Voters in Pennsylvania and anywhere else PLEASE CHECK YOUR BALLOT BEFORE CONFIRMING. Reports are surfacing of PA voting machines changing Obama votes to votes for Romney. Kind of funny since republicans were the ones who attempted to disenfranchise thousands of voters with a voter ID law. What isn't funny is that we just don't know how widespread this is, or if votes are in fact being recorded properly.

Long time no post, but this whole SOPA thing is so much complete and utter crap that I have to pipe up a little. In the name of stopping online piracy, our government is trying to do what they have been trying to do for years – censor the internet to the point where it is only useful for commercial purposes by well established big business. I don’t mean keep you from looking at naked people or anything like that, but free speech – especially free speech with a very large potential audience – is the enemy of dictatorships, corporatocracies and other “evil” regimes. If you think the gov wouldn’t use this to shut down anything they deem a “threat” at some point down the road, I have a bridge to sell you. I had mentioned how free speech and dissent via Twitter is only approved of by the US government when it happens in other countries in a previous post. This video by YouTuber “YaBasta5000″ has illustrated that idea clearly for those of us who don’t “get it” until we see a video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jhsmCMuwdg I am glad to say that the local media is finally starting to take a closer look at two days of police aggression, in part thanks to recent attention from the Citizens Police Review Board. Maybe the local news people need to learn how to use Twitter and it won’t take them two weeks to pick up on something important. Other news that may have slipped by since there were no toddlers attacked by pitbulls or missing white girls: Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato announced his candidacy for governor on Tuesday. People showed up to protest the police tactics during the G20. They were, of course, promptly arrested. Here is the Post-Gazette article. I don’t know if Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is still refusing to consider looking into police conduct or not. I really want to be able to get away from writing about the G20, but every time I look there is another ridiculous story to share. This time, the “Authorities” have arrested a guy for tweeting things he heard on the police scanner. When demonstrators in Iran used Twitter and other social networks to communicate, it was hailed as a triumph of democracy and freedom. Any crack down on it by the government of Iran was viewed as authoritarian oppression. Here in the US? Well, that’s a different story. Think about this – if everything that happened in Pittsburgh during and after the G20 had happened in Iran, China, or anywhere else, we’d be having a huge benefit concert by now, and our government would be talking about sanctions or invasion.
