UPDATE 9/5/2011

Calculating votes across the board on my website, Facebook, Google + and Youtube.. it looks like I’ll be in a corset and cables for the calendar shoot. I’m pretty excited about this theme actually as I really get to express how technology can ‘tether’ and ‘bind’ us at times.. I’ll announce more about the calendar as it gets closer!

In support of the Breast Cancer Research Fund, I’m very excited to have been chosen as one of the models who will represent the face (among other things) of geek in the 2012 Girls of Geek calendar!

I have no money to gain from this personally but a portion of each sale will help fund research for this worthy cause. For Breast Cancer Awareness month this October, the calendars will be printed featuring myself and 11 other girls in varying states of nerdiness for your viewing pleasure.

I’ve been addicted to playing Words with Friends on my Android phone lately which got me thinking about my favorite words. I wanted to share some of them with you, and I hoped you would share yours with me. I am going to give away a prize to the person who responds with the word I like best, so please write your favorites in the comments on Youtube!

Also, if you aren’t familiar with any of the words I like, here’s a list with along definitions. Post yours up too and lets learn some new vocabulary!

Tentative – unsure; uncertain; not definite or positive; hesitant
Plaintive - expressing sorrow or melancholy; mournful
Coalesce - to blend or come together
Effervesce - to show enthusiasm, excitement, liveliness, etc.; to give off bubbles of gas, as fermenting liquors
Purpose - the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc.

Porpoise - a toothed sea mammal, related to the whales and dolphins, that has a blunt snout and a triangular dorsal fin.

Poise – a dignified, self-confident manner or bearing; composure; self-possession
Procrastinate - to put off till another day or time; defer; delay
Eviscerate - to remove the entrails from; disembowel
Epitome - a person or thing that is typical of or possesses to a high degree the features of a whole class

Dichotomy - division into two mutually exclusive, opposed, or contradictory groups
Fortuitous - happening or produced by chance; accidental; lucky; fortunate
Serendipitous - come upon or found by accident; fortuitous; good; beneficial; favorable
Extemporaneous - done, spoken, performed, etc., without special advance preparation; impromptu
Lascivious - inclined to lustfulness; wanton; lewd
Debauchery - excessive indulgence in sensual pleasures; intemperance
Soliloquy - an utterance or discourse by a person who is talking to himself or herself or is disregardful of or oblivious to any hearers present (often used as a device in drama to disclose a character’s innermost thoughts)
Evanescent - vanishing; fading away; fleeting
Succulent - full of juice; juicy; rich in desirable qualities
Shenanigans - a mischievous or deceitful trick, practice, etc.
