Jesse Boykins III Live in LA - Saturday Feb 9, 2013

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 06 Feb 2013 18:08:00 +0000

I am back at it again. Grammy weekend is upon us in LA so it's time to do a big show! In years past I have put together a big lineup of artists but this year I decided to scale back at least a little bit. Instead I am hosting an intimate show for Jesse Boykins III. He probably had the biggest show I was involved with in 2012 so bringing him back was a no-brainer. If you like sexy, soulful vibes with plenty of style then Jesse is your man.

Solo Nude by Ed Freeman

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 16 Jan 2013 19:57:00 +0000

Ed Freeman is probably my favorite photographer to shoot with. We had a duo shoot scheduled this past weekend but with the flu going around the other model had to cancel. Rather than waste the time we did a quick shoot of just me in his gallery. Ed is going to manipulate this image in some crazy way but he sent me the raw shot of just me, my hair and my booty against a white wall. Looking forward to seeing the final image but in the meantime I love this image!

Strictly Social presents Melo-X - Saturday Jan 19, 2012

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 16 Jan 2013 19:34:00 +0000

I am back at it with another edition of Strictly Social. Now in its 5th year my ongoing collaboration with DJ Destroyer is my true stamp on the Los Angeles scene. I have been able to book a cross section of progressive artists who truly represent the Nu-Soul vibe. While I am no longer doing these shows on a monthly basis I am more interested in doing these shows when I have access to an artist who fits the vibe of what I am trying to create.

On Saturday January 19, 2012 I am proud to present Brooklyn's Melo-X. This producer, rapper, and remixer became known for remixing Maxwell's most recent album but he has put his touch on awesome remixes of Rihanna, Lana Del Rey and Quadron. Truly next level sexy beat shit!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 24 Oct 2012 02:32:00 +0000

I was a featured extra in a promo/video for a Nickelodeon boy band called Big Time Rush a while back. I played the engineer in the studio as the band is recording the song. It was a pretty fun day I must say. I finally found the clip and yes I am in it! It came out pretty cool and I definitely look like I belong in a studio setting. Check it out.

My Interview with Flying Lotus

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 02 Oct 2012 20:07:00 +0000

I was lucky enough to do an in-person interview with Flying Lotus about a month ago. He was gearing up for the release of his new album (which comes out today) and I have been wanting to get him up on Nu-Soul for a while. I am really proud of this piece. I think I found out some things about Flying Lotus beyond just his music and it was a great, laid back experience for both of us.

5 Years Of Strictly Social - Thursday August 23, 2012

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 15 Aug 2012 18:21:00 +0000

No matter how you look at it 5 years of doing anything is a pretty solid achievement. On August 23, 2012 I will be celebrating the 5th Anniversary of Strictly Social, the event that I began in August of 2007 with DJ Destroyer and Lucy Beer. While Lucy is no longer on board, Destroyer and I kept things going and produced a night that was unique in Los Angeles. The concept has always been to present soul music with an edge in a very contemporary and party driven way. As the main event showcase for my website Nu-Soul, Strictly Social became the place where I could book the artists that I thought were amazing. Surprisingly enough there were lots of people in LA who thought these artists were amazing as well.

Over the years I have hosted some truly outstanding performers both local and international, all the while helping to foster a community of artists in LA. Strictly Social has become more than I have ever imagined over the years. We have taken the show on the road to New York, San Francisco and San Diego, released several mixtapes and been the first to take a chance on some unknown artists. I have worked with such amazing people as N'Dea Daavenport, Sy Smith, Mark de Clive-Lowe and Lisa Shaw to name a small few.

For our 5th Anniversary we are taking things up a notch and moving to a new venue. The Echo in Echo park is going to be our new home and its a step up for sure. This well loved venue holds 350 people often has a show every day of the week. They have the knowledge, staff, and marketing to help take Strictly Social to the next level.

I am so excited to continue the journey of Strictly Social and I am committed to bringing the best lineups that I possibly can. I have always tried to find a balance between biggers names, buzzy new acts, and underground innovators over the years and I will continue to do so!

Please check out Strictly Social at http://facebook.com/lastrictlysocial or http://twitter.com/StrictSocialLA

2 Birthday Parties for Me!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 23 Apr 2012 16:09:00 +0000

Another year another birthday! My birthday is on Thursday April 26 and in my normal eclectic fashion I decided to do 2 parties this year. The reason for this is mainly my very eclectic taste in music as well as the fact that I have friends from a variety of scenes and communities. And also I just happened to have 2 events scheduled at the time of my birthday so it makes sense.

PARTY #1

The first party is Broke As F**k, my all breakbeat ans bass party that I throw with Eva. I tried to keep it eclectic this year with Doc Nasty from Florida as the headliner so that true Florida BASS sound that I love so much will be represented. As a special guest I brought on Joe Kay, who has been shaking up my world as of late with his Soulection record label and radio show. This is is all FREE! Plus since it's on Wednesday night it actually turns to my birthday at midnight which will be fun.

PARTY #2

My second party is the next night with the one year anniversary of Nappy Thursday. This is for the soul music crowd and as a special treat I will also be celebrating the birthdays of 2 of the performers, Jimetta Rose and Rashondra Angelle. It's only $5 all night.

Check out the flyers for all the info!
