Welcome to another edition of the NJFBLA Five Faces! Although many of us have the goal to pursue a business-related career, it cannot be stressed enough how FBLA can benefit you no matter where you go in life. This is the premier student business organization, but it provides to you with the Keys to Success no matter what you want to do! So without further ado, here are the October FBLA Five Faces; read them, vote on them and let me know what you think!

Interior Designer

Interior designers focus on enhancing the function, safety, and aesthetics of interior spaces. They spend lots of time and energy on figuring out how different colors, textures, furniture, lighting, and space will work together to meet the needs of the building’s occupants and create the ideal atmosphere for a space.
FBLA competitive events: Client Service, Digital Design & Promotion, Website Design, Cover Design Stimulation Programming, Computer Problem Solving

Desktop Publishers

Using computer software, desktop publishers combine printed material, numbers, pictures, and charts to prepare publications. They must know how to design their works to market to the public opinion because good publications are not only informational but eye-catching as well.
FBLA competitive events: Desktop Publishing, World Processing I/II, Computer Applications, Digital Design & Promotion, and Marketing

Database Administrator

Today the internet is home to vast amounts of data, all of which is stored on computer databases. Database administrators work with database software to store, organize, and manage this data. To accomplish these tasks database administrators must be able to pay attention to detail and work well with teams. Communication and a strong computer background is important.
FBLA competitive events: Database Design & Applications, Computer Problem Solving, Desktop Application Programming, Technology Concepts, Management Information Systems

Architect

Architects design houses and buildings like offices and apartments. Their plans involve far more than a building’s looks. They must ensure that buildings are safe, strong and fit the needs of the people who use them. Being able to use computers and thinking efficiently is important.
FBLA Competitive Events: Computer Applications, Client Services, Business Math, Business Calculations

Civil Engineer

Civil engineers design things like roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supply and sewage systems. They must consider many factors in their designs, from the costs to making sure the structure will stay intact during bad weather.

Now that the State Leadership Conference is over, we are nearing the end of the FBLA year. Congratulations on all of the great things you have accomplished so far, and keep up the good work. Thank you to each member of FBLA who attended this year! You truly have made an impact in the world by being proactive leaders in your communities.

The current State Officer Team is extremely eager to continue working in their positions until the end of May. On June 1, the 2012-2013 State Officer Candidates, who campaigned and attained their chosen positions, will take office.

Hey New Jersey FBLA members!

Can you believe that the 2012 New Jersey FBLA State Leadership Conference is right around the corner? I can’t believe it has been three years since I attended my very first SLC!

One of the events at this year’s SLC is a Blue Jeans for Babies Dance. It will be held on the first night of the conference: Thursday, March 15. Remember to bring a few dollars to the dance in order to support the March of Dimes and participate in some other fun activities! FBLA has a wonderful partnership with the March of Dimes and I am excited to continue our support of the amazing charity at this year’s SLC.

If you have any questions about the dance, or community service in general, please email me at service@njfbla.org and I will be happy to help. I look forward to hopefully seeing many New Jersey FBLA members at the Blue Jeans for Babies Dance!

-Evan

Attention NJ FBLA Members and Advisers:

With the 2012 State Leadership Conference just around the corner, this is a friendly reminder to make sure all membership dues are sent to the National Office no later than March 1, 2012. Members must pay their dues and ensure membership if they wish to participate and compete at this year’s SLC in March as well as the National Leadership Conference to be held this summer. Chapters should check that dues were sent in for all members. If any members were added to a chapter after the year’s earlier membership registration they still must pay to participate and compete. NO EXCEPTIONS. If unsure for any reason about the status of dues, advisers should log onto the National website and view their membership status from there.

That being said, I look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks for the 2012 State Leadership Conference to be held at the East Brunswick Hilton. See you then!
