Here are more details from UK Athletics:
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky’s 2027 roster got a major jolt on Saturday when star first baseman Hudson Brown withdrew his name from consideration for the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft and announced his return to Lexington.

Brown, a redshirt sophomore, has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

The Olive Brach, Mississippi native enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2026 that likely would have been even better had he not missed a month of Southeastern Conference play while battling mononucleosis that caused him to lose more than 25 pounds on his 6-foot-6 frame.

Still, Brown was sensational in the heart of UK’s lineup and served as the Wildcats’ emotional leader. He batted .333 in 44 games with 36 runs, 12 doubles, seven home runs, 39 RBI and 16 HBP. He walked more times (28) than he struck out (27), stole five bases and produced a 1.028 OPS.

Brown nearly willed the Cats to a regional championship with two home runs in the winner-take-all game. He hit a solo home run off the Big XII Pitcher of the Year and then evaporated a 440-foot three-run blast with two outs in the eighth inning to help push the game to extra innings. In all, he finished 5-of-11, with four runs, six RBI, two home runs, three walks and four hit by pitch in four games. He also had a critical two-run single in the eighth inning of an earlier win in the regional.

The post First Baseman Hudson Brown Announces Return to Kentucky first appeared on Nation of Blue.

Here is an excerpt of Lee’s comments on the decision to seek permanent residency:
“I’m currently in the process, we started our our permanent residency… which would lead me to be a Aussie citizen this time next year,” he said on the Cut to the Jase with NBL legend Jason Cadee.

“(My wife and I have) talked about it, like where do we even just see ourselves retiring and just kind of living for the foreseeable future and we’re like we definitely love Australia and that’s one of our big pushes to be like let’s work on getting this citizenship and if we want to stay here even after basketball we can.

“I think that’s what really drove us is that we just love the culture of Australia.”

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Randall Cobb, arguably the most versatile, dynamic playmaker in Kentucky football history as a wide receiver, quarterback, punt returner and kickoff returner, has been named to the 2027 ballot for consideration for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced Monday. Cobb is one of 80 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 99 players and 39 coaches from the divisional ranks.

Cobb, a native of Alcoa, Tennessee, was a three-year letter winner for the Wildcats from 2008-10. He was named first-team All-America as a junior and first-team All-Southeastern Conference as a sophomore and junior after setting the SEC single-season record for all-purpose yardage (2,396 yards in 2010) and the UK career record for touchdowns (37). As a freshman in 2008, he was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team after accounting for 11 touchdowns – two passing, two receiving and seven rushing.

During the 2010 season, Cobb was a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award as the nation’s most versatile player and was the only FBS player to rank first or second on a team in rushing, passing and receiving.

A clutch player, he scored five game-winning fourth-quarter touchdowns in his career, at Georgia, at Auburn and at home vs. Arkansas, Louisville and South Carolina.

After his junior season, Cobb was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 2011 NFL Draft. Throughout his 13 years in the NFL with four different teams (Packers, Cowboys, Texans and Jets), he totaled over 7,600 receiving yards with 54 touchdowns, including a career-high 1,287 yards in the 2014 campaign with the Packers to earn him a spot in the Pro Bowl.

Despite leaving as a junior, Cobb continued to work on his degree in community and leadership development until graduating in 2016. His graduation fulfilled a vow he made to himself as a child that he would become the first person in his immediate family to graduate from college.

Cobb was inducted into the UK Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017, the (state of) Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022 and the (state of) Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame in 2025.

The announcement of the 2027 NFF College Football Hall of Fame Class will be made in early 2027, with specific details to be announced in the future.

The 2027 NFF College Football Hall of Fame Class will be officially inducted during the 69th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas, and they will be honored at their respective schools with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the 2027 season.

The 2027 voting deadline is July 1. If you would like to become a member and receive this year’s ballot, please contact NFF Director of Membership David Flores at dflores@footballfoundation.com.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Three Kentucky men’s basketball products were named to All-NBA teams on Sunday, marking the fifth-consecutive season in which the Wildcats have boasted multiple All-NBA selections.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (First Team), Tyrese Maxey (Third Team), Jamal Murray (Third Team) were all selected by a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. It is the third time in the last four seasons that three Kentucky products were selected.

Named the NBA’S Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season last week, Gilgeous-Alexander was a unanimous selection to the first team, his fourth season in-a-row as an All-NBA First Team honoree. The Oklahoma City Thunder guard finished the regular season second in scoring with an average of 31.1 points per game while leading the Thunder to a league-best record of 64-18. He shot a career-high of 55.3 percent from the field, becoming the first guard in league history to average at least 30 points per game while shooting at least 55.0 percent. As part of his exceptional 2025-26 campaign, Gilgeous-Alexander set the NBA record for the most consecutive games scoring 20 or more points with 140, breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s mark of 126, which had stood for more than 60 years.

In Lexington for the 2017-18 season, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 14.4 points and 5.1 assists. He was named the MVP of the Southeastern Conference Tournament, helping the Wildcats to the title with a win over Tennessee in the championship game. That year, Gilgeous-Alexander was an All-SEC Second Team selection and an All-SEC Freshman Team honoree.

For Philadelphia 76ers’ guard Tyrese Maxey, this marks his first ever nod to an All-NBA team and comes on the heels of a season in which he averaged career highs in points per game (28.3), assists per game (6.6), rebounds per game (4.1), steals per game (1.9) and blocks per game (0.8). Maxey was fifth in the league in both scoring and steals, while also ranking 15th in assists per game. He was named a starter for the NBA All-Star game for the first time.

Maxey was the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft after earning second-team All-SEC and SEC Freshman Team honors for the Wildcats. He averaged 14.0 points per game and played a team-high 34.5 minutes per game. Maxey scored in double figures in 22 games and hit the game-winning shot in his collegiate debut to help the Wildcats defeat No. 1 Michigan State in the season opener.

Joining Maxey as a first-time All-NBA selection is Murray. The Denver Nuggets guard had a career year, setting career highs with 25.4 points per game, 7.1 assists per game and 4.4 rebounds per game. In his ninth NBA season, Murray also shot career-best marks from both the field (48.3%) and 3-point range (43.5%). He earned his first NBA All-Star bid as the Nuggets finished the regular season with a record of 54-28, third in the western conference.

While playing for the Wildcats during the 2016 season, Murray had a sensational freshman campaign which saw him average 20.0 points per game, the most by a UK freshman all-time. He was named an All-American and was tabbed to the All-SEC First Team. Murray’s 113 made 3-pointers stands as the second most in a single season by a Wildcat all-time.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s basketball program landed two representatives on the 2025-26 NBA All-Defensive teams as both Cason Wallace and Bam Adebayo were recognized in an announcement from the league on Friday night. In addition, Adebayo was also named Social Justice Champion.

Both Adebayo and Wallace were tabbed second-team selections, honoring the pair’s outstanding defensive efforts this season. The selection marks the first time Wallace hauled in all-defense laurels, while Adebayo collects his sixth such recognition, the most ever by a Kentucky men’s basketball product.

For Adebayo, the 2025-26 season is his sixth on an NBA All-Defensive Team. He now passes Anthony Davis for the most NBA All-Defensive Team selections by a Kentucky player all-time.

The Miami Heat center averaged 1.2 steals and 0.7 blocks per game along with 8.0 defensive rebounds. It marked just the second season in Adebayo’s nine-year NBA career in which he averaged at least 8.0 defensive rebounds per contest.

Adebayo also was awarded the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Trophy, given annually to the NBA Social Justice Champion. The award honors a player for their efforts to promote social justice and for advancing Abdul-Jabbar’s life mission to engage, empower and drive equality for communities that have been historically disadvantaged and under-resourced. For his efforts, $100K will be donated to the Bam, Books, and Brotherhood Foundation. Adebayo is the second Kentucky men’s basketball alumni to be named NBA Social Justice Champion, joining Karl-Anthony Towns, who was bestowed the honor in 2024.

In one season with the Wildcats, Adebayo was the only player to start all 38 games for a 2016-17 squad that won the SEC Tournament and advanced to the Elite Eight. He was an All-SEC Second Team and All-SEC Freshman Team honoree. Adebayo averaged 13.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game before being selected 14th overall by the Heat in 2017.

Wallace led the NBA in total steals during the regular season with 150, an average of 1.9 thefts per game. The Oklahoma City Thunder guard, now in his third season in the NBA, helped his team to a league-best record of 64-18 and was a key piece on the defensive end for a group which allowed just 107.9 points per game, the fewest in the western conference. A native of Dallas, Wallace was an NBA All-Rookie Team selection back in 2023-24 and won an NBA title with the Thunder last season.

Wallace was an All-SEC Freshman Team selection while at Kentucky in 2022-23, averaging 11.7 points, 4.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals while starting 32 games. He was named the SEC Freshman of the Week three times throughout the duration of the season and tied the program’s single-game steals record with his eight swipes against Michigan State.

Kentucky’s NBA players have racked up numerous honors over the years and have won at least one major award every year since 2021. A complete list of Wildcats awards in the NBA:

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis program inked Avery Pope as an addition this offseason, head coach Shelley Jaudon announced Friday. She will join the team for the 2026-27 season.

“We are very excited for Avery to join our Kentucky women’s tennis family,” said Jaudon. “Avery has a unique story in pausing her athletic career to go serve others overseas. The maturity, selflessness and drive it took from her to live that experience is going to help Avery have an immediate impact on our program. We can’t wait to get started working with her!”

Avery Pope
Senior | Provo, Utah | BYU

Avery Pope joins the team for her fourth year of eligibility, spending her first three collegiate years at BYU. The last season she played was 2023-24, before taking some time off to go on a mission to El Salvador.

In the 2023-24 season, Avery Pope went 6-10 in singles play and 9-4 in doubles play.

Prior to BYU, she was a three-time Utah Team State Champion (2018, 2019, 2020), ranked as the No. 3 player in Utah, and No. 10 in the Mountain Region.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 21, 2026) — The University of Kentucky is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to “strategically elevate and modernize the role of athletics” as the Chief Executive Officer of Champions Blue, LLC and Athletics Director.

The two titles are intentional components of a job description unveiled today as UK President Eli Capilouto begins discussions with potential candidates over the next few weeks. The full job description can be read here: go.uky.edu/AthleticsLeadership.

“College athletics is always changing, but that change now is occurring more rapidly and with greater financial impacts than ever before,” Capilouto said. “The leadership role must change and adapt as well. Putting the success of our students first remains a priority. Winning championships remains critically important — but, so too, is the financial and commercial acumen to generate more revenue, manage expenses more tightly and align even more with our institutional mission to advance the state.”

Over the last several weeks, following Mitch Barnhart’s announcement that he would step down as Athletics Director on June 30, Capilouto has interviewed more than 80 people about college athletics and this crucial leadership role. Those interviewed included coaches and senior staff at UK as well as donors, supporters and leaders in the business of sports across the country.

Capilouto said UK’s next leader has big shoes to fill in replacing Barnhart. At the same time, the ability to adapt in what continues to be an era of rapid and dramatic changes is increasingly important. The two titles — CEO of Champions Blue and Athletics Director — reflect the evolution in the leadership role. Capilouto said chief attributes in the next leader will include:

A commitment to student success, integrity, compliance and the pursuit of championships
Financial and commercial acumen to administer larger budgets, generate more revenue and manage expenses
A capacity to analyze costs and consequences of alternative revenue strategies
Demonstrated skills in leading the development of a successful approach to athlete compensation, revenue sharing and NIL opportunities, working closely with the institution’s multi-media rights partner, JMI Sports.
An ability to effectively communicate in a complex media environment as well as with other critical constituencies, such as donors, fans, the UK Board of Trustees and Champions Blue Board of Governors.
A willingness to work collaboratively with a team of leaders, utilizing shared services across the UK enterprise to achieve unit and strategic goals
Champions Blue LLC was formed last year as a first-of-its-kind new business model to help manage the change occurring in athletics and ensure continued championship-level and financial success.

The seven-member Champions Blue Board of Governors — UK leaders and subject matter experts in sports outside the university — provides strategic guidance and counsel as UK Athletics must consider how to generate more revenue in an era where players can be compensated and expenses continue to increase for scholarships and other costs.

The CEO and Athletics Director will report directly to the UK President and work closely with other units — such as Student Success, Information and Technology Services, Marketing and Strategic Communication and Philanthropy — to achieve unit and institutional goals.

Capilouto said he is looking toward both sitting college Athletics Directors and people with varied backgrounds in pro sports and business as potential next leaders. Capilouto’s goal remains to name someone for the new leadership position by June 30.

“UK Athletics has long played a critical role in defining for so many people what the University of Kentucky is for the Commonwealth of Kentucky,” Capilouto said. “For that to be true long into the future, we must have a leader who can cast a vision and also execute on it — a vision for how we continue to win championships, develop and educate young people and also successfully run what is increasingly a significant business. That leader is out there, ready to join one of the nation’s premier athletics programs and universities. We are excited about the prospect of the right leader, at a point of inflection and change, joining an institution with undeniable momentum in meeting our mission of advancing this state in all that we do.”

The post University of Kentucky Announces Plan for New Athletics Director first appeared on Nation of Blue.
