green grass field and it's more like Tree-less Gardens By The Bay to me. Imagine going there in the day time, hot die you I assure!

Singapore: CBD & Merlion Park - For the first time, without the parents sitting beside or driving, I drove a Malaysian vehicle on the Singapore's road, it was a road trip with my dear Clarice last weekend and it was a great one.

Went into the Central Business District of Singapore Downtown Core to enjoy being flooded in the tall city and beautiful sky scrappers. The small city of Singapore is just so awesome that the road are so wide, clean and linear that I suddenly felt that Malaysia is like so far behind. Undeniable, Singapore's city is world class.

A visit to Merlion Park is a must if you are a first-timer. Although I have been there before, yet I do not want to miss the opportunity to visit there with Clarice and take photos together. =D Not to mention, it has a nice panaromic view of Singapore together with the famous Merlion statue. But be prepare to be annoyed but the huge number of tourists. XD

I really admire the way the Singapore create tourist attractions and city planning, why they can, we cannot?! Blahh... I believe Penang has the opportunity, but I am not sure about other city.

Experiencing Differences With The Youth's Spirit! - Last month of April 2013, there was a grand event at Grand Dorsett Hotel, Subang Jaya which announced the collaboration between Ninetology, Tune Talk and Qualcomm.

Visit To University Of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus - Went to an excursion to Kajang yesterday, to find a friend at University of Nottingham. A very nice and prestige UK university, but located in the middle of a rural green forest, very near to Broga Hill. I know it's good for the student to concentrate on studies when the campus is located very far from the city, but I find the place quite rural and there's nothing much around the town.

Anyway, the friend was Yiphing, she brought me around the campus to check it out. It's quite cool and green, and a lot bigger than Taylor's University (that I am in), as well as peaceful. It has a modern architecture campus building, similar to UTAR, but somehow, I just don't like the location. I am more a city person. :D Did I mention it's about an hour to the city centre?

Taipei Trip: Wu Fen Pu & Raohe Night Market (Day 3) - First of all, do not visit Wu Fen Pu Wholesale Garment Market on a Monday (go on other day but not Monday), because the people will not entertain you or sell you anything. You can touch, you can see but you just can't buy! Sad, should have know this earlier. But nevermind, Raohe Night Market is just a stone throw away, we headed to the night market after a quick disappointed walk in Wu Fen Pu.

I've read on the net that Raohe Night Market is one of the good night market in Taipei. To be honest, it's good, in term of food choices, but not shopping. There's nothing much to shop, eat is number one here, buy is number zero. Of course, do pay a visit to this place, because you can find some good eat here! Weather turned a bit colder when night falls, so visiting the night market was not a warm one.

As usual, night markets in Taipei are filled with tourists, of course locals too. The first thing to do, visit the the temple, go to the public washroom (temples are the good place for free public toilet) and have the hands washed, then we started the night market exploration.

Wu Jiao Bing (Pepper Biscuit) is a must try because there's many people queuing for it. HAHA. It's Chinese-style biscuit stuffed with a whole lot of pepper-marinated meat and yes, it's indeed delicious.

Interestingly, there's many this game store where you can win teddy bear. Only in Taiwan. (Raohe Night Market)

Herbal Pork Ribs Soup. Must try. There's so many stalls at there, and you must be thinking which is the best. Well, they are they same to me. (Raohe Night Market)

Lu Rou Fan, all-time favourite. (Raaohe Night Market)

Herbal Pork Ribs Soup is another must try at there. The fragrance of Chinese herbs is very strong and tasty together with the essence of pork ribs. Well, it's a modified version of our Bak Kut Teh I would say, but with a stronger herb taste and lighter in colour. An addition of Lu Rou Fan (again) do serves the meal well.

Food doesn't stop coming to us at Raohe Night Market. We had exotic pork liver soup and a huge chicken drumstick cooked with sesame oil which I find it somewhat special, and good too!

What a food-ful night at Raohe, ended with a Taiwanese bubble tea. We were lazy to walk to the MRT and cab was the solution to go back to the hotel.

Taipei Trip: Visiting Taipei 101, Ding Tai Fung & Surroundings (Day 3) - Visiting the 3rd attractions, the once the tallest bamboo-shape building in the world - Taipei 101. If you ask me whether I like maize-shape building - Petronas KLCC or the bamboo-shape building - Taipei 101, I'll pick the maize. Come on, it's really not as magnificent as I thought. Petronas KLCC is sparking clean every day with shiny stainless steel frame, but the Taipei 101, looks old and dusty. They need some polish and cleaning.

I should have stop complaining now, it's still one of the greatest architecture success after all. :P Taipei 101, tallest building in Taiwan, and that's it. The one and only tall building in Taipei. If you do notice, there's not really many tall skyscrapers in Taipei.

BRANDED!

Inside it houses office as well as a shopping mall that includes all the high-end designers' label which will makes rich go WOW. It's a quiet mall on a Monday afternoon, Prada is very cheap in Taiwan as far as I know, comparing to other Asian country.

For food, Ding Tai Fung is a must try, because it's the number one restaurant on TripAdvisor! Don't expect it to be expensive because I find the food is quite reasonable. Food taste is great but what's even better is the service, you will know what I mean if you visit the restaurant. Young Taiwanese waitress, with their cute voices, you will just get goosebumps after a while and the service was just superb. Every worker has a smile on their face. Well, just not regretting visiting the number 1 restaurant.

After that, we walked towards to the MRT station which is rather far. Passed by Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, a departmental store with a funny long Japanese name where every department is allocate in one building. So men's section in one building, ladies' section in another. That's big!

Taipei: National Martyrs Shrine 國民革命忠烈祠

Previous: Chiang-Kai Shek Memorial Hall

Taipei Trip: National Martyrs Shrine (Day 3) - Not many people will visit this place except Chinese tourists in big tourist bus, or people who visited the Tripadvisor for attractions like me because you can only access this place by cab. It's just a shrine, dedicated to the war dead soldiers of Taiwan, but what interesting is checking out the changing of National Guard which makes it the main attraction of the place. Other than that, it's the Chinese architecture then that's it. Inside is just ancestral tlablets of the dead soldier, a bit creepy, it's more of a tourist attractions to me.

We were just so lucky to be in time to check out the changing of guards and it's really very cool I tell you. All the soldiers were very well synchronized. I wonder how much is their salary. HAHA.

Taipei Trip: Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall 國立中正紀念堂 (Day 3) - Talking about the must-visit in Taipei, the CKS Memorial Hall is one of it. Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall (in Mandarin it's not Jiang Kai Shek, but it's named as Jiang Jie Shi) also known as the Natioanl Taiwan Democracy Hall is a famous monument, landmark in Taiwan which is built in memory of former President of Taiwan - Chiang-Kai Shek.

The Memorial Hall Square has 3 Chinese architecture buildings surrounding it with National Concert Hall on the left, CKS Memorial Hall at the centre and National Theater on the right. A simple, clean square, yet evokes the feeling of Taiwanese patriotism.

It reads Freedom's Square.

Sky was not that beautiful for a photoshoot. Brother told me that if you go in the evening, you will get to see the National Guard changing the flag.

Taipei Trip: Walking To Long Shan Temple 龙山寺 (Day 3) - On the third day, weather in the morning was not anywhere colder, it's lower than Malaysia I believe, but still warm! The third day was basically just checking out the attractions in the city, first stop was the Long Shan Temple, somewhere 1.5KM from our hotel (Citizen Hotel). Since Taipei is a walking friendly city, we walked!

Of course, breakfast is a must before starting our day-long journey. We randomly found a shop selling Lu Rou Fan (Braised Pork Rice) and we headed in for a bowl of it with a side dish of spinach. Lovely head start of the day, but it doesn't really filled up our stomach. We were thirsty and not filling full, then we headed to another sandwich shop that sells beverage too and grab ourselves a sandwich and bubble tea. I wonder why the food outlets in Taipei don't sell drinks?

Street of Taipei is a bit like KL, and more like China, with both blends into one style, the Taiwanese Chinese style where buildings are very old and badly maintained. It's not a clean and beautiful city in my opinion. It's just culture-ful. We passed by another Chinese temple - Qing Shui Temple, prayed and we continued.

Then we reached the Long Shan Temple, one of the must-visit temple in Taipei for its long history and culture. It's a very famous one. The MRT station is just right opposite the temple only which is quite easy to access. I am not a very religious person, but I do like checking out temples and do a small prayers. Although the city is not as beautiful as ours, somehow their temples are very clean and well-maintained, that's something we should learn about.

Taipei: Ximending (Night)

Taipei Trip: Ximending (Night) (Day 2) - The one-day trip didn't end up at Keelung Night Market, we spent about 2 hours at there and we couldn't continue anymore because of the super huge crowds at there. We hopped on a cab and went back to Taipei city, to Ximending where my hotel was located. Funny was I guided the cab driver on how to go back to our hotel with Google Maps because he's from Keelung.

Anyway, after dropping our bags of shopping bags at the hotel, we went to the famous Ximending shopping district to explore, hunt and eat again. Ximending, you can call it the Harajuku of Taipei, Bukit Bintang of Taipei, Times Square of Taipei, Causeway Bay of Taipei, Orchard Road of Taipei, East Nanjing Road of Taipei, or just anything equivalent you can think of, filled with vibrant billboards, shopping malls, retail outlet, youths and tourists.

If you are hunting for young and fashionable thing, or cute Taiwanese girls and boys, food, cats, dogs, then this is the place. HAHA. It's really vibrant and happening, especially on the weekends night. Just glad that my hotel is so nearby and convenient to walk there.

Didn't buy anything but ended up the exploration with meal of Taiwanese Lu Wei street food, a combination of braised pork organs and vegetables. Yums

A Walk At Chow Kit Area

A Walk At Chow Kit Area - Under the scorching Sunny heat, with dusty breeze from the road blew occasionally, the sound of motor engine can be heard passing by, I was walking at Chow Kit area. Took the LRT from Kelana Jaya to KL Sentral, interchanged to monorail to Chow Kit then I alighted. I should have taken the LRT and interchanged to PWTC instead. The monorail is slow and expensive!

I was in town in the morning yesterday, to check out a place that I found in Chow Kit which to be designed for my final design project. Site analysis is a part of every of my project and so, a visit to the place is a must to study, to see, and to photograph.

This indirectly gave me an opportunity to explore another side of Kuala Lumpur - Chow Kit, a place that known much as the red light district, black and dirty zone. Indeed, but Jalan Ipoh on the other hand is clean and green, surprisingly. Some places is clean, some places is dirty. That's the problem of KL, not every corner are well maintain which is kinda sad.

The place have potential to be revitalized into a new district because the architecture at there is very retro and have feeling. If it's not the assignment, I would not have come here already. You know right, you have to be careful when walking around KL city.

Furniture Design Class Visit To IKEA - A very random post about I visited the IKEA with my classmate last week for an assingment of looking IKEA furniture, research and document them. It'd been some times I go to IKEA, IKEA actually was my sanctuary where I like to see their new decorations, buy their furniture bit by bit and also to eat their meatballs. But now, IKEA, is just IKEA to me, not obsessed to it anymore. Somehow, I must visit the original headquarter in Stolkholm one day, next year, perhaps? =D

Klang Valley: Beautiful Mess 5.0 of myBurgerLab - A torrent of slaps fell on Friday night. I thought that with that kind of wet and roaring weather, people will tend to stay at home for meal or go somewhere near to grab a quick bite, but then the usual evening queue at myBurgerLab was on!

Indeed, the burger shop is doing very well. Queued for about 20 minutes and the burger of the night was Beautiful Mess 5.0 (RM18) - Charcoal bun stuffed with portobella fries, thick and juicy beef patties, sunny side up, and mozarella cheese.

One more thing, thumbs up for the good service of myBurgerLab's staff who always put a smile on the face. =D Another thing is that they should seriously a bigger space is needed, it's hard to get a place to sit.

Penang: Kampai 9.9 Taiwanese 'Zhu Char', E-Gate - Despite being tensed with the General Election 2013, while waiting for the result to be announced later, I think I shall write some food post to release some tension. =D Let's head to Penang, for food!

So this place that I visited last weekend was Kampai, located at E-Gate, the place used to be Tao Japanese Cuisine. It's quite a surprised to see the once very famous Tao is gone and replaced by Kampai. Later then, I just realised that Kampai is from the same person who runs Tao! That's why.

Kampai is actually a Chinese restaurant, just like 'zhu char' (dai chao) restaurant but in a up-scale environment and atmosphere and selling mainly Taiwanese dishes, starting from RM9,9/dish. It's quite interesting trying Taiwanese-style of 'zhu char' because all the while, Taiwanese food is just beef noodle, 3 cups noodle and deep fried chicken.

Sweet and sour pork which was rather hard to chew.

Ma Po Toufu which is quite standard, nothing fancy.

Well, actually the taste is quite good in my opinion, but my brother commented that it's quite standard, taste like what he had in Singapore. The fried bittergourd with salted egg was good, the pork slices with garlic was good, but the sweet and sour pork and ma po toufu was just not fancy enough. But after all, I kinda enjoyed my lunch at there.

Penang: Mugshot Cafe, Chulia Street - Haven't been home for quite some times and just realised that there's so many new cafes pop up around town! Mugshot Cafe is a new one (might not new to Penangite but me) at Chulia Street, right opposite the famous Wan Tan Mee or just next to the Rainforest Bakery.

I'm wondering how to describe this kind of cafe. It's retro-ish, a bit of artsy fartsy and a little bit similar to Burps & Giggles of Ipoh. Heritage artsy style? There's so many in town right now. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it's kinda hard to get a seat there. The seating is kinda cute with low table and chair like in the kindergarten.

There's not much in the menu, you can find coffee and tea, some cakes, homemade yogurt, and bagel muffin. That's it. Bagels were sold out and it's only cake and yogurt for me. The carrot cake was good, sweet enough for my sweet tooth and the apple crumble was nice too according to my mom, but then I think I am not an apple crumble person, I don't like the sourish apple in it. HAHA. Another thing I ordered was the Walnuts & Raisins Yogurt which I find it too sourish too, should have tried Jackfruit & Gula Melaka!

THE FINALE At Kelana Jaya Stadium - The eve of 13th General Election of Malaysia, the last day of campaigning by all the political parties, and it's the ready for change and a new Malaysia. The night was tensed and excited. More than 50 thousands Malaysians flocked into the Kelana Jaya Stadium, to give a one last shot of support.

It started with a few thousands of people, the stadium slowly filled up and it's just incredible to see the crowds packed in the stadium. Today, Malaysian will make the decision, I am excited and nervous, let's hope for the good news tonight. Ubah.

429 HIMPUNAN HARAPAN RAKYAT at Han Chiang High School - Penangite are ready to bring UBAH to Putrajaya as I can see from last Monday's gathering at Han Chiang High School. I was there, sweat and wet, together with 70,000 people, chanting UBAH, cheering, shouting, screaming. I felt unity among all. I felt, happy. Too bad, I couldn't stayed till the end because of the rain, but I've got to say, good job to everyone who stayed till the end of the event!

MOVIDA Birthday Bash - Free food, free (good) music and free flow were what to describe my Friday's night. 'There's no free lunch in the world?' Yeah, but there's free dinner, at MOVIDA, Sunway Giza. A bunch of happy friends of interior designers, a couple pints of free beer, a little good food, and a night of club hits, brought the weekend to life.

Not really a club person, but I like club hits, and of course, free or cheap drinks (Carlsberg at RM10/pint that night)! Happy weekend!

It was not a nice night because of rain, and the field has lots of water stagnant. Despite a small turn out, the crowd were supportive, cheerful and looking forward to a change. Well, me? Klang Valley: Three Little Pigs & The Big Bad Wolf - The pork crave still haven't ends in me yet since the last pork meal at S.Wine, it's not the craving for siu yok or cha siu, it's Western version of pork dish and I want more! Last weekend, I went to this pork shop - Three Little Pigs & The Big Bad Wolf at Bangsar Village Mall (what a long name?!). Very easy to spot as it's located just by the car park.

I was there for a late birthday lunch with Clarice, it's almost 3pm already, but the restaurant was really packed with people, mostly ladies! I wonder where are the guys? Almost tea time and the people just never stop walking in from the front door.

Since it's just two of us, we got a table pretty quickly. Without much hesitation, my order went to the two famous dishes The Wolf's Favourite (RM27+) and also the Mighty Pork Burger (RM24+). Serving was pretty fast, surprisingly for that much people in the restaurant.

The Wolf's Favourite is their signature pasta which basically is carbonara enhanced with smoky pork and mushrooms, further topped up with a beautiful poached egg. It's fragrance is good, the pork feels like bak gua to me and the combination of poached egg creates a unique carbonara experience, without the cream. It's a little bit salty on my taste buds, but undeniably, still OK-good.

If were to choose between the two dishes, my choice went to the Mighty Pork Burger which has a thick juicy pork patty which I still can imagine biting a mouth of it right now. Egg was just a compliment to the burger which I find it like McBreakfast egg, but still, I like the tender pork patty. Will come back again for some other pork dish!

Cake & Pizza For The Birthday Babe - A typical Friday filled with laughter, smile, sweetness, and pizza. I bought a cake and Dominoes home for Clarice to surprise her up while she's doing her revision at home. Interestingly, she didn't expect it as usual because it's still bright day time. I was too hungry so went to buy pizza and the Dominoes pizzas were quite good as it's my first time eating, all the while was Pizza Hut. The cake from RT Pastry was not that bad, pretty reasonable, but a little bit too sour for the cheese. =D Anyway, happy birthday babe!

iPad is quite useful after all! =D

Klang Valley: Banana Leaf Rice @ Sri Nirvana Maju, Bangsar - Wanted to try this for quite some times, and finally I've got a chance. I've heard quite some good reviews and seeing it always packed during lunch and dinner, the Sri Nirvana Maju Indian cuisine must be good I assumed.

Located right opposite of Bangsar Village Mall, this little Indian restaurant serves rice on banana leaf as well as other Indian dish with a blend of local taste. I've read that people complained about the price went up in just a year and two, however looking at the crowds, the price increased did not shoo people away.

Banana leaf rice was the dinner for me and my girlfriend. Each set costs RM7 and comes with rice, papadum and 3 vegetables - deep fried bittergourd, cucumbers and cabbage, as well as deep fried chillies. You can opt for 3 types of gravy to add a bit of spiciness and aroma to the rice - dalcha, chicken curry, fish curry. That's the vegetarian meal of banana leaf rice. I find it too vegetarian and added 2 side dishes - sambal boiled egg and chicken masala.

Everything was fine, spiciness was at a good level and the portion was just too big! Ended with a satisfaction and Clarice couldn't finish her rice. It was indeed pricey at RM27 for 2 person, but nevertheless, it's a good meal.
