Bijvoorbeeld omdat Google zich nu ook op het terrein van concept-video’s begeeft, waar bijv. Nokia en Microsoft al jaren hun toekomstideeen mee visualiseren.

Zo heeft TechCrunch enige reserve en een tip voor Apple en Facebook om samen te werken aan een concurrent:

“There’s a dozen ways the product could flop, most obviously if the glasses are awkward and unstylish, but also if they’re too heavy, expensive, fragile, or the world is just not quite ready. Let’s forget those for a second. Say Google figures it out and the retail version of Project Glass (which may end up being called Google Eye) becomes wildly popular. How will this disrupt Apple and Facebook, and what should they do to defend themselves?”

Technisch (nog lang) niet mogelijk
Daarnaast is -tot mijn verrassing- Wired Magazine erg skeptisch, als het gaat om a) living up expectations, b) de huidige stand van dergelijke technologie, maar vnl. ook c) een hele praktische issue:

“In other words, a display bearing overlaid graphics that performs well indoors would be washed out when the user encounters the brightness of the outside world. Because of such huge differences in ambient lighting, MacIntyre says creating a display that can handle multiple environments will be difficult. “You wouldn’t be able to accomplish it by just changing the brightness,” he says.”

En nu ik toch bezig was/ben, heb ik er ook een artikel van de New York Times bij gehaald. Zij vermelden dat de Googlers het volgende met de mock-up video willen bereiken:

Technologie om mensen te bevrijden van technologie
En als het al een status-symbool wordt, en uiteindelijk gemeengoed wordt in ons straatbeeld, dan vind ik de twee-na-laatste alinea uit het NYT-artikel het meest interessant voor een discussie. De reporter schrijft:

“People I have spoken with who have have seen Project Glass said there is a misconception that the glasses will interfere with people’s daily life too much, constantly streaming information to them and distracting from the real world. But these people said the glasses actually free people up from technology.”

En dat laatste, dat zullen we nog weleens zien (no pun intended!)…

It’s easy to get caught up with the horse races of Facebook versus Google or Microsoft versus Apple or record labels versus the Internet. But in nearly 30 years of covering technology I find that the major conflicts are those of philosophy, politics and power.

But in nearly 30 years of covering technology I find that the major conflicts are those of philosophy, politics and power. You could almost view the past few decades as a spectacular cycle of fantasy novels with the Hacker Spirit as the protagonist and amazing supporting characters including Steve Jobs, Richard Stallman, Bill Gates, Larry Page, Stephen Wolfram, Whitfield Diffie, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg (all of whom I’ve spent considerable time interviewing.) And as our lives are more intertwined with the giant digital shift, these conflicts are ever more vital. Here’s an attempt to deconstruct a revolution–and point to what’s ahead.

      So you can;t tell GTA in this fashion. You;re not an antihero, not a good guy, you are rewarded for being a bad person. No version of that will ever make into a movie , thats stays true of what that brand is..!

Mijn browserhistorie geeft aan dat ik wat muziek- en filmlijstjes van het jaar heb gecheckt. In mijn hoofd probeer ik te inventariseren welke boeken ik eigenlijk nog wil lezen, en in mijn ooghoek zie ik een stapel met kranten en artikelen die ik ook nog door wil spitten.

    2012 – wat wel, wat niet?
    En dan hoor je ook nog nieuwe plannen te hebben voor 2012! Dan maar eens bedenken wat ik NIET wil….
    Heb ik dan geen spannende plannen die kunnen mislopen, of belangrijke zaken te verliezen? Natuurlijk wel, maar die heeft iedereen. Succes in de liefde, sport, werk en een goeie vrijetijdsbesteding, daar is niemand zomaar tegen.

    Misschien slaat dat NIET willen wel nergens op. Is het niet gewoon veel makkelijker om te bedenken wat je WEL wil…?! Bijvoorbeeld vorig jaar voorspelde ik hier dat James Blake in 2011 groot zou gaan worden. Da’s wel een waarheid geworden lijkt me. Wie de muzikale ontdekking van 2012 wordt, durf ik niet met zo’n zekerheid te zeggen. Lianne la Havas misschien? En voor 2011 was mijn voornemen om eens muzikaal op te treden voor publiek. Het werd een duo-dj-set voor een select publiek, waar ik niet van durf te beweren dat het een succes is geworden. Dit jaar? Nog maar eens proberen.

    Wat ik niet wil: voorspellen wat er in 2012 allemaal gaat gebeuren. Ieder jaar vraag ik me aan het begin ervan af, wat er zal gebeuren de komende 12 maanden; wat gaat het nieuwsjaaroverzicht gaat halen. En wat haalt mijn persoonlijke overzicht? 2011 was voornamelijk een erg goed jaar. Benieuwd of 2012 dat kan toppen…

    Doorbouwen
    Dit jaar als voornemen om verder uit te bouwen wat ik eerder begonnen ben: op m’n werk een aantal projecten (specialisatie UXD, onderwijskunde, samenwerkingen met journalisten) en met de Cine*baars naast de filmavonden ook de radio-afleveringen uitbouwen en dan hier, op dit blog echt eens werken aan het van de grond krijgen van een waar Nederlands Audio Platform.

    I’ll keep you posted.

    En ondertussen blijf ik een groot vertrouwen hebben in 2012, voor datgene wat de muzikale vernieuwers van Viral Radio ons brengen:

    En nu is het dan zover: samen met Marius de architect (eigenlijk bouwconcept-ontwikkelaar), Mathieu de schoenenman en ik, hebben we een eerste Soundcloud-aflevering gefabriceerd voor ons eigen radio-programma-idee: Radio Cine*baars – de soundtrack van je buurt. Hier vast een korte proeve:

    De Cine*baars
    Sinds een aantal jaar organiseer ik met bovenstaande heren en 2 dames, een maandelijkse, gratis filmavond in Meneer de Wit. Afgelopen september hosten we zelfs een Cafe-avond met eten, drinken, dansen, dj’s en korte films. Dat werd een groter succes dan verwacht. Alles onder de titel “Cine*baars”.

    Een experiment
    En die Cine*baars wordt zo langzaamaan een begrip in de buurt, en succes smaakt bij ons toch -oh cliche- naar meer. We willen wat nieuwe dingen uitproberen. Met een beetje hulp van de bewonersinitiatieven–ondersteuning organiseren we de films – onze core, zeg maar. Maar voor extra dingen trekken we zelf tijd en materieel uit. Om vervolgens gewapend met veel enthousiasme, pen, papier en gekke invalshoeken, projecten te bedenken. We hebben een platform, we hebben publiek; wat kun je daarmee…?

    Jahaa: Radio!
    In 2 avonden bedachten we dat er een radio-uitzending, met filmmuziek, moest komen. In 2 andere avonden zetten we de boel op, en de 5e avond hadden we onze opnames binnen. Een middagje editten, et voila: Radio Cine*baars – aflevering 1 @ Cafe Cook.

    Ons format: hyperlokale herkenning
    Iedere aflevering van Radio Cine*baars wijden we aan de film die we bij de aankomende Cine*baars gaan vertonen. Welke film het wordt, dat vertellen we (nog) niet, maar dat hoor je WEL, als je goed oplet. We nemen op, op locatie in De Baarsjes, interviewen altijd de eigenaar van de plek waar te gast zijn, en we vragen mensen om de scene te beschrijven die hoort bij de soundtrack van de film… (of ze de film nou gezien hebben of niet!). Daarnaast kiezen we 2 thema’s/onderwerpen uit de film, die we vrij ombuigen naar vragen die we kunnen stellen aan de aanwezigen op locatie. Bij aflevering 1: quizzes en dubbellevens.

    Op deze manier bieden we luisteraars de mogelijkheid tot herkenning: de locaties in je eigen buurt, je buren, of de film. Misschien herken je de muziek al. Allemaal goed. Je komt vast in de stemming voor de aankomende filmavond. Daar gaat het om. Op welke manier dan ook. Hyperlocal dus!

    Broadcast-help
    In de voorbereiding en aanloop naar de (voor ons) spannende opname-avond, WhatsApp’ten we weer veel binnen het team, maar onderzochten we ook meerdere live-broadcast-omgevingen en testen het een en ander. Zo probeerden we de live-streams uit via Facebook-video-chat, Skype, Google+ Hangouts, Ustream.tv en kregen we van de aardige tech-mensen van Red Light Radio wat streamsoftware-tips. En die laatste tip hadden we nooit kunnen krijgen zonder de hulp van de schier onmetelijke ‘reach’ van @frankmeeuwsen. Uiteindelijk kozen we in dit stadium voor ‘live-opgenomen’, en ‘zenden we uit’ via Soundcloud.com/radiocinebaars. En daarnaast een Spotify-playlistje, voor de hele soundtrack.

    Natuurlijk konden we niet alles alleen, en hebben meerdere mensen zinnige bijdragen geleverd aan ons avontuur:
    Thijmen Hoebink maakte onze jingle. Adeline van Lier checkte ons draaiboek, en Tjitske Mussche gaf redactionele tips.

    Balen x 100
    Dan zou je denken dat je de boel wel voor elkaar hebt. En alhoewel we een aantal testjes op locatie uitvoerden met microfoon en opname-software (Audacity, Soundcloud-app zelf, voice-recorder, dictaphone en richtmicrofoon), zijn de uiteindelijke opnames via de MacBookPro+Audacity+built-in-Mic-combi zeer.. ahem… sub-optimaal. Lang verhaal kort: geluidskwaliteit van de interviews is ruk. En dus zijn we op zoek naar een goede microfoon. Help jij ons?

    En straks aflevering 2…?
    En waar zullen we aflevering 2 eigenlijk opnemen? Doe maar een suggestie. Hopelijk zien we je woensdag 7 december, bij de aankomende Cine*baars. Meld je even aan op cinebaars.nl
