Encountered Object Reference error when setting up a new web application to host MySite. Walkthrough the ULS logs showed a problem with a custom xml config file in the 14/config location. Renamed file and re-created web-app without any problems.

Registered a custom workflow successfully but it didn’t show up in the list of available workflow steps. Restarted async service, restarted iis, even created a new key and went through the whole process again. Nothing worked.

Appears I was using the URL without the organisation name i.e.

http://localhost/MCSCRM2011

rather than

http://localhost/[organisation name]

MS CRM 2011 – Custom Workflow Registration – could not load crm.sdk.dll

Built a custom workflow (or rather migrated from old version of CRM) and attempted to register with the plug-in registration tool. Got an error saying dependency crm.sdk.dll could not be found. Checked all assembly bindings, tried copying to the /server/bin folder. Nothing worked.

Eventually I put a copy of crm.sdk into the GAC and the registration worked fine.

Deploying a bunch of content types and list definitions through VS2010 I ended up with some of the content types not showing up as associated with a particular list.

Putting the FieldRefs tags between the ContentType tags sorted it...

Working with ImportWebPart function I hit a problem where the call would fail with Could Not Import WebPart error. The webpart would import to the page manually so nothing wrong with SafeControls or the actual web-part code.

Nothing in the event log, nothing in the SharePoint log, no debugView trace - nothing.

Ended up working through the code of the web-part, commenting out everything and then re-introducing a section at a time.

Turned out the problem was a ScriptLink reference in the controls declarations. The control wasn't even in use. Removing the ScriptLink control from the web-part allowed Import to work.

Had a problem with a previously working installation calling the lists.asmx service. Switched the authentication from Kerberos to NTLM in the web application settings which resolved the problem.

To ensure the images synchronise:

Make sure the image is in AD (use the Dovestones tool to check)
Make sure the properties is mapped in the User Profile Service to the thumbNail photo for Import for the Picture property
Perform a full Synchronisation against AD
Check the FIM front-end for errors during sync - see Harbars
