I often listen to the audio narrations of Caitanya Bhagavata, Harinama Cintamani or Bhagavad Gita. These verses are a real bliss and always strengthen my faith in one or another way. There’s always a verse which seems to strike a chord when you most need it. That is the true power of these scriptures. That is the Lord’s Mercy helping one back Home.

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!

I was wondering already for some time why my bhajan was not giving me the desired bliss and happiness. i couldn?t find out why until today when after long time i was again listening to the wonderful audio narration of Chaitanya Bhagavata. Just after few minutes my heart suddenly overflowed with affection for Lord Gauranga and Lord Nityananda and i felt like crying upon hearing the nectarean, most merciful topics of Chaitanya Bhagavata. i am completely convinced, that it was solely due to the inherent merciful nature of this great and most important divine literature. It can not but forcibly drag one into the sublime and merciful Pastimes of Lords Gaura-Nityananda. The mercy showed by Chaitanya Bhagavata cannot be properly put in words, only one who tried out and his heart grasped the merciful nature of this scripture can understand?

Now i want to give full credit to the words of Srinath prabhu and Shri Swami Gaurangapada Maharaja, that while reading Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata one?s all doubts in regards to Supreme Identity and Supremely Worshipable Position of Their Lordships Shri Shri Nityananda Gauranga and Their Holy Names completely vanishes. By reading Chaitanya Bhagavata all one?s fears in worshiping Lords Nitaai-Gauranga and chanting Their Holy Names flee and one feels himself spontaneously and effortlessly attached to the worship of Lord Gauranga?s and Nityananda?s Lotus Feet and chanting Their Holy Names.

I humbly allow myself to claim that this is the primary scripture on which all the enthusiastic worshipers of Lords Nityananda Gauranga and the chanters of Their Holy Names, in other words the Gauravadis, always swear upon. Forever.

Tomorrow Thursday 12th Nov(UK) is Utpanna Ekadasi

The glories of Utpanna Ekadashi is described in Bhavisyottara Purana in the conversation between Shri Krishna and Arjuna. Shri Suta Goswami said to the assembled brahmins and sages – ?if a person with faith and devotion duely follows or hears about the glories, rules and regulations of observing Ekadashi as described by lord Krishna, then he will attain happiness in this life and will return to the abode of lord Vishnu in the next life.?

Once Arjuna asked Shri Krishna ? O Janardhana Please explain to me, what is the benefit of total fast, eating only at night or eating once at midday on Ekadashi ?

In reply to this lord Shri Krishna said, O Arjuna ! In the begining of autum on the Ekadashi that acurres during the waning moon in the month of November-December a person should begin observing the vow of Ekadashi. In the early morning on the day of Ekadashi he should make a vow to observe fasting. At mid-day he should purify himself by taking a bath. At the time of taking bath he should pray as follows. ? O Asvakrante ! O Rathakrante! O Vishnukrante! O Vasundhare! O Mrittike! O Mother earth! Please distroy all my sinful reactions accumulated from previous life times so that I can attain the supreme destination?. After completing his bath he should worship Lord Govinda.

Once Indra the king of heaven surrounded by the demigods approached the supreme lord and prayed to Him as follows. ?O lord of the universe, O supreme personality of godhead we offer our respectful obeisances to you. You are the supreme shelter, mother and father of everyone. You create,maintain and destroy everyone. You are the benefector of earth,the sky and the entire material creation. You yourself are lord brahma,lord vishnu and lord shiva. You are the lord and enjoyer of all kinds of sacrifices, austerities,hymns and their performers. There is no object within these three animate and inanimate worlds which is not owned and controled by you. O lord! O supreme personality of godhead! O master of the demigods! O protector of the surroundered souls! O supreme mystic ! the demigods have been deprived of their heavenly kingdom and have been driven out by the demons. They have fearfully surroundered at your lotus feet, please protect them. O lord of the universe! We have been fallen from the heavenly planets in to this earthly planet and have merged into the ocean of miseries. Kindly be pleased with us?.

On hearing such a pathetic prayer of Indra Lord Vishnu asked him ?who is this invincible demon who has defeated even the demigods? What is his name? What is the source of his prowess? O Indra ! please explain to me everything in detail without any fear ?.

Indra replied O lord of the demigods! O deliverer of the devotees! O supreme lord! A fierced demon named Nadijangha who first caused distress to the demigods appeared in the family of a brahmin. He had a equally powerful infamous demon son called Mura. The great city of Chandravati is the capital of this great demon Mura. This demon Mura has driven out all the demigods from heavenly planets and he himself is living there. He has taken over all the post of Indra,Agni,Yama,Vayu,Isa,Chandrama,Nairita and Varuna all by himself. The demigods combined could not conquer him. O Lord Vishnu please kill this demon and protect the demigods?.

On hearing the words of Indra the lord became very angry to those who harressed the demigods and said ? O king of the demigods I will personally kill this powerful demon who is your enemy. Now all of you should return to the city of Chandravati?. Thereafter all the demigods proceeded towards the city of Chandravati led by lord Vishnu. On one side the demigods were prepared for the battle with thousands of various weapons in their possession, and on the other side the Demon Mura was roaring surrounded by innumerable demon army.

The demigods were already scattered due to the severe beatings by the demigods; but now when they saw the rejuvenated fearless demigods led by the supreme lord were standing before them the demons became extremely angry. Although the lord easily defeated all the demons he felt difficulty in defeating the demon Mura. When inspite of useing various weapons the lord could not kill the demon Mura, He engaged him in wrestling with the demon for ten thousand years. Finally the lord defeated the demon and left for Badrikashrama. In Badrikashrama the lord entered into a beautiful cave called Hemavati and took rest.

The Supreme lord continued O Arjuna! Thereafter that demon chased me and entered that cave . On seeing me resting there he decided to kill me. At that time an effulgent daughter appeared from my body and holding various divine weapons began to fight with the demon. After constantly fighting with the demon for a long time the effulgent goddess finally severed his head. Then all the other demons ran away to patalaloka out of fear. When the lord got up from His rest He saw that the dead body of demon Mura is lying in front of him and an effulgent goddess humbly standing before Him with folded hands. On seeing her the lord surprisingly asked her who are you?

The goddess replied ?O my lord I am born from your body and I have killed this demon. On seeing you lying down this demon attempted to kill you, that is why I have killed him.?

The Supreme Lord said ?O Goddess I am very pleased with you for this act.

You can ask for any benediction you desire.? When the goddess prayed for benediction the lord said ? You are my spiritual energy and since you have appeared on the day of Ekadashi your name will be Ekadashi. Any one who will followthe vow of Ekadashi be releaved from all sinful reactions and attain inexhaustible heavenly happiness?.

From that day onwards the day of Ekadashi has been nurished and worshiped in this world. O Arjuna a person who observes the vow of Ekadashi I award him the supreme destination. O son of Kunti , an Ekadashi mixed with dvadasi is the highest. One should give up sex life , eating – grains ,honey,meat, eating on a baelmetal plate, appling oil on the day of Ekadashi. If a person observes this Ekadashi and hears its glories he can attain more results.

“Alas, alas! O Bhaktivinode Thakur, O Supreme Guru, for twenty-two years this world has been plunged into misfortune, long grief-stricken in your intolerable separation. You are the Divine Potency of Sri Gaura, and you graciously made your advent in this earthly plane, being attracted by the living beings’ virtuous deeds performed throughout many lifetimes.”

“Since I am lowly and very wretched, it was not my luck to reach the ocean that bestows the fortune of surrender—-the Ocean of the Ecstasy of bathing in a particle of the dust of your Holy Lotus Feet. With your appearance, the ecstasy of the devotees knows no bounds.”

The Primeval Origin of even the Original Sri Narayana who is the Lord of the spiritual sky above Brahman: He is the Original Supreme Lord, the personification of all nectarean mellows—Sri Krishna—and He, is the One that you give.”

With Great Ecstasy, She expands the joy of Loving Sweetness in the Service of Sri Krishnachandra, Who is otherwise Served in four relationships up to parenthood. Begin with 10 rounds of the Nityaananda Mantra and then 10 rounds of the Gauraanga Mantra and then try to chant at least 4 rounds of the Hare Krishna Mahaamantra daily. The other progressive stages in chanting are given here. Nityananda!! Gauranga!! Hare Krishna!! Jaya Shri Guru Parampara!

Comment on hearing and seeing without understanding by Swami

(1) As one gets burnt by touching fire even though one may not know the power of fire, one becomes purified by hearing the sound of the Sanskrit Mantras and verses emananting from the mouth of a pure devotee, even though one may understand the meaning or not.

(2) Lord Ananta is a partial expansion of Lord Nityaananda, so chanting Lord Nityaananda’s Name includes the fruit of the chanting Lord Ananta’s Name and much more.

(3) Directly seeing the Lord requires more qualification and if one sees Him materially then one will not understand Him. But His Names are more merciful than His form, so even chanting the Names materially or mechanically in the beginning will lead that person to the direct experience of God.

They look beautiful. My humble suggestion would be that it would be better if there was some covering to cover them from the sun, birds, rains, winds, cold, heat etc. since I remember that Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Prabhupada would not so much recommend outdoor statues of the Lord since Their forms are non-different from Them and They cannot be protected properly without a temple or some kind of enclosure. Of course we also know that Lords Nityaananda Gauraanga are more merciful than any of Their other forms and They are always willing to give Their darshana to us is any way possible. Nityananda!! Gauranga!! Hare Krishna!! Jaya Shri Guru Parampara!

Dear Mihir, We do worship the Deities of Shri Shri Gaura Gadadhara as did our Acharya Shrila Sacchidananda Bhaktivinoda Thakura but at an advanced stage of devotion since understanding the devotion to Shri Shri Gaura Gadadhara purely requires even a more advanced level of purification than even the worship of Shri Shri Radha Krishna even though both are the same personalities, as I have explained before. Till then we worship Shri Gadadhara in the form of Shri Pancha Tattva. Nityananda!! Gauranga!! Hare Krishna!! Jaya Shri Guru Parampara!

Comment on Are our sufferings due to karma or due to offenses? by Swami

Practicing devotees are seen to suffer due to either or many or all of these four anarthas described in Madhurya Kadambini by Shrila Vishvanatha Chakravarti Thakura as follows:

(1) Duskrtottha (anarthas coming from sinful activities)
(2) Sukrtottha (anarthas coming from pious deeds)
(3) Aparadhottha (anarthas coming from offences)
(4) Bhaktyuttha (anarthas coming from devotional service)

Earlier we discussed the bad effects of material attachments, such as envy and anger. These causes of distress are born of sinful activities (dushkriti). The craving for temporary sensual pleasure is also a detrimental desire in the heart, an anartha stemming from sukriti (pious activities). [Suffering comes from impious deeds, whereas pious deeds facilitate enjoyment of the senses.] Some scholars say that sukritottha anarthas are part of the five causes of distress: envy, pride, anger, ignorance, and attachment.(end)

Aparadhottha (offenses) is the most difficult to come since it cannot be removed like other sins, but only by Nityaananda Gauraanga Naama and/or by constant chanting of Hari Naama. Bhaktyuttha are the anarthas created by the subtle desires for name, fame and reputation.

As I have described before, to the extent the practicing devotee is surrendered to the Name, to that extent these anarthas don’t affect him. For example, he or she gets 40% freedom from these sufferings caused by these four anarthas, if that devotee is 40% surrender to the Lord.

In the case of the pure devotees, as I have explained previously, the apparent “sufferings” seen in their lives is the arrangement by Lord Gaura Krishna to glorify them further and increase their love for Him more and more. Nityananda!! Gauranga!! Hare Krishna!! Jaya Shri Guru Parampara!

Dream of Krishna and Balarama

Last week, by the mercy of chanting Nityananda, Gauranga, and Hare Krishna mantra I had a wonderful dream I want to share.

I saw a giant Japa bead in my dream.I was hearing the sound of Nityananda Gauranga and Hare Krishna mantra. I one moment Krishna manifested Himself in the Tulasi bead. He was smiling and holding His mace,and I saw just the moment how He was manifesting Balarama in the next bead. I thought that in every next bead Krishna would manifest one of His energies if I chant sincerely.

In my dream Krishna showed me how He doesn’t differ from His name. I realized also the point and essence of chanting. How wonderful.I am so grateful for this realization and lucky that I heard of His divine Name and that I chant.Chanting is my guidance and highlight in the labyrinth of Maya which my fallen soul attends.

Dear Gurudev, Shyam Sundar Prabhu, Mihir Prabhu and devotees, Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna!

Please, accept my humble obeisances, all glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga.

While chanting and performing devotional service there are millions of distractions lurking for our attention. The main remedy is: ?whenever your attention drifts away from your devotional efforts, bring it back?. That means that when I am chanting and my attention drifts away to let?s say making my shopping list, the soon as I notice that I have drifted away, I bring my attention back to the chanting. The instruction is simple however the implementation is a lifetime of practice. The more I follow this instruction the sharper my mind becomes to correct itself when wandering away. It?s training the inner muscle of focus. Also in the beginning I might make it to item 10 of my shopping list before I even notice that my attention has drifted away. The more I follow the instruction the earlier I will notice my distraction enabling to correct myself in an earlier stage. This is the process of how we become more fixed in our devotional service.

Now the worst that can happen is that I go on automatic pilot. I am chanting without intense awareness on the hole Names. My mind is constantly somewhere else and I don?t even notice it. Now I need stronger obstacles to ?wake me up?. When Lord Gauranga Krishna in His unlimited mercy is so kind to give me these obstacles in order to wake me up, that?s perfect. Yes it His will that He allows us to serve Him. But it is up to us to approach Him. That is a constant effort which we can?t put on automatic pilot. We need to have a keen mind that is constantly alert to serve the Lord. As soon as it becomes an ordinary routine we are wandering away, losing our ?edge? and the intensity diminishes. Devotional service, chanting, being focused on the Lord, is a constant effort in which we correct our attention constantly when it wanders of. When we weaken in this correctional process the Lord will create a wake-up call and give us difficulties so our attention gets sharpened again.

The reminder of being crushed under the mountain of karma and offences teaches that we are always depending on the Lord and His mercy. We can?t liberate ourselves. Only the Lord can. In order to receive Lord Gauranga Krishna?s personal attention we have to give Him our undivided attention. And as soon as we start experiencing Him in our lives all our ulterior motives disappear including liberation. With the Lord in our hearts our only wish is that He remains in our hearts, no matter if we are in hell, on earth, in heaven, or on His planet.

Dandvat Pranam to Swami ji,to all the devotees and especially to Shriman Hadai Nityananda Dasa Prabhu and Mihir Prabhu for your excellent responses.
Yes, ultimately it is due to our 50-50 approach (also seeking something in return for bhakti practice) that we suffer the most.
I was reading the Upadeshamrita of Shrila BhaktiSiddhanta Saraswati Thakura and came across an answer almost by chance (or perhaps by divine mercy).
A devotee doesn’t consider material miseries to be sufferings. For a devotee the only suffering is due to his inability to serve Krishna.
Any desire for alleviation of the threefold miseries of the material world amounts to “moksha vanchha.” or desire for liberation. Any desire for seeking material benefits (dharma, artha, kaam) amounts to bhukti vancha.
So as long as we have any material desires remaining, we suffer from either bhukti vaanchha or mukti vaanchha.
It is clearly stated that one cannot have peace as long as one has either of the two : both “bhogi” and “tyagi” must be restless.
“Krishna bhakta nishkam, ataiva shanta| bhukti, mukti siddhi kaami sakalai ashaanta.” (CC, Madhya Leela).

My question was more from the point of view of obstacles. If sufferings lead to obstacles in devotional service, should we still consider it as Krishna’s mercy ?
On this point I have this idea : Obstacles in carrying out devotional service means some correction is being made on us by Krishna. It means there is some seva-aparadh or the like, which is being corrected. Why else would Krishna create a situation where I cannot chant or do my regular japa ? It is also possible that Krishna wants to test our determination by putting us through the various tests.
However, the more esoteric view is that Krishna can only be served by His will, not by our will. So Krishna wants us to realize that and break our ego , like “I am such a nice devotee..etc”.
As Shrila Bhaktivinod Thakur prays
“hena dusta karma nayi, jahan ami kori nayi, sahastra sahastra baar Hari| Sei saba karma phala, peye avasara bala, amaya pisichhe yantropori.”
There is no evil act that I have not committed , millions and millions of times. The fruits of those acts (karma as well as offenses) , finding the right opportunity, are now crushing me heavily.
So a devotee also sees all his sufferings as the result of his past karma, but he is not asking for alleviation of those karma.
His only prayer is like “Whatever sufferings I deserve, let me have those. My only prayer O Lord (Gauranga – Krishna) is that never leave me, always remain in my heart.”

Why Nitaai Gaura instead of Gadadhara Gaura

I had a question and would be grateful to you if you could clear my doubts.

In Vraja Lila we worship Radha Krishna instead of Lord Balaram. In Vaikuntha we worship Lakshmi Narayan instead of Ananta Shesha Naga. Similarly we worship Sita Rama instead of Lakshman. Then in Navadvipa Lila why do we worship Nitaai Gaura instead of Gadadhara Gaura ? If Gadadhara is Radharani then why is no importance given to Gadadhara at all ?

Please forgive me for any offenses but I have asked this question just for knowledge.

Swami Gaurangapada has explained this which I have copied and pasted below

In the case on non-fully-perfect devotees, they have to suffer some of their karma since they are not 100% surrendered to Lord Gaura Krishna. If one is 50% surrendered to the Lord, the Lord removes 50% of the karma and one has to still face some effects of the remaining 50% karma.
Gurus have to accept the ten offenses of the disciples against the Hare Krishna Mahaamantra, which have no atonement in this world except constant chanting of Hari Naama or the regular chanting of Nityaananda Gauraanga Naama. So, unless the Gurus are chanting Hari Naama constantly or they have accepted full shelter of Nityaananda Gauraanga Naama and given Nityaananda Gauraanga Naama to their disciples in order to destroy the ten offenses of their disciples against Hari Naama, they may have to suffer accordingly.
But in the case of fully perfect pure devotees also, we may see that they sometimes externally ?suffer? like the example you have quoted about King Dasharatha, the pure devotee father of Lord Raama. This is not actually material suffering. Pure devotees are seen to ?suffer? due to the following three reasons.
(1) First is because the Lord wants their glories to be known widely because when there is suffering in the lives of pure devotees, they become more attached to the Lord and their glory shines even more. Also, by their example during suffering, the conditioned souls can learn and understand from the example of the pure devotees, how to react to suffering in their lives by surrendering to the Lord even more during those times.
(2) Secondly, the Lord wants to stop unqualified, materialistic and egotistic people from approaching and disturbing the pure devotee. Thus He deliberately puts that pure devotee in some distress so that materialistic people think that this pure devotee is an ordinary person and they don?t go and disturb his or her bhajana. And thus the pure devotee can relish the Holy Names peacefully in the association of other sincere devotees and disciples.
(3) The third reason is an internal reason. Feeling separation (which may look like suffering externally but actually is extremely blissful within) from the Lord increases and heightens the intensity of the pure devotee?s love for the Lord and that makes the pure devotee even more quailified to directly participate in the Lord?s pastimes. It also shows to the world the ultimate nature of pure love which is that a pure devotee cannot even live for a moment without the Lord.
For all these three reasons, pure devotees are sometimes seen to externally ?suffer?. But iinternally they are experiencing the highest bliss of pure love for Lord Gaura Krishna during these times.

My question is : Devotees are often seen to suffer from material miseries. Sometimes they also suffer from accidents, disease etc.

Often we find that materialist persons are not suffering, in good stead in the society whereas a devotee is suffering on various fronts.

Does a devotee suffer due to his past karma or due to offenses ? How to find out if �a particular suffering was caused due to past karma or due to offenses or due to some mercy of Krishna ?

(I know that a pure devotee treats everything as mercy of Krishna, but sometimes it is not so easy to digest.)

It seems that when a devotee ’suffers’ it is also like a test of faith and love? They love Him regardless of the reactions, whether karmic or from offenses that occur. They know well they are qualitively part and parcel of the Lord, and act only for His pleasure so internally they are not as affected by the material ups and downs. The experience can lead to greater rejection of temporary worldly pleasure and pain and greater attachment to Krishna. Ultimately they will never have to experience bodily distress again. As you all say, an advanced devotee sees everything as Krishnas mercy.

It says in the Srimad Bhagavatam 10.14.8

“My dear Lord, one who earnestly waits for You to bestow Your
causeless mercy upon him, all the while patiently suffering the
reactions of his past misdeeds and offering You respectful obeisances
with his heart, words and body, is surely eligible for liberation, for

The word su-sam?ks?am?n?a indicates that a devotee earnestly awaits the mercy of the Supreme Lord even while suffering the painful effects of previous sinful activities. Lord Kr?s?n?a explains in the Bhagavad-g?t? that a devotee who fully surrenders unto Him is no longer liable to suffer the reactions of his previous karma. However, because in his mind a devotee may still maintain the remnants of his previous sinful mentality, the Lord removes the last vestiges of the enjoying spirit by giving His devotee punishments that may sometimes resemble sinful reactions. The purpose of the entire creation of God is to rectify the living entity’s tendency to enjoy without the Lord, and therefore the particular punishment given for a sinful activity is specifically designed to curtail the mentality that produced the activity. Although a devotee has surrendered to the Lord’s devotional service, until he is completely perfect in Kr?s?n?a consciousness he may maintain a slight inclination to enjoy the false happiness of this world. The Lord therefore creates a particular situation to eradicate this remaining enjoying spirit. This unhappiness suffered by a sincere devotee is not technically a karmic reaction; it is rather the Lord’s special mercy for inducing His devotee to completely let go of the material world and return home, back to Godhead.

I would say that you can have some faith in yourself. However it has to be born in mind that we are very imperfect humans stranded in the ocean of birth and death, totally influenced and conditioned by the modes of material nature, we are constantly learning, forgetting and making mistakes Krishna on the other hand is perfect, completely transcendental to the modes, He doesnt need to learn anything as he is All-knowing, remembers everything and He is infalliable, never making mistakes. It seems better to have most faith in Krishna and His bone-fide empowered representatives.

“Should we have faith in ourselves or only in God?”
I will humbly try to post my views in this regard. Please forgive any offenses in advance!

One cannot but have faith in oneself. It is impossible to not have faith in ourselves. Without that, we cannot have any existence. Faith in God comes as a result of correct understanding or faith in oneself.

Faith in God and faith in myself are not different, but due to my diseased condition those appear to be different.To actually have faith in myself, I must know my true identity, which is as a servant of Krishna . Then I can have true faith in myself and also in God. One cannot have true faith in a false thing.

In order to begin on a spiritual journey, we must accept a guide. The Guide will provide us the seed of understanding of “our form” as well as the “form of God” .

If we are lucky to find a true Guide (a true Guide is one who guides us to our real identity, which is as a servant of Krishna), we must accept his instructions whole heartedly and put them into practice.As a result, the seed of devotion will begin to germinate and grow up gradually as a creeper.
Who am I ? What am I doing here ? What do I want ? What is this world ? Is there something better than this worldly existence ? Is there something better than this ?
We must ask those questions to ourselves. That is not possible to do unless we have faith in ourselves, even though we are yet to know our proper identity!

By progressively eliminating the lower concepts and accepting the higher concepts, we make progress.

Gradually we begin to realize that we are neither this body, nor this mind. We find out that there is a higher identity of myself, which is worthy of something better than the gross or subtle substances that are available in this world.(”athato brahma jijnasa”).
What is that identity, we cannot know fully right away. To the extent that our internal identity gets revealed progressively, to that extent we begin to understand that there is a Source, where I come from.
Just as when the sun starts rising, all the objects that were hidden in the darkness of the night become visible gradually.Similarly, as we make progress towards God, our own identity becomes visible more and more, as does the identity of the Supreme One.
We must cross the stages where we identify ourselves with the body, the mind, the intelligence, the ego, the super ego etc. Gradually as the darkness (”anarthas”) gets dissipated, we continue to proceed through the upper levels of existence in the material universe.
This is often referred to as the growth and progress of the “creeper of devotion.”
“upajiya badhe lata, brahmanda bhedi jaya, viraja brahmaloka bhedi para-vyom pay.”

Finally, as a result of completely surrendering ourselves to the Supreme One (freedom from all material desires) , we cross over the limits of material existence into Brahmaloka, the zone of undifferentiated consciousness. From there one progresses further up, propelled by the Internal potency of God, to Para-vyom (Spiritual Sky) as per one’s constitutional nature or tendency.
“tabe jay tadopori Goloka Vrindavan, Krishna charan kalpa-vrikshe kare arohan.
prem phala paki pade, mali asvaday, lata avalambi mali kalpa vriksha pay”
From Para-vyom, the spiritual sky (vaikunth), the creeper of devotion makes further progress into Goloka.
By taking shelter of the devotional creeper, the seeker (devotee) attains Krishna.
There the ultimate identity of the self is revealed, and the Supreme One is also revealed in His Complete (sat-cid-anand) Form.

Maybe I have distracted a bit from the main subject, please forgive me any offenses.

The night before Diwali, 16 October I had the mercy to see Rama in my dream. He appeared just for a moment in all His divine bliss, smiling. The day after,the wonderful Shree Tulasi appeared in our home. She came all along from Croatia to us by bus.She is doing well.
Two nights ago She came to my dream . In the flowerpot I saw her,sitting. I was protecting her branches and leaves from mold rain and , suddenly, She expanded Herself and 5 beautiful Manjaris appeared. They were all purple. The Manjaris expanded to five beautiful Shree Tulasis. Two grown up and two girls. They were all dressed in multicoloured dresses and my dream was coloured with the most beautifull colours one’s eyes can possibly see.
The next day I saw some new leaves on Shree Tulasi devi.
With the mercy of chanting the Holy Names of Nityananda, Gauranga and the Hare Krishna Mahamantra I was given the opportunity to serve Shree Tulasi devi.

But we must also add a line – “I believe in myself because the Lord has given me the capability.” We are part and parcel of the Lord, so our faith in ourselves must never be separated from the mercy of the Lord, otherwise it becomes false ego. my question this time is what happens to someone who hears God’s names or any song or description of his glorification but he does not understand the meaning, for example if i only know the english language, and i do not know sanskrit, if i hear the names of the Lord, or likewise his glorification by devotees in a language i do not understand will i still get the same benefit as if i were understanding the meaning?

another question is what happens if someone chants the name Nityananta instead of Nityananda, does he get the same benefit, since it is written that ananta is also Nitai’s name.

and the same in seeing, what if someone sees, materially or spiritually the form of the Lord, will he understand Him only if he sees Him?

Dear Devotees,

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna! Here the word lust isn’t exactly the same thing it means in English. In this context specifically refers to the problem of lust based on illicit sex. While the dictionary does have other meanings for lust, in practice the word is used in this sense and I do not refer to any other interpretation at all. The topic title itself mentions the point. The article is meant to address specifically the problem of lust that leads a person further and further away from the Lord and should not be taken in any other context.

Yes, all is well and good if we really desire the association of the Lord. But we must take care to eradicate this mundane “kama” in the process or else our devotion will be wrecked.

Regarding how to destroy lust with spiritual means, Part 3 addresses that elaborately. Thank you for your participation.

You said you would welcome feedback about the new high quality audio and video, and so my feedback is that I think it is great.

It was streaming well, and as it went full screen the graphics quality is amazing for a full screen picture.

I have an nvidia geforce go 7600 graphics card installed on my computer, so I can see the High definition with that and it really is amazing quality. I have not actually seen anything HD before, so I am quite impressed by how crystal clear the picture is.

I listened with headphones and the audio sounded amazing as well, I could even hear the birds in the background quite clearly. I am not sure if any special audio codec is required to hear the full quality of the audio, but I have various audio codecs installed and it sounded very good.

Surely this would depend on who it is and what the circumstances are? Personally if I was doing some japa while my son for instance was playing and he needed me then of course I would have to divert my attention. A friend often does her japa while looking after her shop, if a customer comes in and requires assistance then she cannot realistically just ignore them. However if it was an adult who understood what I was doing, then I may acknowledge them, not totally ignoring them, but continue to finish the round before talking with them. It may be offensive to continue chanting while distracted so it is probably best to just stop and return to it when you can give full attention.

Ideally the idea has to be to try and find some quiet time and place to chant where you are less likely to encounter this dilemma.

Some more comments about lust, why and how it can be avoided.

In the Bhagavda Gita, Krishna describes lust as ?vairinam? greatest enemy, ?nitya-vairina? eternal enemy, a ?papmanam? great symbol of sin and ?destroyer of knowledge and self-realization?

Originally the living entity is aware of his constitutional position, part and parcel of Krishna, loving Krishna automatically happy, satisfied and blissful. However when the Jiva comes in contact with the material world, in particular the mode of passion, this love of God becomes perverted into lust. This later degrades further into wrath as a manifestation of the Mode of Ignorance. Lust covers the jivas knowledge of their Self causing them to become bewildered, identify the physical body with the Self and act in many sinful ways, against the Lords laws. The living entity becomes shackled to the material world.

Krishna urges Arjuna to:
?In the very beginning curb this great symbol of sin by regulating the senses and slay this destroyer of knowledge and self realization?
Bhagavad Gita Chapter 3.42

Im not entirely certain that lust can ever be totally conquered while in the material body, afterall even highly elevated devotees have fallen down due to lust however with vigilance it can be curbed and become less of an issue.

Some ways to try and curb lust involve having a strong resolve to follow the regulative principles, following practises which gradually elevate one out of so much influence by the Mode of Passion, regulating and purifying the senses by engaging them in Krishna conscious activities, eating only Prasadam (sattvic foods first offered to the Lord), avoiding “passionate foods” such as onions and garlic, looking at pictures of Krishna, smelling insence or flowers offered to the Lord and of course chanting and hearing the Holy Names. This should in time lead us to feel more aware of our eternal self, blissful and satisfied, enabling us to be less eager to go chase after temporary boldily ‘pleasures’

I have a few thoughts on this subject that I can share if you like…these are just my personal views and understanding of the subject…

The word lust can have 2 meanings, it can mean to have a strong sexual desire, it can also mean to have a craving, appetite, or great desire for something.

If I am thirsty I lust for water, else I would die, but there is nothing wrong with wanting a glass of water. In fact in BG Krishna says he is the taste of water.

Alot of people automatically associate lust with sex, but lust and sex are not synonymous.

Sex is an act, lust is an inclination to act for something. Someone may lust/thirst for knowledge of God or service to God, is that wrong?

I would say that a distinction needs to be made between sex and lust. Merging the two makes for a world where everything is seen to be born of a desire for sex (Freudian philosophy) whereas it is said in the Bhagavad Gita that Krishna is the source of everything, that children are not born of sex desire, but that their source is Krishna.

i have read all the posts and saw the video post you sent me a few times for clear understanding, my question is, if i have chanted Gauranga 10 days per day, what name and how much of it should i chant now? should i replace the 10 rounds of Gauranga to 10 rounds of Nityanana?when you say that we first chant the name of Nityananda and then later of Gauranga do you mean at the same time, or in another period?

i hope you understood all of my intentions clearly, there seems to be a lack of understading whenever i ask a question.

1) why is it said there that lusting is cheating? do you mean in spiritual life, or also in materialistic life? if you say it is cheating also to non-believers and athiests, i do not think it will raise their awareness that it is wrong, so please take this to consideration.
2) is satvic sex also illicit sex?

Although in common parlance we think of only illicit sex as lust, in reality all our desires for material fulfillments or material elevation fall under the category of “lust”.
It is rather easy to realize that illicit sex is lust. However, often lust gets expressed in other forms , such as the desire for collection of money or fame.
Even if somebody is able to control illicit sex, if they have not controlled the desire for money and fame, their lust has not yet been extinguished.Any desire that is opposed to serving Krishna and His devotees is regarded as lust.
In reality it is extremely difficult to get rid of lust : the desire for fame, money or pleasures. We find some examples in our scriptures to tell us about the dangers of underestimating the power of Maya and her tool , namely lust.

So we must keep praying most humbly to the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda to save us from lust.

Haribol, i have a question regading disurbances, like noises that come from people’s actions that cause inconvinience, since swami Gurudeva i saw he wrote that we must bear any kind of disturbance and we cannot control it, knowing it is controlled by the supreme, i would like to know if it is possible in sadhana to go to the person making the noise and ask him to stop it as it is causing disturbance, or even somehow stop the person from doing it, for example if the t.v is on to switch the t.v off or softer.

People will need to turn vegetarian if the world is to conquer climate change, according to a leading authority on global warming.

In an interview with The Times, Lord Stern of Brentford said: ?Meat is a wasteful use of water and creates a lot of greenhouse gases. It puts enormous pressure on the world?s resources. A vegetarian diet is better.?

Direct emissions of methane from cows and pigs is a significant source of greenhouse gases. Methane is 23 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a global warming gas.

Lord Stern, the author of the influential 2006 Stern Review on the cost of tackling global warming, said that a successful deal at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December would lead to soaring costs for meat and other foods that generate large quantities of greenhouse gases.

He predicted that people?s attitudes would evolve until meat eating became unacceptable. ?I think it?s important that people think about what they are doing and that includes what they are eating,? he said. ?I am 61 now and attitudes towards drinking and driving have changed radically since I was a student. People change their notion of what is responsible. They will increasingly ask about the carbon content of their food.?

UN figures suggest that meat production is responsible for about 18 per cent of global carbon emissions, including the destruction of forest land for cattle ranching and the production of animal feeds such as soy.

On average, a British person eats 50g of protein derived from meat each day ? the equivalent of a chicken breast or a lamb chop. This is a relatively low level for a wealthy country but between 25 per cent and 50 per cent higher than the amount recommended by the World Health Organisation.

Su Taylor, a spokeswoman for the Vegetarian Society, welcomed Lord Stern?s remarks. ?What we choose to eat is one of the biggest factors in our personal impact on the environment,? she said. ?Meat uses up a lot of resources and a vegetarian diet consumes a lot less land and water. One of the best things you can do about climate change is reduce the amount of meat in your diet.?

The UN has warned that meat consumption is on course to double by the middle of the century.

Utthana Ekadasi Reminder

Today 29th October(UK) is Utthana Ekadasi also known as Haribodhini, Prabodhini or Devotthani Ekadasi.

The glories of Utthana Ekadashi is described in Skanda Purana in the conversation between Lord Brahma and Narada Muni. Once Lord Brahma said to Narada Muni O best of the sages! Please hear from me the glories of Utthana Ekadashi which destroys all ones sinful reactions, increases ones piety and awards one liberation. O best among the brahmins! The supremecy of the ganges was intact as long as Utthana Ekadashi which occures during the waxing moon in the month of October/November and which burns all ones sins into ashes did not manifest in this world. The influence of the oceans and lakes piety was matchless as long as Utthana Ekadashi did not manifest. The result one obtains by performing one thousand horse sacrifices and one hundred Rajsuya sacrifices can easily be obtained by observing this Ekadashi.

After hearing this words of Lord Brahma Narada Muni said, O dear father! Please tell me What is the merit one attains by eating ones a day, by taking supper in the evening and by complete fasting?

Lord Brahma replied, If one eats ones a day then all the sinful reactions of his one life time is destroyed, If one eats supper then the sinful reactins of his two life time are destroyed and by fasting completly one can destroy the sinful reactions of his seven life times.

O dear son! This Utthana Ekadashi awards everything that are unseen undesired and rare within the three worlds. This Ekadashi burns to ashes the grave sins as big as Mandara Mountain. The lion among sages if a person accumulates any piety on this day of Ekadashi then he obtains results equal to Sumeru Hill. In the body of those who do not prayers to the lord, who are fallen from their vows, who are ethiestic, who blashfame the vedas, who polute the religious scripture, who enjoyes others wife and who are foolish religious principle cannot remain. On should not indulge in sinful activities rather he should engage in pious activities. If one is inclained towards pious activities his religious principle are not distroyed. One who confidently follows the vow of Utthana Ekadashi, the sinful reactions of his one hundred life times are vanquished. If one reamains awake on the night of Utthana Ekadashi then his past, present and future generations returned to the abode of Vishnu.

O Narada! A person who does not observe the vow of Ekadashi in the month of Kartik and does not worship Lord Vishnu then all his accumulated piety is totally distroyed. O best of the brahmin! Therefore one should certainly worship lord Vishnu in the month of Kartik. If one eats food stuff cook by himself in the month of Kartik he obtains the result of Chandrayana vrata. If one engages in hearing and chanting the topics of Lord Vishnu in the month of Kartik attains the result of donating one hundred cows. By regularly studying the scriptures one achives the result of performing one thousand sacrifices. A person who hears the topics of the lord and then gives dakshina to the speaker according to his capacity goes to the eternal abode of the lord.

Narada Muni said O Lord! Kindly explain to me the procedure for observing Ekadashi. The grand father Brahma replied, O best of the twice born one should rise early in the morning during Brahma Muhurtha and after washing his mouth and taking bath he should worship lord Keshva. Then he should take a vow while chanting a mantra as follows. ? I will fast on the day of Ekadashi and I will only eat on the day of Dvadasi. O Pundarikaksa ! O Achyuta! I surrounder unto you Please protect me?. One should gladly observe the vow of Ekadashi with devotion and at night one should remain awake near

Lord Vishnu. While remaining awake at night one should hear and chant the transcendental qualities of the Lord. Any pious person who follows these instructions attains supreme destination. One should give up all kinds of greedyness on the day of Ekadashi.

Lord Brahma continued, If one worships Lord Janardhana with Kadamba flowers does not go to the abode of Yamaraj. If one worships Lord Garudadvaja or Lord Vishnu with rose flowers in the month of Kartika certainly gets liberation. If one worships the Lord with Bakula and Ashoka flowers then he becomes freed from lementation for as long as the sun and the moon rise in the sky. If one worships the lord with sami leaves escapes the punishment of Yamaraja. If one worships Lord Vishnu who is the controler of the demigod with Champaka flowers during the rainy reason then he will not have to take birth again within the material world. If one offers yellow coloured Ketaki flowers to Lord Vishnu then all his sinful reactions accumulated from millions of life time is distroyed. If one offers red coloured fragrent hundred petelled lotus flower Lord Jagannatha then he returns to the abode of the lord known as Svetadvipa.

O best of the brahmins! One should remain awake on the night of Ekadashi. On the day of dvadasi one should worship lord Vishnu and complete his vow by feeding the brahmins. According to ones ability if one should worships his spiritual master and gives him charity then the supreme lord becomes freed with him.

i am trying to make a post on questions i have regarding how should i chant the mantrarajas- i have began to chant the name of Gauranga for about three moths now, everyday 10 rounds, and i would like to know is it possible to chant the name of Gauranga in my mind if i do not have enough strength to make it by voice, and when should i begin chanting the name of Nityananda? and another question, since you have written in your site that the name Gauranga is of four syllibles should i chant it as Gau-ra-an-ga or just like three syllibles as Gau-ran-ga?

Navadvipa Dhama Mahatmya Parikrama-khanda Chapter Six spoken by Lord Nityananda to Jiva Goswami:

After saying this, Nityananda Prabhu took Jiva and quickly entered the Chand Kazi’s village, where He said, “O Jiva, hear My words. The Chand Kazi’s village is none other than Mathura. After performing kirtana, Gauranga gave love of God to the Kazi and liberated him. Mathura’s King Kamsa of krishna-lila became Chand Kazi in gaura-lila. For that reason Gauranga addressed the Kazi as His maternal uncle, and out of fear the Kazi took shelter of Gauranga’s lotus feet.

“Under orders from Hussain Shah, who was the king of the Bengal empire and Jarasandha in krishna-lila, the Kazi caused disturbance during kirtana performance by breaking the mridangas. The Lord, appearing in the form of Nrisimha, put fear in the Kazi’s heart. Like Kamsa, the Kazi cowered in fear. Shri Chaitanya, however, gave him prema and thus made the Kazi a great devotee. The very fortunate hear this story of the Kazi’s liberation.

“Just see the difference between Vraja-tattva and Navadvipa-tattva. Those who offend Krishna are liberated by merging into the Lord’s effulgence, whereas in Navadvipa the offenders receive the treasure of love of God. Therefore, Lord Gauranga’s pastimes are considered the highest. Gauranga’s abode, name, form, and qualities do not consider offense; rather, they expertly deliver one from any offense. If the devotee has some offense in his heart, then Krishna’s name and abode will deliver him only after a long time. But Gauranga’s name and abode immediately bestow prema on the devotee, for offenses create no obstacle and are easily overcome. O Jiva, see the Kazi’s samadhi. By seeing this samadhi the living entities’ old age and disease are vanquished.”

The spiritual form and dimensions of Shri Dhaama Verses 18-48

nityaananda-kripaa yaara prati kabhu haya, se dekhe aananda-dhaama sarvatra chinmaya. 18

“This supremely blissful and entirely transcendental abode of Shri Gauda Mandala can be actually seen by only that fortunate soul who receives the direct mercy of Lord Nityananda Prabhu.”

gangaa-yamunaadi tathaa sadaa vidyamaana, saptapuri prayaagaadi aache sthaane sthaana. 19

“The supremely holy rivers of Ganga, Yamuna etc. are eternally manifest here. The seven most sacred places of pilgrimage like Mathuraa, Dvaaraka, Ayodhyaa, Prayaaga, Haridvaara, Ujjain, Kashi, Kanchi etc. are also eternally manifest at different places in Shri Gauda Mandala.”

saakshat vaikuntha-tattva gauda-mandala, bhaagyavaan jiva taahaa dekhe niramala. 20

“Shri Gauda Mandala is the direct manifestation of Vaikuntha or the highest region of the spiritual world. Only the most fortunate souls can see this Gauda Mandala as the supremely pure abode of the Lord from the spiritual world.”

svarupa-saktira chaayaa maayaa bali yaare, prabhura aajnaaya nija prabhaava vistaare. 21

“The shadow of the svarupa-shakti (personal internal potency) of the Lord is known as Maayaa or the illusory energy in this material world. This illusory energy expands its influence everywhere in this material world due to the desire of the supreme Lord Himself.”

bahirmukha jiva-cakshu kare aavarana, cid-dhaama-prabhaava sabe naa paaya darshana. 22

“This Maayaa covers the eyes of the sensual conditioned souls in the form of a veil of ignorance so that they are not able to behold the actual transcendental and conscious nature of the holy abode of Shri Gauda Mandala.”

e gauda-mandale yaara vaasa nirantara, bada bhaagyavaan sei samsaara bhitara. 23

“Those supremely fortunate souls who constantly reside within this divine region of Shri Gauda Mandala are the most blessed souls within this universe.”

devagane svarge thaki dekhe sei jane, catur-bhuja shyaama-kaanti apurva gathane. 24

“When the demigods see these fortunate souls who are residing in Navadvipa from their heavenly planets, they are astonished to behold all of them in transcendentally bluish four-handed forms possessing unparalledly beautiful and delicate bodily limbs.”

shola-krosha-navadvipa-dhaama-vaasi yata, gaura-kanti, sadaa naama-sankirtane rata. 25

“The demigods are suprised to see that all these eternal residents staying within the 32 miles of Shri Navadvipa Mandala possess a brightly golden complexion just like the Lord Himself and they are always engaged and absorbed in chanting and singing the Holy Names of the Lord.”

brahmaa-aadi deva-gane antariksha haite, navadvipa-vaasi-gane puja naanaa-mate. 26

“Even Lord Brahmaa and other exalted demigods elaborately worship these fortunate residents of Shri Navadvipa Dhaama from their respective positions in the sky by performing various kinds of rites.”

brahmaa bale kabe mora hena bhaagya habe, navadvipe trina-kalevara paaba yabe. 27

“Lord Brahmaa starts asking about when will he become so blessed and fortunate as to receive a divine body of even a tiny blade of grass in this transcendental abode of Shri Navadvipa Dhaama.”

shri gaura-carana-sevaa kare jata jana, taa-sabaara pada-renu labhiba takhana. 28

“In that way Lord Brahmaa desires to obtain the dust particles from the lotus feet of those eternal residents of Navadvipa who are engrossed in serving the divine lotus feet of Lord Gauraanga Mahaaprabhu.”

haaya more gaurachandra vanchanaa kariyaa, brahmaandera adhipati raakhila kariyaa. 29

“Lord Brahmaa sighs, ‘Alas, the Supreme Lord Gaurachandra has deceived me away from His eternal service in Navadvipa and forced me to become and remain the master controller of this universe.”

kabe mora karma-granthi haibe chedana, abhimaana tyaji mora shuddha habe mana. 30

“Lord Brahmaa is wondering when will his strong knot of karmic reactions be severed and when will he be able to give up his false ego and approach Navadvipa with a purified mind.”

adhikaara buddhi mora kabe habe kshaya, suddha daasa haye paaba gaura-padaashraya. 31

“Lord Brahmaa pleads, ‘When will my sense of pride and artificial qualification be permanently annihilated and when will I become a pure unalloyed servant and thus attain the divine shade and shelter of Lord Gauraanga’s lotus feet.”

deva-gana, rishi-gana, rudra-gana, jata, sthaane sthaane navadvipe vaise avirata. 32

“The various demigods, saints, sages, rudras (shivas) etc. eternally and constantly reside at different holy places in Shri Navadvipa mandala.”

chira kaale tapa kari jivana kaataaya, tabu nityaananda-kripaa se sabe naa paaya. 33

“Even though all of them are performing austerities from time immemorial and passing their lives in this way, still they are not able to receive the causeless mercy of Lord Nityananda Prabhu.”

deva-buddhi jata-dina naahi jaaya dure, jata-dina dainya-bhaave mane naahi sphure. 34
tata-dina shri gaura-nitaai-kripaa-dhana, brahmaa-shiva naahi paaya kariyaa yatana. 35

“Till that day these demigods are not able to give up their false ego of being demigods and till that day the mood of genuine humility does not manifest in their hearts; till that day they will not receive the ultimate treasure of the supreme mercy of Shri Gaura Nitai, even though these exalted demigods like Brahmaa, Shiva etc. may intensely endeavor for it.”

ei saba kathaa aage haibe prakaasha, yatna kari shuna bhaai kariyaa vishvaasa. 36

“All these mysterious secrets will be revealed in the next verses so my dear readers, please hear with great faith and attention.”

e saba vishaye bhaai tarka parihara, tarka se apaartha ati amangala-kara. 37

“Thus my dear brothers and sisters, please give up your preconceived speculations and arguments in regards to these topics because one always ends up with the wrong meaning by mental speculation, thus creating inauspiciousness for oneself and others.”

shri chaitanya-lilaa haya gabhira saagara, mochaakolaa-rupa tarka tathaaya phaanpara. 38

“Since the divine ocean of the transcendental pastimes of Lord Chaitanya Mahaaprabhu is extremely deep and profound, mental speculation in this regard is as worthless and unproductive as the sheath covering the banana flower.”

tarka kari e samsaara taarite je chaaya, viphala taahaara cheshthaa kichui naa paaya. 39

“All actions of those foolish people who want to cross this mundane ocean of birth and death simply by mental speculation are in vain and they end up with nothing of any value.”

tarke jalaanjali diyaa saadhu-shaastra dhare, achire chaitanya-laabha sei jana kare. 40

“The intelligent soul who permenantly discards and renounces this mental speculation and accepts the divine words of the holy vedic scriptures and sadhus with faith, attains the Supreme Lord Chaitanya Mahaaprabhu Himself without any delay.”

shruti-smriti-tantra-shaastra avirata gaaya,nadiyaa-maahaatmya nityaanandera aajnaaya. 41

“By the direct order and instruction of the Servitor Godhead Lord Nityananda Prabhu Himself, the transcendental glories of Shri Navadvipa mandala are constantly sung in the Vedic shrutis (4 Vedas, Vedanta, 108 Upanishads etc.), smritis (Puranas etc.), tantras and other holy vedic scriptures.”

sei saba shaastra pada saadhu-vaakya maana, tabe ta haibe tava navadvipa-gyaana. 42

“Dear readers, kindly read these Vedic scriptures and verses with great faith and enthusiasm. Only then will you understand the divine knowledge about Shri Navadvipa Dhaama.”

kali-kaale tirtha-saba atyanta durbala,navadvipa-tirtha maatra parama prabala. 43

“In this degraded age of Kali-yuga, all the holy places have become extremely weakened and incapacitated due to the depositing of sins. Only the holy abode of Navadvipa still remains supremely potent and powerful to purify the sinful souls of Kali-yuga.”

prabhura icchaaya sei tirtha bahu dina, aprakata mahimaa aachila sphurti-hina. 44

“By the inconceivable desire of Lord Gaura Krishna, the supreme glories of this confidential abode of Navadvipa were kept concealed and hidden in unmanifested form for a very long time.”

kalira prabhaava jabe atyanta baadila, anya tirtha svabhaavatah nisteja haila. 45

“When the negative influence and vibrations of Kali-yuga increased to a considerable extent, all the other holy places lost their radiance and potency as a natural effect of this degrading age.”

jivera mangala laagi purusha-pradhaana, mane mane chintaa kari karila vidhaana. 46

“Repeatedly worrying about and contemplating the auspicious upliftment of the fallen souls of Kali-yuga, the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauraanga Krishna Himself resolved in the following way.”

pidaa bujhi vaidyaraaja aushadha khaaoyaaya, kathina aushadha deya kathina pidaaya. 47

“‘An expert Ayurvedic doctor will prescribe medicines according to the seriousness of the disease. Without the most powerful medicine, the most chronic disease cannot be cured.’”

ebe kali ghore haila roga haila bhaari, kathina aushadha vinaa nivaarite naari. 48

“The Lord deliberated further, ‘The ghastly Kali-yuga has come and the disease has heavily intensified. So if I do not administer the most powerful medicine to these people of Kali-yuga there is no hope for them to be cured.”

The spiritual form and dimensions of Shri Dhaama Verses 6-17

panca-krosha haya taara keshara aadhaara, parimala purna pushpa yojana chatvaara. 6

“The circumference of the central whorl (Antardvipa) of the divine lotus flower of Shri Gauda Mandala is 5 kroshas (10 miles). And the circumference of the inner nine-petalled divine lotus (Navadvipa) is 4 yojanas (32 miles).”

baahira paapadi taare shata-dala haya, ekaadhika yojana vimshati vistaaraya. 7

“Outside this inner nine-petalled lotus (Navadvipa) are 100 other divine lotus petals (Gauda Mandala) which encompass a complete area with a circumference of 21 yojanas (168 miles).”

mandala paridhi haya sei parimaana, yojana saptaka vyaasa shaastrera vidhaana. 8

“According to the verdict of Shrila Vyaasadeva and the Vedic scriptures, the diameter measurement of this outer 100-petalled divine lotus Gaura Mandala is 7 yojanas (56 miles).

vyaasaardha-pramaana saardha tritiya yojana, madhya-bindu haite taara haibe ganana. 9

“Thus the divine radius of this Gauda Mandala is 3.5 yojanas (28 miles). This radius is measured exactly from the central point of Gauda Mandala.”

madhya-bindu navadvipa-dhaama madhya-sthala, yoga-pitha haya taahaa chinmaya vimala. 10

“This all-important central point of the divine Navadvipa Mandala is the centrally situated Yogapitha (birth and meeting place of the Lord), which is completely pure, sacred and transcendental.”

chintaamani-rupa haya e gauda-mandala, cid-aananda-maya-dhaama chinmaya sakala. 11

“This divine Shri Gauda Mandala is entirely a transcendental wish-fulfilling touchstone. This holy abode is full of divine knowledge and happiness and thus everything is fully spiritually conscious here.”

jala-bhumi-vriksha-aadi sakali chinmaya, sadaa vidyamaana tathaa krishna-shakti-traya. 12

“The divine water, land, trees etc. within these 168 miles of Shri Gauda Mandala are fully conscious and transcendental. The three main potencies of Lord Krishna (sandhini or eternity, samvit or knowledge, and hladini or pleasure) are eternally and constantly present here.”

svarupa-shaktira yei sandhini-prabhaava, taara parinati ei dhaamera svabhaava. 13

“The main divine characteristic of svarupa-shakti (internal potency) is sandhini or eternal existence which is the basis of the spiritual creation. The eternal nature of this holy abode of Shri Gauda Mandala is the manifestation of this sandhini shakti which supports the entire existence.”

prabhu-lilaa-pitha-rupe dhaama nitya haya, achintya shaktira kaarya praapanchika naya. 14

“Since this holy abode of Shri Navadvipa Dhaama is the direct shrine of the Lord’s transcendental pastimes, it manifests from the Lord’s inconcievable energies and it is indestructible, eternal and untouchable by any mundane characteristics.”

tabe je e dhaame dekhe prapanchera sama, baddha-jive taahe haya avidyaa vibhrama. 15

“In spite of this if someone sees this Gauda Mandala as a temporary illusion of the Lord’s material energy, such an unfortunate soul is considered to be conditioned by matter and greatly bewildered by ignorance.”

meghaacchanna chakshu dekhe surya aacchaadita, divaakara naahi kabhu haya meghaavrita. 16

“This can be compared to our covered and imperfect vision when we cannot see the sun due to the extensive covering of clouds which block our sight. In reality however, the sun is never covered or touched by the clouds.”

I am wondering if any of the devotees here (or even Swami Gaurangapada) could give me some feedback about “Chywanprash?”

I’ve read a bit about it on the internet, and it sounds like it could be a good way of taking Ayurvedic herbs as a health tonic and immune booster. But I have also read some things that have said the major brands (Dabur, Himani, etc.) are little more than “junk food” masquerading as “health food.”

I’ve tried both Dabur and Himani and like the taste of both. I also tried an “organic” version by Banyan Botanicals, but it was much too expensive to be a regular option for me.

Any feedback on Chyawanprash would be very helpful.

Pastimes in heart

Dandavat Pranaams.

In one of your posts you said that there are two types of devotees who see the pasttimes of the Lord in their heart. One of them is not a 100% pure devotee thus he sees the pasttimes in his heart show to him by the parmatma in his heart via a divine channel i.e Kshirodakshayi Vishnu to Garbhodakshayi Vishnu to Maha Vishnu ….. to Lord Nityaananda Balraam to Lord Gauraanga Krishna. These pasttimes are shown by the paramatma via this divine channel according to the purification of the devotee.

Whereas in a perfected soul(100% pure devotee) the Original Lords along with the entire Goloka enters his heart.

I am finding this very difficult to understand. Can you pls guide in detail.

The night before ,with the mercy of Nityananda, I had a very nice dream. In my dream I saw Damodar and His friends. My dream was a cartoon, depicting His divine childhood. A friend was holding peanuts and was about to prepare peanuts with ghee for Govinda. The scene was coloured with bliss and happiness. I realized,later, when I woke up and while chanting, that wherever I find myself and no matter of the circumstances-chanting is what gives my life sense.

Fundamental Spiritual Right and Duty

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna!

For those serious about advancing spiritually, but who are new and who are searching for guidance, the Lord has given many many assurances in the scriptures. Therefore please note the following.

1) For those seeking a guru, it is your FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT AND DUTY to ask for nothing less than a guru of the highest caliber. The guru is the most important element of devotion. The Lord WILL take you to your guru if you ask Him. He has given the assurance, so use the facility!

2) It is your right and duty to ask for SPIRITUAL OPPORTUNITIES. People complain that they don’t have opportunity, but how many asked sincerely for one? Sooner or later, it HAS to come. If it doesn’t come, or you didn’t see it when it came, don’t hesitate to pester the Lord left right and center for more chances. “Trouble” Him continuously the way spam messages keep pestering you regularly.

3) Don’t fall prey to the disease of ‘EXCUSE-ITIS’ and keep giving various “but ifs” and “what ifs”. As I pointed out, skepticism in spirituality is foolosophy, not philosophy. Check the previous post.

4) A note of caution : When you ask for an opportunity, also MAKE SURE you ask the Lord to give you the eyes to RECOGNIZE the opportunity when it stands before you. We don’t really have any power to see the Lord or the guru or a spiritual opportunity when it comes, it’s only the Lord’s mercy that allows us to see.

5) Further, leave it to the Lord to decide your opportunity and who your guru should be, or else you could end up getting cheated by someone who will ultimately take you for a ride and spoil your faith. People leave when they get disappointed and realize they have been cheated. Remember, the Lord knows best.

To those newcomers who are interested in spirituality and who are looking for direction, these are some of your Fundamental Rights and Duties. If you didn’t know till now, atleast know now and use them. Our best wishes for your spiritual success.

Position of Guru

Dear Guruji and devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to the Vaisnavas. All glories to Lord Nityananda. All glories to Lord Gauranga. All glories to Sri Sri Radha Govinda.

I was puzzled by a comment of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Prabhupada on one of the verses in the Sri Chaitanya Bhagavata. It is in chapter twenty two of the Madhya-khanda where Lord Gauranga climbs on the throne of Lord Vishnu, taking all His forms as salagramas-silas on His lap. In a jubilant mood He reveals His true identity. Lord Nityananda immediately holds an umbrella over the Lord?s head and Lord Gadadhara offers betel nuts while devotees from all sides fan the Lord with camaras.� On this ecstatic occasion Lord Gauranga in a very joyful mood says: ?O Nada (Lord Advaita), O Srinivase! Ask for some benediction!? As a matter of fact the Lord distributed pure devotional love allowing everybody present to ask for benedictions according to their desires.

Then it says in text 22: ?According to their respective attachments, someone requested a benediction for his guru, someone for his student, someone for his son, and someone for his wife.?

This statement of Sri Vrndava dasa Thakura is clear and fully understandable. But in his commentary Srila Bhaktisiddhanta adds to this statement. He writes: ?When Lord Gaurasundara displayed His divine manifestation, various persons requested benedictions for their offensive guru, offensive son, offensive disciple, or offensive wife; in other words, when various persons prayed for devotional service for their loved ones, the Lord awarded them suitable benedictions.?

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta adds the word offensive to the original statements of Sri Vrndava dasa Thakura. I thought: Behold that sublime most wonderful and most beautiful pastime of Lord Gaurasundara sitting on the throne of Lord Vishnu, served directly by Lord Nityananda and Lord Gadhadara. Just remembering that breathtaking narration alone is already beyond any comparison. The people who were present when the Lord unfolded this pastime are certainly no ordinary people. They must have undergone millions of lifetimes of purification to be allowed in the direct presence of Lord Gauranga Krishna. Like only a selected group of devotees where allowed to participate at the nightlong kirtans at Srivasa?s house while others were standing outside. So we are talking about the highest qualified and most pure souls who are allowed to directly ask for these benedictions. That evoked a whole host of questions in me: how can these highly qualified people have guru?s who are offensive? How can they take the position to be higher qualified than their guru and have the audacity to ask a benediction for their offensive guru? How can they be connected to the parampara al the way back to Lord Krishna Gauranga when their guru is offensive? And is it not offensive in itself to even consider your guru to be offensive?

I know the Lord gives me always answers to these questions. But not right at the moment when the questions arise. It takes long and determined meditations. That?s why I go so slowly through the Sri Chaitanya Bhagavata; I have to read and re-read and chant and contemplate many times before I get even a glimpse of what is really said. Sometimes I read a verse, close my eyes and ponder on what is written. And then in the ecstasy itself the answers are hidden. Lord Gauranga descended to distribute ecstatic love of God. The answers come when you see His vibrating golden hue emanating from His body, sitting on the throne of Lord Vishnu, the radiant Lord Nityananda holding an umbrella over His head, devoted Lord Gadhadara feeding Him betel nuts, many devotees fanning Him. When you read these verses and you close your eyes and recollect them with your inner eye, while silently chanting His holy Names, there comes a moment you get absorbed in this picture. Then oceans of answers flood your soul and everything is as clear as it can be however you have also entered the realm of the indescribable.

All these persons where in the highest position and in the most precious circumstances being present directly in Lord Krishna Gauranga?s and Lord Nityananda?s presence. This in itself IS the benediction. There is nothing more to be asked for. However some of these people found themselves present in this highest of all circumstances without their guru being present with them. They had the deep compassion and desire to have their beloved guru in that same ultimate position. So they asked for the benediction to make their guru as sublimely happy as they were. The fact that their gurus were not present at that most glorious moment speaks for itself. We cannot speculate about the kind of offences however, in the context of the previous chapter with Devananda Pandita, and what comes after this about the offence of mother Saci, it points in the direction of Vaisnava aparadha. Maybe there was some offence in the heart of the guru towards his own pure disciple and this was the disciple?s way of completely forgiving their guru. We don?t need to know. It is the ecstasy of being in the present of Lord Nityananda Gauranga Krishna Themselves which gives birth to the compassion and desire to have all living entities in that same position. When you are overwhelmed with pure love of the Lord you naturally want everybody to experience the same. That is the purity of a soul overwhelmed with love for the Lord: he or she wants that all living entities get the same benediction. There is no trace of negativity in the pure devotee of the Lord and all he wants is that all souls experience the highest ecstasy of pure love for the Lord: ?Dear Lord Gauranga I do not want anything for myself; O Lord Nityananda please make my guru as happy as I am, O Srimati Radharani make my wife as happy as I am, O Lord Krishna make my son as happy as I am, O Lord of all Lords make everybody as happy as I am.?

3 part poem addressing the point why no one can compromise on the most important principle of spiritual life.

WHY LUST IS WRONG

Part 1 : The Absolute view on Lust

O souls! Please hear oh hear!
You are all spiritual candidates,
Whose ultimate goal is to attain the Supreme Lord,
But to do that, you must conquer the fundamental disease,
Known as LUST.

Today the souls face innumerable setbacks in attaining the Lord,
Facing their own bewilderment in illusion starting with lust,
Which lead to dreadful problems,
Pulling us further and further away from the Lord,
Please, oh please, chant the most merciful mantrarjas “Nityananda!” and “Gauranga!”
And the sublimely sweet Mahamantra
“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Raama Hare Raama Raama Raama Hare Hare”
Chant these three kings of mantras at all times,

Say a firm “NO!” to maya,
And an even more firm “YES!” to the Lord.
Save all your negativism and skepticism for maya, not bhakti.

Lust is the #1 enemy of devotion,
To satisfy our lust we try to cheat,
We give many imaginary justifications,
Faithless offenders ask, “Why? What’s wrong?”
To them I reply, “Why? What’s NOT wrong?”

Oh friends! This cheating is the worst, worse than lust itself!
Cheating in devotion is the ticket to destruction of your creeper of devotion!
It is an invitation to maya to attack in all her glory.
When you give her an inch, she takes up a mile.

In bhakti it is ok to be limited, to be weak, to be defective, to be helpless, to be ignorant, etc, etc, etc…..
To be in an animal’s, insect’s or even a plants’ body.
None of those things really matter
But it is never ok to cheat, never!
Those who try to cheat become the cheated,
Cheating is the mother of all offenses, all sins, all evils,
The Lord will deliver any one even more sinful than Jagai and Madhai
If one just does not cheat.
When we cheat, we don?t trust the Lord, we don’t love Him,
We say we believe in God,
But the way we act, none of us believe in God,
What to speak of devotion, when even basic faith is absent?

Anyone can be delivered, but there is no hope for a person determined to cheat.
If you can’t say “YES” to the Lord, you’ll still be delivered,
As long as you don’t say “NO”
You can wake up those who are really sleeping,
But not someone pretending to sleep and who doesn’t want to wake up.

Please never compare yourself to others,
Thinking, “The whole world does it. Do they suffer?”
Then your vision becomes relative and material,
And you lose sight of the Absolute.
Relative vision of lust is simply utter nonsense in the most degraded form,
When you ignore the Lord’s Absolute view,
What is right and what is wrong is simply arbitrary,
What was wrong yesterday will become right tomorrow,
And it is only a matter of time
Before all of society turns into to hell.

O souls! Please realize this truth,
No one can escape the punishment of maya,
The “whole world” does suffer for their sins,
Wars, diseases, disasters, personal tragedies, the list is endless…
If you are not convinced, wait and watch,
And see whatever little devotion the cheaters have,
Dwindle to zero, as they become atheistic impersonalists,
The lusty world you admire will meet its day when time is up,
And then reality awaits in the abode of Yamaraj,
As scriptures led by Srimad Bhagavatam declare it,
Behold the fate of your friends who intimidated you, “Lust isn’t wrong!”
For those who say, “I don’t believe that…”
They too will realize the truth very soon,
Why go to hell when in this age of Kali, hell already exists on earth!

So always see the Absolute standard,
See it as the Lord and His devotees see it.
Be honest, humble and open minded to the truth, though it may be bitter,
Which ultimately takes you to the sweetest of all endings.

Today I humble ask for your blessings so I may continue to serve your lotus feet. Your gift to the world is beyond comprehension especially for devotees who question the importance of chanting the holy Names of Lord Nityananda and Gauranga.

I humbly pray at your lotus feet for those who are offensive to your preaching the mantrarajas that you kindly forgive them and they can continue their spiritual practice so at one point in time they understand the glories of chanting the holy Names of Lord Nityananda and Lord Gauranga.

I humbly pray at your lotus feet for everybody who has ever committed knowingly and unknowingly an offence at your feet and that in the greatness of your loving heart you will forgive them.

You are the gate and the connection to the parampara and the Lord and I pray that this gate will remain wide open for everybody who wants to enter into the highest of all experiences: love for the Lord.

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta on the importance of chanting Gauraanga

On chanting Gauranga

The Jata Gosais and Brijbasis had the practice of giving manjari svarupa and a manjari name at the time of initiation. From the very beginning, their initiates would claim to have understood their position as a manjari (intimate gopi assistant of Srimati Radharani). Sarasvati Thakura did not approve of such a process and would say, �??FIRST CHANT THE NAME OF GAURANGA”. After getting the mercy of Lord Caitanya there will be anartha nivritti. Then there is the possibility of artha pravriti. Anartha nivritti means to get rid of all the bad things in the heart, and artha pravriti means to enter into, or develop ones actual goal of life. Those who do not obey Caitanya Mahaprabhu, their claims of being manjaris and their worship of Radharani is all false.�?�

Bhaktivinoda Thakura and brahmana ghost

When Sarasvati Thakura was young he was often taken to visit holy places of Bengal by his father, Bhaktivinoda Thakura. Bengal abounds in holy places connected to Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His associates. Once they set out for Kulina-grama, a village whose inhabitants were very dear to Caitanya Mahaprabhu (cf. Caitanya-caritamrta Adi-lila 10.80-83). Arriving there late one evening, father and son were given a house to stay in. Next morning the villagers asked, �??Did you sleep comfortably?�?�
Bhaktivinoda replied, �??Yes! Thank you very much.�?� Surprised, the villagers asked, �??How could you sleep? That house is haunted by a brahma-raksasa (the ghost of a brahmana). We had no other place to give you. But no-one can sleep there peacefully because of disturbances from the ghost.�?� Bhaktivinoda Thakura replied, �??Yes, that ghost came and tried to disturb us. But I chanted the Hare Krsna maha-mantra very loudly. As a result, not only did the ghost go away, but I can assure you he will not trouble anyone else any more.�?� Astonished, the villagers asked Bhaktivinoda Thakura, �??How could you send him away by chanting Hare Krsna? He was a priest here in this village and he chanted �??Hare Krsna�?? throughout his life. How then, did he become a ghost, and how was it that your chanting has sent him away?�?�
Bhaktivinoda Thakura explained that the priest�??s chanting could not have been actual chanting at all. Sinful people make a show of chanting with the intention of acquiring wealth and reputation. Such so-called chanting is only cheating. It is not actual chanting. Bhaktivinoda Thakura quoted Jagadananda Pandita�??s Prema-vivarta: �?� �??asadhu-sange bhai nama kabhu naya, bahire nama-aksara bate, tabe nama nahi haya�?? �??Those not in the association of bona-fide devotees, strictly following theirinstructions, cannot actually chant the holy names. Even though they may externally vibrate the sound, �??Hare Krsna,�?� thatis not actually the name of Krsna.�??
The name of Krsna is non-different from Krsna. It is completely pure and spiritual. Krsna-nama does not allow Himself to be hijacked by materialists. This man never actually chanted the Hare Krsna mantra even once in his life. On the contrary, he was a sinful person who wanted to use the name for sense gratification. Because of the great offense of taking Krsna�??s name to cheat people, he became a ghost. When I chanted, Krsna was pleased to manifest Himself as that sound. A sinful ghost cannot stay in the presence of such chanting.�?� This incident was published in a famous daily newspaper of Bengal, the �??Amrit Bazar Patrika.�?�After this, the glories of Bhaktivinoda Thakura becamewidely known for the first time.
