Releasing an EP is Like Winning in Online Bingo

One of the things I’ve wanted to do for the longest time – aside from my desire to play online bingo (sign up now) – release a record. It’s any musician’s biggest dream, and you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn’t even think that it would be neat to release something containing their own compositions. Releasing one and having people actually like it is like winning in bingo.

Anyway, I’ve put that dream on the back burner because, well, I didn’t think I was talented enough to write a good song, let alone a few songs that will fill up an entire EP or LP. Also, work. And age. I can really name a lot of reasons why I wasn’t able to record stuff with all my other bands, but nothing beats stopping making excuses and just heading off to the studio to put your songs on tape.

(Well, technically, we didn’t really record on tape, because it’s 2012, and who the hell records on tape these days? Oh, yeah. Foo Fighters. That doesn’t make it any different – we still recorded digitally. Yes, I know the idiom doesn’t make sense, but- oh, you get what I mean. Shut up.)(...)

RomCom EP Coming Soon!

So, uh, is this thing on? Is anyone still here?

Hi everyone. Or whoever’s left of my blog readers. As you know, I usually have a nice introspective (HAH) post that I make every birthday, but at this point I really can’t get myself to write anything. You know I’ve struggled with this stupid writer’s block for years and it’s rather clear that my writing has taken a downward spiral in quality (QUALITY? WHAT QUALITY?).

Anyway, I know I’ve been talking about my new band, RomCom, a lot. Mainly because it’s my band and I think we’re doing a pretty good job. We’ve recently finished recording our EP, which we’ll release digitally soon. Not bad for a band that started last January, I say. I’m learning a lot from this band too. No, you won’t find me taking up beginner trumpet anytime soon (although that’s a sweet-looking trumpet, don’t you think?) but I’m planning on taking up and studying more instruments soon.

Anyway, here’s a small preview of the EP. Here’s one of the first completed songs off it, called “I Don’t Want To.” Give it a listen and tell me what you think!

Happy Valentine’s Day, RomCom

Hello everyone! I am taking a break from not posting updates on this blog to greet you all a Happy Valentine’s Day. Don’t ask me how mine went – it’s pretty much uneventful and all. I know I was all about finding love and shawarma this 2012. But I guess that’s kind of asking too much. It’s easier to play bingo online for cash and win. Oh well, that’s Valentine’s 2012 for you. Tell me if you’ve hit bingo with your love lives this year, alright? Maybe a couple of my readers are living in a romantic comedy already. I dunno.

Speaking of romantic comedies, I’m posting here because I want you all to listen to and appreciate my new band, RomCom (see what I did there?) I have no idea why we’re called that (ask Tin), but our mission is to make music that makes you feel like you’re in a John Lloyd Cruz movie. And this new band here is made up of internet people whom I’ve known for some time now – Tin, Larry, Marco, and Mon. And for a change, I’m playing for a band that does bubblegum pop. I know, I know. I just want to play something different, screw you, don’t judge me.(...)

And I’m pretty surprised at how quick this year went, plus the fact that it’s almost Christmas and I haven’t made a single holiday-related post on my blog is nothing short of shameful. So I’m going to take the easy way out and write a Christmas wishlist post, because I have absolutely no idea what to talk about.

Samurai Umbrella

I like my umbrellas small and portable, but goddammit, Samurai Umbrellas look awesome. Also, I’ve grown too fat and my small girly umbrellas just can’t cut it anymore – any rain stronger than a drizzle and I arrive at the office soaked. So yeah, I want me a Samurai Umbrella.(...)

BGRF 3 is Tonight!

iOS Games I’m Playing Right Now

You know, I haven’t been updating this blog for a while now. Why do you keep on coming back? It’s not like I’m regaling you with stories of how stupid my life is recently. Do you see me whining here about the assholes I ride with on the MRT? No. And it’s not like I don’t have shit to tell you, my life’s been fucking eventful and all as of late. But this is not what I want to talk about, internet. Let us sit down, while I hold your hand, look deep into your eyes, and wait for you to be genuinely interested in what I have to say.

You see, I seriously want to talk about my favorite iOS games for this month. It’s very important that I have to talk to you about these apps that I love using right now. You know where my weekends go.

The Dark Meadow

I like this game, but it feels like a watered-down Infinity Blade, at least in gameplay. And since Infinity Blade is one of my ultimate all-time favorite iOS games, this shouldn’t bode well for Dark Meadow, right? What this game doesn’t have in gameplay, it makes up for it in storytelling. Dark, creepy, if not a bit repetitive, Dark Meadow is survival horror for iOS done right. I played this game the first time on the day before Halloween, and I swear, I was getting creeped the fuck out. I spit at you, you stupid Silent Hill iOS game, this is how you do it.(...)

Doctor Who: The Wedding of River Song [Review]

After an awesome season, the mystery of the Doctor’s death in Lake Silencio, Utah has been finally solved. And boy, it was a ride. We’ve all followed this story with much gusto, and now we’ve come to the end, I find how the Doctor managed to escape his demise a bit… underwhelming.

I actually found the use of the [SPOILER] Tessalecta as a way for the Doctor to escape death brilliant, and the use of the Ganger for the entire season as a red herring was a great misdirect. Too bad the reveal and the whole pacing of the episode was off. It didn’t have the huge emotional impact of the last season’s finale, and that part disappointed me big time.

It’s not so bad though. The Silence, after the events of The Day of the Moon, were once again a credible threat not just for our favorite TARDIS crew but also for humanity as a whole. Moffat once again crammed all his signature crazy ideas in the script, and every single one of them worked.
