Happy Mothers Day!

Join the Moore family in this timely documentary as they briefly expose the evil history of the birth control movement on the 50th anniversary of “the pill.”  Listen as they transparently share their testimony of how God, in His grace and mercy, opened their eyes in spite of their own sinful beginning. It has been almost four months since my last update but we are still alive and kicking! Our precious new baby boy (Child # 8) arrived in January bringing us to an even four boys and four girls; ages 11 to almost 3 months :-) Life has been even more blessedly busy and pretty much anything beyond survival and laundry and survival OF laundry has been pushed to a very crowded back burner. We are settling in to a bit of a routine though ( Using “routine” rather loosely there…) and I hope to be back to posting again a little more frequently as I’m able.  “Hope” and “little” likely being the key words…;-).  However, that is quite alright by me. These wonderful, crazy days of real life are so full and go by so quickly, the virtual world will have to wait it’s turn. A new twist on the classic poem sums it up:

Blogging and posting can wait ’till tomorrow,
For babies grow up, we’ve learned to our sorrow.
So I’m logging out, Facebook; Laptop go to sleep,
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

In their documentary,  The Monstrous Regiment of Women, Colin and Emily Gunn have produced an incredible, well-researched, articulate, and powerful expose’ of feminism, its agenda, and its far-reaching, destructive influence on society. They do not just dwell on the negative, however, but give hope by standing firmly on God’s Holy Word and revealing His high esteem of, and plan for, women.

The Gunns do a masterful job of contrasting the ugly truth behind feminism and the havoc it wreaks, with the truth of Biblical womanhood and the joy and beauty that comes from living a life according to the standards set forth in Scripture. The stark difference between feminism (truly another word for self-worship) and Biblical womanhood is stunning.

The cast includes many godly, intelligent, and influential women who are outspoken defenders of Biblical womanhood and lovely examples of the truth of Scripture and lives lived in joyful obedience to the Lord.

Although we were fairly familiar with feminism, its history and agenda, we had our eyes opened all over again and learned even more. We were appalled at the deliberate strategies, carefully planned efforts, and absolute, complete selfishness of this movement.

We would highly recommend this film to every Christian. I would especially encourage fellow believers who are critical of the film (especially those who consider themselves Christan feminists or egalitarians) to prayerfully and carefully watch it with a willingness to truly view it through the lens of Scripture. You might be very surprised at what you find. While you might not agree with all the feminist agendas (and might be appalled at much of it), you may discover that egalitarianism bears many similarities in a diluted form. It is always profitable to re-examine one’s beliefs in the light of Scripture.

When one begins to understand the huge role feminism has played in seeking to destroy the traditional, Biblical family unit, homemakers, manhood, parental authority, morality, marriage, the innocence of children, and – most horrifying of all – children themselves, one realizes that “monstrous” is an excellent and accurate description of this group and its reign of terror.

[Note: One caveat: Take the Gunns at their word of warning at the beginning of the film and do not allow your younger children to view it. (I would keep the film on a high shelf.) There is heartbreaking footage of aborted babies (including video footage) that would be far too much for children to handle. I could not watch it myself. What I did see left me freshly reeling and grieved to the core over the horror of abortion. That one scene best sums up the monstrosities of the feminist movement. This would be an excellent film for crisis pregnancy centers to have on hand.]

According to Krulwich there is increasing evidence that “when a woman has a baby, she gets not just a son or daughter, [but] an army of protective cells – gifts from her children that will stay inside her and defend her for the rest of her life.”

Some interesting points and quotes from the segment:

• “In a teaspoon of an ordinary pregnant woman’s blood… [are] dozens, perhaps even hundreds of cells… from the baby,” according to a Tufts University researcher. Lab studies done “over and over and over and over” of mother mice with diseases (ovarian, endometrial, and cervical cancers) show that fetal cells rush to the places where they’re needed in the mom.

Research involving 1300 women in California suggested those who had four or more children were one third less likely to due from cardiovascular disease. The majority of the effect seemed to result from the prevention of stroke, as mothers of large families were almost 50 per cent less likely to die of a stroke.

I’ve made this homemade egg nog several times over the past month, and everyone who has tried it is amazed by the creaminess and delicious flavor!

This recipe should earn me a few points with “real foodies”, too. The ingredients are all natural, “real” foods. Of course, this egg nog is a sweet dessert beverage… but it’s sweetened with maple syrup! Does that sound odd to you? Well, it tastes amazing!

Pie, that icon of American desserts, is a mystery to many people. What makes pie crust flaky? How can the dough be rolled and formed without sticking or tearing? It’s a shame that pie crust, something with only a few simple ingredients, can cause such fear and trembling in the home baker.

Two crust pie used to be ubiquitous on family tables. Whether sweet or savory, pie was a traditional food easily found and universally enjoyed. Why is it becoming so hard these days to find delicious, well-made two crust pie? Our all-American pastry pie has become a victim in our modern times with the focus on convenience foods and the exodus of home cooks out of the kitchen. Carefully hand-crafted pies have been replaced by factory processed imitations. Fewer and fewer pie makers, the keepers of the pie crafting secrets, are around to pass on the tradition of creating two crust pie. I hope to see a revival of this craft and want to share what I know to further that end.
